#[burning icy glare] mae okane
Note
The gym teacher and lights we knew about, but student council re-elections? And weird transfer students? That's new.
"Yepyep! Ooh, it's so dramatic! Will Okane be able to hold onto her position? And does anyone even know who the current President and Vice President are? Oho, but the REAL interesting one is the transfer students..." She pulls out a list of students that she got from... somewhere, flipping through it until she gets to the two pages she wants, hitting the page with her finger lightly. "Eiengekku Kayaku and Jusagi Reanoi, classes 2-D and 3-D respectively. Two students who showed up out of nowhere, and have seemingly been keeping entirely to themselves. Are they just shy? Or are they hiding some sort of secret? I for one would like to know! And I'm sure our loyal readers would love to as well!"

Eijiro had been "staring" at Mae for the past couple of weeks, but not really doing anything about it. He was doing it again. [poorly-drawn-akira]
Mae had noticed his 'staring' the past few times, but hadn't really felt inclined to do anything about it.
...Until today, apparently.
"Otoishi, do you need something or should I just leave you to... Whatever it is you're doing."

A few days had passed, and things were finally getting to be normal again for Mae. She was finally back at school, sha had clean clothes on, and she had been able to take a shower...
Well, bot EVERYTHING was normal, she thought as she waved by to her sister, the two heading to their own classes. She ran her fingers through her hair, which was now completely clean of black dye, and smiled.
...Things were better though. Probably.
"Oh, you're back. Nice hair." Mae turned around,.and found herself facing...
Oh shoot what was her name? She knew that she was the student council secretary, and they had the same homeroom, but shit, uh...
Fuck it she just wouldn't address it.
"Yes, I am, and thanks.
...I'm assuming I'm behind on treasurer work?"
Aisho shook her head. "No, I covered for you. Still, I'm impressed you're already back to school. I would have thought you would need more time off to process things, especially since...
Well, you know."
Mae waved her hand dismissively. "No, no I'm fine. The guy's gone anyways, so it's not like I'll ever see him again.
... Speaking of which, I guess we're out of a homeroom teacher now, huh."
"Actually, they hired someone yesterday. So she'll be starting this morning."
"...So your telling me. That there was just a science teacher looking for a job in this town exactly when we needed a new one."
Aisho nodded, giggling a little bit. "Yeah, and she also specializes in chemistry. What are the odds?"
Mae couldn't help but crack a grin. "What the fuck is wrong with this town?"
"Good question." She smiled. "It's nice to see you in a good mood, though.
...Ah, we're going to be late at this rate."
"Oh, you're right. Well," She began walking and motioned for Aisho to follow. "Let's get a move on then."
The two chatted a bit more as they walked to class; Aisho was admittedly more than a bit confused by Mae's more social behavior. She was usually so cold and formal...
But, this was nicer.
As the two settled in, the room was filled with hushed murmers. Who was the new teacher? Had Satsujin-Sensin really been responsible for the disappearances? Had no one actually noticed that his last name was murder?
The room went silent as the door opened, and a unfamiliar figure walked in. Their plum hair curled around their face, and their outfit was... Interesting, to say the least.
The woman placed a pile of notebooks and folders as well as a cup of coffee onto the teachers desk, before writing her name on the board ('Professor' Natsumi Su-Jin? What happened to using Sensei?) and turning to the class, eyes obscured by swirly glasses of all things.
Mae's face scrunched up. What the hell kind of weirdo...
"Good morning, class." She began, pacing a bit as she spoke. "I am avare that your previous teacher vas... Fired under less zhan flattering circumstances. As such, a new hire vas deemed to be necessary, and zhat," She pushed her glasses up on her face. "Vould be me.
I look forvard to vorking vith you zhis year. Let us hope zhat zhere are no more issues, yes?"
Tumblr media
Mae was floored. Literally where did the school get these people.
A few rows back however, Chikaru stood up, one hand slamming on the desk as their other one shot up.
"Su-jin-Sensei..."
Almost everyone in the class turned to look, the intensity in their voice kind of frightening.
They looked up, their eyes sparkling. "Where did you get that tie? It's so cool, I HAVE to know!"
The room went silent. Really. Really?
Mae sighed. Well, weirdos would get along, she supposed.
Still... Was there no such thing as a normal science teacher?
...Atleast this one wasn't a serial killer. She hoped.

Mae once again was laying on the floor, sleep continuing to elude her. It had been... Quite a few days since she and Laurence had put their plan into motion. And goddammit was she hungry...
...What if this didn't even work? Gah, no, stay positive, but... It very well couldn't. This was all hinging on one observation she made after all, so...
...No. No, she had to have faith in herself on this. And hey, if she was wrong about this, then at least she was right about one thing. Haha.
She let out a sigh, bringing her hand up to her face and glaring at it. She had just checked not all that long ago, and there had still been nothing, but maybe now...
...Hm. Hm? Oh that.... It felt a bit toasty. And now it felt chilly. Oh my god. Oh my god!
Mae sat up, grinning like a madwoman. It had worked! It had actually worked! She had been right! Yes!
Alright, wait, no point in celebrating yet. Sadly, that was the easy part. But, it was progress, and that's what counted.
She laid back down on the floor, a proud grin still plastered on her face. For now, best to try and get some rest.
She would need all the energy she could muster for what was to come.

important (but long) plot beneath cut
A few days had passed, and nothing had changed about the situation that Mae and Laurence found themselves in. Same dingy basement, same low morale from Mae, same dying for 2 seconds…
This was REALLY getting old.
“…Hey, ya wanna play somethin’?” Laurence asked, pulling out a casino-grade deck of playing cards from his pocket.
Mae gave him a look, before blinking slowly a few times. “So you’re telling me. That you brought a deck of cards with you. But not your phone.”
“Yeah, ‘fcourse,” He replied, now expertly shuffling the deck. “I never leave home without ‘em.”
“…Do I dare ask why.”
“…’Cause I gotta practice my poker game.”
Mae could have ignored this, this no where near the most questionable thing that Laurence had said in their short time together, but she was bored, and tired, and didn’t care anymore, so might as well humor the guy. “And why exactly is that.”
“Well, y’see…” He rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. “My Ma’s real good at those type’sa games. Like, REAL good. Like she hasn’t lost in over 40 years good. So, y’know,” He went back to shuffling, a determined smile on his face. “I wanna beat her one day, kinda show her that I can be just as cool as she is, y’know?”
Mae was quiet for a moment before finally responding. “…Yeah, I get that.” She skootched herself over to be sitting across from the boy, before crossing her arms. “Well, what are you waiting for? Deal me in.”
Laurence looked at her, genuine surprise on his face, but it quickly turned into his signature sharp-toothed grin. “Yes ma’am!”
For a while, they simply played in relative silence. It was pretty one sided, with Laurence being pretty much the only one on the board win-wise, but Mae didn’t mind. Her thoughts were elsewhere right now anyways.”
"So, I’ve been meanin’ to ask… Are ya feelin’ alright? Like, besides the whole… Y’know.”
“Uh, yeah, I guess, why?”
Laurence looked puzzled, his gaze seemingly fixated on the top of Mae’s head. “…Are ya sure? Cause, uh, your hair’s kinda… Turning white?”
Mae blinked a few times. Oh. “Oh, no that’s… I’m not…
…My hair isn’t naturally black, I uh. I dye it. So that’s why.” Her words were flat and stunted, and she stared directly at the ground as she spoke them. Gah, she was hoping that no one would ever find out about that… It was embarrassing. Embarrassing that she had to completely change a part of herself to even feel comfortable looking in a mirror.
Laurence however seemed to pick up on none of this. “Wait, really? You dye all of it, like your eyebrows too and stuff?”
Mae looked a little well… confused to say the least. “Um… Yes? That’s why my eyebrows are also black??”
“Oh sick, me too!” He pointed at his own blue hair, eyebrows, and beard before pointing to his shaved sideburns. “See, this is my actual hair color, but… Heh, it’s kinda dumb, but I like to dye it the same color as my Ma’s. Plus, it looks cool!” He grinned again.
“…You really like your mom, huh?”
“Well, yeah, I mean… She’s always been there for me, y’know? Always supports me, but still can knock me down a peg when I need it most…” He looked down, guilt on his face. “…I feel bad about lying to her about where I was going the day I came here, though. Like real bad. She’s probably real worried…” He sighed
Mae looked down as well. “I could imagine that my dad is as well. And big brother Kaitso, and...” She trailed off. And who, Mae, hm?
…She couldn’t even bring herself to say her sister’s name. A knot formed in her stomach. Was it hatred? Guilt? She couldn’t tell.
She wouldn’t be surprised if her sister wasn’t concerned about her right now, though. She could hardly blame her, after she yelled in her face about hating her and all that other junk. If the situation were reversed, then… Well, she would probably herself for the whole thing. But she doubted that Mai would feel that way; After all, she was the strong one, the better of the two. Right?
Laurence was giving her a sorta concerned look at this point, and so she decided to leave that line of thoughts right there. She cleared her throat. “Uh, sorry, got um… Distracted by thoughts. Still, you’re… Lucky to have such a good mom.”
“’S okay, I get it. And yeah, I am. But sometimes, y’know, I worry about her.” He sighed, looking down once more. “We haven’t seen my dad in years, like since I was in preschool, and sometimes… I can tell it gets to her. She always says that there has to be a reason, and that he wouldn’t jut abandon us, but… I dunno. I just have a hard time believing it.”
It was awkwardly silent for what felt like an eternity, before Mae spoke up again. “…I know the feeling. My mom, she… left when I was around that age too. Only my father has never tried ti say that she’s going to come back.
…We all know she isn’t.” An awkward pause. “That’s… why I dye my hair. Not to look prettier, or to boost my self-esteem, but… Because I hate that I look like her. And I can’t help but think that everyone else in my family does too.” She looked away, ashamed. She hated thinking like this, thinking the worst of others, but… She couldn’t help it. She just did. She was just a rotten person, no doubt about it.
“…Well, I dunno if this’ll make ya feel better, but… I know at least that Mai doesn’t hate ya. Last year me and her used to talk a good amount, since we were in the same class, and all I ever heard was how she was proud of ya and kinda looked up to ya with some things. So… Yeah.”
Mae sniffled. “Maybe she didn’t then, but… Now? After I threw everything in her face and then ran away? Surely she does. Surely! And even then she’s… She’s the cool one, and the smart one, the strong one, and I’m sure if she was in this situation she would have found a way out by now, because she’s just better! All I can do well is accounting. Accounting! What use does that have outside of a damn office!? NONE! I’m just… useless. A useless brat with an inflated ego and no self-worth who looks down on everyone else to make herself feel better, when really she’s further beneath them than the ground that they walk on.
That’s how I REALLY feel.” She found herself tearing up at this point, hugging her knees to her chest. She didn’t know how she had ended up spilling this to Laurence of all people, but… Here she was. Her feeling lay bare, and all she could do was accept whatever negative opinion of her that he would now have.
…But no harsh words came. Rather, Laurence skootched over to her side, wrapping an arm around her in an attempt to comfort her.
“…So what if you’re not cool or strong or any of that? You’re you, Mae, and ya have your own talents that make ya shine. Yeah, maybe people don’t like ya, but they can all admit that ya know what you’re doing when it comes to planning and leading others. I don’t get why you’re so hard on yourself, but… Well, try to see your own strengths too, alright?”
Mae didn’t respond, simply burying his face in his chest as she started to sob uncontrollably. This was the first time she had cried since she ran out of that classroom. And cry she did, for everything that was she was feeling.
After a good while, she finally pulled away. Sniffing as she wiped her eyes with the back of her hand. “…Thank you.” She quietly muttered, before closing her eyes taking a deep breath, and hitting her cheeks a few times in an effort to focus. When she reopened her eyes, her expression was serious. Determined. “And you’re right. Now’s not the time for me to be wallowing in self-pity.
…That can come after I get us the HELL out of here.
And also if you tell anyone a goddamn thing I said today then I WILL kill you.” She added, glaring directly at him with such force that, had her stand been working, he would have been either frozen solid or on fire.
Laurence perked up. “Oh, do ya have a plan? And, eheh, don’t worry, I’m not a snitch…” That… Was a terrifying glare. He was starting to see what people meant when they called her an ice queen…
“…I might. It all depends on one thing, though…
We need to figure out why we can’t use out stands.” She placed her hand on her chin and began pacing. “I feel like we, or at the very least I, should have enough to figure out the answer by this point, but…” She almost blurted out ‘Solving mysteries is more of Mai’s thing’ but she stopped herself. Yeah maybe that was true, but general problem solving was something she had to do a whole lot as a member of the student council. She COULD do this.
“He probably just has a stand that can disable stands, yeah?” Laurence asked as he threw his hands behind his head.
“Maybe, but… I feel like if that were the case, then he would have used it either during the confrontation in the stairway, or to kill me at some point. Unless it somehow doesn’t have a manifested form, but somehow I doubt that. And I doubt that it’s the structure itself…”
“Yeah, me too, ‘cause I felt like I could use my stand when I first came in here.” Laurence added.
Mae nodded. “And it’s not this room, because I still couldn’t use it when we were at the stairwell. So what else could it be?”
They both pondered for a bit in silence. Mae finally broke it however, though not with an answer. “Maybe we should… Think more about the person we’re dealing with. Even though I doubt I actually know much about how he truly is, considering that even the NAME I know is fake…”
“Well, he’s pretty damn good at cooking, I can say that.”
Mae froze. “…Laurence. Say that again.”
It was now his turn to give her the confused look. “…He’s good at cooking?”
“That’s it! It has to be!” She hit her fist on her palm. “Laurence!
He’s never tried to starve us to death!”
“Uh… And that matter’s how…?”
“Isn’t it obvious you blockhead? He’s tried almost every other method of killing on me so far. Stabbing, shooting both with a gun AND bow—which really hurt, by the way—dehydration… But NEVER starvation. And I know he specializes in chemistry, so it would technically be in the realm of possibility that he somehow developed a drug that can disable stands…”
Laurence’s eyes lit up as he finally began to catch on. “And during the confrontation in the hall, he got us with needles… Man, I NEVER woulda thought of that! So all we gotta do is not eat anymore, until the stuff wears off, right?”
“On the right track, but not quite.” Mae replied, pacing once again. “If we stop eating, he’ll realize something’s up, and might start administering the drug another way. So instead, one of us will have to eat both meals… That’ll be you, Laurence.”
“Alright, I can do that. And I’m guessing your stand can get us outta here then?”
“Yes, it can,” she said, as she bent down to pick up a playing card from their long-forgotten game. “and this,” she flipped around the card, revealing it to be the ace of spades, before tucking in in her shirt sleeve. “will be the ace up our sleeve, so to speak.”
Their was an awkward silence for a second, before they both burst out laughing.
“Oh my god,” Laurence managed to get out. “that was so bad-“
“Oh, can it blockhead.” Mae responded, still giggling herself.
The two continued to converse for a while after that, solidifying their plans before simply meandering in random conversation. Truthfully, neither of them had ever imagined that they would get on quite this well, but…
With a restored feeling of hope, and a determination to overcome this ordeal, it seemed that the conditions were ripe for what may be the start of a new friendship.

"Oh THAT'S what I forgot! Man, when I left to come find this place, I knew something was missin', and that was it! I forgot my phone!"
Mae blinked once. Then again.
And then she walked over to the wall before slamming her head into it with a resounding thud.

beneath cut bc long :]
but like read it it's very important plot-
Mae lay on the dingy basement floor. She had completely lost track of time by this point (even though it had been less than a week) but really it wasn’t as if it mattered what day it was. She was stuck here, and she… She couldn’t do ANYTHING about it. Like, what was she going to do, use her ACCOUNTING SKILLS to escape a SERIAL KILLER? Yeah, THAT’LL work. She covered her face with one hand, groaning.
Honestly, the only thing worse than this whole situation was the fact that she was ACUTELY AWARE of just how little she could do. Old coping mechanisms of ego inflation be damned, ever since that Umbra girl had done… Whatever it was she had done to her, she had been completely unable to keep the feelings of inferiority at bay anymore.
And it FUCKING SUCKED. It sucked, because it made her realize how much SHE sucked. She was a massive bitch to everyone because she thought it made her seem like she was cool and smart when really she was only getting good grades because she never did anything but schoolwork and studying, she was jealous of her own sister for thing she couldn’t even control, and worst of all, she was too damn insecure about it all to admit it or get help! And where did that stupid fear of doing anything get her? Locked up in a goddamn murder basement!
…Maybe this was divine retribution. Maybe she deserved this. It wasn’t as if many people would miss her anyways, only her family and maybe her few friends. But even then, what if they didn’t actually…
Before she could finish that depressing thought, the door to the basement slammed open, almost as if it had been kicked. Mae was a little startled, but didn’t move or show any sign of it. The jackass could slam the door as hard as he wanted, she still wasn’t going to be afraid of him.
Not anymore, at least.
Dying 23 times does that to a person.
“…Why are you laying on the ground?”
Mae sat up immediately. That… That was not the shit-ass serial killer’s voice oh ok wHAT-
She looked up, and was met by…
“Wh-
A-
Aren’t you that guy who used to wear the school mascot costume???? Why the hell are YOU here!?”
Laurence grinned, rubbing the back of his head. “Yeah, that’s me! Honestly surprised you remembered. But we should probably get out of here while that guy’s not around, yeah?” He replied, easily ignoring what was kind of the more important of the two questions.
But if there was one thing Mae had learned during this whole thing, it was to not question anything. So she decided to leave it there, and focus on just seizing the opportunity she had been given. “Oh he’s not here? That’s what you’re telling me right now? No wait, who cares, just gET ME THE HELL OUT OF HERE-“
With that, the two made their way out of the basement, making their way through the seemingly empty house.
“Gah- OW” Mae’s hand instinctively flew to her eyes as she walked into the regularly lit hallway that lead from the basement to the rest of the house.
“Uh… It’s not that bright, y’know.”
“I WAS STUCK IN A DARK BASEMENT DUMBASS, ANY LIGHT IS BRIGHT TO ME RIGHT NOW.” She snapped. “Ugh, whatever, just… Where’s the exit.”
“It’s a bit of a walk from here. Up the stairs, and then through some more rooms and hallways.”
“Wait, stairs? Was I- Does this-
DOES THIS HOUSE HAVE TWO BASEMENTS???”
Laurence shrugged. “I dunno, seems like it I guess.”
“That’s stupid.” Mae grumbled, before the two started walking again.
It was quiet for all of 1 second before Mae spoke up again. “But no, actually, why are you of all people here? And don’t even say you’re secretly a master detective or some shit, I know you got kicked out for failing your first year like 3 times.”
“Oh, that’s easy,” Laurence replied, throwing his arms behind his head. “I knew who was responsible for the weird stuff that’d been going on with people disappearing, but I didn’t know where they were.
So I accessed a police database without permission and found that guy’s address, and then came here to get you and put this whole thing to rest.”
Mae gave him a look of confusion, exasperation, anger,- Just, EVERYTHING she was feeling right now. “You.
You knew who was doing this.
AND YOU DIDN’T TELL ANYBODY!?”
Laurence looked confused. “I mean, yeah, why would I? I had the whole situation under control, y’know?”
Mae had stopped at this point, and she grabbed the front of Laurence’s jacket stopping him as well before yanking him down to her eye level. “DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TIMES I’VE DIED!?!?”
“Yeah, and I made sure to revive you after every one! See, all under control!” He looked proud of himself, but Mae was now only EVEN MORE CONFUSED.
“WHAT.
WHAT-“
He could just do that, huh? Just BRING PEOPLE BACK FROM THE DEAD? And all she could do was change the temperature of things? Hell, she couldn’t even do that right now! Stands are fucking bullshit.
“Ah but anyways,” Laurence continued, standing back up since she had released his jacket while pondering how fucking stupid this all was “we should probably get moving. We’re almost to the stairs anyways, yeah?”
“Y-yeah, sure, ok…”
Once again things were quiet as the two made their way to and arrived at the staircase. Mae was simply still trying to process all of this. It felt like she was missing just… SO much context. So much! But really, she didn’t care right now. She was going to leave, and go home, and it would be great. So just…
Wait. Was… Was someone coming down the…
“Alright, ladies first, heh!” Laurence said jokingly, gesturing to the staircase.
“Wait, hold on, I think someone else is he-“ Before she could finish, the sound of a gunshot rang out, and Laurence hit the ground.
Mae didn’t want to look. She already knew what had happened, especially as an all to familiar sadistic and patronizing laugh came down the stairway, along with the man it belonged to.
“I can’t believe how EASY it is to get away with this shit with you people! I mean, really, he barely even CHECKED the house to see if anyone was around! I don’t know whether to think it funny or sad, honestly.” He stepped fully out of the shadow of the stairway as he finished his sentence, and for the first time, Mae was able to actually see more than a silhouetted figure.
And any retort she had caught in her throat as she did, and her eyes widened. That was… But why… How…?
“Ah, this IS your first time actually catching a good glimpse of me, isn’t it? Oh, but don’t even bother calling out my name in surprise or any of that trope-y nonsense. That’s not even my real name any who.” The man sneered. “Ah, but how poetic this is considering this little game is at an end. I heard everything you two were conversing about, and by my thinking…” He aimed the gun he was holding at Mae, who was completely frozen in fear at this point. “Well, if the cause of my little problem is gone, then the effect should be as well, hm?
Let’s test it out.”
Mae squoze her eyes shut, bracing herself for the end. The REAL end.
…But before the trigger could be pulled…
Laurence groaned, getting to his feet. “…Ow… That REALLY wasn’t cool, man.” He tilted his head, hitting one side of it with his palm until the bullet that had killed him fell onto the floor.
Murder Man and Mae just stared at him, mouth agape, as he did some stretches and let out a sigh. “Man, I was hoping this would be quick and easy, but ah well. I’ll just have to make du-“
Before he could finish talking, Murder Man made his move, jumping at Laurence with a syringe in his hand. Said syringe found itself firmly planted into Laurence’s shoulder, and the boy began to feel weak and drowsy.
“Damn…” He slurred, trying to stay conscious and throwing a weak punch at the man, which did… Nothing. “Mae, you… need to get outta… here…” He got out before looking over to where she stood, only to find her out cold on the ground with a syringe sticking out of her arm as well.
“Oh… Dammit…”
And with that, Laurence collapsed into an unconscious heap as well. The serial killer stood there for a minute catching his breath, before lowering his glasses and pinching the bridge of his nose. Oh god fucking dammit with this shit-
Well, he guessed he now had TWO unkillable teenagers he would be keeping in his basement. Fucking great. Phenomenal even.
After this, he was going to need a whole pot of coffee, maybe even more.
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
Mae finally came to, only to find herself back in the murder basement.
Oh. Great.
…Was that all a dream? Surely, it had to be right? Yeah, yeah she probably had just fallen asleep while thinking about… Things. Yes, that had to be it…
“Man, this place sucks, huh? I can’t believe you’ve been stuck in here for like, a week.”
She whirled around, only to see Laurence going around and inspecting the room. The door had several dents in it as well, as if he had been trying (and failing) to break it down while she was out.
Which.
Which meant that-
Oh God It Was Not A Dream.
Somehow, things had just gotten So Much More Confusing

Mae's eyes slowly opened. Wh... Wha...
Her eyes widened, and she sat up immediately recalling... SOME of what had happened. She had gotten pissed at Mai, and then ran off, and then...
Ough. Now her head was throbbing, great. She looked around a bit, eyes slowly adjusting to the dimly (if at all) lit environment she was now in. Oh no, she had seen enough crime dramas to know what this was. It was a classic murder basement. CLASSIC. So great wonderful, she had either been kidnaped and was going to rot in here or in about 3 minutes so serial killer or some shit was going to come down here and stab her, G R E A T . Weird that she didn't even feel a little bit scared but at this point she wasn't fucking surprised.
....Still, the door WAS steel... And though she wasn't physically strong enough to break it down, she could probably melt it with her stand.*
Alright Mai, just.... Pretend the door is your sister. Easy enough, right???
....Well apparently not since that seemed to do nothing. God DAMMIT- Wait. She held her hand in front of her now more intense glare, only to find.... No temperature difference at all what. HUH???
Now, the panic of being trapped in a murder basement was actually setting in. Oh god, and she couldn't summon her stand either how fucking GREAT oh she was going to die here wasn't she oh god-
...She completely froze up as she heard footsteps. Shakily turning towards the door, she could do nothing but stare as she listened to the footsteps slowly grow closer.
...So this was it, huh? She was going to an early grave, and all she would be remembered for was being a complete bitch and acting like hot shit when she wasn't.
...She wished she could have at least seen her friends one more time. And her dad, and big brother, and...
...Well if she knew this was going to happen, then.... Maybe she would have apologized to Ma-
Her thoughts were interrupted by the door creaking open, catching her off guard and causing her to stumble back, falling to the ground.
A silhouetted figure emerged. She couldn't make out any features, except for a pair of sickeningly purple eyes.
That, and that the figure was holding a knife.
Time seemed to slow down after this. She knew that the figure was going for her neck. She tried to scream, but nothing seemed to come out. She suddenly felt tears rolling down her face, and then...
Everything went black, and she could feel the life draining from her body.
That was that.
Mae Okane was dead.
....For all of like 2 seconds.
She opened her eyes, blinking. Once. Twice. Three times. Before sitting up, staring up at the Murder figure, and exclaiming with just the MOST confusion and bewilderment she had EVER felt, "Did...
DID YOU MISS???????"
At almost the same time, the figure exclaimed "OH GOD FUCKING DAMMIT-" before slamming to door behind them and stomping back up the stairs, leaving Mae alone to listen to the muttered trail of curse words they left in their wake.
Mae stood up, looking herself and the area over. There was fresh blood on the floor, and fresh blood on her clothes and skin, but no wounds at ALL despite her VIVDLY REMEMBERING getting HER THROAT SLIT-
What. Just WHAT.
WHAT THE FUCK WAS GOING ON?????
*authors note bc i don't know if i ever mentioned it it: Mae's stand lets her raise or lower the temperature of an area depending on the intensity of her glare; it will always activate when she glares at something/one, but she can kind of control whether it's a temperature drop or rise. it's much simpler than it sounds hcbvhjcb-

Mae knocked gently on the door of the science classroom, let out a small breath she wasn't aware she had been holding. Alright, she was just going to talk about things, what the hell was she so nervous about? She was cool, she was pretty, and she was capable, surely she could do something as simple as thi-
Before she could finish psyching herself up (or get to the part in her thoughts were she started thinking this might not be such a great idea) she heard a faint "Come in" from the other side of the door. She pushed to door open, and softly closed it behind her before speaking. "Good afternoon, Satsujin-sensei, I'm here to talk about my-" She stopped mid sentence as she actually noticed what - or more specifically, WHO - was in front of her.
There were two chairs pulled up to Suikai's desk; One unoccupied, and the other occupied by Mai, who sensing that things were about to get VERY awkward, gave a little wave as an olive branch of sorts.
An olive branch that was not very well received.
Suikai clasped his hands together, a pleasant smile on his face. "Ah, Mae! Come, take a seat and we can talk. I believe you wanted some feedback on your essay draft, no?"
Mae ignored this, pointing at her sister in an accusatory manner. "Why is SHE here?" She spat, eye twitching a bit. Mai felt a chill.
"Ah, well, I noticed that you two don't seem to get along too well, and as such have decided to try and help you sort out your differences! Mai agreed to help out, hence why she's here." He smiled, beaming positivity, a gesture that did nothing but sour Mae's mood even more. She had been planning on talking about things, sure, but not like THIS. She begrudgingly walked over and sat down, arms crossed and expression foul. "Forget the essay, let's just get this over with."
Mai looked from Suikai to her sister and back. "Well, no, I mean... If now's not a good time, we can do it later, I'll just go-"
"Now, hold on Mai. Just leaving things like this isn't going to help make things better. Besides, it's not as if you have any other pressing matters right now, yes? There may not be another day when you both are free for a while." Suikai responded, taking his own seat.
Mai rubbed the back of her head. "I suppose you have a point... I mean, I do have something to do later, but this shouldn't take that long..."
"We both know you'd rather be off doing something with him, so why don't you just go already." Mae grumbled, glaring at the floor.
"Him?" Suikai asked, looking at Mai inquisitively.
"Oh, ah... My boyfriend. It's our first anniversary today." She replied, looking both a bit bashful, and smiling softly.
"Oh, congratulations!" Suikai replied, clasping his hands together once again, an action which made Mae fume. "That's wonderful! Oh, I'm sure you're a wonderful girlfrien-"
At that moment, Mae decided that she had had enough. She didn't com here to listen to yet ANOTHER person praise her sister while she sat there just having to take it. To take the fact that she wasn't as good, or liked, or anything. She flew up from her seat, chair flying back a bit. She had had ENOUGH with today dammit, with everything that could go wrong going wrong, and not to have to hear this, she.
She was finally going to say how she really felt.
"Oh yes, BRAVO MAI. BRAVO for once again taking EVERYTHING from me. What, was the admiration of our peers not enough, hmmm? The fact that you're always the smart one, the pretty one, the popular one? No. NO, of COURSE not. No no no, you just HAD to go ahead and get with the boy I LIKED TOO, HUH?"
Mai's eyes widened. What? She hadn't...
"AND NOW," Mae continued, angrily pacing her furious gaze set "Since it's YOUR anniversary, I get to have EVERYONE RUB IT IN MY FACE! 'Oh Mae tell your sister I said congrats about her and Rizo!' 'Oh Mae could you give your sister this and tell her congrats on her anniversary? Thanks!' I'M SICK OF IT!" She stopped pacing walking over to her sister and grabbing her by the shirt, half pulling her up out of her seat. "I HATE being compared to you constantly, I HATE that you take everything away from me, and I HATE YOU!" She hollered, before dropping Mai, and fleeing the room. Mai immediately scrambled to her feet, rushing out the door "Mae, wait come back, I didn't-"
...But she was already gone.
Suikai, gently placed a hand on Mai's shoulder. "...I'll go look for her." Without another word he left the classroom, beginning his search for the emotionally volatile teen.
Mai just stood in the doorway.
...Why hadn't she told her any of this before? If she had then....
Maybe this could have been avoided.....

"Mae... are you alright?" Nonon asks with a surprising amount of concern. (moriohs-little-demon)
"Oh, hi Nonon-chan. Uh, I think I am now. I had an awful headache yesterday, but now, um... I'm doing as well as I could be, I guess..." She awkwardly fiddles with her hands. Oddly enough, she seems to not have worn makeup today.

“Oi. Mean girl. I apologize about before. Can we shake hands and learn from our mistakes?” - Umbra Presley (ask-spw-mercenary)
She let out a small sigh. "I suppose so, though a nice first step would be to address me using my actual name... But, that aside, of course Presley. I am always open to resolving things civilly." She stuck out her hand, a small but genuine smile on her face. [@ask-spw-mercenary]

“Oh great, the mean girls are sticking up for one another. Go ahead and have a club together you damn dogs.” - Umbra Presley (ask-spw-mercenary)
"All I am doing is simply sticking to my values. You were the one who attempted to punch and otherwise harm another student, Presley. Not to mention threats, and other low blows such as insinuating she had a poor home life. Sure, she reciprocated, but only after you started." She glared at Umbra, her gaze piercing. You feel a chill go over you, almost as if you turned on the AC and didn't expect it to be at full blast.
