⸻ headcanon.

leo rarely, if ever, talks about himself.

the few times he does are when he's aggravated; for example, his session with dr. whyte, his dialogue in release therapy -

"you think you can get rid of me? you goddamn runt! i'm the one who belongs here, who deserves to be here. [...] you made me. you put me in your own head for the sake of your pathetic career."

as well as a few of his hunter and director lines, but never anything in depth.

he purposefully skirts around the topic of himself and his past, oftentimes aggressively diverting the conversation. his statements about himself are often very impersonal and stated as fact, rather than subjective opinions.

this is primarily due to leo's training, project pravitas, and the drugging he endured during the six years in dixmor asylum. having been conditioned into becoming a perfect assassin, much of his personal feelings surrounding himself have been snuffed out to the point where he seldom has thoughts about himself at all. he has goals, of course - to be free and released from under the thumb of the project - but truthfully, he doesn't have much of an identity outside of being a killer. his likes, dislikes, hobbies, habits... he doesn't, to his knowledge, have any. he kills, and that's all he does. that's his purpose.

he doesn't talk about himself because he doesn't know who he is. yes, he's leo kasper, perfect assassin ⸻ but that's all he knows. in his eyes, he's one-dimensional, and escaping the project might be the only thing that'd change that.

#I WAS THINKING ABOUT THIS A LOT WHILE I WAS TRYING TO NAP EARLIER i find leos aversion to talking about himself extremely interesting #i think its very telling that one of the first pieces of dialogue we get from him in promo material is him admitting that like.#he doesnt know if he smokes or not. thats a really interesting thing to me #it could totally be Just the drugs. but his aversion to any kind of self reflective or introspective speech thruout the game is interesting #「 altered state // headcanons .
