    They don’t really talk like this that often. It’s not that they don’t get time alone, because there is plenty of that. There have been plenty of whispered conversations and sweet words exchanged between the two. This conversation wasn’t one of those. In the darkness of their shared room there’s no sweet words that can chase away the horror that Shiro sees behind closed eyes. The nightmares don’t come as much as they used to, but they still do and when they happen neither of them are getting sleep for a while. Keith is a light sleeper. The minute Shiro started showing signs of distress he was awake, and ready for him.

   That’s where they were now. Keith with his arms wrapped tightly around Shiro’s shoulders, and Shiro tucked in close to his chest. He runs a soothing hand up and down Shiro’s spine even after the other’s breathing finds a calm tone.

   They don’t talk about what Shiro went through when he was locked up by the Galra. They don’t talk about what it was like being trapped inside the mind of the Black Lion. They should. Obviously, they definitely should but Keith never knew how to break that barrier. How do you really get into the  fact that Shiro had died? That thought alone made Keith sick to his stomach. If he didn’t want to think about it, what made him think Shiro did as well?

  But tonight is different. Keith doesn’t have to poke and prod to get bits of information out of Shiro. He’s giving it freely as he clings to Keith, and it kills him. It kills him because whatever Shiro had gone through he can’t fix. He can’t chase it away, or make it better.

  His breathing comes out soft, and hitches when he inhales again, but Keith keeps a proper hold of himself. This wasn’t about him.

  “You sure those were dreams and not nightmares?” A poor, pathetic, attempt at humor and Keith frowns at it before continuing, “sorry. . .trying my best over here.”

ASSORTED INJURIES.

                 ❛ ONLY A LITTLE BIT. ❜

                 there was probably some way to stop natasha’s fall besides shooting through her uniform just above her shoulder with a grappling arrow, but it was the best thing clint could think of at the time. he thought he did pretty good considering how a she didn’t fall, and b he didn’t really shoot her just her uniform. that was some damn good aim, and he should deserve a freaking award for it. natasha seems the least bit happy with him however, so clint gives her a bit of a sheepish grin. he’ll have to offer something up for forgiveness later, but he was still hyped up on energy from the last fight.

                 ❛ oh c’mon! did you not see that shot? it was perfect! ❜ the least she could do for him saving her life was acknowledge that it was a good shot, ❛ don’t give me that look it’s not like i actually shot you. just your uniform. technically i shot at you so i should get bonus points for that.  ❜

it’s late. very very late. they’ve been talking like this for hours, just the two of them. they had years, and years of time to catch up on after all. steve can remember nights like these back in the old days when it was just the two of them. most of the time steve was sick with a fever when bucky would stay up all night with him. he doesn’t remember a lot of those conversations, but he does remember bucky being there nonstop. bucky had always been there for steve, and steve knew that he’d return the favor to him someday.

steve adjusts where he’s sitting on the couch, shifting closer until he’s shoulder to shoulder with bucky. the only light in steve’s apartment comes from the television screen, and at this point neither are even paying attention to it. lifetimes. they really had lived lifetimes, and somehow they kept coming back to each other. kept finding each other even when the world tried to keep them apart.

clint didn’t see the attack coming. his reflexes were quick, sure, but he was only human afterall. he made mistakes. this mistake? it was turning out to be a big problem. the thing is, clint’s used to getting beat to hell during a fire fight. it just part of his nature. he gets beat, he takes some time to heal, and then he gets back out there. it’s that simple. it’s the way he had always been, but the problem was that he often times put himself in the line of fire without thinking. it sometimes was instinct just to jump into battle and keep going forward like nothing was different. he was the only human on the team, and he was more than likely to get hurt in any kind of encounter. it was completely normal.

and then there was steve rogers. captain america. mister hero. the thing was, clint was used to getting his ass handed to him in a fight. he always came out on top sure, but he never left without a few bruises. steve could understand that right? once upon a time he was just a scrawny kid getting into fights in the back alleys of brooklyn. so why was it that the minute clint is about to get hit, there’s another body standing between him and enemy fire? of course he’s annoyed! the idea of needing to be protected by the rest of his team was a hit to his ego that he really didn’t need.

                 ❛ cap don’t! ❜  the shout fell on deaf ears and the impact from the blast that combined with steve’s shield still knocked clint back and off his feet. the world around him is a blur but he manages to scramble to his feet,  ❛  rogers!  ❜

late nights.

                 STEVE DOESN’T HAVE TO SLEEP MUCH thanks to the serum. even when he does sleep it’s not comfortable, but he still wakes up feeling well rested. it’s been a long time since he’s known what physical exhaustion felt like though he felt the mental exhaustion well enough. it had to be worse for bucky. all those long, tortuous, years that he was under hydra’s control still had to haunt him. steve’s own ghosts couldn’t compare to that.

                 he takes a seat beside bucky on the couch, one of the only pieces of furniture in steve’s small apartment in brooklyn. the place was practically empty since he hardly ever spent any time here anymore. only when his best friend called for him, needing space or a familiar face. bucky had been there for steve when he had nothing, and steve had a second chance to return the favor as much as possible.

                 ❛   I NEVER ASKED YOU TO!   ❜   he cannot help the shout that comes out of him at her words. it’s rare for them to argue, but when they do it’s always heated and spiteful. clint had a bit of a temper at times, especially when it came to people telling him how it should be. the one thing he cannot stand in his life is when someone makes a decision for him. natasha was guilty of doing it often, and most of the time it was because she had a serious dislike for her own self. she may know him better than anyone else out there, but she didn’t understand how far he would go for her sometimes. she didn’t seem to understand how much clint actually cared about her.

it was incredibly frustrating at times whenever clint was trying to get a point across, and natasha just shut him down thinking she was always right. granted, there was a rare occasion that she was wrong, but it was always hard to tell her that. natasha was just as stubborn as clint was at times, and she could hold her ground a lot longer than he could most days.

        KAGAMI ALWAYS FEELS SAFEST with a basketball in his hands. ever since he was a kid and was introduced to the game by tatsuya. it was what he used to impress people and then he just fell in love with the game. it was easier to think about basketball than it was to think about anything else. easier to focus on the strategies on the court and what move to make next against his opponent. everything else outside of basketball was too complicated for him to focus on.

        take right now for example. kagami’s used to spending a lot of his time alone. it wasn’t anything unusual for him to spend holidays, including his birthday, by himself. he’s come to expect it. what he hasnt’ come to expect is a promise broken by his father. since kagami moved back to japan he was supposed to be living with him, but found himself living on his own. he didn’t complain about it, in fact kagami was learning he prefered it that way, but. . .

        but when he’s promised a dinner with his father only to be stood up it makes him feel unsettled and the isolation starts to weigh on him. which is why he was outside in the rain, practicing his three pointers. he doesn’t notice murasakibara until the other speaks drawing kagami’s attention away from his own thoughts.
