Dial A for Aunties

GOSH, how do I start this review? The entire time I spent reading "Dial A for Aunties," I had never felt bored AT ALL. I might be slightly biased because I'm Chinese-Indonesian–like Meddy (the main character)–and the book included many Indonesian things, but I did have a great time reading it.

Dial A for Aunties follows Meddy, who accidentally kills her blind date. She then ends up with her mother and three auties helping her to get rid of the body. It turns out that getting rid of a dead body is harder than they thought. 

I was searching for a light and fun reading, and Dial A for Aunties was exactly that. And this is not anywhere near the heavy mystery/thriller plot; I might say it's a bit unrealistic, but we're all here for the fun part. Some of the cultural references reminded me of my own. For example, in terms of wedding guests, my mom told me I should reserve (at least) 1.000 places for my father's friends alone. Not even my friends, family, and my future spouse's guest list are included. That, for sure, is a Chinese-Indo thing. 

The aunties' interactions with one another were SO FUNNY that I often laughed OUT LOUD (my sister was horrified by the way I laughed). It also had its prominent share of the romance part (that I did not expect since I dove into the book half-blind). I LOVE NATHAN. I love him a lot. I imagined him as this very charming specimen I'd surely want to date. 

OH, AND THE PLOT TWISTS??? I couldn't put it down and slept at five because of it. I COULDN'T STOP. NOT WHEN SOMETHING'S HAPPENING. AGAIN. I HAD TO KNOW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN NEXT. I finished it amidst the hectic office building moving and me moving to my place. Reading this book at the end of the day felt like a reward. It's totally, totally enjoyable.

Dial A for Aunties will be a perfect light summer read. So grab a copy and get into the world of Meddy and her Aunties!🧧🥢
