Crono swung his katana and slashed the golem from behind, causing it to let go of Robo. Robo took the opportunity to punch the golem, his newly reinforced fist cracking the hard rock-like skin of the summon.
“It would appear your earlier prediction that Dalton wishes to wear us out is accurate,” Robo noted to Crono as he dodged the golem’s fist.
“Don’t remind me,” Crono grumbled. He quickly cast a bolt of lightning at the golem.
While the spell did cause the golem to growl in pain, the golem’s body crackled with electricity. Crono and Marle barely dodged the lighting that burst forth from the golem. Robo fell to one knee as the electrifying attack hit him.
“Robo!” called out Marle.
“I am okay,” Robo assured, getting back to his feet. It took a second for his system to recover from the shock, just in time for him to dodge the golem’s punch again.
Marle quickly cast an ice spell to freeze the golem in place. The golem snarled in pain from the sharp shards of ice cutting it. It glared at Marle and a burst of icy air swirled around it like a blizzard. The cold air hurt Crono and Marle.
“It appears it will mimic any magical attacks,” Robo noted as he fired a laser at the golem to draw it away from Marle.
Marle quickly healed Crono and herself. She loaded her crossbow and said, “Then we stick to regular attacks.”
Crono adjusted the grip on his katana and nodded. “Let’s hurry so we can help the others.”
Meanwhile, Ayla and Glenn dealt with the golem that had attacked them.
“How’s your arm?” Ayla asked Glenn as she swung her mace at the Golem, causing its rocky fist to crack.
Glenn had done his best to keep his prosthetic’s movements to a minimum. He didn’t feel like he was out of magic like he had when they fought the Tyranno. Even so, he knew he had to be careful.
“I’m doing alright,” he replied, dodging the Golem.
The two of them found a rhythm to dodging the golem, only occasionally taking a punch or being struck by small iron spheres the golem would conjur, causing injuries that Glenn would heal quickly. Glenn was also grateful that the Masamune could cut the golem’s rocky flesh.
Eventually, Glenn stabbed the Masamune into the golem and the beast yet out a hoarse scream before it crumbled away and became a pile of rubble.
Glenn briefly breathed a sigh of relief, only to hear Janus scream out Lucca’s name. He and Ayla both looked in the direction of Janus’s voice and saw Lucca fly backwards and land near them, an ivory spike sticking out of her in the torso.
He and Ayla rushed to Lucca’s side. Glenn wasted no time quickly tracing a rune to heal Lucca. He told Ayla to be ready to pull out the spike as soon as he was done. As he held his hands over the wound, praying he could heal her in time, Glenn was startled by an agonizing scream. He only looked up when Ayla let out a gasp.
There stood Dalton, clutching a bloody stump and a small sphere of darkness just above him. Janus stood defiantly before Dalton, surrounded by an aura of void-black shadows.
“Oh my god…” was all Glenn could utter as he focused on healing Lucca. He and Ayla looked away as the sphere grew and Dalton was dragged towards it by an unseen force.

normal brain: Ozzie, Slash, and Flea just scooped up Janus and raised him to be their lord magus, despite being human, because Janus was so powerful.
galaxy brain: The generals saw Janus use magic after being teleported to 600AD and just assumed he was a mystic/fiend too - they realized not long after that he was a human as he grew up, but they'd already put all their eggs in this one basket.
universe brain: The generals just. Never actually realized Janus wasn't human. They figured he was a fucked up imp or something - humans hadn't used magic for 12,000 years. Janus never said anything because he wanted to use them back, and he wasn't exactly about to admit he was the same species as their worst enemy. Post-Ocean Palace Magus shows up to raid Ozzie's keep for his shit, and Ozzie, Slash, and Flea are all like "Bro, what the fuck, why are you siding with humans, we thought you DIED" and Magus is all "I'm a human lmao" and then blasts them while they're still spluttering.

Marle panted, ready to summon more ice but after a few unsettling moments, it was clear Yakra had finally died. She looked past the Mystic’s body and Glenn to see her father watching from the doorway to the dungeon. She stood there as he and the guards and servants they had rescued came out onto the wide stone bridge. The chancellor stepped forward and stood beside the king.
“Nadia, are you alright?” King Guardia asked. He had countless questions for his daughter and her friends but for now, he’d settle for just knowing she was okay.
Marle nodded. “They scratched me a bit but I’m okay.”
Approaching Crono and Marle, Glenn traced a new rune in the air and spoke the words, “Dozhd' istseleniya.”
A misty rain fell over the trio. While they remained dry in the magical rain, it felt cool on their skin and their injuries healed. Glenn grinned at Crono and Marle.
“Little trick Spekkio taught me,” he confessed. “I would have used it back in the caverns but I pushed it with that final spell.”
Marle smiled at Glenn. Turning her attention to her father, she walked towards him with no idea what to say to him. What could she say? She had yelled such awful things at him before she ran away to save the future. Things she really didn’t mean. If she hadn’t needed to get the Rainbow shell, she could have lost her only parent.
“Father… I-“
“Marle!”
Everyone looked up to see Ayla waving from the Epoch just above the bridge. She grinned and said, “Lucca and Janus said you might need some help. Looks like you were strong enough without us.”
King Guardia and the others stared at the flying machine that was hovering off to the side of the bridge. They could see two other teenagers next to the woman who had shouted to their princess. There also appeared to be what looked like a metal statue at the controls.
Marle, Crono and Glenn watched as Ayla stood up and leapt onto the wing of the Epoch from the cockpit. She took a running leap from the wing and landed on the bridge near Marle.
“Always wanted to do that,” Ayla grinned. She looked back up at the Epoch and called out, “You guys coming?”
“Janus and Lucca will be right there but I think it would be safer for me to land and be permitted entry,” Robo called out. The only reason they had come this way was they had seen the battle as they were approaching and thought to assist by having Janus teleport himself, Lucca and Ayla onto the bridge.
After Janus and Lucca teleported down by Crono and Glenn, Marle sighed and smiled at Ayla. “Why don’t you go help Crono and the others make sure the way back to the throne room is secure? Just subdue any guards til we can be sure there’s no more Mystics.”
Ayla nodded. She quickly ran over to Crono and Glenn while Marle walked over to her father.
“Father, I-“
“Princess Nadia, if I may speak,” the chancellor interjected. “Perhaps we should continue this… away from the pile of Mystic bodies.”
Marle nodded, “Of course Chancellor… Father?”
King Guardia nodded in agreement. He and the chancellor followed Marle and her friends into the main castle where they would have much to discuss.
Later, while the guards assisted Crono and the others in ensuring that no more of the staff were Mystics in disguise, Marle and her father talked in his study. There was a brief moment of tense silence as they sat down to talk.
“Nadia, I would be lying to you and myself if I didn’t admit I am still upset you ran away, but we both said some foolish things. Especially me,” King Guardia said with a sigh. “I should have taken the time to listen to what you l had instead of making you feel like you had to hide things from me and run away.”
Marle felt the tears building in her eyes. “I was wrong to not consider your feelings, father. Crono’s mom tried to tell me that you were just looking out for me.”
King Guardia chuckled. “Is that so? Crono is the young man with the red hair, correct?”
Marle nodded. “I can introduce everyone. They’re really nice, all of them. I trust them with my life. They’re my best friends.”
Seeing a look of concern on her father’s face, Marle continued, “I know that sounds crazy. For you it’s been a couple of weeks since I said all those terrible things and ran away, but I’ve been through so much with them. It almost feels like I’ve known them my whole life.”
“I won’t lie anymore, father,” Marle said. “We can talk about what I’ve seen, about Crono… about Mom…”
“Your mother...... it's been so long and I didn’t understand her last words,” King Guardia said sadly. “She told me that one day, when you were grown, you would bring home the person you loved and that I should greet the both of you warmly… that it would be a wonderful and unforgettable day.”
“You were there when Mom died?” Marle asked.
King Guardia nodded sadly. “When she fell ill, I did everything I could to be there for her and you. You were so young, how could either of us explain she was not long for this world? You would run through the halls with your friend and saying things like ‘Daddy, it’s fun having all my favorite people.’ Seeing you so happy, she felt reassured that things would be alright. It brought her peace in the end.”
Marle was surprised to see tears in her father’s eyes. He wiped them away and said, “Even after twelve years… I miss her dearly and I wish she could see you now all grown up.”
“I miss Mom too,” Marle admitted. “I… I’d like to think she would have liked Crono.”
King Guardia nodded. “Speaking of him, why don’t you start again from the beginning on how you met him and the others.”
“I use to call you ‘daddy’?” Marle asked, changing the subject.
King Guardia nodded. “You did.”
“I think I might be too old to say that now but…. I’ll tell you everything I can, Dad.” Marle said with a smile.
