Luna’s hand settles upon the doorknob, and she pauses to take a deep breath. Better days seem fewer and further between under this starless sky, with word reaching her of no less than twelve of their own falling during a search and rescue mission. It was all she could do to console the survivors. 

 With the world uncertain and the King lost to them for now, the remaining citizenry had looked to their Oracle as their guide. It is a heavy burden she bears, but one she dare not shift onto her precious son. He does not know (and perhaps never will), just what it means to Luna to return to that smile after untold hours of toil and suffering. That sweet, happy smile, an echo of his father’s, blissfully ignorant of all he has missed: the warmth of the sun, the grass between his toes, the world beyond Lestallum and all it has become.

 Straightening her shoulders and preparing to greet Novus brightly, Luna opens the door and steps into the room. ❝I am returned from the meeting, my darling.❞
