we've all seen merlin with a sword. tempted to say arthur's reaction wasn't just fair, but if anything too small. also, yeah, probably best to keep sharp objects away from him regardless.
SOMEONE HAND ME A BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE BECAUSE WE ARE ABOUT TO FUCKING CELEBRATE!
I'M IN TEARS AND SMILING SO WIDELY AND HAPPILY! I'VE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY FOR ANY ACTOR WINNING AN OSCAR BUT CILLIAN, YOU BLOODY BRILLIANT LEGEND, YOU FUCKING DESERVE IT!
AS MY DAD PUT IT SO ELOQUENTLY 'THOSE EXPRESSIVE EYES WERE GOING TO TAKE HIM PLACES!'
IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING!
I'm a little overwhelmed...
Cillian Murphy wins Best Actor | 96th Academy Awards
So this wonderful, brilliant man just won the Oscar! Who else knew from the moment they saw him on screen, that this was not just any ordinary actor, this was supposed to be an Oscar winner?
I normally don't like the Oscars but if there is something they did right, it was giving Cillian Murphy the Oscar for Best Actor... and I do not say this lightly, he is a magnificently best damn actor I've ever seen because he managed to make my dad, a man who never cared for TV shows, sit through all the seasons of Peaky Blinders, completely in awe of him and then get everyone tickets to Oppenheimer simply because he realized Cillian would be its lead actor.
My dad who has never cared about celebrities or movies or tv shows, is right now so happy about Cillian Murphy's achievements!
I think that speaks to how much of a great performer he is and how much he really deserves this Oscar.
So proud of you Cillian!
So apparently sources have been cutting off the tail end of Cillian’s speech where he speaks Gaeilge/Irish, so here’s this clip for those who haven’t seen it🤭
i don't know man. but sometimes i think about percy breaking the news to nico that his sister's dead. and nico plummetting into depression, screaming at the boy he once thought of as a hero to die. and percy watching this ten-year-old disappear into the shadows mid sobbing. and percy's shaking and traumatized and exhausted. but he forces that pain down his throat and accepts the role as the prophecy kid so nico has a chance to create a future he wants. while percy's is set in stone. and i don't know man.
it must be so awkward to be one of dionysus's kids at camp halfblood like not only is ur father literally twelve feet away from you playing cards with chiron but he's a campus meme. he is forced to stay legally sober because ur grandpa is mad at him. he burns through 80 diet cokes a day. he regularly fake claims kids in order to bully them into getting him wine. he's just some insane little guy. and he's ur DAD
that scene in tlo where thalia tells percy he can't start feeling sorry for luke bc luke made his choices. and thalia reveals that the reason they couldn't make it to camp in time for all of them to make it to camp was bc luke kept picking fights. and annabeth never saw this as wrong bc luke was her hero. so thalia had to pick up the pieces. and percy thinking both that luke was put in a cruel position and that luke was putting others in a cruel position. and percy is the only character who understood both sides of luke bc annabeth sees only the best of him and thalia sees only the worst. and that's why percy is the prophecy kid and the one who gives luke the knife. bc annabeth had spent the entire series essentially giving luke the knife when he didn't deserve it. and thalia was never going to give luke the knife. but percy is the only one who can see exactly when luke deserves the knife.
I seen a lot of people argue at Percy is too smart in the show but One, Sally Jackson used Greek myths as bedtime stories, she took him to museums, she did her best to teach him about the God's and monster's that were gonna come to hurt him, was he ment to not learn anything? And Two, Perseus Jackson isn't an idiot! The books are from HIS point of view and he's is an unreliable narrator that THINKS he's an idiot. He's not ACTUALLY an idiot.
the thing about zuko becoming firelord at the end of the show is that it's not like. a flaw of the writing that an inexperienced teenager takes on political leadership. it's important symbolically both in universe and to the show that zuko is the one to lead his country into its decolonial peaceful future bc he is the member of his family who broke the cycle and took a moral stance about the war. iroh is older and experienced, yes, and we know his moral stance on the war, but there's a lot of baggage there, what with the siege of ba sing se and being the brother of the old fire lord. it doesn't convey that same sense of hope for the future and change, either to the viewer or the in-universe fire nation. zuko's kinda politically perfect - he's still part of the ruling family so it's not perceived as foreign usurpation, but he's young and his banishment and rebelliousness make it believable that he'll actually make change in the nation. and since this is a kids show where these kids are the ones who will save the world when the adults failed it feels very full-circle to have him assume that role. will it be tough on him? you betcha! is that a valid topic to explore in post-canon fic? absolutely! was this the right choice, both in-universe and from a narrative perspective? also very much yes
