I appreciate that the protagonist of Again!! is such a loser. I don’t mean a normalcore loser. I’m talking Loser.

#liveblog #again!! #i guess the distinction I’m making is #well maybe my impression of the genre of anime losers is wrong or outdated idk #but a lot of protag losers I feel fall into the equivalent of ‘the geek table’ in American school films #they’re otaku maybe #or they’re wimpy #but they’re not necessarily completely alone they in fact fit in a recognizable social group #that other characters (and viewers) can recognize easily and react accordingly #this protagonist though is a loser because he legitimately has no social life #(which honestly is his fault. ‘everybody ignored me they preferred to pretend I didn’t exist’) #(dude your main strategy for dealing with bullies was pretend to be suicidal) #(wow I wonder why people found it easier to just ignore you) #the power fantasy of a normalcore loser is maybe stuff like ‘get the girl’ and ‘defeat the jock’ #this guy’s power fantasy that he’s living out right now is straight up #‘have an effect on the world’ #anyways the series does kinda just. does romance manga things… #it’s annoying honestly #sometimes you just tolerate things when reading manga.
