its such a bizarre feeling when ur suddenly necessitated to acknowledge a thought process that a. u didnt even notice was there because its so natural to u and b. that other ppl dont think like that

#*deep space noises* #its why i had (and continue to trip up on) such confusion around colourblindness in regards to race #what i thought was ~nuanced colour blindness~ turned out to largely be a fundamental misunderstanding of the term #and much more akin to the theory of racelessness #(ie. that race isnt real but racism is due to its invention #and that the goal is acknowledging difference but seeing it as a neutral and something to be celebrated #but still being aware and proactive abt dismantling racism being experienced now #(khadija mbowe has a fab insightful video on it that i would highly recommend)) #ANYWAY i just encountered this just now trying to understand the difference between colour-blind and colour conscious casting #and i think the reason im getting confused is that stuff that seemed so obvious and natural to me would not come up in colour blind casting #ie. be aware that actors of colour get hired way less #and acknowledging your casting choices and why you may be hiring white actors for leads more #or putting actors of colour in villainous or subservient roles a lot #and speaking with actors abt if theyd like to bring anything to the table in the performance #apparently there are ppl that dont? do that?? #its always a strange feeling #like not everyone worries abt dying at least once a day. or does not like to think in nuance #wild
