⸻ one of these days , the architect might be spared of the scrutiny under his roommate. it was a tendency , that kaveh acknowledged and respected ( to an extent ) , but sometimes it would be overstepping. after all , everyone had secrets — even scholars , and yet , alhaitham is determined to deprive the artisan of his stockpile.

he tousles his hair , fidgeting with fibres of sunlight , as he attempts to muster a response that might pass under the radar of the scribe. whose eyes seem to resemble the likes of machinery rather than the living. ❝ oh , i have plenty to say on a daily basis. but , only now , you care to bring it up ? ah , that’s just like you , alhaitham. choosing to discuss things only when you deem it fit ! ❞ he lets more than he intended to slip past reddened lips , vexed from his conjured frustrations.

he can only hope that it is enough to deter the scholar from prying any further.

but his reprimand does not cease there , for he solidifies his point in the redirection towards his awaiting project. and should the bothersome disturb him further , he bares his back to him , displaying his disinclination more than his words could ever convey.

⸻ pointed gaze situates itself on the object , sitting starkly on their coffee table. for some reason , alhaitham viewed the miscellaneous article as needing to be isolated from their other assorted trinkets. perhaps that was due to the fact , the scribe simply could not stand by while he observed some unknown item. he wanted to know. needed to know its purpose.

was it possible ? that kaveh finally knew something the great alhaitham did not ? oh , this was too good to be true. he’s almost tempted to let it slide , and witness the scholar spiral , antsy from the missing space where an answer should nestle. ❝ you don’t know , alhaitham ? ❞ even the architect cannot fight the urge to drag this out , curious to spot any feature indicative of vexation.

❝ why not take a guess then. your texts would have covered this instrument somewhere along the way. unless , you skimmed pages and happened to miss it. but could that be possible , i mean , we are talking about you. ❞
