I- I adore how you wrote aether! He’s so straight forward and to the point that I think even the most dense reader would be able to put it together. And the fact this man held a flame for reader for FIVE whole nations? Wild, look at the pining and adoration of this man. He was in Fontaine and came all the way to mondstat JUST to be taken care of by what was at the time his crush (since there was no accepting yet). The guts of this man.

But also like- the vulnerability of him asking reader to stay. He already lost his sister right in front of him. Of course he doesn’t want to lose someone else. And ‘I’m staying for you?’ Sushdyrheus- my heart. It gone.

The fact that reader’s reasoning as well to not accept due to the fact that the traveler is gonna just leave one day also makes so much sense. Maybe I’m just bad at finding them but I don’t see that touched often. Man travels to different worlds, the only reason he met reader was because he is stuck in Teyvat. I can absolutely see the logic.

Of course, that only makes the fact that aether would stay just for the reader all the sweeter. Man would give up his old way of life for love.

YES OH MY GOD i want to point out the "the only reason aether met reader was because he got stuck in teyvat" !!! that was what started that little fic. im not sure but i think this is the first time the twins got trapped in a world and to me that gave aether the perspective of exploring a world without the intention of leaving right away. and that kinda opened up his view on having feelings for someone in that world (ahem mc) with the intention of staying this time!!! im surprised u caught that one and pointed it out

and tysm <333 i love writing aether like this bc to me its so very much canon. we see glimpses of his personality through ingame dialogue and his voicelines w paimon -- and i take advantage of those all the time. to me he has such an AMAZING personality in a way that seems like he's so done all the time. and do u guys know the amount of flirting aether/lumine do to npcs?? ... bro. i cant find the one im thinking of atm but every time they do it i crack up so hard

there are so many things i want to point out but AHHHHGGG tumblr ask box controls my ramblings. before I start though, I knew it wasn't gonna be true but RIP my house of hearth!Rosalie crack theory. you will be loved but missed.

WE GOT ROSALIE POV!! we love to see it, its so fun to see her perspective, and I love how her first reaction to hearing that T!Reader used to be a fatuus isn't betrayal but sadness. Sadness that she seemed to not be trustworthy enough to be told! And not even in a 'woe is me' kind of way! but like in an 'I wish I had done better so that you could have trusted me'. i'm just key smashing here like "jaldsfah IT WAS OUT OF PROTECTION ROSALIE" but I'm so glad she loves T!Reader with all her heart like that.

Not to mention the flashbacks to when T!Reader first meets Rosalie! AAAAA Rosalie is just so sweet and caring with this anxious child!solider jsdlkahfahjdf. we love maman in this house.

Switching away from Rosalie for a moment, Lyney and Lynette's meeting with Arlecchino- just how upset the twins are with the Knaves decision but are unable to fight back against father! I'm staring at Lyney with that obvious frustration because he so desperately wants to have T!Reader be a part of his life now that he found her again (and to be a part of hers) but not only does he have to play the role of the good 'son' but he also has the extra scrutiny from 'Father' because of his role of successor. His loyalty to the house and his family is deep but now that's conflicting with his love and loyalty to T!Reader. I doubt he and Lynette know about the current hostage situation-

(considering he seems to be talking with Arlecchino from the perspective of 'T!Reader is working under Childe' while she is working from the perspective of 'T!Reader isn't fatui at all'. I see that very specific language used in that entire conversation! 'Left The House' instead of 'Left the Fatui' ? I SEE IT)

-but I wonder how long it's going to take before the twins are involved, if at all. Arlecchino definitely seems to have many plans in mind if she investigated Rosalie beforehand (i remember how back in chapter seven when there was the hooded figure, I think I remember a lot of us pointing and being like 'FATHER'!?!? don't quote me on that please-) and is telling the twins to stay away from T!Reader while kidnapping Rosalie for a 'polite chat'. Potentially about shared custody? jsdklakf probably not but there must be some reason why Arlecchino wants to talk instead of just getting rid of her. As jokey as the shared custody comment is, I can see it as an option if she wants to continue having T!Reader as a potential piece to be used in her manipulations. Maybe not as a typical House of Hearth soldier considering how she told her own successor to stay away from her, but I can see her forcing T!Reader to act as an informant of sorts. Or maybe she wants to 'convince' Rosalie to give T!Reader back over to her care so she can wrap up that loose thread via… other means. I mean, she could do that second idea by force but I doubt she wants to put in the effort over covering up a murder or two so the fauti's reputation isn't marked by it when she could have two perfectly good pawns to take advantage of.

There's also Aether and Reader interaction! Granted we haven't been blessed with his POV but I like to think he's connecting a lot more to this situation. Makes me wonder if he feels any sort of guilt or regret at all, inadvertently causing a separation like his own with Lumine via T!Reader and Rosalie, a separation between a very close family (or almost family but shhh). Seeing his first reaction to his sister being taken in T!Reader's frantic, guilty and lost actions. After all, if he hadn't blackmailed her, she wouldn't have been found by Lyney and Lynette. In turn, that would have probably meant that Arlecchino would have left her alone in the flower shop for longer. And Rosalie wouldn't be dragged into this mess because the runaway fatuus wouldn't have been distracting the future 'father'-

(my current theory as to why she left T!Reader alone for so long! She always knew where she was, but didn't interfere because what use would be a disobedient child? T!Reader could have been a risk if brought back, she could have potentially held resentment towards Father and 'her successor', and could have lashed out far more than just some frostbite on the arm. After all, betrayal will not be permitted in the house of the hearth. Sure, she could have brought her back and 'gaslight gatekeep girlboss' T!Reader into being the loyal child again, but why waste the effort when the problem took themselves out of the picture already? T!Reader already functioned under fear and 'father's wrath' and wouldn't do anything to get in the way. However, now she's interacting with Lyney again. If it was one of her other children, it may not have been a big deal, but; as recently shown in akagi's ( <3 ) art; Lyney was the child with such a strong attachment to T!Reader that he FACEPLANTED because she addressed him by his name. She may of become Freminet, Lyney, and Lynette's secret since the house pretended she didn't exist, but even if Arlecchino didn't mention her anymore she never forgot how badly Lyney crushed on T!Reader. Although the runaway is still influenced by fear of what 'Father' could do, her fear of Rosalie finding out is currently overpowering that original fear now that she has gained a sense of security from being left alone for so long. She may not be stopping their plans but since Lyney has still pined after her for all these years, she's still a distraction. So now Arlecchino has to interfere to get the 'loyal child' back on track.)

-from the work to stop the prophecy that's still very much going on. Granted, this is thinking in a whole case of 'what-ifs', as it's fully possible that the Knave would have still interfered with Rosalie and T!Reader's life at some point if it somehow became useful in any sort of way. Its just… very interesting to think about, specially since the two have a sort of sort of not friendship going on. (Also, Rosalie??? Asking if T!Reader has a crush on Aether??? sjlafaksjf…. I don't know what to focus on more about that. The fact she brought him up as a potential love interest in the first place; which is understandable, considering her perspective but still; or the fact that when told no, she was kinda like 'you're too good for him anyway'. I mean- 'he doesn't seem like the type to settle' as in settling down for romance? jhflajkdh)

To finally wrap this mess up, FATHER FLIRTING WITH MAMAN??? (the fact that Arlecchino's appearance to Rosalie involves the former presenting a flower is just..lahsfjh jokes aside, it's a very nice contrast to Lyney previously presenting the marcotte to T!Reader. 10/10 father pls don't kill or hurt maman.)

HI DEADMAN AETHER ANON im so glad u didnt apologize in this ask about the length cus i was pacing around my room like a blushing schoolgirl reading this.fjshfj

YEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH once the series end i rlly cant wait to talk about rosalie and my thoughts about everyone's theories of her role in the story. (little rant pls forgive me) its funny because i know that other media gave people trauma about who to trust, but i honestly wanted to mirror what the readers would feel about rosalie in how i worded the story when it came to interactions w her! i deliberately made her actions and thoughts sweet and kind to see if people would be suspicious, even when i didnt give them reason to be wary (aside from, you know, being very nice). the readers knew MC's situation and was cautious of anyone being overly nice, so i wondered what their reaction would be to someone like rosalie. THAWED!MC represented the few readers who decided to trust someone like that for once, and to me thats just very interesting (most of u guys immediately thought she was a traitor LMAOO). imagine thawed!mc who had the same mindset as most of the readers! she wouldve left the shop the next day.

YEAH its crazy to see most ppl immediately thinking of the knave. i wanted to touch in the scenes we saw of arlecchino and how she went to kinda watch furina (bc she was also wearing a hood there!). i got nervous when ppl thought of other characters too i thought it was like laughably obvious HEFUSHF

HAHA i like how u rlly note each detail i respect that. im almost afraid that you know the story better than i do LMFAOGJFHJ. i also love how u also looked into aether's side!!! right now all u can see is that he is definitely worried he lost the idgaf war he's just as frantic as MC.

your theory is so HEHEHHE delicous. i wish i can just outright agree or disagree but thats gonna take away the fun ughhh. but what i COULD comment on is how ure definitely right that the knave knew about lyneys silly crush on MC, and i think its hilarious. 'oh dear. poor child. of all the children, he really fell for the most romantically-challenged one' - arlecchino, probably.

the aether question was so painfully self indulgent. if i was mc i wouldve gone YES I DO WANT AETHER and thawed wouldve ended on chapter eight.

but yes hehe rosalie has high standards to whoever wants mc's heart. aether is a nice guy in rosalie's eyes, but not a nice enough boyfriend for her baby. !! lets see how she reacts to mr lyney

Finally have a chance to throw my thoughts together! And boy do I have them!!

Just ahshshs- lyney you’re so smart and cunning but also pretty dense my guy. I’m so glad you have moral standards but the fact your first thought when thawed!reader wants to kiss you is that ‘oh she is just drunk, :(‘ as opposed to ‘Ah! I may actually have a slight chance’ says something. I know you’re basing your thoughts on imperfect information and past experiences but please- I’m begging you- I know you have a big brain please use it-

But honestly, my heart goes out to him. In his half of the pov his pinning is so clear to see. I’m willing to bet money that Lyney would just happily accept the fact that he can interact with t!reader on some sort of positive level again, no matter if he is just a friend forever because she’s back! She’s real again, not just rose-tinted memories and this silent secret between the twins and Freminet. He is going through these extra and at times inconvenient steps just to keep her safe, even going against his own desires (letting Childe keep an eye on her while he goes to father) and even against his own loyalties to an extent ( i mean, the sensible loyal fauti thing to do would be to immediately report that the previously awol/MIA solider was found, wouldn’t it? )

ALSO THE ‘MON LAPIN’ NICKNAME!?! So many thoughts AND feelings on that!! *insert the cork board meme*

It fits so well!! I looked up some rabbit information just to see and rabbits are so skittish! I checked it out and so many things can set them off- bad experiences, new lotion smell, smelling like a different animal like a cat!! Like they not recommended to be children pets cause you gotta be gentle. But they’re so active! Not to mention herbivores!! Lyney may not know the truth but I’m sure he knows where his gift was delivered too! Thawed reader is a rabbit confirmed.

Looking outside of lyney and t!reader’s interactions though, it’s always so interesting to see t!reader’s other interactions. The obvious joy she has when she realizes Lynette showed up, and Lynette’s instant care in asking if t!reader has anywhere safe to go to. The tense somewhat friendship forming between aether and her, where a slight misstep could mean destruction of her life but there’s enough going on for minor banter and to try and help recover from a hangover (the water, and my current guess is that is the reason why her drink is different at the end) and now the beginnings of co-conspirators between Childe and her; the former laughing and seems to be almost excited while the latter is even more tense and nervous because it’s about to get a whole lot more complicated

ALSO CHILDE! SMART MAN, SO GLAD YOU’RE IN THE KNOW! Welcome to the peanut gallery of lyney and t!reader’s relationship! Hope you enjoy the show! But now that childe is officially an active player in the story, it’s making me think about the current time line and how different it’s gonna go from the canon game. As of right now, the only confirmed event from the Fontaine archon/various other quests is Lyney and Lynette’s trial since Childe has yet to be accused of anything (so we can assume that the missing people case is still ongoing) and aether is specifically doing this to see if he can trust the twins (something you can argue about him realizing via/during Lyney’s story quest). Especially know with the knaves early arrival to push things along

I should stop myself at this point so imma just leave off with the fact Lyney is starting to feel something as wrong when faced with Childe at the party AND the fact that t!reader remembering a fair bit of what happened, but the key point being that’s it’s very blurry has me kicking and freaking out. It’s gonna get much more messy real soon.

i didnt really think too much about the bunny nickname even i was so shocked by that info!! i just heard from my friend that its one of the common french nicknames—and i thought it fit because of lyneys whole magician thing,,, like magicians and rabbits…. BUT THATS SO COOL!!!! makes the nickname so deeper than whatbi initially thought 🙏🙏

AND YEAAHHH its definitely overwhelming for our mc to be exposed so suddenly to so many people who seem to be willing to be friends w her! its been rosalie and its only been Father before 😢

the canon game event is gonna be veeeerrryyy detached from the game bc im going to be ignoring it for the sake of not copying it and just inserting MC in. if i did that, THAWED woukd just be a longer version of my other fic, Sleight of Hand HAHAHA. either way, since im writing this before arlecchino’s official release, i think i might end up mischaracterizing her…..so im a bit nervous about that. i think in THAWED shes definitely going to be a bit more evil than what she might be in-game

I need you to know that I squawked at the cliffhanger of childe’s appearance. Lost my mind and almost threw my phone. Fingers crossed that Aether got to him before the banquet!

But to the chapter as a whole! There are?? So many things I wanna talk about? I’ll try to keep it somewhat short so I can fit it all into one ask but sienussnei-

I’m like 50 percent sure those strings pulled had something to do with the fauti. Something I remembered!! Not every person from the house of the hearth becomes one of the fauti! But they still do remain close to the group! My crack theory is that Rosalie is one of people in that latter group. Arlecchino was able to fully attempt an assassination on Furina without anyone knowing before or after( including the orphans in this as well since they don’t say thing about it as far as i know? And im absolutely positive they wouldn’t push for more info and take her at her word that she didn’t have the gnosis) and the only reason why it was a attempt and not a success is because she stopped herself! Either way though, considering her disguise used for that same attempt, I sure that the hooded figure was Father herself.

ALSO THE PINING OF THIS MAN!!! That polearm?? The sudden flip from fake to real the moment he saw Rosseland (I’m assuming that was the kitty in question) had led Thawed!Reader to him? The instant flirtations? Not to mention that despite the fact Thawed!Reader kept talking about kissing him, he refused!! Because he knew they were both drunk and not quite in their right minds to do that!!! THE MAN CARES!! It’s also a blessing and a curse rn that Thawed!Reader is kinda drunk. A blessing because she isn’t hiding her feelings as much, but a curse because she isn’t being subtle at all. The straight forward question she asked? Lyney isn’t drunk enough to forget that.

The callback to the last chapter too! She really does know lyney so well, even after all this time. He was right, she did know he was lying. And she’s just sitting there, trying to figure out what’s going on while Aether’s just sitting there like ‘you two nerds love each other.’ Not that she would admit it out loud. Yet. Also RIP reader, paimon and Rosalie are friends now, friendship forged by food. They aren’t gonna leave readers life once this is over and done. Say goodbye to your peace and quiet! (Although lyney may complain about that but that’s a different story-)

Losing my mind also over Rosalie and Thawed!Reader’s connection. She doesn’t even realize she is calling Rosalie maman!! But Rosalie does and it’s just so soft and sweet and family and rurnfjkeis. I’ve known Rosalie for 7 chapters and if anything happens to her I will kill everyone in this room and then myself.

Great chapter as always! I’m a little sad to hear regular updates are potentially stopping for a bit but I fully understand! Best of luck with school!!

YEAHH!! IT WAS ROSSELAND !!! i love rosseland and how lyney ended up making the cat his assistant-- that little backstory is so cute. rosseland is such a smart cat, too; writing that scene of leading mc to lyney didnt seem absurd in the slightest to me.

drunk t!reader is a mess kwdhkdfhd some drunk words are sober thoughts. and yes i think and know that lyney is a gentleman. even drunk he would always put reader first. always!

aether is so silly he came in there to blackmail someone and ended up playing secondhand matchmaker, if that makes sense LMFAOO i actually love aether and readers dynamic its so absurd when you look at it from a different perspective. its such a strange friendship they ended up making

yes ure right!!!!!1 im not sure if im portraying it well but reader calling rosalie maman is so ? subconsciously done. its like looking at a cat and going "here kitty". u look at rosalie and the way she treats reader and u go "thanks maman".

back by unpopular demand, it's me(that deadman aether anon, that's just my name now i guess)! here to poke the newest chapter a few times until it gives me answers

imma just hit this right off the bat since the chapter just came out- a little crazy? A LITTLE?? man's taking after his 'father' more than he realizes, no wonder he is next in line to be 'king'.

seriously tho, the mental/emotional range lyney has this chapter is wild to me. he's so happy and giddy but even though that doesn't necessarily go away he flips a switch to serious mode when lynette questions him.

he's just?? constantly planning? like here he is, acting almost lovesick over thawed!reader but he keeps hyperfocused on any information she drops to store for later use. worrying over her using her old weapon from her time at the house? already planning on how to get her the perfect weapon as a gift and asks her about childe's methods. 'idle' conversation? instantly mentally notes what topics she is avoiding. she questions him about what the house is doing? i'd bet real money he noted that as well, not to mention wording his answer so that he didn't fully lie to her(after earlier mentioning that she would know if he was lying to her face??? lsafdkjfsa).

Like! Literally, his first words after their little spar date were “She’s hiding something”. sjklsflaljf, like yeah??! She is!!! About a lot of things my guy! Just wait until you get the full picture and not just the flawed info you got right now.

SPEAKING OF WHEN THAT LAST SCENE THO-

Behind Lyney, the moonlight scatters all over. It is a little hard to tell what face he’s making. “I’m doing this exactly because I’m trying not to drive her away.”

This. This snatched my focus. Lyney (and by extension the rest of the fauti trio) are playing chess while Aether and Thawed!Reader are playing checkers!

this is getting long so i'll cut myself off because i know I'm gonna barge in with more random thoughts later- just please know I'm absolutely gonna be re-reading this for the next couple days.

WHAT THE FUCK!!!! how did u get it so quickly ??? i was literally just talking about it w my friend earlier where i was saying that i wanted lyney to play into the role he said he never wanted 😨‼️ its incredible u got it right off the bat! i thought itd take a few chapters before it sinks in to the readers (including the actual reader)

lyney doesnt bother hiding his expressions w lynette bc she could tell if he plasters on a fake smile anyway—and thats probably way more disturbing for her 😕

Sorry to bust down the door again so soon but I have returned! With more thoughts (trademarked)

(Also?? The fact I’m apparently being name dropped in reblogs?? WILD)

Akagi’s art made me go back and reread that specific scene where T!Reader keeps talking about kissing Lyney. (Beautiful art btw <3 I would ask out T!Reader on a date. She has two hands-). And although I didn’t realize it before, it felt like an interesting reversal of the normal interactions with them? Not to mention a couple of Lyney’s responses have me wanting to shake this man and demand his secrets. The magic man can’t hide them forever.

“It would’ve been easier if we hated each other, huh?” He traces his thumb over your lip, looking forlorn. “I wouldn’t have hesitated to protect my status as a Fatuus the moment you came back out of thin air.”

MAGIC MAN I DEMAND YOUR HIDDEN MEANINGS!!! Do you mean as seeing her as a threat? Physically?? Status wise?? Could it be the fact that even if you both hated each other she might still be able to read you like a book? Is it the fact she could have been a threat to Father’s favor of you as heir even if you don’t want it because last you knew, she did?? I know hating each other would have made it easier to dispose of someone who was once family but I can’t land on one solid reasoning behind this sentence. My brain ain’t big enough for this chief.

Lyney slumps against the wall, defeated. “Don’t just say that, Y/N. You can’t go around saying that.”

My heart goes out to this man. I know you talked previously in a different ask about the who knows about who’s feelings, but I don’t think you mentioned lyney’s perspective! Just that it was ours to interpret. So this line made me wonder- does he genuinely think reader doesn’t love him? That he needs to pull every trick in the book and plan 12 steps ahead just to slowly connect with her and have a chance? Because this definitely gave me that feeling. My take after my reread of the scene was that he felt like she was just being impulsive because of the alcohol with no real meaning behind it. He wants it to be real so bad, wants it to have those words be genuine but doesn’t think so. That he wants her to stop saying that because he knows(falsely but shh) that it isn’t true. And also because like Akagi said Furina really do be testing him but again shhhhhh.

Watch me stand at a cork board with red string trying to figure everything out.

(Also- I realized in my attempt to keep my last ask short I left out parts of my explanation of why I thought of the crack theory. Whoops. Maybe I’ll expand on that a different day.)
