Frankie Fitzgerald was the youngest of six, in a big Irish family growing up in New York City. She wasn’t ignored but certainly had to find her own “thing” as all her older siblings figured out what they liked and laid claim to various hobbies that they insisted she couldn’t be part of.

Acting struck her fancy but she realized that she hated being in front of people if she could help it because she was painfully clumsy, always tripping over something. She soon realized that being behind the camera was much more interesting than being in front of it and picked up photography, eventually transitioning into making videos.

Of her siblings, she was only especially close to her brother, Timothy, who was a year older than her and into fine arts. Their interests overlapped enough that they bonded and ended up going to NYU Tisch a year apart. He was definitely better at making friends and she often tagged along with him to parties, though she never got involved in drugs like he did.

She regrets that she wasn’t more vocal about his drug use but she didn’t want him to push her away, like a little sister –– like a nuisance. Her junior year and Tim’s senior year, he overdosed at a party and died in the ER. Frankie was devastated, as was her family. Though they didn’t say it, she could tell they blamed her a bit too, for not speaking up or preventing Tim from using since she was closest to him.

Finishing up at Tisch was rough, it took her an extra semester to graduate and when she did, she didn’t feel like living up to the dreams she and Tim had had of working together on creative projects. She also didn’t feel like being in the city anymore, not without him, and looked around for jobs she could do even if they weren’t the dream jobs she’d once aspired to. She stumbled across one for the Grimm Chronicles in a town she’d never heard of. With nothing to lose, she applied and was offered a position as a videographer/photographer for their print and digital platforms. She’s been working there for three years and has grown to enjoy the job despite it being different from what she’d thought she’d do.

CONNECTIONS ▶

GUS ASHTON: She’s worked with Gus for several years now and he never fails to treat her like she’s his personal assistant, bossing her around. Frankie usually ends up going on assignment with him, filming and taking photos of whatever story he’s covering. She doesn’t hate working with Gus but thinks he could be nicer after all this time. If he tells her to get him a soy latte one more time, she can’t be held responsible for her actions.

EDITH KENNEDY: Frankie met Edith while shooting a story about the hospital. They’re not best friends but catch up every few weeks. Edith has actually begun to encourage Frankie to explore her roots in the arts again, instead of just strict news. She’s even become something of a muse for Frankie and they do portrait sessions sometimes.

PAUL TRUJILLO: She didn’t know who he was when she saw him around town one day but he had an interesting face and she had her camera so she attempted to get a few shots. He noticed and was not pleased about it. She tried to make up an excuse on the spot about how it was a free country or something and he promptly responded by grabbing the camera. He took the memory card and snapped it in half before she could do anything. Outraged but too nervous to actually do anything, she now shoots daggers at him whenever she sees him and hides her camera in his sight.

FAWN GOLDWIN: Frankie admires her work and follows her social media accounts. She’s only recently worked up the courage to tell her what a fan she is of all the graphic design work she’s done. She thinks that Timothy would’ve really liked Fawn and probably been good friends with her, which makes Frankie want to try as well.

DANIELLE MASON: One of the nicest people she’s met since moving to Grimmbrook. It started off with Frankie getting lost on her way to the Chronicles’ office and Danielle pointed her in the right direction. Since, the past three years have been a steady stream of movie nights and baking marathons and back and forth meme exchanges via text. She knows Edith is always swamped with work and real problems she’s seen in the ER, so Frankie never feels she can fully vent to her without being selfish. So it’s nice to have a friend who she can complain to about Gus and life in general
