Au where Annika Hansen wasn’t found by the borg and spends her whole life searching for them.
Something something following in doomed footsteps, something something obsession - digging your fingers into a wound so it can never close because you want to study it, you want it to mean something.  I think there’s this idea that Seven of Nine - had she not been taken by the borg, would have grown up to be a completely normal adult and I’m here to say “What if that wasn’t true literally at all?”  First of all I think growing up alone in space with only your parents around, looking for a ruthlessly mind-hungry alien hivemind is not conducive to being a very “normal” person. I think she’d just be weird in a different way. And if she and her parents had lived she’d be weird and in another, different way.  In this au she’s a scientist and just follows in the exact same footsteps as her parents. She sees absolutely no wrong in what they did (taking their child on a super dangerous mission) and will be very upset if you try to speak ill of them.  She has a small ship and works alone in silence. She has a very hard time speaking to people since the only thing she cares about is the borg and her cat - she has no social skills and unlike Seven she’s bitter and paranoid. She’s been chasing the borg for as long as she can remember and thus finds comfort in it. Is not afraid of dying if it’s to the borg. Feels like such a death would be a culmination of her entire life’s work - like an artist painting with her own blood.  She found her cat in a ship that was taken by the borg (meaning its crew was taken, the ship was abandoned) and decided to keep him. She calls him “Doc” because she found him hiding in the small sickbay.
