Aryan Khan To Ibrahim Ali Khan, Star Kids Who Resemble Their Fathers

He looks a lot like his father and some memes on the internet are a testament to the fact. The Hindi film industry saw some of the biggest stars in the 1990s. Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Jackie Shroff, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and more all…

Lorelei Knox - Lorelei isn’t new and neither is her picture but I did learn a few things about some of her music. Her first album is primarily made up of songs explaining or covering the time she ran off at 18 with her boyfriend and wound up running to Vegas and got married. The man she ran off with was about her age and they were only married for two years before she divorced him when he made his intent to use her talent to get himself ahead. When she was playing on her own, she was living in a hotel and found herself writing several letters to her parents which she never ended up sending, she didn’t want them to know how badly she had screwed up, though she did know that she could have gone home at any time. She was still a bit of a wildflower though and wound up getting married a second time, this man is her son’s father and was worse than the first one. She wound up working in a themed diner off the strip and one night, after getting home to find her three-year-old son left alone while his daddy left to get drunk, Lorelei packed Levi up and left without so much as a note. She was 21 at that point and they made it as far as Texas before her husband’s car was seen and reported back to him. He found them in a motel and beat Lorelei until she could barely stand, leaving her for dead there on the floor. (She had hidden Levi in the bathroom and told him to lock the door until Mommy told him it was okay to come out. The man tried to kick in the bathroom door but gave up after a while and left) When she came around, Lorelei called her father, who brought his brother Daryl and her cousin Matthew to come out to Texas and bring her home. (They apparently drove there from Alabama, just so Jericho could bring his rifle).
When Ford returns home with a record deal and performs a concert in Birmingham, he gets the “family band” back up on stage with him and offers Lorelei to play a few of her songs to see if she can have her dream as well.
In regards to some of her songs:
Cowboy Casanova is actually about her cousin Matt, he’s a snake with blue eyes and knows how to get a woman wrapped around his finger. While she knows he’s a good man, she is (was) friends with the woman who’s now the mother of his child and wanted him to see what he does to people.
The video for Stand Up features people who have suffered abuse and/or members of the LGBT community holding up signs about their struggles, ending with a young man who’s supposed to resemble her little brother with the southern flag taped over his mouth, symbolizing how he and so many others are silenced by their families and how things need to change.
((The music on my characters’ albums, Lorelei uses music by Miranda Lambert, Sugarland, Reba McIntyre, and Carrie Underwood))
Tobias Spencer - Tobias honestly needed a new picture when I found out the person I originally used for him is a Trump supporter and I can’t support him any longer if he thinks that dumbass is in any way okay. I played around with pictures for a while before finally coming up with this one and I think it fits. Tobias is the older brother of Ice Spencer in New York, when he finds out his sister is facing backlash from having a child molester working at her Dojo (she didn’t know and Ethan Reigns was never alone with any of the students anyhow) he comes back from India to help her rebuild and starts to work alongside her to bring new people into the Black Dragon Dojo. Tobias moves around a lot and works as a stunt coordinator in a lot of big-name films as well as owning his own dojo Fighting Phoenix in California. He has an on-again/off-again relationship with one of the top Bollywood actresses, though because of his problems with commitment they’re currently off.

Bollywood Celebrities Who Look Exactly Like Their Parents

Bollywood Celebrities Who Look Exactly Like Their Parents
Chaitra Krishnan May 31, 2019
Very often we hear about or come across look-alikes of celebrities who are living a totally different life, somewhere in another part of the world, miles away. You may have spotted many doppelgangers of Bollywood celebrities, haven’t you? But some of these celebrities have their carbon copies at their home as well, we’re talking about their children, of course! Yes, it’s pretty normal that children look like their parents but sometimes the resemblance is freakishly uncanny. Well, thanks to all the good looking parents of Bollywood (and nepotism of course) for the unstoppable source of handsomeness on the big screen.
These B-town celebrities are perfect look-alikes of their parents. If you make slight alterations in their clothing and photographic style, it might become nearly impossible to distinguish between the celebrity parents and kids. Don’t believe us? If you go through the following list, you may want to think things over.
Shahrukh Khan and AbRam Khan
iamsrk / Instagram
We all know that King Khan’s eldest son Aryan looks a lot like him. But we ruled that out completely once AbRam was born because AbRam is just like a little miniature figure of SRK. Aryan still looks a bit like his mom Gauri but AbRam is a 100% copy of SRK!
Amrita Singh and Sara Ali Khan
saraalikhan.fan.club / Instagram
Sara Ali Khan, the latest enchantress of Bollywood who has become a sensation after doing just two films, looks a lot like her mom Amrita Singh. Amrita, who was one of the most beautiful actresses of the yesteryear, has gifted her daughter all of her best features including her bubbly nature and her mesmerizing smile.
Rakesh Roshan and Hrithik Roshan
hrithikroshan / Instagram
Remember the marble-eyed handsome? Wait, who are we talking about here? Well, it applies to both Rakesh Roshan and his son Hrithik. These two handsome hunks have left their lady fans bedazzled during their rule. The sharp nose, the shiny eyes, and that super hot smile are capable of dropping jaws.
Saif Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan
saraaliikkhan / Instagram
Chote Nawab, Saif Ali Khan and his elder son, Ibrahim, share very strong resemblance with each other. Sara looks nothing like her dad and Ibrahim didn’t acquire much of Amrita’s looks. If Ibrahim ever makes his debut in Bollywood, it would be just like watching one of Saif’s 90s movies.
Sharmila Tagore and Soha Ali Khan
sakpataudi / Instagram
While both Saif and Soha Ali Khan resemble their mother Sharmila Tagore, Soha looks like her mirror image. Sharmila Tagore has given the Hindi cinema industry multiple blockbusters and her beauty was hailed for years. The naughty smile, the glittery eyes, and the beautiful brows are their star features.
Dimple Kapadia And Twinkle Khanna
twinklerkhanna / Instagram
Even a child can make out that this mom-daughter duo looks more like carbon copies of each other. Dimple and Twinkle were both beautiful actresses of their era. Thanks to their perfect hairline, beautiful smile, big bright eyes, and perfectly oval face.
Soni Razdan And Alia Bhatt
sonirazdan / Instagram
Bollywood’s bubbly baby, Alia looks a lot like her mother Soni Razdan when she was young. Soni is a British actress and director, and has another daughter, Shaheen Bhatt. Alia never forgets to cherish the moments with her mommy dearest on social media and we can’t help but wonder how similar they look like.
Neetu Singh And Ranbir Kapoor
neetu54 / Instagram
Interestingly, Ranbir Kapoor got his good looks from his mother Neetu Singh. He dated the contemporary divas of Bollywood like Deepika and Katrina when they were at the peak of their career. And now, he’s dating Alia Bhatt who has been doing extremely well with her career (Ah, the power of handsomeness).
Babita And Karishma Kapoor
therealkareenakapoor / Instagram
Karishma Kapoor, the one actress who actually looks like a doll draws her beauty from her mother Babita. Babita was quite a stunning actress of her time, and Karishma did nail her looks during the 90s without a doubt. The mother-daughter duo is among the most beautiful ones that Bollywood ever had.
Sunil Dutt And Sanjay Dutt
duttsanjay / Instagram
Sanju baba is a replica of his father Sunil Dutt. The similarities aren’t just limited to facial features but their body language and personality also resembles a great deal. Sanju shared a very close bond with his father and has always praised him for being an amazing dad.
Javed Akhtar And Farhan Akhtar
faroutakhtar / Instagram
Lyricist Javed Akhtar and his son Farhan Akhtar share a lot of common features. It’s not just that Farhan looks like a mirror image of his dad but he also possesses a lot of his other qualities. Farhan is a multi-talented actor/director/singer who has proved his abilities right from the beginning of his career.
These Bollywood celebrities do look a lot like their parents but they sure are different in their own wonderful ways. Who do you think have the most shocking resemblance with their parent? Let us know in the comments section below.

Divya Bharti Biography
Divya Bharti was an Indian film actress born on February 25, 1974, who starred in a number of commercially successful Hindi and Telugu language films in the early 1990s. Through her successful film career, she had established herself as one of the most popular and beautiful film actresses of the nation.
Divya aspired a career in films at an early age, and started to get film offers at 14 years of age. After several unsuccessful attempts, she made her debut with a lead role in the successful Telugu drama Bobbili Raja (1990), aged 16. After appearing in a number of high-grossing Telugu films, she progressed to Bollywood films in 1992 with the action thriller Vishwatma. Divya further went on to have commercial success alongside actors such as Govinda and Rishi Kapoor in films like Shola Aur Shabnam and Deewana, respectively; the latter of which garnered her a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She acted in over 14 Hindi films between 1992 and 1993, which is to date an unbroken record in Hindi cinema.
Divya was born in Mumbai, India, to Om Prakash Bharti, an insurance officer, and his wife, Meeta Bharti. She had a younger brother named Kunal and one half-sister Poonam who was the child of Bharti's father first marriage.[8] She spoke Hindi, English, and Marathi fluently. In her early years, Bharti was known for her bubbly personality and for her doll-like looks. Actress Kainaat Arora is her second cousin.
Divya studied at Maneckji Cooper High School in Juhu, Mumbai. She was an average student and completed 9th standard before pursuing an acting career.
In 1988, Divya was discovered by filmmaker Nandu Tolani. Upon seeing her, Tolani insisted on signing her for one of his films. At that time, Bharti was in the ninth grade. She was originally scheduled to make her screen debut in Gunahon Ka Devta in 1988, but her role was cancelled. Kirti Kumar noticed Bharti at a video library and thus was eager to sign her for his project Radha Ka Sangam opposite Govinda, as he was searching for a new face. Weeks later, Kumar met with Dilip Shankar and managed to release Bharti from her contract. After taking dancing and acting lessons for months to prepare for her role, Divya was eventually dropped and replaced by Juhi Chawla. Though the reasons remain unclear, it was speculated that Kumar's possessiveness over Divya and her childish nature was the cause of her replacement.
Divya's career was stalled until D. Ramanaidu, Telugu film producer, offered her Bobbili Raja opposite his son Daggubati Venkatesh. Without hoping for success after experiencing a lot of failures in Bollywood, she commenced shooting for her screen debut in Andhra Pradesh. The film was released in the summer of 1990 and became a colossal hit. Bobbili Raja remains to this day one of the most popular Telugu movies.
Divya acted in only one Tamil film, Nila Penne opposite Anand. The film was critically and financially unsuccessful.
With more hits in the Telugu cinema, Divya established herself as one of the most popular actresses in Telugu. In box-office ratings, she figured next to Vijayshanti. In 1991, Bharti had back-to-back hits, including Rowdy Alludu and Assembly Rowdy opposite actors Chiranjeevi and Mohan Babu.
Later that year, Bharti began filming A. Kodandarami Reddy's action romance Dharma Kshetram under Sri Rajeev Productions. Divya got to work for Telugu film actor Nandamuri Balakrishna.
While Divya celebrated her success in Andhra Pradesh, Bollywood's top directors were eager to sign the Telugu superstar for their upcoming films. Bharti's first Bollywood film was Vishwatma opposite Sunny Deol, directed by Rajiv Rai, and released 2 January 1992. The film was an average grosser at the box office and gained Divya wider recognition from the public as well as film critics. Notably, the music of the film was very successful, especially the song "Saat Samundar" which became a favorite and put Bharti in the limelight of Bollywood.
A week later, Divya's next film, Lawrence D'Souza's romantic drama Dil Ka Kya Kasoor, alongside Prithvi released. Though the film failed at the box office, it brought her name in the Filmfare magazine's "Top Ten Best Actress Performances" of 1992. The movie was also recognized for its outstanding music. But after the failure of the film at the box office, she was quoted as saying, "I wanted to prove myself. But I've fallen flat on my face. Now, I have to begin my climb all over again. Yet, I'm positive that one day, success will be mine." (Stardust, March 1992).
In March 1992, David Dhawan's Shola Aur Shabnam was released. It was popular with critics and was a box office hit in India, reviving Divya's career once again. She received a Lux Face of the Year title. It also gave a big boost to Govinda's career and launched David Dhawan as an established director. Shortly after, she achieved further success in Raj Kanwar's Filmfare-award winning love story Deewana starred veteran actor Rishi Kapoor and newcomer Shahrukh Khan, which is regarded as one of the biggest blockbuster hits of 1992. Her performance in Deewana was highly appreciated. Critics reported that Divya belonged to a new breed of Hindi film actors who broke away from character stereotypes. Divya and Shahrukh Khan won the Filmfare Award for Lux New Face of the Year and Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut respectively. By July 1992, Bharti's work in Deewana was said to have earned her more recognition.
She had several other releases that year, among them Jaan Se Pyaara which featured Divya alongside Govinda once again, Geet opposite Avinash Wadhawan, Dushman Zamana alongside Armaan Kohli and Balwaan which marked the debut of Sunil Shetty. The latter being a low budget film, achieved moderate success. In October, Hema Malini's Dil Aashna Hai, again opposite Shahrukh Khan was released which didnt do as well at the box office. Divya's performance as a bar dancer who sets out to find her birth mother was however appreciated.
Divya decided to act in one Telugu movie per year in order to not disappoint her Telugu audience. Thus, Chittamma Mogudu was released at the end of 1992, starring once again the popular couple of Bharti and Mohan Babu.
The ensemble film Kshatriya in which she co-starred alongside Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon was the last film to be released during Divya's lifetime. She died only a week after its release.
Divya met Sajid Nadiadwala through Govinda at the shooting of Shola Aur Shabnam. Soon both Bharti and Nadiadwala fell in love with each other. She married Nadiadwala on 10 May 1992. She converted to Islam after her marriage and changed her name to Sana Nadiadwala.
On 5 April 1993, around 11 PM, Divya fell off the balcony of her fifth floor apartment at the Tulsi buildings in Versova, Mumbai. After neighbours discovered her, she was rushed in an ambulance to the emergency department at Cooper Hospital where doctors failed to revive her. The immediate cause of death was stated as the heavy internal bleeding at the back of the head which was severely damaged The reason of falling was never established and several theories circulated in the media during that time, including falling under influence of alcohol, push by someone, suicide, and involvement of her husband and underworld mafia. The cause of her falling was never officially confirmed, that whether it was a murder, suicide or accident. Her parents called her death as an accident and the Mumbai Police closed the investigations into her death in 1998, labeling it as accidental. She was cremated on 7 April 1993 at the Vile Parle crematorium, Mumbai.
Two of Divya's completed films Rang and Shatranj were released several months after her death. She had completed more than half of Laadla when she died. Later Sridevi was recast in her role. She was replaced in several other films she had signed such as Mohra, Kartavya, Vijaypath and Andolan. Her incomplete Telugu film Tholi Muddhu was partly completed by Indian actress Rambha, who slightly resembled her and hence completed a few scenes of the movie for her. Two movies which she had signed were subsequently shelved, Parinaam with Akshay Kumar and Chaal Pe Chaal with Jackie Shroff.
A film, Love Behind The Border based on the life of Divya Bharti was in the pipeline, but was never made.

Bollywood's 11 Star Sons Whom We Are Dying To Watch On Screen Aryan Khan (Shahrukh & Gauri Khan’s son) Shahrukh's eldest son, Aryan Khan is one of the most happening star kids on social media. With his father’s features, the 19-year-old has all the makings of becoming a future star in Bollywood. Though he is currently pursuing his graduation in London but looks like in all probability father Shahrukh will surely launch him in films sooner or later. Karan Deol (Sunny Deol’s son) If you have a father like Sunny Deol and grandfather like Dharmendra what more would you need as a star son. Karan Deol, Sunny Deol’s eldest son had to be launched last year but the delay of his father’s directorial ‘Ghayal Once Again’ he had to wait a while. Aahan Shetty (Suneil Shetty’s son) With elder sister Athiya already taken the plunge in acting last year with ‘Hero’, Aahan Shetty who is all of 20 had shown keen interest in cricket earlier but looks like papa Suneil wants him to follow his footsteps. Aahan is already the lead singer and guitarist for a band and with papa Suneil in search for the right script and banner we might as well very soon get an announcement for his launch film. Junaid Khan (Aamir Khan & Reena Dutta’s son) The bespectacled and geeky cool demeanor, Junaid Khan is yet to decide whether it’s acting or direction for him? Being Aamir Khan's oldest son from his first wife Reena Dutta, it was but obvious that Junaid who is in his early 20’s would take up something which he’s sure of. He has already assisted Rajkumar Hirani in ‘PK’ and a film announcement might be just round the corner. Aarav Bhatia (Akshay Kumar & Twinkle Khanna’s son) Though he’s got his mother’s looks, young Aarav who was born 2002 has got more of his father Akshay Kumar’s traits. The teenager religiously practices martial arts and is into adventure sports and is a fitness freak like his father. A sort of a mixed bag but he has all the makings of a star in Yashvardhan Ahuja (Govinda’s son) Govinda’s daughter, Tina Ahuja’s launch delayed Yashvardhan’s in Bollywood. Now with Tina’s film out all eyes are set on him. A carbon copy of his father, Yashvardhan is currently undergoing training in acting and with a star father at home his debut doesn’t look like a distant dream. Ibrahim Ali Khan (Saif Ali Khan & Amrita Singh’s son) With a striking resemblance to his father Saif Ali Khan, Ibrahim Ali Khan has already made his screen debut by playing his father, Saif’s childhood role in ‘Tashan’ in 2008. Currently studying and often taking to the social media by posting his latest pics, Ibrahim is all set to make it count when the time is ripe. Ishaan Khattar (Shahid Kapur’s half brother) Neelima Azmi and Rajesh Khattar’s Ishaan Khattar is a star in the making. The 20 something guy is an avid dancer who has been receiving guidance from his elder half-brother, Shahid Kapur. He keeps himself busy with stage performances and fitness sessions which might as well serve as baby steps towards stardom before entering Bollywood. Anmol Thakeria (Poonam Dhillon & Ashok Thakeria’s son) Actress Poonam Dhillon and producer Ashok Thakeria’s son, Anmol who was spotted recently at one of the dos is someone to watch out for. The 20-something guy has suddenly grown up and ready to take on Bollywood as he has already expressed his desire to become an actor. Once he is done with his academics, we might hear an announcement as well. Besides being a great dancer, he’s a big fan of Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor. Arhaan Khan (Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora's son) Arhaan Khan is the son of Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora who have been separated recently as a couple. Arhaan who is just about 14 has all the makings of a star kid who holds a lot of potential. With his father and uncles, Salman Khan and Sohail Khan owning production companies, it wouldn’t be tough for him to get a dream launch sooner or later. Abhimanyu Dassani (Bhagyashree & Himalaya’s son) Actress Bhagyashree who shot to fame with the Salman Khan blockbuster ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ in 1989 and later married Himalaya Dassani who also appeared in a few films, plans to launch her son Abhimanyu soon. The young aspirant who has done a course from Anupam Kher’s acting institute has also assisted director Rohan Sippy in the movie “Dum Maaro Dum”. Four boys, one girl… How can a girl choose only one?
Tumblr media
What will happen if four equally handsome guys fall for one girl? How can that girl choose just one?
GMA Network makes the year’s first quarter an exciting time for all with the launch of the light-hearted, romantic drama Meant To Be.
Beginning January 9, this series is all set to make Kapuso viewers’ believe that there is one person out there who is meant for you.
In the primetime soap, Barbie Forteza is Billie, a typical millennial with issues in life. Her parents Wilton (Keempee de Leon) and Amelia (Manilyn Reynes) are not in good terms. Her brother Bats played by Sef Cadayona is jobless. So, she works hard to make ends meet for her family. She is strong, intelligent, and independent and Billie will stop at nothing to fulfil her priorities.
Despite all these setbacks, Billie is thankful to Mariko played by Mika dela Cruz, her cousin, who has been her confidant and pillar of strength. Mariko is the daughter of Suzy (Tina Paner), the fraternal twin sister of her mother Amelia. They had a strained relationship since they were young. In spite of this, Amelia tried her best to connect with her sister. She even formed a singing trio together with Suzy and her friend Beatriz played by Sheryl Cruz.  However, Amelia had to leave the group because she got pregnant with Bats. Their group eventually disbanded.
However, Billie and Mariko are very close unlike their mothers. Billie is the cheerleader of Mariko who is soft-spoken and shy. But their relationship and friendship will be put to the test when Billie meets four guys of different nationalities who will try and compete against each other to win her heart.
Ivan Dorschner, plays the role of Ethan Spencer-Hughes. Ethan is the ideal-guy-slash-perfect-boyfriend. He is charming, romantic, and ultimately loyal. He comes back to the Philippines hoping to reconnect with his mom after his dad passed away who left him with a huge amount of inheritance.
Addy Raj breathes life to the role of Jai Patel - a man from Mumbai whose life resembles to a Bollywood film. He’s hyper, friendly, and he does not take life seriously, not even with girls.
Jak Roberto is Macoy dela Cruz, the only pure-blooded Filipino in the group. Among the boys, Macoy is the only one who comes from a middle-class family. He’s shy and just follows what he is told to do.
And lastly, Ken Chan is the Filipino-Chinese Yuan Lee, a hot-headed guy with lots of angst and frustrations in life. He’s an illegitimate son of a Chinese business man and even as a kid, he has always tried to live up to his father’s standards but he always fail. He becomes rebellious against his father and turns his attention to sports.
As destiny would have it, all four will eventually fall in love with Billie and their friendship will be jeopardized. Cultures will clash and various problems will arise in their respective families and love lives. How will the four boys compete for the love of one girl and how can that girl choose just one?
Joining Billie, Ethan, Jai, Macoy, and Yuan in this rollercoaster ride will be a roster of actors known for their acting prowess: That’s Entertainment’s Triplets, Manilyn Reynes as Amelia, Sheryl Cruz as Beatriz, and Tina Paner as Lucy; Keempee de Leon as Winston; and Sef Cadayona as Bats with the special participation of Ms. Gloria Romero as Lola Madj with Stephanie Sol as Cacai, Zymic Jaranilla as Toti, and for her first GMA Netwrok drama, Mika dela Cruz as Mariko.
Meant To Be is a product of the visionary mind of  Palanca Awardee Renei Dimla (concept creator and head writer); under the tutelage of the Creative Team headed by Roy Iglesias (Creative Director), Jake Tordesillas (Primetime Slot 3 Block Head), Agnes Gagelonia-Uligan (Primetime 3 Head), under the capable supervision of the Production team of GMA Drama headed by Ms. Lilybeth G. Rasonable (SVP For ETV), Ms. Redgie Magno (VP For Drama), Ms. Cheryl Ching-Sy (AVP for Drama), Ms. Hazel Felizmenio Abonita (Program Manager) and Ms. Lani Sandoval (Executive Producer).
Under the direction of LA Madridejos, catch Meant To Be beginning January 9 right after Alyas Robin Hood on GMA Telebabad.

8 Female Characters From Bollywood Who Were So Relatable They Made Us Go ‘Same, Sis’

8 Female Characters From Bollywood Who Were So Relatable They Made Us Go ‘Same, Sis’
Saumya Gaur May 17, 2019
More often than not, Bollywood has failed to give us substantial female role models. Perhaps, role models are too big an ask, but we haven’t even been given characters which resemble everyday women that we see around us. But the rise in content-driven movies has, in a way, introduced us to female characters who are familiar to us in their own unique ways.
We might have to put up with Sheela ki jawaani every now and then, but these relatable female characters are the real driving force behind Bollywood’s changing face. Are you excited to know which characters we are talking about? Here are those lovely, reel-life characters who had us cheering for them from the edge of our seats:
1. Safeena (Played By Alia Bhatt In Gully Boy)
aliabhattfans4eva / Instagram
Safeena is unapologetically herself. She is headstrong, ambitious, and loyal. You can’t call her a rebel without a cause. She fights for what is rightfully hers. She is constantly fighting battles whether it’s inside the house or outside of it. The slice of life depiction of this character closely mirrors the everyday struggles of millions of girls in our country who might have been given resources and education, but are still denied the right to make decisions for themselves.
2. Rani (Played by Kangana Ranaut In Queen)
theofficialb4u / Instagram
It was a delight to watch Kangana play the part of naïve Rani with such aplomb. The shy, demure Rani, who after being left at the altar decided to go on a honeymoon all by herself to nurse her broken heart. Her entire journey is such a great portrayal of self-discovery. It makes you root for her. And who can forget that mugging scene, right? It’s no coincidence that Kangana established herself as a stellar actress with this performance.
3. Sunita (Played By Ratna Pathak Shah In Kapoor & Sons)
ratna.pathak.shah.fan_account / Instagram
Ratna’s portrayal of a mother marked a stark contrast to the great mothers of Bollywood. She excellently portrayed the nuances of a flawed mother who loves her sons, but has trouble accepting their life choices. Her strained relation with her husband, and her struggle to keep the house afloat – all of it gave us a very relatable character.
4. Piku (Played by Deepika Padukone in Piku)
deepika.padukone.the.princess / Instagram
Deepika Padukone’s Piku gave us an everyday model of femininity which was much more relatable than the hyper-feminine version that’s usually doled out by Bollywood. A single woman by choice, she is unflinchingly loyal to her father, and yet she gets stumped by his eccentric behavior every now and then. It’s a relationship every grownup has with their parents. Oh, and we also loved the way her no-strings-attached relationship with her partner was depicted without any guilt and shame!
5. Bitti (Played By Kriti Sanon In Bareilly Ki Barfi)
ddnational / Instagram
Living in a small town, Bitti is shown to be content with her life. The only wish she has for her prospective life partner is to accept her the way she is. But the hiccup is that her interests and hobbies are not particularly feminine. Nonetheless, breakdancing Bitti won our hearts with her flamboyant and earnest self!
6. Ayesha (Played By Priyanka Chopra In Dil Dhadakne Do)
Ayesha’s disinterest in conforming to strict gender roles is something most women in our country identify with. Instead of giving in to the expectation of becoming a trophy wife and a homemaker par excellence, Ayesha fights to be a businesswoman. She wants to live her life the way she wants to and not just conform to society’s norms. The moment she realizes that her marriage is over, she decides to walk out of it, much to the dismay of parents. But she takes that decision for herself, and for that, we applaud her!
7. Megha (Played By Kiara Advani In Lust Stories)
team___e / Instagram
Megha’s disappointment in the act of lovemaking and her eventual search for fulfillment was something that a lot of women are familiar with, but don’t really admit to, out in the open. Her refusal to buy the myth that women’s only desire is to have kids, encouraged women to open up about their sexuality. She made it clear that women too have bodily desires, and they too need fulfillment. Her revolutionary stance truly won us over.
8. Sulu (Played By Vidya Balan In Tumhari Sulu)
tumharisuluofficial / Instagram
Sulu’s confidence and her can-do attitude was a fresh take on the life of a homemaker. Generally, relegated to the background, Vidya Balan, brought the frustrations and aspirations of a homemaker to the fore. Her “can-do” spirit reminded us of the power and potential of thousands of homemakers and mothers, whose contributions often go unnoticed.
These were a few female characters which made us sit up in our seats and notice them. We cried with them, we laughed with them. We believed in their struggles.
