Ya know the english language is generally fine and all but y'all just don't have decent words for some german essentials
For example I will never not hate the english word for Brötchen
I mean I know if I say either bread roll or bun people are gonna generally understand what I mean but neither of those words actually encompass the full range of german Brötchen
To me this is a bread roll:

And this is a bun:

But both of those words do not feel correct for any of these things:
Tumblr media
Those are proper Brötchen and calling them bread roll or bun just feels so wrong

okay i've decided that i'm gonna give you a somewhat compregensive list of names i give my cat because there are so many (and i love talking about that absolute bastard)
Happy (that's just her name but we use it rarely tbh)
miezi (in a very highpitched voice and with a very long "i" at the end)
miezekatze (just in general for all cats as well)
katzi
häbbii (just a dumb pronounciation of her name)
fellknäuel (fur-ball, pretty accurate description)
wau-wau (my mom came up with that one because her meowing just kinda sounds like that)
mauz
schnupsi
flauschi (fluffy)
nipsi
brötchen (small bread, because cats are loafs)
m'lady (but u gotta do it with a little bow for effect)
and some of the (LOVING) insults:
dummkopf (literally meaning dumb-head)
idiot
dummes katzi (in a russian accent, also not even grammatically correct; meaning dumb cat)
demon-child
bitch
haarschleuder (literally: hair-sling)
wischmop (just a mop)
blöde miez (meaning dumb cat but it's more of an insult to her personality than her intelligence)
arschkopf (literally meaning ass-head; can be used for people too btw)
doofi (i'm really struggling with translating all of these but this means dumb but if it was a person and not an adjective???)
schlabbersack (literally: slobber-sack)
trottel (basically meaning dumbass)
katze (cat but it's said in an exasperated tone)
große böse miezekatze (in a grandma voice, meaning big bad cat)
here she is in all her glory:
Tumblr media
YOUR CAT IS GORGEOUS
i think my favorites from the list are brötchen, wau wau, dummes katzi and große böse miezekatze (i know how to pronounce miezekatse thanks to asmr zeitgeist hwkshsskbs)
also i’m alone atm and im grateful for it because as i was reading all of these i said them out loud and i must have sound extremely bad gakshskdh i dont know any german so i just improvised (german is such a pretty language and i probably destroyed it trying to prounce it ahskshsk)
