“KEMPTVILLE – In the lead-up to the provincial government’s online community engagement session on the proposed Eastern Ontario Correctional Complex, opponents of the proposed 235-bed prison rallied Saturday on the site selected for the prison.
“What do we want? Consultation! When do we want it? Now!” chanted the group of prison opponents who joined at the farmland of the Kemptville Campus just off Highway 416.
About 50 people attended the rally Saturday afternoon, many holding “No Prison!’ signs.
The virtual community engagement session on the proposed Eastern Ontario Correctional Complex in Kemptville will be held on Wednesday and is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
“We felt it was important that, ahead of the engagement session, that we remind not only our fellow citizens but our local council and the provincial representatives that we have a message of our own,” said Colleen Lynas, a spokeswoman for the Coalition Against the Proposed Prison (CAPP).
Members of CAPP and the Jail Opposition Group (JOG) have long felt that the provincial government has been lacking transparency and meaningful consultation since the correctional complex project was announced without prior notice in the summer of last year.
Christopher Wilson, a resident of North Grenville who attended and spoke at the rally, said he was “disappointed” that the upcoming community engagement consultation wasn’t being conducted in person and that he wouldn’t have the opportunity to express his opinion directly to the stakeholders involved in the project.
Sarah Bowie, a Kemptville resident who also spoke at the protest, agreed with Wilson that it was disappointing that the consultation session was not in-person despite eased COVID-19 restrictions.
“We need more transparency, so that begs the question why is our engagement session online still?” said Bowie. “I guess they can’t press mute in person.”
Bowie said she has previously lived in prison towns where she saw and experienced the impacts it had on the small towns they once called home, including overrun social services, and she doesn’t want to see it happen to Kemptville.
“We are here today because we love North Grenville and we want to protect it from what we believe is a really bad idea,” added Bowie.
The virtual community consultation session will seek input from staff, community, Indigenous and justice sector partners throughout the design and development stages of the project.
As well, the community engagement will allow people to learn more and ask questions about the proposed prison set to be built on provincially owned land, stated the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General.
The prison opponents have been asking questions to the Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP, Steve Clark, Solicitor General Sylvia Jones and Premier Doug Ford and others for almost 15 months but have received almost nothing in return, said Kirk Albert, a spokesman for JOG, adding that there are also many other reasons why the groups are staying steadfast to their requests to the provincial government to hold robust consolation with the public and stakeholders.
The group wants the Ministry of the Solicitor General to release all documents on the site selection.
Shortly after the correctional complex announcement, there was a virtual community engagement consultation in November of last year.
Lynas said the previous consultation session a year ago was a disappointment and locals are concerned that there will be a lot of talking points and “a bit of smoke and mirrors but not a lot of substance” this time around.”

Shortwave Radiogram, 13-16 May 2021: Se habla español
Shortwave Radiogram received some publicity on the May 7th edition of Amateur Radio Newsline. The audio and text are available here and the video version here. Thanks to Benn Kobb, AK4AV, for presenting the report. Videos of last weekend's Shortwave Radiogram (program 203) are provided by Scott in Ontario (Friday 1300 UTC), Frigid in Virginia (Saturday 1330 UTC), and kurma10goo in Japan (the MFSK32 segment Sunday 0800 UTC on 5850 kHz). The audio archive is maintained by Mark in the UK. Analysis is prepared by Roger in Germany. This weekend we will again demonstrate text transmission in a language other than English. It will be Spanish, so less complex (to our eyes) than the Khmer and Burmese we tried a few weeks ago. But there are diacritics (accent marks). These require the UTF-8 character set, which is default in Fldigi and TIVAR. If for some reason the diacritics do not display correctly, copy what you do decode in the Fldigi receive pane to a word process, and they might be correct there. ¿No hablas español? A link to an English version of the VOA story is also provided. Here is the lineup for Shortwave Radiogram, program 204, 13-16 May 2021, in MFSK modes as noted: 1:41  MFSK32: Program preview 2:43  Large US offshore wind project (in Spanish) 6:31  MFSK64: Method for predicting solar radio flux 10:14  This week's images 28:39  MFSK32: Closing announcements Please send reception reports to [email protected] And visit http://swradiogram.net Twitter: @SWRadiogram or https://twitter.com/swradiogram (visit during the weekend to see listeners' results) Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/567099476753304 Shortwave Radiogram Gateway Wiki https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Shortwave_Radiogram_Gateway

THE OLD NORMAL
How far will the pendulum swing?
What I saw described not long ago as the ‘crisis in public sanity’ was on full display during last month’s collapse of the Austrian government. In a now-celebrated sting video, the country's vice-chancellor, Heinz-Christian Strache (Freedom Party or FPÖ, hard-right), is seen chatting up a long-legged Russian woman ("Is she hot!"), presumed by Strache to be the niece of a Russian oligarch interested in doing shady business with the Republic of Austria. The boozy action takes place in a discreet villa on the Spanish island of Ibiza which has been professionally rigged with cameras and microphones. The result is a six-hour avalanche of free-flowing vulgarity and venality as the expansive vice-premier (and his sidekick, a parliamentary leader of the same party) makes one catastrophic confidence after another.
It is still not clear who set up the honey trap, although it has been suggested it was done in the public interest. When the video was finally outed by two German newspapers (*), political chaos broke out in Vienna. Strache and his colleague resigned the next morning, followed by the fellow ministers of the FPÖ. A caretaker government was quickly named until elections could be held. It fell a few days later.
Two things stayed with me. First, as he resigned, Mr. Strache publicly asked his wife Philippa for forgiveness. (She said she was thinking about it.) The second thing is contained in the Ibiza video itself: at one point Strache says that he would like Austria to be like the illiberal countries of eastern Europe (Hungary, Poland, etc.), where, he says, people are still "normal".
Normal. The notion of normality is at the core of the populist project to undo liberal societies.
In the Strachian sense of the word, normality, like morality, is based on widely established customs in a given society or dominant parts thereof. It refers to the common 'sense' or sentiment, to doxa, or ortho-doxy (the correct doxa, in Greek), which does not require evidence but is deemed to be both obvious and necessary by those who espouse it. It is often sanctified by traditionalist religion.
The Italian deputy prime-minister Matteo Salvini, the current king of Europe's populist leaders, has campaigned on the slogan of "Il buonsenso in Europa" or "La rivoluzione del buonsenso". Voters like it. The implied message is that Salvini's ‘revolutionary’ buonsenso is the opposite of rubbery rationality, openness, pluralism, minority rights, etc. This is, of course, nothing new. Authoritarian regimes have often used the 'healthy common sense of the people' as a source of legitimacy (**) . That is exactly what it was called in Adolf Hitler's Third Reich: das gesunde Volksempfinden, the normality that a majority can agree on or live with.
Like Donald Trump, Salvini advocates government based on emotion and conviction, presented as a commonsensical alternative to the stuffy expertise of pointy-headed elites, not to mention the self-serving technocrats in Brussels (now commonly referred to as the dictators in Brussels, notably by Brexiteers in the UK). Behind the turgid sloganeering of 'America First', 'Prima l'Italia' or 'Take back control' hides an appeal to naked self-interest that is more like 'Me first' and recalls Margaret Thatcher's historic claim that there was no such thing as society, only individuals.
Before long, the rejection of multilateral thinking, the denial of the complexities of an interdependent world become axiomatic. From there it is only a small step to racial supremacy and 'Make America (Hungary, Poland, Denmark...) white again'. As the pillars of tolerance and reason crumble, so does the edifice of human rights that was constructed after WW II. Secularism, feminism, LGBT, immigrants, Jews, climate change, abortion, vegetarianism -- it all fuses into an amalgam of suspect marginality that is incompatible with the popular 'buonsenso', the obscurantist normality advocated by Marine Le Pen, Viktor Orban, Jarosław Kaczyński etc. Together they have pushed the political centre of gravity to the right. Father knows best. Open or implied anti-Semitism was unthinkable until recently in Europe, but it has gained shocking currency in countries such as Hungary. It has been normalized.
How could this happen? The German born political scientist Yasha Mounk (see pointy heads, above?) has examined the parallels between the old Iron Curtain that used to run through Europe, and the new ideological divide between a tolerant north-west and a increasingly illiberal east, notably the so-called Visegrád countries that champion anti-European nationalism and reject all immigration. What could have happened during the Soviet era to make those countries (and Russia itself) so fearful today, so vulnerable to the gut-based appeal of strongmen and demagogues? The question may already have lost its pertinence since the populist wave has crossed the east-west divide and reached Western-European countries presumed to be moored in secular pragmatism and openness. Not anymore.
Which brings me back to the meaning and use of the word normal. With every turn of the screw of normal, Europe becomes a more inhospitable, bitter place. Today's crude attempt to restore a pre-modern political order is engineered by the likes of Nigel Farage, the Brexit supremo, and Steve Bannon, Donald Trump's former ideologue-in-chief. His kind of worldview opposes moral and gender relativism, fosters hatred and belligerent national pride, it champions inalterable normality and holds that even the Pope of Rome is too far to the left for his own good.
My question now is if Bannon's pendulum has swung about as far to the right as it will go, or if we're only in the early stages of Western civilization's gathering darkness, its blind, willful demise.

Nature is a balm (CSM) Some people look for laughter in times of stress. Others seek distraction. But in this time of self-isolation, many are finding respite in nature. Beyond the promise of fresh air and a change of scenery, spending time with nature invites a sense of calm. The rhythms of the natural world serve as reminders that life goes on, even as we humans are consumed by uncertainty, says Patricia Hasbach, a clinical psychotherapist. It is a reminder that the world is greater than us and our stress. Even quick trips outside can bring wide-ranging benefits, says Lisa Nisbet, assistant professor of psychology at Trent University in Ontario. In fact, she says, a few brief moments in nature can help restore focus and concentration. So for folks working from home, a quick walk around the block at lunchtime might make for a more productive afternoon.
As life moves online, the offline fall behind (CSM) As endless social media feeds and YouTube videos emphasize that “We’re all in this together,” a huge swath of the population is finding itself digitally erased from the conversation. Some 42 million Americans, and a quarter of all rural residents, lack access to broadband, according to a February 2020 report from BroadbandNow. Even among those who live in places where broadband is offered, for many, it remains out of reach: Just 41% of households with incomes below $20,000 have broadband at home. As the coronavirus pandemic forces Americans out of their workplaces, classrooms, and social spaces, and into their homes, the internet has become, for many, the only link to society. Amid a steady stream of news stories about teleconferencing, remote learning, and Netflix binging, those without reliable online access are finding themselves shut out.
U.S. Food Supply Chain Shows Strain as Virus Spreads (NYT) The nation’s food supply chain is showing signs of strain, as increasing numbers of workers are falling ill with the coronavirus in meat processing plants, warehouses and grocery stores. The spread of the virus through the food and grocery industry is expected to cause disruptions in production and distribution of certain products like pork, industry executives, labor unions and analysts have warned in recent days. The issues follow nearly a month of stockpiling of food and other essentials by panicked shoppers that have tested supply networks as never before. Industry leaders and observers acknowledge the shortages could increase, but they insist it is more of an inconvenience than a major problem. The food supply remains robust, they say, with hundreds of millions of pounds of meat in cold storage. There is no evidence that the coronavirus can be transmitted through food or its packaging, according to the Department of Agriculture. Still, the illnesses have the potential to cause shortages lasting weeks for a few products, creating further anxiety for Americans already shaken by how difficult it can be to find high-demand staples like flour and eggs.
Cities, counties fear losing out on US virus rescue funding (AP) The $2.2 trillion federal rescue package could fail to deliver badly needed financial aid to thousands of smaller cities and counties where a majority of Americans live, according to documents and interviews with local officials. The coronavirus outbreak has blown holes in the budgets of communities as the costs of battling the outbreak skyrocket and critical sources of revenue like sales and income taxes plummet. The Coronavirus Relief Fund uses a formula based on population to parcel out tens of billions of dollars to the states while allowing local governments with more than 500,000 residents to apply directly to the Treasury Department for cash infusions. But localities below the half-million population threshold are in limbo. Of the nearly 3,100 counties in the United States, 130 have populations of more than 500,000, according to the National Association of Counties. There are 36 cities over the half-million mark, the National League of Cities told President Donald Trump in a letter last week. More than half the country’s population lives in cities, towns and villages of fewer than 50,000 people, the letter noted.
Virus exposes US inequality. Will it spur lasting remedies? (AP) The sick who still go to work because they have no paid leave. Families who face ruin from even a temporary layoff. Front-line workers risking infection as they drive buses, bag takeout meals and mop hospital floors. For years, financial inequality has widened in the United States and elsewhere as wealth and income have become increasingly concentrated among the most affluent while millions struggle to get by. Congress, the Trump administration and the Federal Reserve have mounted the largest financial intervention in history--a full-scale drive that includes mandating sick leave for some, distributing $1,200 checks to individuals, allocating rescue aid to employers and expanding unemployment benefits to try to help America survive the crisis. Yet those measures are only temporary. And the disaster that is igniting what’s likely to be a deep recession also raises the question of what happens once life begins to edge back to normal. Will the U.S. remain an outlier among wealthy countries in providing limited protections for the financially vulnerable? Or will it expand the social safety net, as it did after the Great Depression of the 1930s but largely did not after the Great Recession that ended in 2009?
COVID and prisons (Worldcrunch) “What if I never get to see my family again?,” asks Kenneth Hogan, an inmate at Eastern New York correctional facility in a letter to The Guardian. With precautionary measures such as the suspension of outside visits, a grimmer than usual mood is setting in on the U.S. inmate population. Experts say that prison and jails are particularly ripe for propagation, like “petri dishes for coronavirus,” for inmates and staff alike. In California for instance, CNN reports that the number of infections in the state’s prison facilities grew by more than 700% in just over a week.
Bears are having a ‘party’ in shuttered Yosemite National Park (Washington Post) The global pandemic has been good news for bears in Yosemite National Park, where they are thriving in the absence of tourists, according to park workers. “The bear population has quadrupled,” Dane Peterson, who works at the popular Ahwahnee Hotel inside the park, told the Los Angeles Times on Monday. He and the few other essential workers left in the park have also noticed bobcats and coyotes that usually lurk in the shadows are now boldly prowling around employee housing. The animals have always been there, rangers say. It’s just that they’re finally coming out of hiding. With humans gone, the animals are having “a party,” one ranger explained. And instead of going out of their way to avoid large crowds, they are ambling down roads where it’s usually more common to encounter bumper-to-bumper traffic than wildlife.
Venezuela’s Maduro, Used to Crises, Faces His Toughest One Yet (NYT) Only a month ago, President Nicols Maduro seemed to be consolidating his autocratic rule. The opposition was fading into irrelevance, international pressure was waning and the country’s devastating economic woes were finally easing, if only a bit. Then, suddenly, a global pandemic shut down what’s left of the economy, the collapse of global oil prices wiped out Venezuela’s main remaining economic lifeline and the United States mounted a determined, new effort to oust Mr. Maduro. The Venezuelan leader now confronts one of the most complex crises of a seven-year rule that has been filled with them. At stake are the lives and livelihoods of millions of people in South America’s poorest nation, who face a seventh consecutive year of economic calamity, a new bout of hyperinflation and the deadly threat of the coronavirus.
European countries slowly begin opening up (Foreign Policy) Spain made its first step in easing lockdown restrictions as it allowed roughly 300,000 non-essential workers to return to work, mostly in the construction and manufacturing sectors. The number of new daily coronavirus cases in Spain has dropped in recent days, and on Monday the country recorded its smallest increase in cases since March 22. It is the beginning of a gradual relaxation of strict lockdown procedures in Europe as well as a test of whether countries have succeeded in flattening their coronavirus curves: In Austria, small shops will reopen today, and in Denmark, schools and childcare centers will reopen on Wednesday. France is not following the trend, as French President Emmanuel Macron announced that schools and shops would remain closed until May 11.
Putin warns Russians to brace for ‘extraordinary measures’ in coronavirus fight (South China Morning Post) President Vladimir Putin on Monday warned officials to brace for “extraordinary” scenarios in the coronavirus pandemic as Moscow tightened its lockdown measures and Russia reported its highest daily infection figures yet. Putin’s warning came as mainland China battled to contain imported cases, especially from neighboring Russia. In a video conference with officials on Monday, Putin said the next weeks would be “decisive” for Russia’s fight against the virus as the situation “is changing practically every day, and unfortunately not for the better.” He told officials that they need to “consider all scenarios for how the situation will develop, even the most complex and extraordinary.”
Ukraine says Chernobyl fire extinguished (Reuters) A huge blaze that tore through forests around the defunct Chernobyl nuclear plant has been put out, Ukrainian officials said on Tuesday, saying hundreds of emergency workers had used planes and helicopters to douse the flames. Environmental activists warned that the fire, near the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster in 1986, posed a radiation risk.
India extends world’s biggest lockdown (Reuters) India extended a lockdown on its 1.3 billion people until at least May 3 on Tuesday and Prime Minister Narendra Modi said economic sacrifices were needed to save lives as the number of coronavirus cases exceeded 10,000.
Coronavirus Fears Terrify and Impoverish Migrants in the Persian Gulf (NYT) Qatar has locked down tens of thousands of migrant workers in a crowded neighborhood, raising fears it will become a coronavirus hotbed. Companies in Saudi Arabia have told foreign laborers to stay home--then stopped paying them. In Kuwait, an actress said on TV that migrants should be thrown out “into the desert.” The oil-rich monarchies of the Persian Gulf have long relied on armies of low-paid migrant workers from Asia, Africa and elsewhere to do the heavy lifting in their economies, and have faced longstanding criticism from rights groups for treating those laborers poorly. Now, the coronavirus pandemic has made matters worse, as migrants in Gulf States have found themselves locked down in cramped, unsanitary dorms, deprived of income and unable to return home because of travel restrictions. Some are running out of food and money and fear they have no place to turn in societies that often treat them like an expendable underclass.
Libya’s war escalates despite international calls for ‘humanitarian pause’ amid pandemic (NYT) One year after an offensive was launched against the Libyan capital Tripoli, Libya’s war is intensifying, and hundreds of thousands of civilians are besieged amid increased shelling and massive water and electricity cuts. Hospitals are being targeted just as the coronavirus is threatening an already shattered health system. The United Nations, the United States and other countries have pleaded with the warring sides for a “humanitarian pause” to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Instead, both sides appear to be determined to take advantage of the international focus on the pandemic and try to gain more territory. After initially agreeing to the “pause,” the warring sides returned to combat within days. The increasing violence is raising alarms within the United Nations and humanitarian agencies. There are now 24 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus and one death. And Libya’s health system has been decimated by the war.

5 Accidental X-Rated Subliminal Messages That Are Everywhere
If you’re anything like us, you can’t help but see penises in everything: in clouds, in buildings, even in men’s underwear. People can’t seem to help but create phallic symbols, almost as if dicks secretly run the entire world. And dick imagery can pop up in the most awkward places. Pay enough attention to anything, no matter how mundane, and, as if by magic, a wang will appear out of the ether.
Here are some of those special miracles.
5
Halftime Shows Are Full Of Dicks
Halftime shows are as much an American sporting tradition as Gatorade or lasting brain damage, and apart from the occasional wardrobe malfunction, they’re usually wholesome affairs — pop stars lip-sync to their biggest hits, and cheerleaders twirl around while trying to ignore some of the drunkest pick-up lines ever shouted in a public place. But sometimes all the raging testosterone from the game bursts over to the halftime entertainment, resulting in secret dicks.
When Prince was asked to play the halftime slot of the 2007 Super Bowl, it remains unknown what kind of family fun the organizers expected from the human personification of sex froth. Viewers tuning in for a little taste of “Purple Rain” or “1999” were instead treated to a David Copperfield-esque magic silhouette curtain, specially lit to show the diminutive music legend jerking his guitar dick.
That’s the risk you take when hiring a man with more thrusting masculinity in his lithe elvish body than the whole defensive line. But a phallic faux pas can even happen with the nerdiest of all sporting entertainers: the marching band. To be sure, nothing is more erotic than a bunch of people dressed up like nutcrackers hammering out the Batman theme, but marching bands are generally tightly regimented paragons of discipline. Yet even they can break formation and fall face-first into a pile of accidental wangs. Like these rhythmic dweebs who wanted to celebrate their Kansas State team by recreating their beloved Jayhawk mascot next to the iconic Starship Enterprise …
Kansas State Marching Band
… but ended up forming a fiercely erect cock angling towards a bird’s open beak:
Deadspin Boldly going where no man should go.
Even highbrow institutions like Harvard can’t control themselves. While battling it out with the University Of Pennsylvania, the marching band claimed they wanted to honor their opponent by forming “Penn ’15.” All they did, however, was highlight the inherent floppiness of a human font:
SB Nation Still not the worst incident involving a penis at a Pennsylvania college.
4
Weather And Traffic Reporters Draw Peens All The Time
If there’s one place that should be a respite for all the wang-typhoons swirling around in the world, it’s the news. The journalists on TV bring us serious, often tragic stories, and do so with great composure, grace, and the highest degree of professionalism.
Except for the weather presenters, who occasionally just scrawl floppy dongs all over every available surface.
It’s not their fault, really. It’s their job to track the weather, and sometimes the weather can take some pretty turgid shapes. When that happens, a tornado report can take quickly turn into a dire message warning people of a far more terrifying event.
Similarly, a New Jersey website tried to warn residents of a potential flood risk by unleashing a massive unsheathed poonhammer on the entire Eastern seaboard:
And those worried about illegal immigration from neighboring Mexico have reason to be alarmed, as Zeus’ massive dick and balls are in the process of breaching the southern border crossing:
Apparently you can’t even tune in for traffic updates without correspondents finger-tracing blocks-long hard-ons that will most definitely jam up your commute.
The moral of the story is: Don’t give presenters interactive screens and expect them not to accidentally dip a giant boner in your kid’s breakfast cereal.
3
Advertisers Deal Heavily In Accidental Dicks
There’s a long history of people slipping subliminal sexual innuendos into commercials, hence the age-old mantra “sex sells.” Unless, of course, the subliminal sexuality was totally accidental, in which case it does the exact opposite of sell.
With so many heavy hitters and specialty craft brewers in the beer industry, it can be awful hard to set yourself apart from the pack. One brewer in Costa Rica thought that having a giant grilled sausage plastered on a billboard on the side of the road would get people thinking about delicious barbecues featuring their refreshing beer:
Unless they were driving on the other side of the road, which makes it look like a giant cock is peering from behind the billboard like a Scooby-Doo detective.
Restaurant advertising is a phallic landmine as well. Ever noticed how a chef’s hat kind of looks like an elongated bropedo? We didn’t either, until the heroes behind this Virginia bistro’s logo showed us the light:
Market Place swears it had no idea when it chose the logo, thinking it was just a mustachioed chef greeting customers from the window. Instead, customers can only see a winged dick dive-bombing the soup d’jour.
Meanwhile, a Brazilian university, meaning to unveil a logo consisting of an ornate tiered tower with a gorgeous red sun rising in the sky behind it to commemorate an Oriental Studies institute on their campus, wound up accidentally shoving those good intentions directly up its own ass:
Obviously, because no institute of higher learning wants to be known for telling its Oriental Studies department to go boof itself, they quickly withdrew the logo. But the internet is forever.

Women’s Hair Products Look Like Sex Toys
Hair is not generally considered to be an erogenous zone, which is why the Kama Sutra doesn’t have an entry called the “Mounting Ponytail.” Yet it seems that the maniacs who come up with hair styling tools have finally given up on finding new ways to design their feminine products without throwing a few dicks into the mix.
“Hot Buns” is ostensibly a helpful hair styling tool for women, but it is so clearly a giant knobby dildo that not even its product demonstrators can deny it.
Similarly, the Pearl Curling Wand looks like what old timey psychiatrists used to get rid of hysteria. Now, we understand that there’s only one shape a curling iron can take — that of a thick, powerful penis — and we’re even willing to forgive the many sexual images that a “pearl wand” conjures up. But if this thing didn’t heat up to scorching temperatures, we don’t think this would see much upstairs hair action. Hell, it’s basically a multitool.

Buildings All Over The World Are Secretly Giant Dicks
Thanks to Google Earth, the world has gotten used to looking at their buildings from above, like a winged cartographer. Which is bad news for some architects and construction engineers, who thought the biggest threat to people finding out they’ve erected skyscrapers that look like skyscraping erections was Groupons for helicopter lessons.
That’s London’s soon-to-be largest apartment block: Spire London. From the bottom, it looks like a giant eyesore, but from the top, it looks like it’ll actually poke your eye out. The Spire London promises to be the highest residential building in Western Europe, so Londoners can soon enjoy watching pilots desperately pulling up in order to avoid crashing into the tip.
The Supreme Court of India also suffers from an acute case of phallisitis. The court, with its bushy garden and squat features, perfectly captures the shriveled old dicks gathering in this building to uphold their archaic rules.
Meanwhile, residents of an otherwise-lovely middle-class neighborhood in northern England have begun to fear for the value of their homes since it was revealed that their cul-de-sac is a bit heavy in the sac department:
And while residents might be miffed that they’re now living on the wrong side of Shaftesbury Lane, at least their town’s entire tourism isn’t based on the revelation that their little canal paradise kind of looks like an anatomically correct penis with a healthy urethra:
Yet it’s quite easy to notice that a rectangle with a few round edges looks a bit like a penis. So how about a building complex that looks like a naked man squatting, ass agape, with a flaccid dick drooping pendulously down between his bulging red balls? A sprawling health center in Ontario, Canada offers just that:
But sometimes, there’s no need for human ineptitude; nature provides. For the low sum of $122,000, you can buy land on a 42-acre island near Fiji with some pretty stunning scenery …
… which you can view from both the head and the scrote of this shy little nub of an island:

[Ontario Taking Immediate Action to Replace the Province's Crumbling Public Safety Radio Network](https://www.va3dbj.ca/ontario-taking-immediate-action-to-replace-the-provinces-crumbling-public-safety-radio-network/ "https://www.va3dbj.ca/ontario-taking-immediate-action-to-replace-the-provinces-crumbling-public-safety-radio-network/")
RELEASE – Ontario’s Government for the People is taking immediate action to keep Ontarians safe and protect communities by replacing the province’s crumbling Public Safety Radio Network, which frontline and emergency responders rely on during emergencies.
“This modernization project is long overdue,” said Premier Ford. “Our frontline and emergency responders need to have reliable, modern tools and resources in place to do their jobs and we are going to make sure this life-saving system gets underway.”
This multi-faceted project will ensure Ontario’s more than 38,000 frontline and emergency responders — including OPP police officers, paramedics and hospital staff, fire services, provincial highway maintenance staff, as well as enforcement and correctional officers — can count on the communications infrastructure, network and equipment they need when responding to emergencies.
“Ontario’s Public Safety Radio Network is one of the largest and most complex in North America and yet one of the last not to comply with the North American standard,” said Michael Tibollo, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services. “The daily service outages experienced with the network compromise our frontline and emergency responders’ ability to react to emergencies and put the safety of the public at risk.”
The modernization project will:
Rebuild the network’s aging infrastructure (telecommunications towers, antennae, shelters and technology) that provides essential public safety radio coverage across the province
Provide frontline and emergency responders, as well as their dispatchers, with the state-of-the-art radio equipment and consoles they need to manage calls and ensure the right responders get to the right place with the right information at the right time
Provide maintenance services to restore network connection and repair equipment for a duration of 15 years.
“The Public Safety Radio Network is essential to helping front-line responders communicate with each other to provide Ontarians with vital emergency services,” said Christine Elliott, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. “By replacing this aging system with state-of-the-art technology, we are providing resources to paramedics, police officers, fire services and others to keep Ontarians safe.”
The new network is expected to be fully operational by 2023, with new service phased in by 2021. Infrastructure, equipment and services required to set up and maintain the new network will be acquired through a multi-vendor procurement process. The new network will also present potential opportunities for generating revenue, which will benefit taxpayers. In the meantime, a risk mitigation strategy has been developed to ensure that public safety is not compromised and that the current network is maintained until the new network is fully operational.
“This network is critical to my ministry staff in the North,” added Jeff Yurek, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry. “Much of their work is done well beyond cell towers — including our brave fire service members who need to stay connected with crews on the ground, as well as our conservation officers while patrolling remote areas. This important investment will provide better service for the people of Ontario and greater security for ministry staff who depend on this network to keep communities safe.”
“The recent tornadoes experienced in Eastern Ontario prove how important it is for us to modernize our Public Safety Radio Network,” said Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “The upgrades will help municipal first responders like paramedics, fire services and police do their important jobs better.”

Shortwave Radiogram, 18-21 March 2021: Flmsg with Fldigi (what can possibly go wrong?)
The spring time change is now complete in North America (a few states and provinces do not observe daylight time). WINB on 9265 kHz and WRMI 9955 kHz keep programs at the same Eastern times, so Shortwave Radiogram will be one hour earlier by UTC on these frequencies. WRMI on all its other frequencies, and WINB on their DRM frequency, stay with UTC, so Shortwave Radiogram will be one hour later by local time in most of North America on those frequencies (WRMI: 15770, 5850, 7730 and 7780 kHz). See the updated schedule below. Last week's html was mostly successful. See this example. Our experiment with using line breaks <CR><LF>'s at 65 spaces seems to have eliminated the stray code and words with spaces in the middle. A video of last weekend's Shortwave Radiogram (program 195) is provided by Scott in Ontario. The audio archive is maintained by Mark in the UK (who has maintained this audio archive for the past eight years, since the time of VOA Radiogram. Thanks Mark!) Analysis is prepared by Roger in Germany. Flmsg this weekend. Program 196 will be a complex show, with a plain text schedule table and three Flmsg items. The following instructions will be a dense as a college textbook ... Flmsg is an application that accompanies Fldigi. Flmsg is used by amateur radio for mainly for emergency message handling, but we can also make use of it on Shortwave Radiogram. If you do not have Flmsg, you will see be able to see the content in the receive pane.   1) Download Flmsg from http://w1hkj.com/files/flmsg/ 2) To make Fldigi work with Flmsg, in Fldigi: Configure Config Dialog NBEMS interface Under reception of flmsg files: Unselect Transfer direct to executing flmsg Select Open with flmsg Select Open in browser Specify (with path) where the Flmsg is located on your PC 3) In the Flmsg first setup ... "Select Default User Interface" ...    Select Communicator / Expert     Then in Flmsg ...    Config    ARQ interface    Select only Sync modem to fldigi 4) Audio samples are available for Flmsg practice: CSV Blank form Transfer (of html file) 5) Android users can try AndFlmsg ... http://w1hkj.com/files/AndFlmsg/ Here is the lineup for Shortwave Radiogram, program 196, 18-21  March 2021, in MFSK modes as noted:   1:52  MFSK32: Program preview   4:23  Shortwave Radiogram schedule as plain-text table (not Flmsg)  (1)   8:29  Shortwave Radiogram schedule as Flmsg CSV file* (2) 10:32  MFSK64: ISS amateur gear repairs, as Flmsg Blank form* (3) 13:22  Radio galaxy detected, as Flmsg Transfer of html file* (4) 17:02  This week's images (six this week) 28:10  MFSK32: Closing announcements * Uses Flmsg from www.w1hkj.com/files/flmsg/.  If you do not have Flmsg, the content will still be visible in the Fldigi receive pane.  If Fldigi has been configured correctly, Fldigi will open Flmsg to the correct form. In some cases, a new window of your web browser will also open.  After any of the Flmsg transmissions, if you get a checksum error message, click Yes when prompted whether to ignore errors. (1) For the table to display correctly, use a monospace font (all letters are the same width) such as Courier, Courier New, Consolas, Lucida Console, Source Code Pro, or Terminal. If the table is out of alignment because you have a proportional-spaced font, copy the table to a text editor or word processor with a monospace font selected. (2) When the Flmsg CSV form appears, click View CSV. You can also export the CSV file to your computer, then open the CSV file using your spreadsheet program. If you do not have Flmsg, paste the CSV text to a text editor and save it as a .csv file. (3) If Fldigi has been configured correctly, the Flmsg blank form and a new window of your web browser will open. If your default browser is not open, it will be opened. If you do not have Flmsg, the story will appear in your receive pane as plain text. (4) Upon completion of the transmission, the name of the html file will appear in the Flmsg Tranfer form. Click on the file name, then click Open. If you do not have Flmsg, copy the received html text from, and including, <!DOCTYPE html> to, and including,  </html> to a text editor, save it as an .html file, and open the .html file in a web browser. Placeholder - Aug #3
Last Thursday a couple of events coincided. The Ecological Farmers of Ontario (EFAO) held their first-ever fund-raising dinner at the The New Farm, which is just 45 minutes away from us. It was also my birthday, so I strong-armed Mr. Ferdzy into going as a birthday treat. Since we were in a wild and reckless mood, we took my Mom too. At $150 each, that was a bit wild and reckless. Still, I think this is about the second time in 30 years together that I have made Mr. Ferdzy take me out for my birthday so on a pro-rated basis he has not done badly. We arrived in the late afternoon and enjoyed some drinks and nibbles before dinner, which was to be served in the barn - you can see one of the tables at the far right of the photo. We didn't know too many people so we milled around for a while. People seemed to be pretty friendly, and being the world's dorkiest conversationalist, I tried to break the ice by asking, "So, are you a farmer?" There were some, but mostly people weren't, is my impression.
Guillermo, one of the chefs from Richmond Station restaurant, passes out appetizers and chats with some of the guests. Guillermo - gosh I hope I have that name right, somebody please correct me if I don't - actually works at the farm, growing vegetables in the large (laaarge) kitchen garden, which then go to the restaurant in Toronto. Except for the ones that are eaten on the spot, of course. The New Farm has a very efficient and attractive cooking and dining set-up and meals and events happen there regularly.
I can tell you who two of these people are; Mr Ferdzy and the famous Mom, both on the right. The man in the violet shirt is Thorsten Arnold, who told me that "his wife is the farmer, he just helps some" and not that he is the Strategic Initiatives and Fundraising Coordinator for EFAO. But I guess it serves me right; I asked him if he was a farmer.
A couple of the chefs haul vegetable scraps out to the poultry pen. The chickens are plainly prepared for this routine, and mobbed the scraps as soon as they were dumped.
Gillian Flies (left) and Brent Preston (centre) are the farmers behind The New Farm. They introduced themselves and the event, and then we heard a few words from Ali English (right) who is the executive director of EFAO.
Next Gillian and Brent gave a tour of the farm. They talked about their conversion to a no-till system, newly implemented, and the changes they are already seeing. Behind them is one of their fields, recently mown, in which a "cocktail" cover crop had been grown. Sunflowers, radishes, and an assortment of other plants were grown to pull up nutrients from the depths of the soil and provide organic matter. They will compost over the winter then provide improved soil for spring planting.
The New Farm started as a mixed vegetable farm, but has evolved to supply mostly salad greens to mostly restaurants (about 70 of them, between Toronto and Collingwood) and a few markets; about 20 of those. That white streak in the background is another field of greens, being kept under row covers to keep the pests out.
One of the new features of the no-till system is the use of tarps to prepare planting areas, by killing the weeds, and possibly warming the soil. Although as Brent said, that has not exactly been an issue this year. The photo above makes it clear that there are surprising differences between the covered spots and the uncovered spots. Ignore the lettuce on the right and focus on the spinach seedlings in the centre. The ones on the right were planted in the area that had been covered by a tarp. The ones on the left were planted in the area which was not covered. There was a very distinct line between the two! The tarps they are using are made of a plastic film, actually for use with silage on dairy farms, as it is readily available and affordable.
Next we all trooped over to the "kitchen garden" The woman in the front there is Fran McQuail, one of the founders of the EFAO, of Meeting Place Organic Farm. She is looking at the beds of carrots, which are being grown as part of a trial of carrot seeds. EFAO does a lot of farmer-led research, which it turns out is a lot more complex, expensive and generally not done, than you would have thought. Because ecological farmers don't tend to be big consumers of industrial farm products, they don't tend to have much research done on their behalf. This is one of the real benefits of belonging to EFAO.
Guillermo and Katrina McQuail in the garden.
And then, it was time for dinner. I took a picture of this first plate that was brought out, a delicious sign of things to come, with hummus, quinoa tabbouleh, roasted tomatoes, arugula and amazing little homemade pita breads  - the extra touch that let us know that dinner, by chef Carl Heinrich of Richmond Station, was going to something out of the ordinary.  After that the dishes came fast and furious, and I was too busy eating and talking to our neighbours to take any pictures. There were some really delicious beets with yogurt and mint (yes, there was a definite middle-eastern vibe going on); there was charred eggplant with yogurt and corn; stuffed pattypan squash; and a fairly simply cooked pastured chicken with grilled scallions. It was all so good!
At the very end I remembered to take one more picture of the very impressive peach shortcake which finished the meal, as we listened to a short speech from Tony McQuail. It wasn't quite as dark as the photo makes it out to be; but I did need to use the flash. After that we headed out, as we still had a bit of a drive to get home. It was a very enjoyable evening and I was sorry to see it end. from Seasonal Ontario Food https://seasonalontariofood.blogspot.com/2018/08/placeholder-aug-3.html

Shortwave Radiogram, 6-8 November 2020: Complex experiments - wear your white lab coat
Tumblr media
With the winter time change now fully in effect, please note that broadcasts of Shortwave Radiogram from WRMI Florida stay with their UTC times, so they are one hour earlier by local time in most of North America and Europe. Broadcasts from WINB Pennsylvania on 9265 kHz stay with Eastern Time, so they are one hour later by UTC. However, the WINB DRM transmission stays with UTC. See the schedule below. Last weekend we experimented with the new modes MFSK32WIDE and MFSK64WIDE. See this page for more information about these new modes. The 2000 Hz bandwidth is designed to increase redundancy and thus the accuracy of the text decode over the conventional MFSK32 and MFSK64 modes. One "problem" is that MFSK32 is such a good mode that it is difficult to find signals bad enough to result in errors that can be improved upon by MFSK32WIDE. We did find a few examples of improved decode with MFSK32WIDE. Differences with MFSK64 and MFSK64WIDE were difficult to discern, but testing continues. A video of last weekend's Shortwave Radiogram (program 176) is provided by Scott in Ontario. The audio archive is maintained by Mark in the UK. Analysis is prepared by Roger in Germany. This weekend we will limit our experiment to MFSK32 versus MFSK32WIDE. Another problem with last week's tests is that, as we are aware, the signal of Shortwave Radiogram can deteriorate or improve during the half hour. If several minutes elapse between one mode and the next, changing conditions would give the erroneous impression that one mode is better than another. To correct for this, we will tighten up the amount of time between modes. This will consist of six transmissions, each between 1 1/2 and 2 minutes in length, three MFSK32 and three MFSK32WIDE. Please observe if the decode of MFSK32WIDE improves upon that of MFSK32. Of course, challenging reception conditions will make this experiment more interesting . This weekend's show is in the usual MFSK32 and MFSK64, as well as the new MFSK32WIDE. You will need Fldigi 4.1.15.05 or newer (available here) to decode the MFSK32WIDE. If you do not have this version, or if  you use TIVAR/AndFlmsg, you will miss less than five minutes of the show. You can access the entire article about the New York City bookstore here. We'll be so busy comparing modes that we will only have time for seven MFSK64 images. Here is the lineup for Shortwave Radiogram, program 177, 6-8 November 2020, in MFSK modes as noted:   1:44  MFSK32: Program preview   3:18  MFSK32: Independent bookstore in New York City   5:13  MFSK32WIDE: Bookstore (continued)**   6:47  MFSK32: Bookstore (continued)   8:50  MFSK32WIDE: Bookstore (continued)** 10:26  MFSK32: Bookstore (continued) 12:12  MFSK32WIDE: Bookstore (continued)** 14:01  MFSK64: This week's images 28:07  MFSK32: Closing announcements ** Text will not appear in the receive pane until about 20 seconds after the sound of the mode begins. The Mighty KBC transmits to North America Sundays at 0000-0200 UTC (Saturday 7-9 pm EST) on 5960 kHz, via Germany. A minute of MFSK is at about 0130 UTC.  Reports to Eric: [email protected] . See also http://www.kbcradio.eu/ and https://www.facebook.com/TheMightyKbc/. “This is a Music Show” is the newest addition to digital modes via analog shortwave. Most of the show is a music show, but the host transmits some MFSK text and image near the end of the broadcast. It’s transmitted on WRMI, Thursdays at 0200-0300 UTC on 5850 kHz (Wednesday evening in the Americas) and a new time also on WRMI, Wednesdays at 2100-2200 UTC on 7780 kHz (aimed towards Europe) . Also look for a waterfall ID at the beginning of the show. [email protected] .  www.twitter.com/ThisIsAMusicSho/ @ThisIsAMusicSho New York and Pennsylvania NBEMS nets. Most weekends, as KD9XB, I check in to the New York NBEMS (Narrow Band Emergency Messaging Software) net Saturday at 1300 UTC on 3584 kHz USB, and the Pennsylvania NBEMS net Sunday at 1230 UTC on 3583 kHz USB (with out-of-state check-ins now starting at 1130 UTC). Check-ins are usually in Thor 22, and messages are in MFSK32. Messages generally use the Flmsg add-on to Fldigi. If you are a radio amateur in eastern North America, feel free to check in. Outside the region, use an SDR in the eastern USA to tune in and decode. You do not need Flmsg to check in, and most of the messages can be read without Flmsg. If you can decode the net, send me an email to [email protected] , or tweet to @SWRadiogram, and I will let them know you are tuned in. USEast NBEMS Net: Please also note the USEast NBEMS Net, Thursdays 0000 UTC (Wednesdays 7 pm EST) on 3536 kHz USB.
