Beware of the Fatty Liver Disease Sign by Dr. Sushrut Singh
Fatty liver disease (steatosis) is a common condition brought on by an accumulation of too much fat in the liver. There is a modest amount of fat in a healthy liver. When fat amounts to 5% to 10% of your liver's weight, it becomes an issue.
Children and adults with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease frequently don't exhibit any early signs, but a fat gut is one sign. Additionally, the condition is commonly accompanied by diabetes, high cholesterol, excessive triglycerides, or heart issues.
Tumblr media
Why you should treat fatty liver as a warning?
The fatty liver disease typically doesn't result in any severe issues or interfere with your liver's ability to operate correctly. But fatty liver disease worsens with time for 7% to 30% of those who have it. There are three stages it goes through:
●  Your liver swells up and gets inflamed, which harms the organ's tissue.
●  Your damaged liver develops scar tissue.  The procedure fibrosis.
●  Healthy tissue is replaced by extensive scar tissue. Right now, you suffer from liver cirrhosis.
Cirrhosis:
The liver has suffered extensive damage, which results in cirrhosis. The liver's function is slowed down by the tough scar tissue that has replaced healthy liver tissue. It may eventually completely stop the liver from functioning. Liver failure and liver cancer can result from cirrhosis.
These signs may emerge as the symptoms of fatty liver disease worsen:
●   Chronic stiffness or fatigue.
●   Discomfort in the abdomen, such as cramps or nausea.
●   Confusion or trouble focusing.
●   Readily bleeding or bruised, including nosebleeds.
●   Appetite reduction and weight loss.
The levels of liver enzymes can be checked in a blood test by worried parents. A doctor may also order an ultrasound or scan in addition to checking the abdomen to discover if the liver is enlarged. But those tests might not detect issues. The most trustworthy one is a biopsy, which involves taking a small sample of liver tissue and examining it under a microscope.
How to reverse or avert fatty liver disease
●   To lose weight gradually but steadily, combine exercise with a healthy diet.
●   Utilize medication and diet to manage cholesterol and diabetes.
●   Get a hepatitis vaccination to protect your liver from future damage.
●    Avoid anything that can harm your liver, such as alcohol, narcotics, and supplements.
●   Let a liver specialist manage your care.
●   If you have advanced liver illness, stay away from raw oysters and shellfish as they may contain bacteria that are highly hazardous.
Doctor’s advice on how to avoid fatty liver?
The best approach to prevent fatty liver disease is to practice healthy lifestyle habits, such as:
●   Maintaining a healthy weight. Reduce your weight gradually if you are overweight or obese.
●   Regular exercise
●   Consume alcohol in moderation.
●   Use prescription drugs as directed.

What are the causes and treatment options for fatty liver disease?
Fatty liver or the process of hepatic steatosis is a pathological condition in which too much fat is stored in liver cells. It is a common condition that lies on a spectrum from mild to severe, and if left untreated can result in liver inflammation, fibrosis, and even liver failure.
Tumblr media
There are two main types of fatty liver disease:
Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: This type of fatty liver disease occurs in individuals who do not consume excessive amounts of alcohol. It is often associated with obesity, insulin resistance (pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes), high blood pressure, and high cholesterol levels. Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease is considered the most common liver disorder in Western countries.
Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: As the name suggests, this type of fatty liver disease is caused by excessive alcohol consumption. The liver metabolizes alcohol, and chronic alcohol abuse can lead to the accumulation of fat in liver cells. Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease can progress to more severe forms of liver damage, including alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis.
Several factors can contribute to the development of fatty liver disease:
Obesity: Excess body weight, particularly abdominal obesity, is a major risk factor for fatty liver disease. It increases the accumulation of fat in the liver and promotes inflammation.
Insulin Resistance and Diabetes: Insulin resistance, a condition in which cells become resistant to the effects of insulin, can lead to increased fat storage in the liver. Type 2 diabetes, which is often associated with insulin resistance, is also a risk factor for fatty liver disease.
High Levels of Triglycerides: Elevated levels of triglycerides (a type of fat) in the blood can contribute to the accumulation of fat in the liver.
Metabolic Syndrome: Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that includes obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and abnormal cholesterol levels. Individuals with metabolic syndrome are at increased risk of developing fatty liver disease.
Certain Medications: Some medications, such as corticosteroids, tamoxifen, and methotrexate, can contribute to the development of fatty liver disease.
Genetic Factors: Genetic factors may predispose some individuals to develop fatty liver disease, although the role of genetics in its development is not fully understood.
Rapid Weight Loss: Rapid weight loss, particularly through crash dieting or bariatric surgery, can lead to the mobilization of fat stores from peripheral tissues, including the liver, resulting in fatty liver disease.
Fatty liver disease is a complicated condition which development involves multifactorial etiology including genetic, metabolic, and lifestyle factors. Therefore, the development of fatty liver a disease is often caused by interplay of different contributing factors
The treatment options for fatty liver disease typically focus on addressing the underlying causes of the condition, reducing liver inflammation, and preventing the progression of liver damage.
Here are some common treatment approaches:
Lifestyle Changes:
Weight Loss: For individuals with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) who are overweight or obese, gradual and sustained weight loss through a combination of diet and exercise is often recommended. Losing as little as 5-10% of body weight can significantly improve liver health and reduce fat accumulation in the liver.
Healthy Diet: Adopting a balanced and nutritious diet low in saturated fats, refined sugars, and processed foods can help reduce liver fat and improve overall metabolic health. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats (such as those found in fish, nuts, and olive oil) is recommended.
Regular Exercise: Engaging in regular physical activity, such as brisk walking, jogging, swimming, or cycling, can help burn excess fat, improve insulin sensitivity, and promote overall liver health.
Medications:
Insulin Sensitizers: Medications such as pioglitazone or metformin, which improve insulin sensitivity, may be prescribed to individuals with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and insulin resistance or diabetes. These medications can help reduce liver fat and inflammation.
Cholesterol-Lowering Medications: Statin medications may be prescribed to individuals with fatty liver disease and high cholesterol levels to help reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications.
Antioxidants: Some studies suggest that antioxidants such as vitamin E may benefit individuals with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a more severe form of fatty liver disease. However, the use of vitamin E for this purpose should be carefully monitored by a healthcare provider due to potential side effects.
Management of Underlying Conditions:
Control of Diabetes and Hypertension: Managing underlying conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure is essential for preventing further liver damage and complications.
Alcohol Moderation or Abstinence: For individuals with alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD), reducing or eliminating alcohol consumption is critical to prevent further liver damage.
Regular Monitoring and Follow-Up:
Individuals diagnosed with fatty liver disease should undergo regular monitoring to assess liver function, liver enzymes, and other relevant markers of liver health. This allows healthcare providers to track disease progression, adjust treatment as needed, and intervene promptly if complications arise.
In some cases, individuals with advanced liver disease or complications of fatty liver disease may require specialized care, including referral to hepatologists (liver specialists) or consideration for liver transplantation.
The fatty liver treatment in Bangalore is multifaceted and often involves a combination of lifestyle modifications, medications, and management of underlying conditions. The primary goals of treatment are to improve liver health, prevent disease progression, and reduce the risk of complications.
The topic of liver care is just for your knowledge purposes. If you want to get treatment and a diagnosis for fatty liver disease, you have to contact liver care specialists or visit hospitals.

- ED trigger warning -
Being skinny ruined my life. If you’re thin and think to yourself, “why don’t fat people just lose weight?” Please read this
I was the “ideal fat” in the sense that I did everything skinny people wanted me to do. I tried every diet in the book. I exercised regularly. I worked with doctors and dietitians to figure out the best way to lose weight. But nothing worked. I did everything “right” to lose weight, and my weight stayed the same
But the thin people in my life kept telling me that I wouldn’t be happy, attractive, healthy, etc. until I lost weight. So, heartbroken, I came to the conclusion that anorexia was the only option left. It felt safer than bariatric surgery, and was obviously much more affordable
I became the perfect anorexic. 700 cal a day or less, except once a week I allowed myself 1400 cal. For reference, my body required at least 2800 to maintain weight, and at least 1800 to keep my organs and stuff fully functioning. Still, 700 a day, I persisted because everyone in my life told me weight loss was all that mattered. If dieting didn’t work, anorexia had to
And it did. My weight dropped all the way down to 110 pounds. I was skinny - underweight, even - in all sense of the word. The people in my life saw it as a miracle. The ultimate success story. My mother, my “friends,” my doctors, they all congratulated me on my accomplishment
When I confessed my eating disorder to my doctor, he told me, “that’s not the best way to go about it, but I’m glad you lost the weight.” My mother took pictures of me and sent them to relatives to brag
Okay, great. I was skinny. I did what I set out to do. But there were severe consequences
The most obvious was my joint pain doubled, maybe even tripled, to the point that I couldn’t leave the house without a wheelchair
I also developed several health complications, including fatty liver disease and extremely painful GERD. I had to see a handful of specialists and get an endoscopy because of severe stomach pain
My partner, who was the only person who saw my weight loss for what it was (a horrible thing that only happened because of an eating disorder), convinced me to enter a recovery program
For nearly a year, I relearned how to feed myself. I ate everything I was told to eat, nothing more and nothing less. My diet was 100% in the hands of somebody else
And I gained back every pound I has lost. All of the work to become thin went right out the window. It was proven to me that thinness and health were incompatible with my body. If I wanted to be thin, I had to forgo my physical and mental well-being. And vise-versa
Prior to the anorexia, I never once struggled with binge eating. I was naturally an intuitive eater, and I did a good job of having a well rounded diet. After the anorexia, after recovery, I developed a binge eating disorder. I had spent so long starving myself, that my brain and body got stuck in survival mode, desperate to consume any and all calories out of fear that I might starve again. To this day I struggle with binge eating
I did everything thin people wanted of me. I dieted. I exercised. And when all else failed, I starved myself. Now I have liver disease, stomach issues, and BED. Not to mention the loads of mental issues that accumulated as a result of my weight loss journey. During the throes of my anorexia, I had to be hospitalized for suicidal ideation
When you tell fat people to “just lose weight” you are suggesting they give themselves illnesses for which treatments are not always effective. You are asking fat people to destroy their stomachs and livers. When a fat person loses so much weight that they become skinny, they are likely giving up so much of their health in efforts to be treated like a human being
If you’re thin, do your part. Treat fat people like people before we tear our bodies apart

His main areas of interest include biliary disorders, liver diseases and pancreatic disorders. The liver is a major organ that produces protein and metabolizes nutrients into chemicals that are essential to life. This organ plays a very important role in our bodies, so it is a good idea to consult an expert when it comes to diagnosing and treating a liver problem.
One of the many diseases that affect the liver is ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis is a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which is a disorder of the lining of the large intestine. It is often associated with pain, nausea, and diarrhea. Some patients may experience constipation as well.
Another important function of the liver is producing blood clotting. This organ also performs other important tasks such as producing proteins and iron metabolism. So if you are suffering from any of the above mentioned symptoms, it's a good idea to consult a gastroenterologist immediately.
The KP-3P model is a useful and systematic approach to determining whether or not a person suffers from IBD. The acronym stands for the three phases of diagnosis - provocation, resuscitation and prevention.
There are a variety of tests and procedures that can be administered in order to determine whether or not someone has IBD. However, this is not an exhaustive list.
If you are looking for a stomach specialist in Hyderabad or any gastric problem you can always visit the clinic of Dr. Kiran Peddi.
