Savoy Hotel Boracay Opens Its Doors Once Again in Boracay Newcoast
Now that the pandemic is finally over, Bocaray island is back as being one of the best tourist spots in the world. We had a very fun weekend trip to Boracay last week as we rediscovered this “hidden” spot where you can get a private picnic by the beach with the Boracay Keyhole as your enchanting backdrop. Thanks to Boracay Newcoast, this pristine location is now easily accessible to travelers without having to spend too much of your budget.
As we get back on our travel feet, Savoy Hotel Boracay in Boracay Newcoast has finally reopened its doors after a brief hiatus during the last two years. Savoy Boracay opened in 2017, part of Megaworld Hotels and Resorts’ portfolio of regional hotels featuring 100% Filipino homegrown brands. The Hungry Kat was invited for a three-day, two-night vacation at Savoy Boracay to sample the amenities and all the island activities you can do in this private enclave.
Our experience actually started right at the Caticlan Airport where we were picked up for our private transfers to Savoy Boracay. Guests can arrange these land and sea transfers with the hotel for a flat fee and everything will be taken care of right until you are brought to the hotel lobby.
Savoy Boracay features 559 beautifully-decorated rooms which offer an embodiment of high island living standards. The hotel features 4 room types that offer the perfect spot for cooling down and relaxing after a day out in the sun. Best of all, room rates at Savoy Boracay are quite affordable with rates starting at just around P4000+ a night.
We stayed at their 55-square meter Executive Suite which is a fitting choice for those who enjoy lavish space. This corner suite comes with a queen-sized bed that opens up to fantastic views of the neighboring Fairways and Bluewater golf course or the Newport Beach.
We were given welcome drinks at the lobby as well as these chocolate treats inside our suite. These are highly appreciated especially after a long journey. We even got this cute stuffed toy which I gladly brought back home with me.
The Executive Suite comes with a separate living area which comes with its own LED TV and also its own bathroom. That’s plenty of room and space especially if you have kids and family together. A refrigerator plus coffee and tea making facilities are also available inside the living room.
A great feature of Savoy Boracay is that all the rooms come with their own private balcony so you can enjoy the fresh air and the fantastic views around Boracay Newcoast. (Read: Boracay Newcoast - The Island’s New Travel Destination). This expansive property on the other side of Boracay is a prestigious new development from Megaworld Corporation and Global Estate Resorts offering a different experience of the island, farther from the busy crowds and resorts at White Beach.
There are many activities and places to see inside the hotel and around Boracay Newcoast. Savoy Boracay offers several complimentary tours around the neighborhood including a visit to the nearby Keyhole Boracay. Access to the beautiful Cove beaches and use of kayak and paddle boards are also included. Savoy Boracay is also just next door to Belmont Boracay, which we visited last year, so you have two hotels to choose from for your stay at Boracay Newcoast.
Of course, there are plenty of things to do within the hotel itself. There’s a foosball machine right at the lobby to welcome guests. You can also schedule other island activities around Boracay at the tourist desk here.
Gym buffs can hang out at the Fitness Center on the lower ground floor. They also offer massages and body treatments at the Lila Spa beside the gym.
The main highlight of Savoy Boracay is that they don’t just have one, but two huge pools right in the middle of the hotel. Take a dip with the family or take some gorgeous photos by the bridge.
On the other side is the Party Pool where you can enjoy a splashing good time with your friends. Enjoy the sun while relaxing at the pool lounges or take a nap inside one of the cabanas.
In the evenings, the party pool takes on a different vibe and ambiance. Grab some cocktails at the Chambery Pool Bar while enjoying the night sky. They even have foam pool parties during weekends.
While Boracay Newcoast may be a bit far from the main Boracay beaches, guests staying at Savoy can easily get to D’Mall in Station 2 along White Beach through the complimentary shuttle services offered by the hotel. Just reserve your seats at the front desk and join the scheduled trips.
Our room also comes with daily buffet breakfast for two at Savoy Cafe on the ground floor from 6:00am to 10:00am. Savoy Cafe offers several culinary options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in casual and special dining concepts. It also offers private room dining and an open kitchen showcase.
You can sit wherever you like inside the bright and spacious restaurant. It also offers views of the Savoy pool just outside.
We started our breakfast with some breads and pastries. There is also a salad bar for those who like to start their mornings on a healthy note.
Cereals and fresh milk are available together with juices and hot coffee for refreshments.
I always like having eggs and omelette for breakfast so I had one prepared for me at the Egg Station. Here you can also find some pancakes plus ham and egg sandwiches.
Filipinos like their breakfasts heavy so Savoy also prepares rice and viands for their guests. There were several dishes to go along with our fried rice including fish fillet, bratwurst, orange chicken, baked beans, chopseuy, pancit, and more.
For desserts, we enjoyed some mini chocolate cakes to go along with puto, fruits, and other delicacies.
The best place to visit at Boracay Newcoast is their very own Newcoast Beach which offers a fantastic view of the Boracay Keyhole. At the center of this one-kilometer white beach is an expansive grand plaza called Newcoast Station where you can find food stalls, tables, day beds, and other activities to do. There’s also a daily happy hour at the Newcoast Beach Bar from 3:00pm to 5:00pm where guests can get 50% off on their favorite cocktail drinks.
The beach itself offers a calmer and more tranquil side of Boracay. This area is actually open to the public but is mostly accessible to guests staying at the hotels in the area. We even saw a beach wedding happening right here during our stay. It’s just a short walk from Savoy and Belmont Boracay so we headed here early one morning for a totally unique experience.
Savoy Boracay presented us with a private Sunrise Picnic by the beach just for the two of us. Instead of the usual breakfast at the cafe, they prepared this set breakfast for two with this stunning backdrop.
We enjoyed a sumptuous selection of beef tapa, danggit, sausages, bacon, potatoes, pancakes, donuts, cinnamon rolls, and fruits together with hot chocolate. We’ve never had a picnic by the beach before so this was such a memorable moment for us. Guests at Savoy Boracay can also experience this Sunrise Picnic for themselves starting March 15 for only P1300 per person.
We couldn’t leave this beautiful location without taking a few more Instagram-worthy photos. It’s like having your very own private resort in Boracay without having to spend a lot. You should also make sure to get a closer look at The Keyhole. This natural rock formation is a majestic sight to behold from the beach cove, but it gets even better when you see it up close.
We would like to thank Nico Ivan Velazquez, Group Director of Public Relations of Megaworld Hotels and Resorts, as well as Nichie Torres, Director of Sales and Marketing at Savoy Boracay, Jesse Ray Lazaro, and the rest of the Savoy staff for taking care of us during our stay. Savoy Hotel Boracay is destined to be the next big summer destination for families, barkadas, and corporate guests who want a place in Boracay to call their own. It's gonna be a happy summer!

DAY 9: Goodbye Sendai, Reporting Session, and Farewell Dinner.
Abdel: At the train station looking for post cards to send to friends in the Philippines, I saw a blind Japanese young fellow with a cane waking along the the specially marked and perforated lines for the blind. Our facilitator Somasan told us that these are common all over Japan - these yellow lines not just on train platforms but bus stops and sidewalks. I pointed this out to Dadah who was with me and both of us were impressed at the sight, especially when he made a left turn and then went down a flight of stairs to the level below. Even on platforms, there are marks for them to gauge the safe distance to stand from the edge. *In Tokyo, I felt all of us were very happy with lunch at The OVen American Buffet, which was eat all you can and full of recognizable food that we are used to back home. I thought this was a nice touch to transition back to meals in our own respective countries, although we knew that we were going to miss the Japanese meals we also have liked. The view was also astounding. *Before going up to the reporting sessions, Anya and I had time to send the postcards I recently bought. The drop your mail in a mailbox does not work in the Philippines but in Japan, we just dropped the postcards after putting stamps. I should have done it earlier in the trip, but sending postcards from a country visited should always be done once one is in a foreign country. *There was an android receptionist at the mall that was capable of answering questions from anybody. She looked Japanese too. *The farewell ceremony was a good time for people to mingle with delegations from other country. We took this opportunity to give out our tokens and souvenirs and took snapshots of the beautiful persons from other countries. Haha I joined Roy, Norshida, Dadah, Joan in doing these, and the last three standing were Roy Norshida and I. I sensed that most of the delegates were much like us Filipinos in terms of keeping to our group but once there is a stranger who is going to talk, there is always a welcome smile to greet back. They loved that we were taking pictures with them. *I was proud of the Filipino delegation who looked all Filipino in the barong tagalogs and maria claras. What better way to show national pride in a gathering of different countries. Some countries also looked very fabulous in their national attires, and to see them up close being worn by an actual national is better than a Filipino wearing them during Linggo ng Wika or ASEAN Week. A bit disappointed  for other countries that did not bring any cultural attire. But all in all, everyone had fun!
Anya: Today is technically our last day in the program and JICE had made it entirely enjoyable. As soon as we got back to Tokyo, they took us to Odaiba to have lunch. We ate at The Oven, which was an American buffet place. They reserved the perfect spot for us. Our seat overlooked the Odaiba Statue of Liberty and the Rainbow Bridge. This perfect view (plus the good food) put us in complete awe of Japan’s beauty.
During the reporting, we were finally able to hear from the delegates who went to other prefectures. Just like our group, they had this notion that Japan was this technologically advanced country where everything functioned efficiently. Our respective trips validated this perception of Japan. However, it added up facts about the preserved culture of Japan, the aging society, and the country’s relationship with the ASEAN countries. After the reporting, a farewell party was held for the delegates. It was emphasized since the beginning of the program that this wasn’t just about Japan; this was a multicultural experience. I was totally admiring the presence of all the delegates. At this point almost everyone was in their national clothes. I agreed with what my friend said: “Asia is so colorful.” The cultural presentation made the event much more alive. There was dancing and singing, and everyone was showcasing the lively side of their delegation. We also exchanged token from our home countries, which gave some information of what they had back home. Later on, we checked in the Hotel Emion for the night. Our room had a balcony overlooking the streets of Urayasu. From that spot we were lucky to watch the fireworks from Tokyo Disney Sea, making the night extra special. Tonight I felt totally blissful. I grateful to JICE for giving us this opportunity and to NYC for selecting me to be part of the program. Excited to go home tomorrow!
Blessy: Traveling back to Tokyo made me thank Sendai for letting us experience large amount of snow. During the bullet train ride, it was an opportunity for me to withdraw sleep and recharge for the reporting session and farewell party in the afternoon.
In the reporting session, delegates from other ASEAN countries were also present. By looking at the crowd, i could say that the Japanese government is really spending that much in this kind of programs. This made me think that they are really serious in having partnerships (trade, business, tourism, etc) among the ASEAN countries.
Christian: Today is the day we head back to Tokyo for the program’s culminating activities. We had an early breakfast at the hotel. We then proceeded to the JR Sendai Station for our Shinkansen trip again back to the capital city. After our arrival in Tokyo, we headed to Odaiba for a great lunch. After an hour of looking at various shops, we headed to the Time 24 Building for the presentation.
During the reporting session, each group was given 8 minutes to present their knowledge of Japan prior to the program, their learnings during the trip, and their proposed action plans that each group wants to implement after returning to their respective countries. The presentations each country gave was an exhibition of great ideas that I think is essential in communicating Japan to their home countries, with the hopes of replicating Japan’s success in development.  After the activity, we headed to the building’s 11th floor for the farewell party. During that moment, the participants had a great time eating, taking pictures, and socializing with other delegates. Our group also presented song and dance performances each country has prepared, centering on the theme of love. With that, we performed Leah Navarro’s “Isang Mundo, Isang Awit” in front of the international audience. We also enjoyed watching the performances of other countries. Afterwards, we exchanged cards with other delegates and gave small tokens to those who joined us in this journey.  The program has officially ended and in this day, we had to say a lot of goodbyes. Parting may be painful, but I believe that this may not yet be the end of it. It is my personal hope that these connections and relationships we have established during the program would truly last.
Crismer: 1. In today's closing program, I realized that I really never got the chance to interact with other delegates from other nations aside from Thailand and Singapore. How I wish that the program will be redesigned to provide ample time to have that interaction.
 2. The program was about immersing in Japan, the people and their culture. I hope in the next batches, they can include as well youth delegates from Japan itself. While we were able to learn the Japanese culture through the different visits including our interactions with our guides, the dialogues and interaction with the Japanese youth will allow us to gauge as well the future of Japan.
3. Lastly, all the learnings presented by all groups are spot on. I hope that JICE and MOFA will find these learnings useful for the betterment and improvement of Japan. The action plan presented are clear and tangible as well. May JICE support these to ensure they will be executed?
Dada: It’s our last whole day in Japan. In the morning, we are scheduled to travel for Tokyo. (A bus ride to Sendai Station, a train to Tokyo and another bus ride to Odaiba). While waiting for the train to arrive at the station, we took the opportunity to take more pictures. On the way to Odaiba, the participants are in awe of the Tokyo Bay and the amazing edifices of Tokyo. We were taken to a fabulous buffet resto with a nice view of Odaiba. We ate until we’re full and strolled the mall. We also met the robot receptionist that I once saw on TV news. Then, we were transported to a nearby government office where the group presentations were held. All the delegations in their national costumes were present for the activity. Each groups’ well-prepared presentation had showcased their own experience in Japan with other activities located in other prefectures. Moreover, I could infer that the delegates’ expectations on Japan prior to JENESYS does not quite stray far from the actual. Japan was, indeed, a technologically advanced country.
After the presentation was the farewell party/ closing program in which groups showcased their meaningful cultural presentations. The party was wonderful and happy amidst the diversity of cultures. We had the chance to interact with foreign delegates and to individually thank our coordinators.
When the party was over, we head to the Emion Hotel near the Tokyo Bay. In the bus, each country representative of group C gave a farewell massage to Sohma-san. We also bid farewell to our Thai and Singaporean groupmates. We head to our hotel room to prepare for our flight the next day.
Darren: If I were to describe Day 9 using one word, I would say this one's the BEST. It was early morning when we moved to Sendai Station to ride Shinkansen once again. We had our lunch at The Oven: American Buffet located in Odaiba. Aside from the great food served in the restaurant, I really enjoyed the majestic view of the Statue of Liberty's replica, which is originally located in New York City. Right after eating, we went to Time 24 for the reporting session.
During the presentation, we were given a chance to share our knowledge, perspective, findings, and learnings all throughout the JENESYS 2016 program to other delegates of the other countries. In general, the delegates from Thailand, Singapore, and Philippines from Group C agreed that most of our impressions in Japan (prime destination of investment, steadfast economy, punctuality and cleanliness, ageing population, advanced technology and developed country, and exquisite culture) were true and all of these were validated when we had cultural trips in our respective prefectures.  After the reporting session, we had our farewell party with the organizers and the other delegates. I consider this event as one of the most memorable moment in my life. Watching the cultural performances and exchanging tokens with different countries made me want to study culture even more! The program might end here but one thing's for sure - we will always look back to this moment and eminently, the friendships we've built with Japan and ASEAN countries continue to grow as well.
Grace:  Sayonara Sendai.
Haiku: Sendai, my new love Four days was more than enough Treasure you for life.  Leaving you (Sendai) was difficult but I needed to move on. I came to you by riding on the fast, safe and reliable Shinkansen and I left you using the same transportation.  We ate our lunch at The Oven American Buffet, and I must say it was the sugoi-est lunch I had during the program. Food was very oishi plus the amazing view of Odaiba, it seems like we're eating in one of the restaurants in New York.  We headed to Time 24 for the group presentations. The representatives by each group presented their expectations, learning, observations and information that they got all throughout the 9-day program. Also they presented the action plans on how to disseminate the learning and how to always get connected with the fellow delegates.  In the evening was the farewell party. All Batch 6 delegates were gathered in one hall, tossed and ate together. Groups also shared their talents thru singing and dancing. We did not miss the last minutes to give some tokens of friendship to the friends we've met. We shared business cards to keep in touch with each other. Indeed, it was a wonderful night.
Ian: Day 9: For the last day of the program, we have to return to Tokyo. Again, we have to ride the Shinkansen (bullet train) to be able to return to Tokyo for a short time. I finally bid goodbye to the beautiful city of Sendai. Even though it is already my second time to ride the bullet train, I was still amazed by it. Upon arriving on Tokyo, I was able to feel the difference in weather. It was warmer compared to Sendai. In the bus, our facilitators shared some facts about the Odaiba, including the Statue of Liberty situated in Odaiba. We had our lunch in a shopping center in Odaiba. The first thing that welcomed us in the shopping center was the animatronics in the information center. I was amazed with the technology they come up with. The lunch was really good and it made me so satisfied. We were given a time to roam around in the shopping center and I did not miss the opportunity to buy souvenirs for my family and friends.  The final part of the program is the reporting session which will be held on Time 24 Building. When we arrived on the venue, we quickly changed to our traditional attire. It was a beautiful view to see people from different countries wearing their traditional clothes. There is really beauty in diversity. Representative of JICE and Ambassador of Myanmar also graced the event. Representatives of India, Cambodia, Myanmar, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand and Philippines presented all our knowledge about Japan before the program, our experiences and learnings and of course, our action plans. Most of us already know the culture and technology of Japan before the program but were further enhanced by experiencing it through the program. I have also inferred that all our plans are rooted in increasing efforts to intensify people’s awareness in Japan and encourage our fellow countrymen to visit this beautiful country. I can say that all of the action plans prepared by different countries are well-thought of. After the reporting session, the certificate of completion were awarded to us. We were also able to socialize with fellow participants from different countries. After having short conversations, we went were asked to proceed to the 11th floor where the farewell party will take place. I was astounded since there are more people, 261 participants from 12 different countries, to be exact. The representative of JICE had a short closing remarks then initiated a toast. After the toast, we had our delicious dinner and also a cultural presentation took place. We were able to listen to the songs, watch the dances and observe the traditional attire of different countries. It was a fun-filled moment for all of us. After the performances, we had short conversations with fellow participants and even though just for a short time, we were able to build friendship. We exchanged tokens and calling cards and finally, bid goodbye to each other. I also waved goodbye to my beloved facilitators. This made me sad because I realized that the JENESYS 2016: Batch 5 program already concluded. We then proceeded to our hotel and packed our bags for the last time as we will be returning to our own country early morning tomorrow.
Jerm: As the program header for a close, we finally got the time to look back and reflect on everything we have learned for the duration of Jenesys. Not only were we immersed into Japanese culture, we also learned the concepts and structures of economic institutions in the country. During the presentation, we were given the chance to share our learnings to the delegates of the other countries. Most of our perceptions were true about Japan – having high-technology, great food and disciplined citizens. We were also able to discover the Japanese people's high regard for culture and tradition and the fact that they do not have to be sacrificed for progress. To add to that, Japan was also the symbol of responsible and sustainable development having shown that they could be progressive without having to destroy the environment. The reporting was a wonderful time as it highlighted individual lessons from each country and I believe that's the essence of JENESYS – to integrate all these countries within one vision: progress. The program ended on a high note with the farewell dinner party where each group showcased their presentations. It was also difficult to finally say goodbye to the other delegates we've become close to and become friends with. The 9 days we have spent together will never be forgotten because these good memories will live on.
Joan: We rode the Shinkansen (Tohoku line) in going back to Tokyo. I slept most of the trip as I am feeling a little bit lonely as the program is nearing its end. Although everybody has different personalities, I have already learned to love them (Aww). I just wish to know more about them and hopefully see them again in the future. We had lunch at the Oven located in the Aqua City Mall in Odaiba- a large artificial island in Tokyo and had the best view of the mini statue of liberty and the Rainbow Bridge from Central Tokyo. My friend Norsh got to try a money changer atm and bought a polaroid camera in the Sega or gaming center. A magokoroid woman was one of the customer assistants in that mall. As usual, we had last minute shopping at Daiso Japan for small stuffs like pens and notebooks.
We arrived at Time 24 and immediately changed into our Filipiniana attire for the reporting. The room was full of excitement and energy as each group reported their findings and discussions in a very limited time. Each country group was profound in their expectations, learnings, and action plans after the program. A representative from each group was tasked to receive their certificate of participation together with their ambassadors.
What a better way to end and part ways was through a standing farewell party. The best sushi and maki were served, we had juices and soda for the ceremonial toast. Each country presented dances or song for the entertainment. We even joined in some dances. It was also a great time to give tokens of gratitude to our coordinators and we also exchanged cards with other country delegates. Mostly we enjoyed taking pictures with them and wished each one a happy and safe trip back home.
It was energy draining for an introvert like me but I did enjoy a lot. I just hate goodbyes and loud noises (a little).
Juliet: This day highlights the presentation of learnings and action plan of each group delegation, showcase of talents of the delegates, and farewell party.Hearing the presentation indeed proved the mind and ingenuity of the young people. In general, the learnings obtained during the entire program focus on environmental protection, economic advancement, culture, innovation, advanced technology, strong collaboration, societal systems, and social problems besetting Japan such as aging society. Meanwhile, the action plans presented cover activities such as disseminating these learnings and realizations about Japan to respective countries, building friendship and camaraderie among countries, bridging each country's economic agency and businesses to Japan, and deepening discussions and education about Japan and its culture and economy.
Having lighter time with the delegates during the farewell party, the friendship and camaraderie built between and among the young people of the ASEAN region made the night meaningful. The rich culture of each countries was also displayed through the delegates' dances, songs, and fashion show of national costumes.Truly, the delegates did not only open their hearts to Japan but to the ASEAN as well.
June: Calling this day as good would be an understatement. It was amazing! We had our lunch at a restaurant that had a view of a replica of the Statue of Liberty and the horizon beyond it. It was indeed a spectacle.
Moving on the the group presentations wherein we were able to share what we learned from the program was not only reflective but also very informative since we were also able to hear from others as well. The content and delivery of all the groups were excellent. Ending it all with the farewell party was a blast! Interacting will all the other groups participating in the program allowed us to understand one another more, create more connections, and give our last goodbyes to one another. It a night full of memories.
Love: On Day 9, the team travelled to Tokyo for the reporting session to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Group B (The Philippines, Singapore and Thailand) along with the Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Laos Delegates presented their findings, impressions and action plans which were highlights of the presentation. One of the action plans of the Group B delegates, specifically the Philippines, is the conduct of the National Youth Forum. Details of this proposed activity will be discussed by the Philippine delegates and will update the NYC and JICE about its progress. The JENESYS Program is about to end on this day. Delegates from all participating countries convened in the training hall to celebrate the success of the JENESYS Program. As part of the closing ceremony, delegates from different countries performed a cultural presentation while wearing their traditional costumes. Dinner was served at the venue. Authentic Japanese cuisines were served and everyone enjoyed the night. I know the JENESYS program was about to end but the experience and learnings/information garnered from this experience was truly a very great one. For youth like me, this program was able to establish networks, build connections, meet new friends and find new family.
Nina: Last day of activities for the JENESYS program and we're bound to Tokyo. After having lunch at a nice restaurant with an awesome view (and desserts), we were able to look around the place, then some shopping, and start preparing for our presentation in the afternoon. The delegation was divided into two groups for the presentation. Our group was supposed to be the first to present but we ended up presenting last. Everybody did a great job with their ideas and outputs! You could see that the JENESYS program taught us and made us experience Japan, real firsthand. I second the statement when one presenter thought that kimonos are Japanese's daily wear, where everybody walks around wearing it. Funny, because I thought the same too! The presentations mostly revolved around Japan's high technology, preserved culture and hospitality. Our presentation, I believe, was good, structured and well-prepared. Kuya Cris, Jon, and P did a great job presenting it clearly - good speakers, indeed. The presentation focused in targeting different types of audiences (general public, youth, and those who are interested in cross-cultural studies) to share and explain what we have learned from the trip and what Japan is based in what we have experienced during the program.  Finally, as we officially end the JENESYS program, we had a farewell party together with all the delegates from different countries as well as the JICE coordinators. It was a night full of performances, photos, and "see you soons". I'll miss everyone, really. Hoping that the friendships we've made during the program would last! Ended our day figuring out how to pack all our stuff, card games, and ramen ❤
Norshida: Day 9 Today our amazing race begins with the bus taking us to the Shinkansen Bullet Train Station started at 7:25 am. I just don’t know what too feel today, I’m feeling so emotional. I already love staying in Sendai not because of the snow but because of the people, food and the system they have. For now, I‘m planning to come back together with my family. Aside from enjoying the ride with the Shinkansen Bullet Train, I really appreciate the timeliness of the Japanese People. We travelled at exactly 9:00 am going to Tokyo and arrive at exactly 11:55 am in Odaiba, Tokyo. We also had our very delicious lunch at The Oven Buffet wherein I was amazed with the view outside as if I was seeing the real Statue of Liberty in New York, but it was only a replica as per Soma-san said it was given by the British Council to Japan. After our lunch, we go directly to Time 24 to begin presenting our workshops in which Mark-san Velasco presented for our group and so with Thailand and Singapore Delegates they also have their presenter. Finally, we have our emotional farewell party. It pained me, saying “Arigatu Gozaimasu” and “Sayonara” to our JICE Coordinator wherein I could applause them for being so patient and caring and of course with our co-delegates from ASEAN countries wherein we established great friendships. I have given token of friendship hoping they will not forget us. And start exchanging business card and lots of pictures for us to really not forget them. It was a blissful but emotional night for me.
Rea: Today is our last day before we go back to our own countries. Today is also the day we have to bid our goodbyes to the beautiful place of Sendai. Today’s highlight is the presentation made by each group. During this presentation, each group presented what they have learned during the JENESYS program and what will be their action plans after the program. We did not only enjoy our stay in Japan but also learned insightful lessons that can be useful for the country. Japan’s culture, economic advancement, high regards with the research and development, and strong industry-university collaboration are just some of the learnings we had during this program. Despite having advanced technologies and sustainable development, Japan still protects their environment. Most of our action plans focus on strengthening the relationship with the other JENESYS batch 5 delegates, and expanding the Japanese culture and economy in our own country through forums, seminars, etc.  The JENESYS program was ended by having a farewell party together with all the delegates from the different countries where we showcased our talents, and built connections and friendships with all the delegates.

DAY 1: DESERT SAFARI EXPERIENCE
Tumblr media
Who would go to Dubai and not try the most sought-after desert safari adventure? If you check online you could see lots of tourist agencies offering desert safari packages which includes myriad of exciting activities such as dune bashing, camel riding, quad biking, henna painting, watching live performances of fire acts, traditional tanoura and belly dancing, and a sumptuous dinner buffet. Though I already had an experience of quadbiking in a desert before (Red Sand Riyadh), the extras made me thrilled enough to try out this one of a kind experience.
We haven’t had enough time to go to the city centers and look for travel/ tour agencies, but fortunately, we found out that Eureka Hotel also arranges desert safari tours. So we immediately inquired in the hotel’s reception and booked for the trip before it’s too late. Meanwhile, we we’re tired and starving from our long travel and had to fill our empty stomach,so we asked if we could take the menu of the hotel’s restaurant. The foods were quite expensive and couldn’t possibly satiate our appetite (mostly PAK food, if you know what I mean :D) so we were having a second thought of ordering. Good thing, our “kabayan” staff in the reception was kind enough to inform us that there is one Filipino restaurant nearby and is only few walks away from our hotel.
So, it was few minutes before 3PM and we were in a hurry to go back since we were informed that the service will pick us up anytime between 1430H and 1500H. When we arrived, the driver was already sitting and waiting in the lobby. We asked if they could allow us 5 minutes to prep the things that we need to bring (of course we couldn’t leave our GoPro and DSLR coz we know there will be lots of photography opportunities coming). It was sharp 1500H when we started heading straight to the sultry desert of Dubai with a cozy, yet robust 4x4 land cruiser which can accommodate about 7 to 8 people. Our driver was a Pakistani guy in his mid-30s, and his placid disposition made him quite intimidating on my first impression. As we went along the way, two more groups of people were fetched from their accommodation; we were with three Armenian girls and two Pakistani ladies inside the car. As we arrived at the desert area, we were first pulled over at a place which seemed like a small park with various souvenir shops and ATV rides. My friend, Aireen, couldn’t contain her excitement and was very eager to try out the quad bike but to her disappointment, it wasn’t included in the package and worse, it costs about 150 AED for an hour ride. So we just took the time to roam around the place and snap some pictures.
DUNE BASHING
After spending about 30 minutes, we hopped back to our car and resumed the travel through the desert. Before we knew it, our 4x4 land cruiser was already pulling off the highway into an unmarked section of the sand dunes. The driver, who we first thought of as quiet and serious-type person, got a little bit loquacious and energetic, probably because he’ll get to show off his skills with the most interesting and thrilling part of the tour, dune bashing! Sooner, he joined with a couple dozen of other 4x4s at this secluded desert location with striking golden dunes, and the ride got a little crazy wild! He further complemented the experience with a loud Arabic and English music. The dune bashing lasted for approximately 30 minutes which seemed like forever to me. It almost made me throw up! The cars then started to slow down and congregated around a small valley. From this vantage point, we witnessed a spectacular panoramic view of the desert and the impressive sunset – one of the best things I’ve ever seen! After few minutes of soaking in and capturing the scenic view, we hopped back to the car and resumed with the outdoor adventure. But wait—does it mean another half an hour of desert roller coaster again? Oh yes! I just prayed I could still handle more of it, and thank God I did.
Tumblr media
Sunset in the desert.
CAMEL RIDING
At around 1900H, we finally sojourned to a desert campsite, where live performances take place. But before anything else, we took the opportunity to ride a camel. Since this is free as included in the package, people were lining up and taking their turns. Having a leisurely ride on a real camel is very fascinating. I felt like I am one of those who live in the ancient near east.
THE CAMP SITE: TRADITIONAL DANCE SHOWS +DINNER BUFFET
After an insane and tiring day of outdoor fun and adventure, we capped it off with an entertainment from Tanoura performers inside the campsite. The first show was a fire act, but unfortunately,we weren’t able to watch it since we were still busy repeatedly taking turns in camel riding (for like a 100th times >.
The night wrapped up and we were all knackered so we retreated quickly to the car to meet our driver. The ride back to our hotel was a blur between dozing off a little and watching the blurring highway lights. I just couldn’t wait to reunite with my bed. We arrived to our hotel at around 2300H, sat in a massage chair for a minute and eventually retired to my bed for sleep. First day in Dubai well spent!
Just a little overview of the things included in the Desert Safari Package (150 AED):
1.       30 minute dune bashing
2.       Camel riding
3.       Sunset Photography opportunities
4.       Arabian costume fitting
5.       Sisha/water pipe
6.       Henna Tattoo
7.       Live performances (Fire Act, Tanoura Traditional Dance, Belly Dance)
8.       Barbecue Buffet
9.       Unlimited drinks
However, not everything on the campsite is part of the package you paid for. Other things you should be aware of:
1.       AVR/ATV Riding is not free (150-200 AED)
2.       Henna painting is only free for a limited time. (I’m not sure of the time, but I guess you need to avail it as soon as you arrive to the campsite; we had our hands tattooed after the live shows and unfortunately, we were not able to have it for free. It costs 10-25 AED depending on the design you wanted).
3.       Photography session with falcons/ eagles do have extra cost. (15AED)
4.       You could buy photos from photographers in the campsite. (e.g. while camel riding; two A4 sized photos cost 50 AED)
5.       Not all costumes are free for fitting. (Never tried one so I don’t know how much.)
6.       Only water pipes at the Sisha corner are included in the package. Ordering Sisha to your dining table has extra costs.
7.       Fasten your seat belts and hold on tight while dune bashing.
8.       Never miss out the live performances from start to end. Grab your seats immediately as close as possible to the stage where the view is perfect. The campsite will sooner get crowded as more people are coming.

Misibis Bay: My Tropical Island Paradise (Part 2)
During my first visit to the exotic island paradise of Misibis Bay Resort three years ago, I stayed and explored several of their luxury villas and was quite content just staying in bed all day and eating my way around the resort. This time, after checking in at their new and zesty Pacific View Wing (Read: Misibis Bay Introduces Colorful and Upbeat Pacific View Wing), I could really feel the energetic and modern vibe of the resort, so I decided to step outside my beautiful seaside room and experience the many sports and water activities Misibis Bay has to offer.
But before all that, the best way to start an eventful day at Misibis Bay is with their buffet breakfast which is served daily from 6:00am to 9:30am at Spice Market, the resort’s all-day restaurant and cafe. This is usually included in their various accomodation packages, with some that even include full-board meals. So I woke up early the next morning, stepped outside my balcony to feel the gentle ocean breeze on my face, and got ready to fuel up for the many activities lined up for me that day.
Spice Market comes with a casual and friendly ambiance during the day, especially with its high ceilings and bright natural lighting. It also serves an all-day a la carte menu, with buffet offerings during weekends and holidays. Bringing in outside food is not allowed in Misibis Bay, but everything you need will be available at the restaurant.
Breakfast starts with assorted breads and jams which you can also have toasted if you like. The egg station lets you choose from sunny side up, scrambled, or omelettes and these will be prepared right in front of you. I had them cook a pair of fried eggs for me which I like putting on top of my rice.
Freshly-made pancakes and waffles are also available for those who like American-style breakfasts instead of local dishes.
I prefer having a big savoury breakfast so I got some of the Papel de Liempo, deep fried slices of pork belly which are a crispier version of the bacon. I also added the beef tapa and fish fillet on my plate together with a cup of hot chocolate.
Fresh fruits and juices plus a few desserts are also included in the breakfast buffet. Now isn’t that a great way to start the day?
But for those mornings when you find it so hard to leave your soft and fluffy bed, one glamorous option is to have your breakfast come to you with Breakfast in Bed! Spice Market also offers Room Sevice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner which is just a call away.
I ordered the Filipino Breakfast (P616) which has a choice of Angus Beef Tapa and bangus or Longanisa and dried fish. This is served with steamed or garlic rice and two eggs served however you like. I also added a cup of Hot Chocolate (P161) to complete my meal.
Now it’s time to make the most of my stay in this gorgeous resort and explore the many activities that are available. Of course, the first thing to do is to take as many photos and selfies as you can, and it’s so easy with backdrops as beautiful as these.
Being a private resort, it really feels like I have the entire beach all to myself. I can just enjoy sitting on the sand in my bikini and frolicking in the waters of Misibis Bay. Taking bikini photos can get a bit awkward when I stay at city hotels and other busy resorts, but here at Misibis Bay, I can find my own private corner of the beach and bring out my best island poses.
Remember this spot? I tried to recreate my pose during my first visit here where I stayed at their One Bedroom Premiere Villa overlooking the lagoon (Read: Misibis Bay, My Luxury Playground). This is one of the most picturesque areas inside the resort so make sure to take some photos here as well.
To make it easier for guests to explore the resort, Misibis Bay offers free shuttle services for guests to various points around the property. After my short “photo shoot”, it was time to do some water sports activities which guests can book at the Beach Club. This is located at the other end of the private beach strip and is open from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Various options are available including both motorized and non-motorized activities for an additional fee, depending on your room package. First, we paddled around the beautiful coast of Misibis Bay on our double kayaks.
Then we decided to leisurely explore the waters surrounding the islands of Cagraray with their 4-seater Hobie Cat. This is the first time I have tried this type of sailboat and it was such a breaktaking ride! The ocean water was spraying on our faces while the cool breezy wind powered the boat through the bay. Our friendly guide also showed us the neighboring islands during our 30-minute sail before we headed back to the resort. Hobie Cat Sailing is available for P2400 and is good for up to four persons.
If you want to experience a really powerful ride then go and rent their Jetski (P2600) which is good for 30 minutes for up to two persons. Other exciting activities are also available including Windsurfing, Stand-Up Paddle, Snorkeling, and even Scuba Diving.
After all those fun water sports. we were all ready and hungry for lunch. But Misibis Bay Resort seems to have something more special planned for us as we boarded their private speedboat.
This was not just any lunch but a private picnic lunch that was set up at the nearby Pinaghulogan Island. We all felt like royalty as we headed to our destination just a few minutes away.
Now this is the life! Guests of Misibis Bay can request a special private Picnic Lunch (P11,388) at Pinaghulogan Island which is good for up to ten persons. The staff will take care of the entire food and beverage setup on the island so all that your family or group will have to do is to arrive in style.
A big Boodle Fight lunch was waiting for us when we arrived on the island, and we could not have had it any better. This Filipino way of communal eating is just perfect for this beach ambiance. We had our fill of grilled lamb chops, steaks, crabs, salmon, shrimp, chicken, barbecues, and all the rice that we want. They grill the meats and seafood right there on the beach so it is served fresh and hot.
Desserts, fruits, and cold beverages are also available so you can actually enjoy eating and drinking while sitting on the water. This is probably the best view you can ever get while enjoying a boodle feast.
Guest who want to experience these activities can simply look for Misibis Bay’s Guest Activities Coordinator who will be more than happy to curate an itinerary according to their adrenaline preference. Those who live near Legazpi can also avail of their Weekend Buffet every Friday and Saturday until August. For only P2,888 net per person, this package includes scheduled transfers to and from Hotel St. Ellis in Legazpi City to Misibis Bay; day tour and lunch buffet plus use of facilities, pool, and beach inside Misibis Bay; and a dinner buffet at Hotel St. Ellis.
If you are not the outdoors type, don’t worry because the resort also has a few indoor activities for their guests. Have fun away from the sun at Sitio where you can play billiards and table tennis with the kids. Have a quick workout at the Fitness Center, or sing your hearts out at the air-conditioned KTV Room on the second floor.
After a long day of activities, the best way to end the evening is with a rejuvenating treatment at Misibis Bay’s Essenses Spa. Their services combine traditional massage techniques with the ancient Filipino art of healing called Hilot. I decided to have the treatment done in my Pacific View room instead which is better as I can simply fall asleep right after the massage. The Essences Signature Massage (P1.200) is good for one hour. I felt so relaxed and slept like a baby afterwards.
It was our third and last day at the resort but I really didn’t want to leave yet. Despite our 11:00am scheduled transfer to Legazpi airport, there was one more thing I wanted to experience to complete this dream vacation. I first rode an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) during my previous trip to Legazpi (Read: ATV Mayon Lava Trail & Legazpi City Tour) but I really wanted to do it again here at Misibis Bay. So we scheduled an early morning ATV Tour that would take us from the resort to the Cagraray Ecopark and all the way up to the hilltop.
The ATV Tour to Ecopark (P1500) is one of the featured activities guests can do while in Misibis Bay. The main attraction at the Cagraray Eco-Energy Park is the scenic Ampithether which also happened to be a major pitstop during the Amazing Race Asia Season 4. This Stonehenge-looking ampithether is sometimes used as a venue for events and even weddings. It does have that strange peculiar feeling about it.
I wanted to do the full ATV route so I opted for the ATV Tour to Hilltop (P3800) where we had to go through rugged and mountainous terrain to the top of the hill. It was a bit tough on my body, and my friend Gerry’s ATV even got stuck on some rocks, but we were able to make it. That’s girl power for you! We were rewarded with a majestic view of the Albay Gulf and Pacific Ocean.
If you are not so adventurous, you can just do the Misibis Bay Ecopark Tour which only costs P150 per person. The resort van will drive you to the Ecopark where you can also see the hanging bridge and the beautiful but seldom-used chapel overlooking the bay. My three-day Misibis Bay adventure turned out to be one of the most exciting and exhilarating vacations I have ever had. If you haven’t visited this wonderful luxury resort in Legazpi yet, their new Pacific View rooms should give you a great excuse to finally try them out. Thank you Misibis Bay Resort for this magical experience! Until next time!

Cebu Trip - The First Week
2-20-17
So for this day we rented a van because my Dad wanted to do a few erands to start the day. After doing said erands, we went back to Urgello to pick up my Mom and Patrick and went to a factory in Mandaue where they had all the dried filipino fruits you could ask for - dried mangos, dried coconut, dried pineapple. I decided to buy a few things for Jaymie like dark chocolate and peanut kisses. After we stockpiled stuff to bring back home to the states, we went to Ayala to eat at Harbor City where they serve dim sum in carts. It was pretty good except for the bacon wrapped shumai because the bacon wasn’t crispy x.x And as usual, I was feeling pretty full, but what else is new?
After eating lunch, we headed back to Urgello again to pick up Lola then headed back out to SnR. Think Costco or BJ’s but in the Philippines. And what do you normally get at said places? Food = 3 =. The pizza there is favorited by Lola so we got a whole pie and I also got ice cream (because when you’re full, what’s better than more food, amirite? x.x)
And guess what we did afterwards... Yup! We went back to Urgello to pick up Bernard and drop off the stuff so we could meet up with Carl and her family at SM Seaside to eat at Golden Cowrie, which is Filipino cuisine. By this time, tho, I was not having it so I just wanted to eat a combination of puto and lumpia. Like it was the lumpia wrapper wrapped around puto. It was interesting to say the least but at least it didn’t put me too over the top than I already was haha
Before we ate I went to the uniqlo there at SM Seaside to buy some shirts and shorts. It was like a dollar or two cheaper than buying the same clothes in the states, but the other difference is that sizes in the Philippines are smaller. So a medium here in the states is a large over there in the Philippines. At least for Uniqlo... I should mention SM Seaside is one of the newer malls that definitely wasn’t there the last time I went and it’s huugggggggggeeeeeee! So huge, they needed to use a cart to drive Lola back to where we were when she went off to go grocery shopping shortly after dinner. I didn’t get a chance to fully explore that mall but I definitely would need more than a day to do it considering that it’s big. I think bigger than the Prudential center for those that live in NJ haha
2-21-17
Tuesday was more or less a chill day. I waited around at Urgello until around 5 because we were waiting for events to die down and for the sun to go lower so it would be more comfortable to go running. Once we deemed it was a good time to run we walked to a nearby school that had a track and ran there for about thirty to forty-five minutes. I was doing well though I had to take a few breaks, and when we were about to finish, I sprinted the last few seconds. I almost threw up from doing so but I was able to keep it in. We then went back to Urgello to eat dinner while Patrick took a shower, then headed to the hotel with Bernard so I could take a shower. When I was done freshing up, Carl and her family picked us up to eat some desserts at crossroads in banilad. It’s like a small strip mall that will make another appearance in a later blog lol It was pretty good and a nice change of pace from all the greasy foods I had been eating.
2-22-17
I started Wednesday by going to Quatro Hotel because their breakfast on Wednesdays had all you can eat spam. So I treated Bernard and Patrick to that. Luckily I had a good break from eating because after that I went back to the hotel where I spent a few hours raiding. My guild changed plans and decided to do normal nighthold instead of heroic that day as they said they would so I figured I’d hop on, especially since not everyone was in Cebu yet. I’m pretty sure that’s when I got the best trinket a fury warrior can get so I was pretty happy with that - that pretty much solidified my “title” as best fury warrior of the guild haha
After I was done raiding, I met up with my parents and a few of my titas at Ayala for lunch... Well, they had eaten already at TGIF and I just caught up with a caesar salad. Once I finished my salad, my Dad and I went back to the hotel and went to the massage parlor right next door where I had my first ever massage. Okay, so maybe not first ever, but first in a massage parlor. I didn’t really remember much because it was dark and I was half asleep, but what I can recall is that the person that was massaging me was able to carry me off the bed to try and break my back. I felt a little refreshed though my wrists were hurting for some reason.
I don’t remember what we did for dinner, so let’s just skip to the next day XD
2-23-17
Thursday... was interesting to say the least. I remember going to go get a facial with my Dad at Ayala Mall, which was the first time I did such a thing. It was pretty cool. A little more relaxing than the massage to be honest, and my face felt cleaner afterwards. I then went around to McDonalds in the mall because I wanted to try and compare their chicken and spaghetti with KFC’s and Jollibees. McDonalds was pretty tasty, definitely something they should try selling in the states.
After McDonalds, my Dad went to meet my Auntie Sandy at one of their cousins’ house while Patrick and I got playing dominoes from a toys r us in the mall. We then waited around for Carl to pick us up and while waiting I tried a donut place in the mall, Jco. It was an okay place, though I still like Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts better. When Carl picked us up we went to I think Streetscape near Cempark to eat gelato, then we went to pick up my Dad to go to Urgello where shit hit the fan. Let’s just say a bunch of “bad” stuff happened, but we came out alright from it all.
I think we ate at Urgello for dinner, my memory’s a little fuzzy on this, but I do recall going out with Patrick, Carl, Raymon, Bernard, and JR to the local shumai place which I recall I loved getting the last time I was there. Then we tried this place called Monbis that sold halo halo but done a little differently. Initially I didn’t want to eat anything because I was so full but I caved an helped finished someone’s halo-halo haha
2-24-17
Friday was a slow day. My memory’s really fuzzy for this day as well, but what I can remember is playing dominos with Patrick and then picking up my cousin Jenny from the airport. I think that day was also when more of my cousins and family came back from a trip to Leyte, so Urgello was popping a little bit like it was six or seven years ago.
After we picked up Jenny from the airport (which was after dinner) we went to pick up pizza from yellow cab and brought it back to Urgello for midnight snack. I then had to prepare for my weekend trip which I’ll detail in the next blog post.
Yeah, I know my first week didn’t seem like much. Mostly just traveled around, ate, and sleep. XD I promise things get more interesting from this point on, especially with my jetlag coming close to ending.
