Thinking about how Buggy and Shanks parallel Zoro and Luffy but if Luffy dropped his ambitions. The agreement between Zoro and Luffy was that Zoro would follow Luffy, be his first mate, be his swordsman, the first member to join his crew and set sail to achieve Luffy’s dream of being Pirate King IF Luffy never got in the way of Zoro’s dream of being the Strongest Swordsman in the world.
Buggy and Shanks were “apprentices” to Roger (and really more or less they were his sons). They were learning from Roger and learning what being a pirate SHOULD BE. So as apprentices, it would go without saying (at least as far as Buggy is concerned) that that means they need to be the ones to carry Roger’s Legacy. That they should be the ones to get their captain’s treasure and carry out what he wanted for the world. We see it in what Buggy is CURRENTLY doing. That he wants to inspire people to achieve their dreams. Crocodile sees piracy as a business, and Mihawk sees his position as a power pirate as a means to live a peaceful, lazy life where no one would dare bother him. But they don’t have the  ROMANTICISM of a dream anymore. And all those years ago Buggy heard Shanks say he was no longer throwing himself into the romanticism of pirating and adventuring anymore. He’d be a pirate sure, but there was no drive, no DREAM behind it anymore.
And then he asks Buggy to still be a part of his crew. I can only imagine what that request must have felt like to Buggy. For Shanks to tell him “I won’t be the pirate king you saw me as. I’m not seeking any dream. But come be a part of my mediocracy. Just settle for less, Buggy.”
Now of course, Shanks still went and became a HUGE big name pirate. One that achieved Emperor level. But in that moment? In that moment it felt like Shanks was asking Buggy to give up on his dream, settle for being a pirate simply to be a pirate, and betray what they had learned from Roger.
Luffy was never going to get in the way of Zoro’s dream. Zoro’s desire was Luffy’s desire and vice versa, because as they said themselves in the show- the pirate king shouldn’t have anything less than the best swordsman on his crew. But Buggy’s desire was not Shank’s desire. I’d argue it probably still isn’t! I know Shanks is now making his move for the One Piece, but I honestly don’t know that that is his true objective. I think he thinks his place is to BE THERE when the battle for the One Piece happens. He placed a bet on the new generation and he is going to be there to see that bet come to fruition.
And I think part of that conversation between Shanks and Buggy was how they were each grieving. They had both lost a captain, but also a father.
But Buggy has not given up. His own dream was rekindled this most recent chapter (yes partially because he believes Shanks finally wants to be pirate king too), but partially because he finds himself SURROUNDED by people who know longer believe in the child-like wonder of adventure and treasure and the DREAM of becoming PIRATE KING. I think Buggy HAD also given up down the line. I think we saw a Buggy who’d lost his way at the beginning of the series. I do think Buggy doesn’t have the... best morals... But whether it’s intentional or not Buggy is not who we saw at the beginning of the series and he’s rallying so many people under him, and giving them sanctuary, and honestly? Reaching a king’s status to so many people.
But honestly? If Luffy suddenly went “You know what? I’m happy with what I’ve got here. I don’t need to be pirate king anymore. We don’t need to get the One Piece.” The Straw Hats would be SO LOST. Sure maybe they wouldn’t all get immediately angry or upset as Buggy had and asked “Well, what DO you want then?” But they are a crew made from the collection of DREAMS. And everyone’s dream is their own dreams. Zoro’s ambition became Luffy’s ambition, but that would never had happened if there was even a small chance that Luffy would be satisfied with anything that fell lower than reaching their dreams.
All this to say I’m proud of Buggy and support him as Leader of Cross Guild LMAO I hope he continues to fail upwards.

Oda keeps introducing all these found families of misfits and I keep falling for it every single time. I am a simple gal and the Found Family trope owns my ass. They’re all so different but written so fucking well and I am sobbing over every single one of them.

I can’t believe Buggy was literally half a step away from calling Crocodile “Baby girl” in canon. I cannot believe the words “Croccy Baby ❤” came out of his mouth when Crocodile came to collect on his debts. My god.

OP Chapter 1081 Spoilers
Okay now that the official translation is out I have so much to say ;;;;;
Yes it’s going to all be about Law and the Heart Pirates, I am DEVASTATED
Other people have said it too, but the thing that really gets me is just how much Law can NOT catch a break and keeps ending up losing or nearly losing what matters most to him AND HE’S NOT EVEN TRYING TO GET THE ONE PIECE !! Outside of knowing what it is, I mean. He’s not trying to be the strongest, or the king of the pirates, or become an emperor of the sea. He just wants to know about the history behind the origins of his name and what secrets the World Government goes to such lengths to hide from the world. This man’s new purpose in life now that he helped take down Doflamingo is to figure out who he is and why it seems like he keeps being kept alive; To try to figure out who he is or what those who came before him believe he represents. It’s just that his pursuit after the secrets of the world’s history keeps putting him in the path to collide with the most dangerous people in the world!
What he wants more than anything however- what we’ve seen time and time again- is keeping his crew safe. They are his family, the Polar Tang was his HOME. This man has already lost his place in the world TWICE. Has lost those he’s considered family TWICE. And even though I believe- I HAVE to believe- the Heart Pirates will ultimately be okay, Law thinks he’s left them to die. And my god thank goodness for Bepo because Law would have absolutely gotten captured or killed by Blackbeard and BB or any of his crew getting the Ope Ope no Mi would be SO CATASTROPHICALLY BAD!
Law didn’t even pick a fight with this man!! He didn’t initially want to fight Blackbeard! They were just coming out of fighting against Big Mom an Kaidou, Law during which was like ‘the things one has to do just to learn about history!’ (Though yes, I do think Law cared about helping the people of Wano. He is a kind person and a doctor after all). BUT when we first see the Heart Pirates in their run-in with Blackbeard THEY’RE TRYING TO ESCAPE! Law didn’t want to get his crew in that fight!!! But when it was obvious there was no getting away he did what he does best and went into strategy mode to guide his crew through the fight. If they were going to be forced into a battle against Blackbeard and his crew, might as well take the information from the poneglyphs he has. To at least maybe have this be a step towards his goal.
But the last thing he wants, the thing he fears more than anything, is putting his crew into danger. This man is ready to sacrifice himself for their safety at every turn. And then he has his ship destroyed. He cannot even use his powers to save his crew from being stranded deep under water, (some of them) likely to drown if BB’s crew don’t get to them first. Bepo has to get Law out of there by force not just because Law is severely injured and thoroughly drained of energy from his fight against Blackbeard, but also because Law would absolutely get himself killed to save even one of his crewmembers. To not lose another family member.
I am so pained to see the Polar Tang destroyed. Again, I have to believe at least a number of the Heart Pirates are okay, but my god I hope Oda gives this poor boy a break?! I don’t know if Law and Kid are going to meet up, or if Law will get the Pluton now that his own ship is destroyed (and maybe Law is back on a revenge track) or if it’ll be through Law that stumble upon who this ‘man marked by flames’ is, but MY GOD I hope Law gets to have a happy ending. It would be so fucking heartbreaking if after all he’s been through, after all he’s lost, after all this time of just trying to keep those he cares about the most safe and to know why he’s still alive, he dies or loses everything once more. If he meets his end sacrificing himself or dying before he gets to live the life of freedom and happiness Corazon died to give him I am going to be RUINED.
A small part of me wants Luffy/The Straw Hats to find out what BB did to Law and go APE SHIT, but more than anything I just want Law to finally find happiness and the ACTUALLY KEEP IT!!! Stop having his crew/family taken away from him!!! This man has already had so much tragedy in his life he doesn’t need any more!
I do not know if this is Oda building up to a defeat for the Straw Hats as well, Luffy and Zoro being members of the worst generation like Kid, Killer, and Law or if this is Oda emphasizing that Luffy is on the level of the other Yonkos now and on a different level than Kid and Killer. The Straw Hats already had a moment of major defeat in Sabaody and Luffy has been built up so much for coming end-game fights against the World Government, Shanks, and Blackbeard that I’m inclined to believe Egghead isn’t going to end horribly for them, but this truly is the first time since catching up that I am so scared/anxious to know what’s going to happen next and I just do not know what direction Oda is going in.

I am reading the manga adaptation of the Ace Novel and oh my god. Fellas is it gay to dedicate your name to being your captain’s number 2??? Is it gay to look at the man you got stranded on an island with with so much fondness and admiration?? Masked Deuce my beloved I already love you so much.
He really went ‘Ace means #1 so my name will be Deuce (#2) and I will stand by your side.’ LIKE OH MY GOD

1 am thoughts, I am thinking about how the Heart Pirates (+Jinbe) were the only ones to witness Luffy at his lowest point. To see Luffy when he is in so much mental distress and pain that he is HURTING HIMSELF because he didn’t want his mind to even remember that Ace was dead. The heart pirates tried so desperately to get him to stay still, worried he was going to kill himself by rampaging and re-opening his wounds, but being constantly thrown off and outmatched by Luffy’s strength. Of course, there was no doubt how fucking strong Luffy was even in his lowest point here. He’s down right *terrifying*- blowing a hole through the polar tang, looking half deranged and ready to murder moments before he did so. At the same time, Law seemed pretty confident Luffy wasn’t going to actually hurt his crew. He would’ve taken more action if he thought his crew was in danger.
BUT, what I’m REALLY thinking about is how after this- after the two year time skip, when the Heart Pirates meet Luffy again- All they want to do is properly introduce themselves and make a good impression on him and his crew. They admire the SHIT out of Luffy, and I think all the more because they SAW what condition Marineford left him in. How BROKEN he was. And yet, here he was two years later all smiley and confident again and he and the straw hats helped their captain with his revenge quest and brought him back safe to them. Yes, they still of course idolize and love Law more, but my god you cannot convince me that they don’t also have huge respect for Luffy.
I think they would also notice Law is slightly different than when they left them, and in a good way. I like to think that Law is more relaxed, happier, despite still keeping up his ‘intimidating former warlord’ air about him. His crew sees right through him and I think are over the moon that this heavy weight that had been crushing their captain is now alleviated, at least somewhat, and they have Luffy and the Straw Hats to thank for that. They do not think less of the infamous Straw Hat Luffy because they’ve seen him at his lowest, most vulnerable state. They think so incredibly highly of him (Just as their captain does).

Hey. HEY!
I knew 1015 was going to be gorgeous from the shots I’d seen BUT I WASN’T EXPECTING TO BE INCONSOLABLE BECAUSE OF IT.
DON’T TOUCH ME. DON’T PERCEIVE ME. I AM IN ABSOLUTE PIECES FROM THE SCENE OF LUFFY GETTING TO THE ROOF
I WASN’T EXPECTING 1015 TO MAKE ME SOB, OR AT LEAST BEYOND THE WHOLE ACE THING, WHICH ALSO HURT!!!!

HHHH okay, wip but I realized after starting this that they actually had a slightly bigger boat than the little dingy once Nami joined. Which version do you guys want for the final piece- Nami with the boys, or just Zoro and Luffy?

I’m going to be so sad if we don’t get at least one klaubautermann moment in One Piece before the end. Merry was wonderful and I love her so so much don’t get me wrong but it does feel kind of mean that Franky has put so much love into making Sunny and caring for her and the Straw Hats have had Sunny for so long now but there’s no indication of Sunny getting a voice or that Sunny has close to the same level of spirit Merry did. It makes me sad!!!

Tag game: 3 books, 3 movies, and 3 songs
that changed your life or you just love.
thanks for the tag @karinzany . Same as the other ones I've done, I'm very hesitant to put any sort of pressure on someone to do these but if you follow me and would like to join in, by all means consider yourself tagged!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Explanation/Context:
Books Avalon Web of Magic Series / The Enchanted Forest Series - I'm putting these two together because they were both like- the formative books that solidified my love for fantasy. I LOVED both these books as a kid
Soul Eater - I think this is the manga series that definitely got me into manga. There may have been a few individual volumes of a manga series that I read before Soul Eater but Soul Eater is the first one I remember my friends and I being INVESTED in. BlackStar was my favorite character and I both apologize and will not defend him. I just remember really liking his development throughout the series ;;;; (the manga not the anime)
Movies Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron - I watched this movie on REPEAT when I was a kid. This was my sick movie, my feel-good movie, my "I'm bored and want to listen to these banger songs" movie. I could not begin to count the number of times I watched this movie.
A Knight's Tale - I mean, the real answer here is The Princess Bride but I want to give the spot to A Knight's Tale because I feel like it doesn't get talked about NEARLY as much. It's such a fun (and dare I say kind of gay? yes I will back up this opinion if asked) movie and it combines my love for the medieval/fantasy setting and my sense of humor. If you liked the most recent Dnd movie, I think you would really like this movie.
Treasure Planet - Its got action, its got humor, its got found family, its got a really wonderfully complex villain, its got sci fi flying ships!!! Like, come on. This movie is SO GOOD and yes it is largely because of Jim Hawkins' and John Silver's characters.
Songs
Misery Fell by Tally Hall - I love Tally Hall/Miracle Musical so much and Misery Fell was what introduced me to them. I found it through an Adventure Zone Animatic and I've LATCHED onto their music.
The Middle by Jimmy Eats World - This was my "This song is about me!" song as a kid. It was a song my older brother listened to and as I middle child I heard the lyrics and was like "I'm in the middle! That's me!". 12 year old (?) me has definitely cried to this song at least once.
Lollipop by Mika - I'm including this song as the representative song for those songs in high school that I would put on to sing at the top of my lungs. World is mine by Miku is a close second though. They're only meaningful to me in that they were my source serotonin riding the bus home.

Ooh, for the WIP ask thing, “Law Embroidering 2” please. And if you’re up to doing two, the Hearts are upset writing WIP? Thank you.
Of course! I don't see how Law could actually be convinced to do as much- but my thought for this second embroidering drawing was what if Luffy found out Law made the customized clothes for the Heart Pirates and somehow convinced Law to make his crew embroidered jackets and such too!
Tumblr media
And here's a small snippet from "The Heart Pirates are Upsetti" (Placeholder name)! Basically this was going to be right after Law and the Heart Pirates reunited on Zou. The Heart Pirates are thrilled to have their beloved captain back but the fact that Law was not planning on surviving his suicidal revenge plan leaves some lingering emotions the crew can't shake-
His crew could be a real nuisance sometimes- a thought that has gone through Law’s head several times the past few days. Law had come to notice a recent pattern of uneasiness amongst the members of the Heart Pirates, and it was starting to irritate him to no end.
The furthest point he was able to trace this pattern back to was over dinner on the day following their arrival on Zou. The thing that had struck him as odd in the moment was how uncharacteristically quiet his crew was while they ate- Especially Bepo, Shachi, and Shachi who made enough noise and chaos over meals to rival with mealtimes with the Straw Hats. There was no grappling for food, or sharp accusations of theft thrown about.
“Alright, something is clearly bothering you.” He had said pointedly to the three, “Out with it.”
The three exchanged a look with each other in response, all of them looking incredibly reluctant to actually comply with his demand. It was Shachi who had eventually offered to him “ We’re just worried about the Minks’ Tribe is all, Captain. ‘Wish there was more we could do, you know?”
Law held Shachi’s gaze. He did in fact know, but Law also knew that definitely was not the cause of his crew’s unease. The bead of sweat he had noticed running down the side of Shachi’s face indicated Shachi himself doubted the lie would be enough to convince him too. But, he had taken mercy on Shachi’s building nerves under his critical look, and after a few seconds had passed merely let out a tired sigh into the onigiri in his hand. He doubted any of them needed it to be said, but he still broke down for the lot of them how the Minks would be fine, going into perhaps too much detail of the antidote and treatment the Straw Hat’s doctor was administering to the inhabitants of the island.
The fronted nature of the relieved smiles they’d given him following his explanation hadn’t been lost on Law either.

Do Zolu for the bingo. Do it. Be insane about them.
ohohohohohEHEHEHEHE DON'T MIND IF I DO!!!!!! You know. You get me.
Zolu my beloveds, my disasters, my blorbos gazing into each others eyes as the world burns around them because nothing else matters more to them (except their nakama's safety, for which they would give anything):

There are other ships I like with Zoro, there are other ships I like with Luffy. But this is THE ship, I'm sorry. It's about the devotion, it's about the unwavering faith in the other, the loyalty, the trust. It's about how just DAYS after meeting each other they are so in-sync that Zoro know exactly what Luffy wants him to do without Luffy actually saying it. It's about how even Mihawk read off of Zoro that it was Luffy Zoro was throwing aside his pride for. That he would sink to the floor and plead for help in becoming stronger because it all means nothing if he can't be strong enough FOR HIM (and the family he's brought together). It's about how Zoro immediately agreed that throwing away his ambition, his life, was worth saving Luffy's. That Luffy's dream was more important than his own. It's about how absolutely OVERCOME with joy they were to see each other after being apart from each other for a few weeks. It's about Luffy laughing through every apology whenever he's accidentally punched, slammed, launched Zoro. Which he does A LOT. It's about Zoro being there when being a captain and a leader weighs heavy upon Luffy's shoulders and Luffy needs a rock to ground him. I cannot bring myself to say I like them more as friends/platonically even though it would actually form a bingo because they invented love actually. I am SO insane about them no ship has a bigger spot in my heart.
