The Sallows
An AU HC of Sebastian & Anne's parents with a dash of dear ol' uncle Solomon.
gif for attention. LOL. TEENY bit of hurt ahead.
Tumblr media
Sorry in advance.
TLDR: Sallows are rich.
I present to you the Sallows:
1) Even though it's not explicitly stated we can gather from context clues (despite the rationale of "magic") that the Sallows were quite wealthy and were of a socially high rank. LBR even if there IS magic those who are well-educated & value knowledge tend to be those who are higher up the social ladder. Don't misunderstand it as people who are less fortunate do not, the base here is that even if they started from the bottom they got UP the ladder to the point that knowledge is so valued they made room for a library & in my experience the people who can afford to have their own library have money, lots of it.
Some basics:
These are things I (& I'm sure other people) have gleaned from playing the game alone or just kind of reading through all the little details about our favorite Sallow *cough cough* Sebastian Solomon. Sorry if this isn't super articulate and kinda scattered.
2) We can glean this from the fact that they had a large home. Not just any large home but a countryside home in an era where the wealthy often wanted homes away from the crowded and noisy cities for several reasons:
Health and Sanitation: Cities were rapidly industrializing, leading to increased pollution, poor sanitation, and the spread of diseases. The wealthy could afford to live in less populated areas, which were considered healthier due to cleaner air and less congestion.
Status and Privacy: Living away from the city was also a status symbol. It demonstrated that one had the means to afford such a lifestyle. Additionally, it provided a level of privacy and exclusivity that was not available in the dense urban centers.
Aesthetic and Leisure: The countryside offered a more aesthetically pleasing environment, with natural landscapes as opposed to the industrial backdrop of the city. It also provided space for leisure activities such as hunting, gardening, and hosting social gatherings. Even now, this is still a thing. LBR, magic or no classism existed in the wizarding world. Those who can afford to do this seriously choose oddly empty or less populated areas with pretty things to look at, not necessarily "views" as it is more like "the little things".
Technological Advances: The development of transportation like railways and streetcars made commuting from suburban areas to city centers feasible, allowing the wealthy to enjoy the best of both worlds: working in the city while living in the tranquility of the suburbs. Case in point the Hogwarts express.
To continue about their home; it was large enough to have a cellar. I stress again that they have a library, a cellar library where they stored many books and artifacts related to magic and history which implies that they had a passion for learning and collecting rare and valuable items, which could also indicate a high level of education and culture. Who in this time period can afford to be "cultured"? The wealthy.
3) Through Solomon we know they had connections to the British Ministry of Magic since he was an auror. We also know that he had a library, albeit a small one compared to his brother and sister-in-law's cellar library, which implies he's earned enough to still manage to acquire one and have a comfortable living. Which suggest that dear old Solomon was probably a highly valued Auror. As we know, only the best can be Aurors and the best usually garners RESPECT & WEALTH & PRESTIGE. Solomon's position suggests that the Sallows were deeply integrated into the fabric of magical governance. Aurors are elite members of the magical law enforcement community, often involved in high-level operations and decisions within the Ministry of Magic. This role would necessitate a high degree of trust, reliability, and recognition by the Ministry, indicating a family that is well-regarded and influential within the upper echelons of magical society. This respect and recognition is not merely a reflection of Solomon's personal achievements but also suggests a family background that supports and fosters such high levels of achievement and commitment to public service.
ANYWAY, we can presume through all the clues that the Sallows positions were both prestigious & likely well-compensated, reflecting the importance of their contributions to the magical world. This financial and social capital further enable their pursuits (professors, auror), such as maintaining a significant library, which in itself is a symbol of wealth and status, implies that the Sallow family possessed considerable wealth & resources, influence & clearly had contributions to the wizarding world even before we meet Solomon and family that commanded respect within society.
Did I miss anything??? S'cuse my ramblings...
Isla Sallow
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mother of Anne & Sebastian Sallow
Slytherin, Pure-blood
younger twin sister
Solomon's heart
comes from a fairly well off family
Nicknamed "Ava"
Gav's heart
Met Gav in 6th yr in the library mistaking him for Solomon from behind at first.
They were friends first and then the more they got to know each other the more they just clicked.
Tortured about the relationship she has with the Sallow twins.
Resisted Gav's charms for as long as possible.
Ultimately they just clicked much better and in ways she struggled to click with Solomon. Their interests were well aligned and tended to complement each other.
Ended her relationship with Solomon late October in 7th yr.
Overall I kind of went for like "caged bird" to "freed bird" with her. With Solomon, all he wanted was to love her, keep her protected and mostly to himself I.E. he didn't want her doing "dangerous" things (a la Evelyn O'Connell nee Carnahan).
Logic behind the name:
With Gavriel he made no such restrictions he recognized she's more than capable of handling herself, like his twin he wanted to do the same but thought he could lose her to someone else who would give her what she wanted like Solomon lost her to him.
Professor of Ancient Artefacts
Isla - Scottish name, pretty, feminine, elegant derived from the Islay island and a river. Pure & Simple.
Aveline - French, from the Germanic Avila originally coming from the Germanic word 'avi'. Means "desired.
Ava - nickname for Aveline, Latin for "Bird," "life," or "living one." Associated with the word "Avis"
Adair - Scottish/Gaelic meaning from the oak tree ford.
Gavriel Sallow
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Father of Anne & Sebastian Sallow
Ravenclaw, the hat was torn about putting him in Slytherin or Gryffindor but he proved to be more Ravenclaw. Just barely though.
The younger Sallow twin.
Nicknames "Arie" & "Bram". He answers to both
Isla's love
Never met his twin's gf until 6th yr when they both we're doing their own independent research and met each other in the library.
He never cared much about his twin's gf... In fact he didn't know who she was and didn't care to meet her.
Until he met her in the library when she thought he was his brother. Then it was like he got hit by cupid's wrecking balls.
He didn't know she was his brother's gf until it was too late.
He was pining for awhile and tortured about it especially after learning it is his twin brother's gf.
Totally deluded himself into thinking she's just his brother's friend though... everything and anything he could do to try not to take her away from him but...
No surprise he acted on his feelings though... He's still Slytherin enough under that Ravenclaw veneer.
Parent's gave him the longer Abraham since he's the younger twin.
The charismatic one
Ended up needing reading glasses as he got older from reading all those books.
FRECKLES!! His freckles disappear when he doesn't get enough though. He's lightly freckled but has more than his twin.

Logic behind the name:
Gavriel - Hebrew, meaning "God's hero" or "God is my strength". I wanted something kind of inline with the name Solomon.
Arie - as a nickname for Gavriel is also of Hebrew origin "Lion" or "lion of God."
Abraham - Again, I wanted something to keep in line with Solomon and also Hebrew in origin. Was hoping it kinda gives off that "wisdom" vibe?
Bram - Diminutive of Abraham. I wanted something that was.... uh... "friendlier" than the full Abraham.
Young Solomon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The older Twin
Isn't as freckly as his twin
Dating Isla since 4th yr
Isla's first love
Sometimes went by "Brom"
Lost Isla to his brother in 7th yr
He knew they had become friends through sheer happenstance
Isla mistook his twin for him in the library and the rest was history.
Even though they broke up, Solomon still deeply loved Isla. (THE PINING!!!)
Where his twin and former love became professors, he became an auror.
He's charming but he's "average" compared to his more charming twin.
When he had to take in his orphaned niece and nephew he found it difficult to face them.
He favors Anne because she looks so much like her mother, his lost love, Isla.
He hates on Sebastian because he looks too much like himself, like his father, Solomon's twin and could have been his son.
Sebastian is a daily reminder of what he could have had with Isla.
Logic behind the name:
Abram - Hebrew, again I still wanted something in line with Solomon and something that played into the twinship. Means "high father" or "exalted father" before it becamme "father of many" to reflect his covenant with God. but also seems to really suit him in the he protects Anne & Sebastian
Brom - I wanted something that played into their twinship but was still distinctly his and can add to the whole mistaken identity thing. Also, seemed like a bit more rugged than "Bram" and really seemed to suit him much better. It has that solidness to its sound and even kind of gives me "stubborn" vibes. Brom is the dark to Bram's light.
In short I really wanted a name that encapsulates all at once a guardian, a warrior, and a man in search of redemption.

Profs Sallow et Sallow
So I... did something...
I asked ChatGPT to create an image of Mr. & Mrs. Sallow by extrapolating features based on images of their children (Seb & Anne) & dear old Uncle Solomon.
Hoooooooooooo boy! I love it.
Please Scream with me!!!
These are the pics I gave it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is what it gave me for their Mom whom I will now and forever call Isla Aveline "Ava" Sallow nee Adair
Tumblr media Tumblr media
then I asked for the dad but had to supplement with some AI images of Seb. These ones
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and it gave me this gem… please ignore the line down the middle… Idk why it's there I tried to get rid of it but i'm no good at shopping and I just.... Mr. Sallow... whom will now forever be known as Gavriel "Arie" Abraham Sallow. Also, he probably goes "Bram" as another nickname... at least... in my head he does.
I am speechless!!!!
