Whats It All For
This post is inspired by the many people I see do many things for many reasons. I personally get caught up in the comparison game: "is he really that much better than me?" or "What can they do that I can't?" Questions like these and any like them are irrelevant to what the real driving force should be. Some people do music for the money, or maybe their parents or relatives made a career out of it before them, or maybe they just do it because it seems like a "cool" thing to do. I say do it for the love of the art/craft...do it because of the way it makes you feel, do it because its where all of your inspiration seems to take you. That was a lesson I learned not too long ago. At the end of the day it didn't matter what anybody else had or what anybody else was doing, all that mattered was what was I doing to improve my current production level. I ended up producing some of the best music I've ever made. Now I'm looking to top myself in the same manner. #ElevatorMusic2

The Music Industry & Relationships
It was another late night in the studio around 11 pm. I was an employee, not a client at this time. I got a phone call from her, my lil' mama', my shawty...you get the idea. She was upset at me because she hadn't heard from me ALL day. Granted, I got up at 530 that morning to start my work day at 7, and I had been going non stop ever since, but of course that's no excuse. She got off the phone claiming she was going to bed, she was obviously still disturbed. There wasn't too much I could do, I was on the clock. But the studio manager overheard my conversation, walked up to me and said "can't live wit'em, can't live wit out'em". I smirked and said "so true". he and I along with the rest of the staff with the exception of some of our house engineers sat in the front office and literally talked about relationships in the music industry for the next hour.
At the base of the round table discussion, I was advised to "bend a little" stop being so stubborn and absorbed in my world, there's gotta be give from both sides. Its a lot harder than it sounds but it is possible. I can't lie, I go to sleep and wake up thinking about music and my future in it (very exciting stuff lol) but I at least have to try, the effort will be appreciated. But before all that I HAVE to determine if the relationship is something I want right now.
I know a lucky few who share relationships with people who are also in the music industry, they get it. But its a little unreasonable to expect everybody else to get it. And I'm a young guy, I can't not go hard for my career right now, I can't afford to slack a bit, especially considering the volatility of the industry I'm in. Its tough out here people, but being a workaholic is no excuse for neglecting the people you care about, and if you don't care about them then do them and yourself a favor and let them go. You'll get a lot more work done and they won't be wasting their time.

STAKlife...Its been a while
Whats good, good peole. Its been a few weeks since I've blogged. I've taken on 2 jobs and an internship. Its not easy, AT ALL. Some might ask "why would you do that to yourself"...get'n an average of about 3.5 hours of sleep everynight, eating when I can, and practically throwing away any kind of social life. Even tho I can say I'm in a pretty good position regarding my young career, I'm here to tell you right now that it is NOT HEALTHY. But in this oh so saturated music industry of ours you have to ask yourself "is it worth it?" The answer will be the determining factor in how far you will go for your "passion". Once you get into the rhythm of everything its a little easier than having to be a self motivator all the time. After getting started, a big part of your motivation other than self motivation will be not wanting to let people down, to show everybody that you're that dude/chick. cause, honeslty, all you need is one slip up before people are looking to replace you, but then again, that depends on the strength of your professional relationships. This is my 100th post. Cheers ha!..but seriously...I normally post way earlier than this. But most recently my time has been occupied by a new job I got at the newly established NYC studio Jungle City. The only studio I've ever seen with windows in the control rooms and the booths. As I said it just opened up so the buzz is still building around this place, but it will be the premiere recording spot in New York. For serious, I'm not just hyping this place up because I work there, its really that official. Your favorite artist will record there before their career is over, hopefully.
