Somerville is an extraordinarily confusing game, embodying the style of Inside, but despite how every ending in the game left me "?????? what was that. what just happened" it is a a lovely, aesthetically pleasing game and I wish there was more fanart for it

#thoughts #somerville #I keep trying to pick apart why Somerville's ending fell flat for me while Inside's left me stunned and awed #Inside has themes of dystopias; bordering Little Nightmares in terms of tone; with an enslaved population and tube things #it is postapocalyptic and there is no happy end #Somerville is of a family wrenched apart and an active apocalypse; you have hope you are searching for loved ones #in both games there is the tonal shift of discovering something greater than your singular self #and yet. I can't help but be disappointed by the latter's execution #it's a visually beautiful game and I do like it overall I think! I like it! the ending just kinda left me with. 'oh ok.' and nothing else #aarrrgghh #I'd love to see more analysis of it too
