By • Olalekan Fagbade Israel/Hamas war: Senior Lawyer Femi Falana tells Amnesty International what to do Mr Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has tasked Amnesty International to lead the human rights community to demand justice in the war between Israel and Hamas. Falana, also a Human Rights Activist, gave this charge at a media parley arganised by Amnesty International in Lagos on Thursday. He commended Amnesty International for its achievements but accused it of being hypocritical concerning ” atrocities perpetrated by western governments and Israel.” “Isreal supported by the United States and other western countries are prosecuting an agenda to destroy unharmed people, including children. “There have been mass felling of children, such that you cry when you watch the goings-on on television and see how children are being killed. “You cannot defeat an organisation by unleashing violence, no. you must address the crises that led to the emergence of the organisation. “Internationally, collective punishment is prohibited in the Geneva Convention,’’ Falana said. He stressed that what Israel was doing in prosecuting war with Hamas in the Gaza strip was tantamount to crimes against humanity and genocidal acts. According to him , if the occurrence had been committed the other way round, the west would have ordered for the Israeli Prime Minister to be arrested through the International Criminal Court (ICC). “Compare the atrocities perpetrated so far in Gaza to the crisis in Ukraine. What did Putin do that the west ensured that the ICC-controlled by them ordered his arrest? “Yet, nobody has even suggested that Prime Minister Netayanhu be arrested talk less of charged. Amnesty International must spearhead the human rights community to demand that justice be done in the case of Israel,” he said. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that war broke out between Israel and Hamas after Hamas fighters,on Oct.7, fired rockets into Israel and stormed the southern Israeli cities and towns across the border of the Gaza Strip. The fighters killed more than 1400 Israelis and injured over 3300 , taking hundreds hostage after the surprise attack. The on-going war is the most significant escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in several decades. Coming to Nigeria, Falana said the media and citizenry had a big role to play in putting an end to human rights abuses, including illegal arrests and detention. He said that section 34 of the Administration of Human Justice Act and section 70 of the Police Establishment Act had imposed a duty on chief magistrates, to at least visit all police stations in their magisterial district once a month. “During the visit, the magistrate can grant bail, order release of persons or order for persons to be charged to court. “If that happens monthly in our country, and if all the 5000 police stations are visited by their magistrates, today, illegal arrests and detentions will be a thing of the past. “The same goes for other detention centres. “Under the same laws, the chief judge of the Federal High Court shall designate judges to visit all other detention facilities be it Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), or the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) and military detention centres. “One thing we have not mentioned and really understood is the role the media played in fighting corruption to a standstill in the 70s. “There were no EFCC and ICPC. The media must live up to its reputation,” Falana said. (NAN)

Watch "E Don Red! ICC To Arrest Buhari, Wike, Tambuwal For Nnamdi Kanu's Kïdnapping, Kìllìng Of Biafrans" on YouTube
youtube
UN And World Powers Act Now On Biafra
We make passionate appeal to International Bodies, including United Nations and World Powers, to act now on freedom of Biafrans from slavery in Nigeria. Let economic sanctions be imposed on the country, until Nnamdi Kanu is released, and a date for referendum fixed.
Nigerian authorities, including the current President, are dragging their feet to let Kanu off the hook, after series of court judgements, discharging and acquitting him. The Government prefers to release thousands of deadly terrorists and bandits; who commit heinous crimes against humanity. Furthermore, they hate individuals who kick against their gross deprivations and human right abuses of Biafran people. Time has come, for the world bodies to take the bull by the horns.
We love Nnamdi Kanu. He has refused to be barbed or intimidated, to give up the struggle for Biafra Self-determination. He was offered billions of dollars, numerous oil wells, etc, But, he vehemently rejected them. He vowed never to betray his people. He’s the undisputed Biafra leader. We want referendum to be supervised by United Nations, for genuine freedom in Biafra land.
The gross deprivation and oppression against us, have reached the climax; with the overturning of recent Presidential election result our man won. It’s a continuation of the grand conspiracy against Igbos. Hausa/Fulanis and Yoruba collaborators, resolved over fifty years ago, that no Igbo man would ever rule Nigeria.
Peter Obi clearly won the Presidential election, conducted on February 25th, 2023. He won with a very wide margin across the country. But, he was denied victory, mainly because he is an Igbo man from Biafra territory. His victory and case before election tribunal are very glaring. It’s practically impossible to pass verdict against it, in any credible judiciary.
He even won by figures of Independent Nigerian Electoral Commission (INEC), if correctly calculated. In several states, INEC deliberately failed to add up figures in all the Local Government Areas, making up each of the states. That is to say, there was intentional mathematical errors, to add the total sum of votes scored by Peter Obi in all the LGAs of the affected states. The states include: Rivers, Benue, Taraba, and some others. Obviously, he won more states that the declared winner from ruling party. Peter Obi won, But APC candidate of the ruling party was rigged in and announced the winner.
The same ruling party, APC candidate failed to secure the mandatory 25% minimum votes required for Abuja. Also, he has hard drug conviction issue; double registration of his Vice; certificate issue and perjury. There is the type of case one will have in the court, even if his senior brother is in charge, he can honestly tell him, that the case is bad; that his brother’s hands are tied.
The current President in power, was tactfully hoisted on the people of Nigeria, without giving the Election Tribunal enough time to decide the true winner, before swearing in of somebody on May 29th 2023. The case involving the rightful winner, Peter Obi, would have been resolved if the court was allowed to start on time. It began to sit about three months after the mutilated election result was announced. Nigeria is a country where anything can happen. It’s very dangerous for someone with hard drug criminal record, to be allowed to rule in any part of a country.
The hatred against Igbos in Nigeria is a cronic one. The lasting solution is for us to be allowed to pull out. Even if Peter Obi comes on board, it can never be a permanent solution to our plight and slavery in Nigeria... https://powertrumpeter.org/blog1/let-justice-be-done.

EFCC boss, Bawa must go to jail, CSOs tell IGP
Tumblr media
More than 120 front-line Anti-corruption Civil Society Organisations, on Friday, held a massive town hall meeting, in Lagos, to round off their week-long protest against what they called “Politicisation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Disobedience of Court Orders and Infringement on Human Rights of Nigerians” under the leadership of Abdulrasheed Bawa.
The protesters, who began to have a large following on social and conventional media, since their first public protest last Friday, gave the Inspector-General of Police a seven-day ultimatum to affect the Court order that committed Bawa to prison for contempt, noting that the EFCC’s alleged desperate recruitment to counter the CSOs would not help the Commission.
According to them, though the first phase of the protest ended on Friday, the CSOs would jointly and individually petition relevant international agencies, demanding sanctions against Bawa until he becomes law-abiding and serves his jail term.
A spokesperson for the Transparency and Accountability Group, Ayodeji Ologun, insisted that the EFCC boss could not appeal the contempt ruling without first obeying the order, saying the Nigerian authorities were dangerously toeing the path of anarchy with the incessant disobedience of court orders, especially by an agency set up to stamp out corruption.
He said the politicisation of the EFCC was evident in the slant of its operations, noting that while a series of petitions were piled up unattended at the EFCC offices on monumental corruption across Nigeria, the Commission’s boss had allegedly demonstrated that his task was mainly political vendetta.
The activists kicked strongly against the EFCC’s statement that they were hired CSOs, saying those on the struggle had been at the forefront of the fight against corruption for years and were well known for their doggedness and patriotism.
“When Bawa was still learning to wear his pants, or hiding in his parents’ home, many of us here were already at the barricades fighting for democracy and the office he is enjoying today. Back then, nobody paid us to fight for justice. Whoever is saying we were paid to do this must be thoroughly examined. We are strictly activists, not political jobbers,” Director, of Activists for Good Governance, Declan Ihehaire, said.
“We are saying President Buhari should sack Bawa and if he doesn’t sack him, we are sure that whoever is coming on board, come May 29, 2023, will listen to us and have Bawa sacked,” he added.
The CSOs accused the EFCC of greater corruption and called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately put machinery in motion to sanitise the Commission so that the war against criminals and corrupt elements in Nigeria would make meaning.
“Go to EFCC office today, there won’t be parking space. Most of them, who are police officers, drive different types of exotic cars that their colleagues who don’t work with EFCC cannot afford,” Spokesperson for the Coalition of Anti-corruption Organisations, Olufemi Lawson, said.
Reviewing the protests so far, he stated, “For one week, we have, as a coalition, embarked on a sustained agitation for the removal of Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The Coalition, comprising of over 120 active organisations, has been able to sustain this, despite sponsored blackmail, intimidation and campaign of calumny by agents of the embattled EFCC Chairman, Mr Bawa.
“Today, we have invited selected leaders of our various organizations, to further press home our demand, under an atmosphere of engagement with some more stakeholders, whom we have also invited to be part of us today.
“As frontline Anti-corruption activists, we wish to restate our uncompromising demand, for President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately releive Mr Bawa of the position of the Chairman of the EFCC. Mr Bawa has lost the moral capacity to continually preside over such an important law enforcement agency, having become a signpost for disobedience to the rule of law, particularly express orders of our courts.”
Lawson, who is also the Executive Director, Centre for Public Accountability, added, “This is just the first phase. We will be submitting petitions to relevant international agencies and embassies demanding sanctions against Bawa until he becomes law-abiding. We can’t allow our Judiciary be rubbished by anyone.
“We are by this medium, giving a seven-day ultimatum to President Muhammadu Buhari, in line with the mood of the nation currently, to direct the Inspector General of Police to effect the arrest order on Bawa and commit him to prison, as ordered by the court, after which our nationwide protests would resume.”
He saluted the courage of various leaders and groups who had been part of the sustained agitation for Bawa to be sacked on account of the disobedience of court orders and had refused to be intimidated even in the face of obvious threats.
The ‘Bawa Must Go’ protests, which started a week ago, were led by CACOL Chairman, Debo Adeniran; Executive Director, Zero Graft Centre, Kolawole Sanchez-Jude; Chairman, Coalition Against Corruption and Bad Governance, Toyin Raheem; Executive Director, Centre for Public Accountability, Olufemi Lawson; Spokesperson for the Transparency and Accountability Group, Ayodeji Ologun; Director, Activists for Good Governance, Declan Ihehaire; and Ahmed Balogun of Media Rights Concern, among over 100 notable leaders of Anti-corruption CSOs.

Investigating allegations of violations and providing assistance to victims.
Accountability for attacks on education is an important deterrence mechanism and is critical for delivering justice to victims, survivors, and their families and communities. National and international courts made efforts to prosecute perpetrators of attacks on education including the following: • In Afghanistan, six perpetrators of the November 2, 2020, attack on Kabul University were tried a several months after the attack occurred. On March 4, 2021, an appellate court announced that five suspects were convicted of charges related to the attack and for their membership in the Islamic State; two were sentenced to death, one was sentenced to two years, and two were sentenced to 12 years in prison. The perpetrators were also fined around US$33,000 for damages to the university campus. • In Burkina Faso, in August 2021, two members of the armed group Ansaroul Islam were sentenced to 20 years in prison for an attack three years earlier, according to Human Rights Watch and media sources. Human Rights Watch also reported that the defendants were detained for three years prior to their trial and that they were not informed of their right to legal counsel in court.
In Nigeria, on December 11, 2020, the International Criminal Court Prosecutor announced the completion of her preliminary examination of the situation in Nigeria, having concluded that there was a reasonable basis to believe that war crimes and crimes against humanity were committed, including intentionally directing attacks against buildings dedicated to religion and education which were not military objectives pursuant to Rome Statute article 8(2)(e)(iv), by members of Boko Haram and its splinter groups.
In Colombia, seven Army soldiers sexually abused a girl from the Embera Chamí Indigenous group in a school their unit was using for military purposes in Pueblo Rico municipality, Risaralda department, on June 21, 2020. The soldiers admitted to the crime and the attorney general found them guilty, according to local media outlet El Espectador. On September 28, 2021, the Supreme Court of Pereira sentenced six of the soldiers to 16 years of prison for aggravated abusive sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 14 and the remaining soldier to eight years of prison as an accomplice to the crime. GPCEA cannot verify to what extent the above trials and examination were conducted in a fair manner and according to international legal standards. Implementing conflict-sensitive approaches to education and ensuring the continuity of teaching and learning During this reporting period, the Covid-19 pandemic caused interruptions to teaching and learning for extended periods of time in nearly every country in the world. In conflict-affected countries, some governments and organizations ensured that distance learning innovations were extended to children impacted by conflict and those out of school due to attacks on education.
In Burkina Faso, the Minister of Education announced in May 2020 that Covid-19-related distance learning would extend to students affected by conflict.
In Nigeria, in January 2021, the Education in Emergencies Working Group completed the “Safe Schools Declaration Security Agencies Trainers’ Manual and Facilitators’ Guide.” This included forms to provide a situational checklist to guide decisions about when to close or reopen schools in conflict-affected areas. The Ministry of Defence and Education in Emergencies Working group launched the guide in October 2021.
In the EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child, the European Commission’s key actions include “continue allocating 10 percent of humanitarian aid funding for education in emergencies and protracted crises, and promote the endorsement of the Safe Schools Declaration.
