Because it is like. They're in the middle of a war against the apocalypse they're incredibly busy everything is dour Kaidan is the second human Spectre Miles is the first they're both still military officers they're only just getting used to working with each other again after a lot of friction and an incident that saw them drawing guns on each other.

Shit is tense! Romantic entanglement could make things worse between them. Could make things weird. Could be a distraction no one can afford in times like these. Could cause bad optics, could cause people to look down on them/take them less seriously.

There's a lot of serious things to consider with Miles and Kaidan together and they're both really the types to consider all of that and it's a reason they're a little hesitant with each other.

And Kaidan's been out of action most of the game so it's like when he comes back. Race against time #anyway no one wants to fuck up what they have as things are already fragile enough and there's so much to do and there's regs and #does the other even actually like me and oh my god who has time for this crap #Miles has issues with romance and self-love etc. and Kaidan isn't so great at romance and confidence either. #they're both men who under normal circumstances could and would deny themselves forever.
