7 Union Ministers Not Renominated To Rajya Sabha By BJP: What It Means
Seven union ministers whose Rajya Sabha terms end in April have not been re-nominated by the ruling BJP, prompting speculation Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party may field them in the Lok Sabha election that is expected later the same month.
Tumblr media
Among the big names absent are Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya (Gujarat), Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan (Madhya Pradesh), and junior IT Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar (Karnataka).
Also absent are Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav (Rajasthan), and Fisheries Minister Parshottam Rupala (Gujarat), as well as Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Minister Narayan Rane and junior External Affairs Minister V Muraleedharan, both of whom represented Maharashtra.
Sources have told NDTV all seven could now be fielded from Lok Sabha constituencies in various states.
Sources indicate Mr Pradhan may be fielded from Sambalpur or Dheknal in his home state of Odisha, while Mr Yadav may run from Rajasthan's Alwar or Mahendragarh, and Mr Chandrashekhar could contest one of the four seats in Bengaluru; three of these - Central, North, and South - are held by the BJP.
Similarly, Mr Mandaviya may run from Bhavnagar or Surat in Guajrat, while Mr Rupala may get Rajkot. Mr Muraleedharan, meanwhile, may be fielded from his home state of Kerala; the BJP has no presence there, and may look to high-profile names to revive its fortunes.
The BJP has retained only a few big names, in fact, only two union ministers from the Rajya Sabha have been retained - Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw (Odisha) and junior Fisheries Minister L Murugan (Madhya Pradesh). No outgoing MP who has served two or more terms has been repeated.
The only exception is party boss JP Nadda. He though, has been shifted - from Himachal Pradesh, which the Congress won in 2022, to Gujarat. It has also found space for new entrants, including former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, who quit the Congress this week.
Overall, it is all change for the BJP, with only four of 28 outgoing Rajya Sabha MPs renominated. The remaining 24 have reportedly been asked for their preference of Lok Sabha seats.
The party has named 28 candidates to the 56 seats that will fall vacant in April, with the focus on new faces and emphasising - to its leadership structure and the voters - its determination to recognise grassroots workers, even those who not known to the public, while also factoring in social equations.
A notable point is that three of the BJP's new Rajya Sabha MPs - Dharmshila Gupta (Bihar), Medha Kulkarni (Maharashtra), and Maya Naroliya (Madhya Pradesh) - are associated with the women's wing, in keeping with the PM's emphasis on the higher approval the party enjoys among women voters.
The BJP's strategy for the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha elections appears to mirror that for the five Assembly polls in November last year, when the party focused on "collective leadership" and selecting high-profile candidates - including fielding Lok Sabha MPs for state elections - to maximise outreach.
The plan worked well. The BJP swept to power in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, winning the latter two back from the Congress as it dominated its Hindi heartland stronghold.
The BJP is well into its Lok Sabha election prep mode. Party sources said, as early as last month, that National General Secretaries had begun meeting every week (on Tuesdays) to develop strategies, including candidate placement. At one such meet, attended by Home Minister Amit Shah and party boss JP Nadda, the party said it would target first-time voters, beneficiaries of central schemes, and voters from backward classes, as well as young people and women, as it bids for a third consecutive term.

AYODHYA DAIRIES
KK Nair..an unsung hero..
An information which we never knew. A must-know for every Hindu.
Let's remember K.K.Nair, the hero who was responsible for us to get the land of Sri Rama in Ayodhya.
Kandangalam Karunakaran Nair known as K.K.Nair was born on September 7, 1907 in a small village called Gutankadu, Alappuzha, Kerala.
Before India's independence, he went to England and at the age of 21, became a barrister and succeeded in the ICS examination before returning home.
He worked in Kerala for some time and was known for his honesty and bravery and earned a reputation as a servant of the people.
In 1945 he joined Uttar Pradesh state as a civil servant. He served in various posts and was appointed Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Faizabad on June 1, 1949.
Following a complaint that the child Ram Vigraham suddenly appeared in Ayodhya the then Prime Minister Nehru ordered the State Government to investigate and submit a report. The Chief Minister of the state, Govind Vallabh Pant, requested K.K.Nair to go there and make enquiries. Nair asked his subordinate, Shri Guru Dutt Singh, to investigate and submit a report.
Singh went there and presented a detailed report to KK Nair. His report said that Hindus worshiped Ayodhya as the birthplace of Lord Rama (Ram Lalla). But the Muslims were creating problems claiming there was a mosque. His report reiterated that it was a Hindu temple. He suggested that a big temple should be built there. His report said that the Government should allocate land for it and Muslims should be banned from going to that area.
Based on that report Nair issued orders prohibiting Muslims from going within a radius of 500 meters of the temple. (It is noteworthy that neither the government nor the court has been able to lift this ban till date).
Hearing this, Nehru fretted and fumed and got upset. He wanted the State Government to order the immediate evacuation of the Hindus from the area and removal of the Ram Lalla.
The Chief Minister Govind Vallabh Pant ordered Nair to immediately evacuate the Hindus and remove the idol of the Ram Lalla.
But Nair refused to implement the order. On the other hand, he issued another order stating that daily pooja should be performed to Rama Lalla. The order also said that the Government should bear the cost for the pooja and the salary of the priest who performed pooja.
Terrified by this order, Nehru immediately ordered Nair’s removal from service. When dismissed, Nair went to the Allahabad Court and himself argued successfully against Nehru Order of his dismissal.
The Court ordered that Nair should be reinstated and allowed to work in the same place. The Court's order was like smearing Nehru’s face with black ink. Hearing this order, the residents of Ayodhya urged Nair to contest in the elections.
But Nair pointed out that being a Government Servant he could not stand for elections. The residents of Ayodhya wanted Nair's wife to contest. Accepting the people's request, Mrs. Shakuntala Nair entered the fray as a candidate in Ayodhya during Uttar Pradesh's first Legislative Assembly elections.
At that time, the Congress candidates won all over the country. But in Ayodhya alone, the Congress candidate who contested against Nair's wife lost by a margin of several thousands.
Mrs. Shakuntala Nair joined the Jana Sangh in 1952 and started developing the organisation.
A shocked Nehru and the Congress started pressurising Nair. He resigned from his post and started working as an advocate in the Allahabad High Court.
When the elections for the Parliament was announced in the year 1962, the people succeeded in persuading Nair and his wife to contest. They wanted him to speak about Ayodhya before Nehru. People helped the Nair couple to win both Bahraich and Kaisarganj constituencies. It was a historic achievement.
And as a pleasant surprise, even his driver was also elected as a member of the State Legislative Assembly from the Faisalabad constituency.
Later, the Indira regime imposed a state of emergency in the country and arrested the couple and imprisoned them. But their arrest caused a huge uproar in Ayodhya, and a scared Government released them from jail.
The couple returned to Ayodhya and continued their public work. The BJP has always been winning both Assembly and Parliamentary elections from Ayodhya except for one or two times.
Nair was the first to deal with the Ayodhya case after independence. It was entirely handled by him. And even now, the anti-Hindu elements have not been able to change the orders issued by him as an officer.
On the basis of the order issued by Nair the pujas and the darshan of Ram Lalla continue even now.
In 1976, Mr. Nair wanted to return to his hometown. But the people would not allow him to go. However, Nair said goodbye to the people saying that he wanted to be in his hometown during his last days.
Nair surrendered to the lotus feet of Sri Ramachandra Murthy in his hometown on *7th September 1977*. After hearing of his death the residents of Ayodhya shed tears. A group went to Kerala to receive his ashes 🙏
The ashes were received with great respect. They were taken in a decorated chariot and immersed in the Sarayu river near Ayodhya where Lord Rama bathed daily and worshipped the sun 🙏
It is only because of Nair’s efforts that we are able to worship at Sri Rama Janma Bhoomi in Ayodhya. No wonder he is regarded as a *divine person by the people of Ayodhya*.
Would Rama's birthplace become a grand Ram Temple today if not for him ? It is a big question mark 🤔
*May the glory of Shri K.K.Nair, who single-handedly preserved the right of Hindus to worship Shri Rama Lalla till today, ring aloud* 🙏
The *Vishwa Hindu Parishad* has bought land in his native village and erected a memorial for him. It may be noted that a Trust started in the name of K.K Nair provides scholarships and training to students appearing for the civil services examination.
I am ashamed to admit I had never heard about this couple 😔🙏
We are indebted to them for ever 🙏🫡

Sonia Gandhi will surprise everybody in 2024
State elections for 2023 are over and INC (Indian National Congress party) are very happy at capturing power in Telangana and hoping to improve their tally in coming Lok Sabha elections significantly. As the principal opposition party, they must lead from the front.
Change of mind in 2019
Like 2019, months before the election dates are announced, something is quietly happening in the minds of the Gandhi family. Last time, Rahul Gandhi decided to contest from Wayanad in Kerala, apart from his traditional Amethi. The decision to contest from Wayanad was not a sudden one. The results of 2014 were a warning sign for Rahul Gandhi and the mood of the constituency had moved in favour of the BJP candidate Smriti Irani. The 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly election results confirmed that Amethi is not safe for Rahul Gandhi and the search for safe seat begun. And there is strong evidence for that. The twitter handle created for Rahul Gandhi dates back to September 2018. 6 to 7 months prior to election dates were announced. Read More...

One Nation, One Election: A Vision for Streamlining India's Democracy
The proposal for "One Nation, One Election" (ONOE) continues to be a topic of profound interest and debate in India. The concept, which seeks to synchronize Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections across all states, holds the promise of streamlining the electoral process, reducing costs, and fostering effective governance. In this article, we delve deeper into the ONOE proposal, its potential benefits, challenges, and the way forward for India's democratic landscape.
Historical Context:
The historical context of ONOE reflects India's evolving electoral landscape. In the early years following the enforcement of the Constitution in 1950, both Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections were held concurrently, simplifying the electoral process. However, this practice was disrupted in 1959 when the Kerala government was dismissed under Article 356, leading to separate election cycles for the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.
The Law Commission of India (LCI) issued a report in 2018, acknowledging the constitutional and legal complexities of the ONOE proposal. The LCI recommended obtaining the approval of at least 50% of the States for such a transformative change.
Benefits and Challenges:
The ONOE proposal offers several potential benefits. By synchronizing elections, it could reduce the administrative burden on the Election Commission, save substantial costs associated with frequent elections, and create a more conducive environment for effective governance. It also allows political parties to shift their focus from perpetual campaign mode to policy formulation and implementation.
However, the challenges are substantial. Critics question the feasibility of implementing ONOE within the existing constitutional framework, particularly in light of the fixed tenures for the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies outlined in the Constitution. Addressing the possibility of mid-term government collapses and ensuring a clear mechanism for holding fresh elections remain significant hurdles.
Federalism and the concept of India as a Union of States are also subjects of concern. Critics argue that ONOE could potentially alter the balance of power between the central government and state governments, potentially infringing on the autonomy and authority of states.
A Comprehensive Approach:
To move closer to realizing the ONOE proposal, a comprehensive approach is necessary. Engaging legal experts to meticulously assess the required constitutional amendments and developing a contingency plan for handling midterm government collapses are critical steps.
Balancing federalism and centralization is crucial. Dialogue with state governments is necessary to address their concerns and craft a framework that respects federal principles while ensuring national electoral efficiency.
Exploring a hybrid accountability model, which retains staggered elections for select states while implementing ONOE for others, can help maintain distinct accountability mechanisms for national and state issues, ultimately promoting effective governance.
A transparent cost-benefit analysis should be conducted to dispel misconceptions and provide stakeholders with factual data on the financial implications of ONOE.
Conclusion:
The "One Nation, One Election" proposal presents an ambitious vision for India's democracy. While it faces formidable challenges, the concept offers the potential to streamline the electoral process, reduce costs, and enhance governance. The ongoing debate and deliberation serve as a testament to India's vibrant democratic traditions and its ability to adapt and evolve. As India continues to navigate the complexities of its democracy, the ONOE proposal remains a beacon of change and an embodiment of the nation's commitment to effective governance.

Highlights: The Supreme Court canceled the anticipatory bail granted by the Kerala High Court Instruct the High Court to re-examine and resolve this case ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan is accused of being implicated in a false case New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday set aside the anticipatory bail of four accused, including a former Director General of Police (DGP), accused of fraudulently implicating scientist Nambi Narayanan in the 1994 ISRO spying case. In addition, the Supreme Court sent the case back for re-examination by the Kerala High Court and instructed to take a decision as soon as possible within a period of four weeks. A bench comprising Justices MR Shah and CT Ravikumar granted the accused five weeks interim protection from arrest till the High Court decides the case. "All these appeals are allowed. The High Court order granting anticipatory bail is quashed and set aside. All matters are remanded back to the High Court to take a fresh decision on its own merits. The court finds no merit on the part of either party," the bench said. "It is ultimately for the High Court to pass the order. The anticipatory bail applications should be decided at the earliest, within four weeks from the date of this order," the bench said. CBI case The CBI had registered a case against four accused, former DGP of Gujarat RB Sreekumar, two retired police officers from Kerala and a retired intelligence officer for allegedly framing Nambi Narayanan in a false case. He approached the Kerala High Court against this and was granted anticipatory bail. The CBI had sought cancellation of the anticipatory bail, saying it would derail the investigation of the case. The CBI also questioned how the cases were lumped together instead of being heard separately. It had argued that courts can grant bail to accused on the merits of individual cases. Harassment of Nambi Narayanan In 1994, there were explosive allegations that some confidential documents of India's space programs were sent abroad by two scientists and two Maldivian women along with four others. The CBI had said that the Kerala Police had fabricated a story that ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan had stolen and sold non-existent technology in 1994. It alleged that senior officials in Kerala were responsible for Nambi Narayanan's illegal arrest. ALSO READ: Gujarat Assembly Polls: Gujarat Elections: Candidates with criminal background are in the running Sep 2018 On the 14th, the Supreme Court, which had appointed a three-member committee, ordered the Kerala government to pay compensation of Rs 50 lakh to Nambi Narayanan, who suffered extreme humiliation and harassment. An honest account of life and times of Mohsina Kidwai
Looking at the participation of women and especially Muslim women in politics and their representation in the Parliament, it’s surprising to know that only 20 Muslim women have been elected as Members of Parliament since inception.
Tumblr media
She won from Azamgarh, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, in 1978, a year after Congress had suffered a resounding defeat, leaving Nagaur (Rajasthan) and Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh) for Indira Gandhi. And none of its candidates including Sanjay Gandhi could win.
Mohsina Kidwai, the president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, hailing from a conservative, elite Muslim family of Awadh, won. Her success gave a fresh lease of life to Congress. Within no time, once again in 1980, Congress not only back in power but also won a majority in most of the State Assemblies.
Mohsina Qadwai not only saw Indian politics from 1960 to 2016 but was also part of its ups and downs and she described them all in the name of My Life in Indian Politics in Hindi and English.
Her memoirs have been documented by senior journalist and author Rashid Kidwai.
Thereafter Congress remained active under Indira Gandhi and later Rajiv Gandhi till 1989. Both these leaders included Mohsina Kidwai in their cabinets. During her tenure as a union minister, Mohsina handled her work with transparency leaving no scope for allegations of any sort.
She had already served in the Uttar Pradesh cabinet and also led the State unit of the party.
Kidwai presided over Congress in UP in the most difficult times. As AICC General Secretary she tried her best to keep Congress — from Kerala to Himachal, including Bihar and Chhattisgarh, — in power and she was often successful.
Mohsina Kidwai made her debut at the age of 28 when she was elected a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council in 1960. At that time her father-in-law Jamilur Rahman Kidwai was the pillar of Congress politics in Uttar Pradesh.
Interestingly, Mohsina Kidwai’s record as a leader and political career is clean; her family never had to face embarrassment in terms of even allegations of corruption, etc.
She went on to emerge as a staunch Muslim, enlightened, and secular leader. Undoubtedly she had the support of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and above all the encouragement and political guidance of his father-in-law Jameel Kidwai. Those who know her personally, have an appreciation for the role her husband Khalilur Rahman Kidwai played in her rise.
In her case, it was Khaleel Kidwai was the quintessential man behind every woman’s success.
In the book, you will find commendable impressions about famous faces of Indian politics including Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Digvijay Singh, AK Antony, Bhupesh Baghel, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Sharmila Tagore, and Shabana Azmi.
Similarly, Mohsina Kidwai has spoken about her colleagues and contemporaries in detail and to some extent candidly. These include Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Arjun Singh, ND Tiwari, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Pranab Mukherjee, Ahmed Patel, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Chandrashekhar, Devegowda, IK Gujral and Madhavrao Scindia, who worked with him. Sachin Pilot’s name also figures in the book.
It would have been better if she had shed some light on the events and incidents during the time of Rajiv Gandhi and Narasimha Rao, which to some extent led to the downfall of the Congress.
The book portrays Mohsina Kidwai as a sensible and skilled politician; an ideal wife, a good mother, a good sister, and a caring woman for her family.
The choice of words for her daughters and sons-in-law is endearing. She has dedicated the book to her late husband Khalilur Rahman Kidwai. He wrote:
“I dedicate this book to my husband late Khalilur Rahman Kidwai who always inspired me to fly towards my dreams and serve society and the nation. Khalil, your Rooh (soul) has always been with me.
Mohsina Kidwai and her biographer Rashid Kidwai not only belong to the Kidwai family of Barabanki but both of them are related to Maulana Abdul Majeed Dariyabadi, whom the former called Dada. Dada happened to be the maternal grandfather of Rasheed Kidwai.
Like Mohsina Kidwai has left her mark as a determined and strong leader, Rashid Kidwai has done a yeoman’s work in journalism and as an author.
Anyway, thank you Mohsina Kidwai for sharing important developments of Indian politics and her life on her 90th birthday, and to Rasheed Kidwai Kidwai for bringing it to the fore.
This book has been published in English and Urdu and should be translated into Hindi for more people to read. This biography is an honest account of not only Kidwai’s journey but of an era of Indian politics.
