what is this?

the wicked way exchange is a secret a series of unfortunate events fanwork event, where you create an asoue fanfic or fanart for someone, and someone else makes a fanfic or fanart for you.

when you sign up, you provide a list of prompts you would like to see fanwork made for. then you’re given someone else’s prompts to make a fanwork for them. you only know who you’re making a work for, not who got you or anyone else, so everything is a surprise! all the work and who got who is revealed on posting day.

how long does it run for?

sign-ups: january 25th-february 4th matching: february 5th-10th start: february 11th deadline: march 25th grace period/extensions: march 26th-april 1st post: april 2nd

you have a little over a week to complete the sign up form! the link will be posted tomorrow, january 25th. take your time filling it out! it will ask what kind of work you’d like to make (what characters you like to create for, your preferences in creating), and what kind of work you’d like to get (your preferences when interacting with fanwork, what prompts you want someone to make work for), so that I can try and match everyone up in a way that you get to make something you’ll enjoy making, and you’ll get something you’ll enjoy. the ideal outcome is that everyone gets a piece of fanwork that is as perfect as possible for them.

assignments are given out by: february 11th

depending on how long it takes me to match everyone up! then you can start working on your fanwork. don’t tell anyone who you got, especially not your recipient! keep it a secret!!

work deadline: march 25th

your fanwork has to be submitted TO THIS TUMBLR by march 25th, so I have confirmation that you’ve completed your work. this is not the posting date! this is the deadline to make sure everyone’s work is completed, and that you’re ready to post your work the following week.

there’s a week between the deadline and the posting date as a little grace period, in case anyone needs an extension to finish their work. feel free to ask for an extension if you need it! no shame at all!! but otherwise, the work should be finished and submitted to me by march 25th.

to submit your work to me, just shoot me a direct message with your work in it – as a file attachment, or a google doc, or anything like that – so I have proof that you have made what you were supposed to and you’re ready to post.

we post our fanwork! we rejoice! we celebrate!! we feast on our hard work!!!!! everybody gets a piece of fanwork and we all get to enjoy it!

is there any sort of minimum word count for fanfic, or similar requirement for fanart?

although short fics can be some absolute classics, the fanfic word minimum is 1,000 words. feel free to go over that! but it should be at least 1,000 words.

you CAN do two or more short fics (for the same prompt, or for more than one) that together equal the 1,000 words minimum, if you’re somebody who works better with less words.

for fanart, the minimum requirement is less strict, because art is Art, but definitely more than just a sketch! it does not have to be colored, but it does have to look Finished.

yes! edits are allowed as fanart!! the minimum requirement for edits is two edits. as in, for whichever prompt you pick to do for your recipient, you would make at least two edits.

remember that when you make a work, that you’re making something for someone else, and it has to communicate a story, or a vibe, or a situation, or a feeling, whatever was asked for in the prompt. you do have a certain amount of free reign, in deciding what will best fill the prompt and how to create it! but it should satisfy what the prompt has asked. I don’t say this to stress you out or anything! but as a reminder that you’re making something special for a real person out there, who is expecting something special.

is there anything I can’t request or create?

as usual, to make this event open and comfortable for everyone, you cannot request or create explicit content. also as always, sibling romance and age gaps will not be tolerated.

if something comes up and I have to leave the exchange, is that okay?

yes, absolutely! just PLEASE tell me as soon as possible, so that I can arrange for someone else to have your recipient. send me a message or an ask or an email, there will be no shame or judgment or disappointment from me, just please let me know.
