Gunmen target mosque in eastern Pakistan, killing 2, including militant linked to anti-India group
Tumblr media
Gunmen Attack Mosque in Eastern Pakistan, Killing Two Two gunmen entered a mosque in Daska, eastern Pakistan, on Wednesday, opening fire on worshippers. The assailants took the lives of Shahid Latif, a member of an outlawed anti-India militant group, and another unidentified man before making their escape, authorities report. Local police have disclosed that the gunmen initially posed as worshipers before revealing their firearms inside the mosque. Their gunfire targeted Shahid Latif, a close associate of Masood Azhar, the founder of the Jaish-e-Mohammad militant organization. Another worshiper, whose identity remains undisclosed, also lost his life in the attack. While no one has claimed responsibility for the assault, local police chief Hassan Iqbal suggests it was a deliberate targeting of Shahid Latif. However, further details regarding the incident were not provided. In the past, New Delhi has held Jaish-e-Mohammad responsible for various attacks in India, including the 2016 assault that claimed the lives of seven soldiers at a base in Pathankot, northern India. Officials from New Delhi have yet to comment on the recent attack, but media reports in India suggest Shahid Latif was sought in connection with the Pathankot attack. In 2016, Pakistani authorities initiated a case against "unknown suspects" after Indian investigators claimed that phone intercepts indicated the Pathankot attackers had come from Pakistan. Pakistan and India have a history of strained relations, with three wars between them since gaining independence from Britain in 1947. Two of these conflicts were over Kashmir, a disputed Himalayan region claimed by both nations in its entirety. Read the full article

On The Eve Of 2001 Parliament Attack: Masood Azhar, The Mastermind Of The 2001 Parliament Attack, Is In The Protective Custody Of The Pakistan Army
He joined the Soviet-Afghan Jihad even though he failed in his training. He had to retire due to injuries. Following his retirement, he was appointed head of Harkat’s motivation department.
Masood Azhar became the general secretary of Harkat-ul-Ansar and travelled to numerous countries to recruit, raise funds, and disseminate the doctrine of Pan-Islamism. Zambia, Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, Mongolia, the United Kingdom, and Albania were among his destinations. The BBC describes him as “the man who brought jihad to Britain.”
Azhar flew to Srinagar under a fictitious identity in early 1994 to soothe tensions between Harkat-ul-Ansar’s feuding groups, Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen. In February, India apprehended him in Khanabal, near Anantnag, and imprisoned him for his terrorist actions with the organisations.

Arrests made in connection to mosque attack targeting anti-India militant in Pakistan
Tumblr media
Pakistan Arrests Suspects in Mosque Attack In a recent development, Pakistan has announced the arrest of several suspects involved in the killing of a member of an outlawed anti-India militant group during an attack inside a mosque. This incident occurred earlier this week, and the arrests were made in multiple raids over the past two days. The attack took place in the city of Daska, located in the eastern Punjab province. Two gunmen entered a mosque and opened fire on worshippers. Tragically, three individuals lost their lives in the attack, including Shahid Latif, a member of the outlawed anti-India militant group. Latif was known to be closely associated with Masood Azhar, the founder of the Jaish-e-Mohammad militant group. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but local police suspect that Latif was intentionally targeted. The investigation into this incident is ongoing. According to Usman Anwar, the police chief of eastern Punjab province, a hostile spy agency from a foreign country is believed to be behind this attack. Authorities are working to uncover more details related to this matter. Jaish-e-Mohammad, the militant group with connections to the victim, has been accused by neighboring India of carrying out multiple attacks on Indian soil in the past. One notable incident includes the 2016 attack in which seven soldiers were killed at a base in the town of Pathankot in northern India. It's important to note that Pakistan and India have a long history of strained relations. Since gaining independence from Britain in 1947, the two South Asian nations have engaged in three wars, two of which were over Kashmir, a disputed Himalayan region claimed by both countries in its entirety. The situation remains complex and sensitive, with ongoing efforts to address these longstanding conflicts. Read the full article
