The ‎athletic apparel giant are reportedly fuming after it emerged the 25-year-old is looking to launch a clothing brand dubbed 'Max 1.' Verstappen is contracted with Red Bull until 2028 - and it is believed he was keen to explore post-motorsport deals when his deal ends. A clothing brand was at the top of the list, but Nike feels his proposed name is too similar to their 'Nike: Air Max' footwear. A report from the region's trademark agency - The Benelux Office for Intellectual Property -  confirmed an investigation is underway following a formal complaint from Nike. Two-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen is already preparing for life beyond the grid - but has found a potential road block in the form of Nike The ‎athletic apparel giant have lodged a formal complaint after it emerged the 25-year-old is looking to create a clothing brand dubbed 'Max 1' Nike feel Verstappen's proposed brand is too similar to their 'Nike: Air Max' footwear label As well as concerns around the name's similarity, Nike are also up in arms over styling issues. The report states: 'Both signs contain the word MAX, albeit in a different place.' 'In the trademarks invoked, the elements AIR and MAX have equal weight in the overall impression. In the contested sign, the emphasis is on the word MAX. 'The number 1 will be regarded as a specification of MAX. To that extent the signs agree. 'The goods in question (Nike and Max) are partly identical and partly similar. 'The complaint goes onto read that 'visually and aurally, there is a certain degree of similarity between the signs.' 'Based on these, the other factors mentioned and given their interdependence, the Office considers that there is a likelihood of confusion in the sense that the public may believe that the goods covered by the trade marks invoked and those of the contested sign belong to the same undertaking or, as the case may be, from economically linked companies,' the complaint continued. 'Since it is common practice in the clothing sector for the same mark to be configured in different ways, the relevant public might also think that the contested sign is a sub-mark of the opponent (Nike).' Verstappen is looming large to snare a third successive F1 drivers' championship in 2023. He blitzed the field to win the season opener in Bahrain and finished second in the recent Saudi Arabia race behind Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez. The podium finish was impressive given Verstappen qualified in 15th spot after a broken drive shaft. He is the $1.32 favourite with Sportsbet to win the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday at Albert Park in Melbourne.
