So one restriction that I’m going to have on my upcoming class 1 aviation medical is that every six months, regardless of when I’ve last gone in to see a aviation medical doctor for renewing my medical, I have to go to my family doctor and get them to write a letter to Transport Canada. This letter has to detail that I’m still on the same meds, at the same dose, and that my depression is still “cured”. Little do they seem to know, depression is lifelong, and can be managed, it can be in remission, but it never is “cured” in the true sense of the word. So that’s silly, but I digress. ⁣ ⁣ Every six months! What an absolute waste of my family doctor’s time, my own money (those letters aren’t cheap to get your physician to write!), and it doesn’t really add any degree of safety to the aviation medical system. Ideally, you should have this sort of checkup once a year with your aviation medical doctor, so Transport receives ONE, comprehensive update. ⁣ ⁣ Another criticism of this setup is that I am not allowed to change my medication type, or dosage. Anyone with half a 🧠 knows that with mental illness, sometimes you have to be flexible with your meds. You need to have the option to lower your dose under supervision if you ever want to try to get off your meds, which is a goal of many. But NOPE, Transport doesn’t want you to do silly things like lower your dosage. You MUST stay on your current dose, FOREVER, or face the wrath of bureaucracy and have to be grounded for an indeterminate time yet again. ⁣ ⁣ I cannot mentally comprehend why this system was put into place. Bunch of unscientific garbage. ⁣ ⁣ ✈︎ ✈︎ ✈︎ ⁣ posted on Instagram - https://instagr.am/p/CQHoEyRBZlC/
