okay so I’m traveling today but

does anyone have. Something they would have liked to hear from the village on Timber Hearth. Additional dialogue from any npc. I am very slowly working on a mod and I cannot emphasize the slowly part of that enough but I mostly have the travelers stuff down and I’m adding things for the village. …canon compliant, I gotta add. My goal is something that fits the rest of the game

aaAAH I commissioned @vaspider for a lemur Hawaiian shirt and it came today (faster than I was expecting! I didn’t think it’d make it here ‘til May) and it’s good! The pattern is great (I asked for black and white ruffed lemurs specifically because I love them, and the pride flag flowers so it’s stealth pride) it’s a nice lightweight fabric.

I won’t keep gushing about it but new favorite shirt

hi i think i gotta get this out into the world because i cant just ramble in perpetuity to Friend Feef

okay i am going to preface this with This Is Not Ship Hate this is Poison finally figuring out why this is (her specific, personally) disliked ship

So let’s start with Amatonormativity! Roughly, it refers to how society at large puts a heavy focus on romantic relationships (especially at the expense of platonic relationships).

Romantic relationships are placed at a higher tier, they’re more valuable, a friend is ‘just’ a friend but a partner is a partner and therefore better and must take priority.

Yeah So if you clicked here and saw the ship thing and want me to get to a point I’m talking about hatchling/Gabbro. I do not like it. That’s not a moral judgement it’s a Poison’s personal feelings.

And I realized. It’s because the ship, to me, is ‘we went through hell together and after all that now we’re into each other!’ or ‘No one else understands what happened except for you and therefore we’re the only ones for each other’ mostly because there’s no real indication that they were really friends or knew each other super well before the time loops (Hal- who we know, hatchling knew well, says ‘You remember Gabbro plays a flute, right? Like, all the time?’ which sounds like they didn’t know each other well)

and like. It might just be because i’m aromantic and asexual. but i don’t like that. I prefer, ‘we went through hell and no one understands except you and trying to explain is never really gonna work, no one will maybe ever fully understand, and this bond is going to be strong and like this forever- but it’s not romantic, you’re not my type, you prefer X, we can have our partners and be friends like this and there’s no issues’

‘Poison you’re saying don’t ship them!’ no I’m not, I’m saying I’m not going to. I don’t care what y’all do as long as you’re not insisting it’s anything other than for fun. ‘Poison you’re saying its a bad ship!’ no i’m not, I’m saying I don’t like it. That doesn’t make it bad.

I spent twentyish minutes yesterday running around scaring the villagers so fruits of my labor

So, Moraine doesn’t react (too busy with the signalscope) and Gossan doesn’t react (knows you wouldn’t dare do something to your flight coach on the day you’re supposed to launch) and most of the travelers don’t react (...I didn’t check all of them but).

Slate stands up, which is interesting, but they don’t let go of the marshmallow stick unrelated I was assuming Hearthians have an overall similar bodyplan but a couple of these made me realize they have longer upper legs than lower legs

...so uh I am not tech literate and any weird things on the pictures are uh. cause i just. took pictures with my phone. rather than. screenshotted things

That’s a disappointed parental figure if I ever saw one

Gneiss doesn’t bring the banjo! Which is interesting, I don’t think it’s part of their figure/rig/whatever

So Spinel does dodge forward but they don’t stop ‘fishing’ despite the rod not moving with them- they’re the only person who reacts but doesn’t try to cover their head.

Arkose actually finishes their throwing animation before ducking- I thought for  a second they didn’t respond to it.

...That pickaxe is going through their head, it doesn’t leave their hand. Also. It might be this angle but I’m wondering if they have a prosthetic knee in a weird place, with where their normal knee is.

Shoutout to Esker who doesn’t drop a note whistling when I shot the scout at them.

hey i’m a few years late to the party with probably a really obvious observation but

The quantum shards on the different planets are because of Dark Bramble, aren’t they

Planet 5 is infected-> Dark Bramble breaks it into pieces-> no one is around or observing to see the Quantum Moon, which gets hit directly by the explosion-> shards break off the moon-> because no one’s around to observe the moon isn’t locked into any one spot and shards break off at all locations, except the just broken Dark Bramble-> you have quantum shards from the moon on all the planets

that also explains why there’s two separate shards on Timber Hearth- two pieces of debris hit

why? Brain is Bad

It’s Outer Wilds Tacos and Outer Wilds Mechanics- despite the names on paper they’re unrelated businesses. Slate owns/is the primary mechanic for the Mechanics. They’re usually pretty busy, but they do all the work on the taco trucks. Esker is their secondary mechanic (when that gets too busy) or the cashier/phones/general ‘I’m here what do you want’ person. They used to help out with the taco trucks, but since the trucks have gotten more people they’re not called on to help as much anymore they’re not lonely sh

Feldspar and Gossan co-founded Outer Wilds Tacos and generally run a truck together. They’ve gotten a lot more popular than they planned, so they’ve expanded a little- they have a few trucks now a days. Gabbro was the first helper- they’re a professor at Local University (...college town) (Physics and philosophy, both) and they’re part time with the trucks for weed money. You cannot call Gabbro to come in on a day off. They are either at their day job or probably stoned.

Chert was next- they work at the local observatory outside of town, and they’re part time for extra cash. Riebeck is a full time archeology student at Local University and full time with the trucks to help pay for that. Hatchling is newest hire, they’re full time while they figure their life out.

Hornfels is a part time astronomy professor, but also is kinda the manager for both Outer Wilds businesses- they do all the payrolls, orders, shifts, booking appointments for everything, all that. Slate Esker and Gossan can (and will) handle that but Hornfels is good with numbers and they’re happy to let them do most of the heavy lifting.

Hal is at Local University and working at a library both; they start frequenting the taco trucks when Hatchling starts working.

Porphy runs ‘Sap,’ a brewery with a huge wine list, and a frequent Outer Wilds Tacos spot; the truck’s there four days out of the week generally, and Gossan’s always there. Both of them think no one has noticed them flirting. Everyone has noticed they’re flirting. No one wants to say anything. Someone put together a ‘this taco goes best with this wine’ menu specifically for Sap days.

(After talking about it with Friend Feef on and off all day) The Nomai run franchised food trucks- I do think their name would just be ‘Greek Food’ but that’s what they sell. It’s really good, though, and they tend to have a bunch of vegetarian options. And really good baklava. One of their more popular items is ‘Eye of the gyro-verse’ which, among the normal ingredients, has whole olives on it. If there’s an even with a bunch of food trucks someone from Outer Wilds will be sent over to the Nomai truck with tacos to trade for a gyro and baklava.

The Owlks (mostly) run hot dog carts with tons of available toppings- Stranger Sausages- that people think is a front for something. They never go under, despite never making a lot of visible sales. They also seem to take ‘vegetarian options’ as a threat, but they do generally have something. Despite the name and overall demeanor, the sausages are high quality.

The Prisoner runs their own buisness- like, a drive in movie theater type thing. It started perking up once Outer Wilds Tacos started working there once a week- they’re doing better than the hot dog carts now.

Finally, Outer Wilds Tacos has a signature dessert taco- waffle cone shaped like a taco shell, chocolate, toasted marshmallows. Optionally ice cream (...Feef is gonna make that, and tell me how it tastes). Getting those is Porphy’s excuse for wandering over every half hour when it’s slow.

Little irritation as I’m fic writing but

the overall Nomai timeline? The DLC timeline? You can figure that out, it’s not that convoluted, you just need all the pieces together and for the ATP they flat tell you what it is

The Hearthian’s timeline? There’s nothing. Feldspar was the first astronaut and you’re somewhere in the barely an adult but not but are area and that’s it, that’s all you get. What’s the launch order of the other astronauts? How old is everyone? How long did it take going from testing to Feldspar out flying to everyone else? How long have people been out in space, Riebeck sounds like they havent been home for a while but that’s open to interpretation!

(mostly from conversation with Feef)

Tektite is a retired (volunteer) firefighter, and an active park ranger. The reason they’re still active is Marl, local Issue who has Issues with One Specific Tree. Tektite is the only person capable of talking them out.

Gneiss is a retired doctor. The two are on again/off again, and live in Gabbro’s apartment/condo complex (Granite is Gabbro’s new roommate so that area gets more attention)(they needed a place and Gabbro’s other other other hobby is taking in strays)

(Don’t remember if I said it already)(this is from Hollows on discord and you have a tumblr and for the life of me i dont remember what it is) Rutile runs the parks and rec in the area- they’ll put on festivals and events that the taco truck goes to.

There’s, three trucks, now? The first one is the smallest, no one really loves working in it except Feldspar, no one is comfortable working in it except Feldspar, Gossan and Chert. The other two are larger- Chert and Riebeck work together (Chert is in charge, is the chef, is the driver, Riebeck has the neatest hand to write things down and is good once they get into the flow of it) and Gabbro and Granite work together (newbie with the most experienced person who isn’t Feldspar Gossan or Esker) Gabbro and Chert can work together (Gabbro takes cooking and Chert has to deal with people) but Chert and Granite or Gabbro and Riebeck all work fine. Riebeck and Granite barely manage to keep their heads above water but since Chert and Gabbro are both part time sometimes that’s just how it goes (Granite cooks, Riebeck takes orders, because Riebeck burns things when they’re nervous)

Gossan is still down an eye, here. There was a manufacturer’s defect with the truck (brake line wasn’t attached correctly) and it failed while Feldspar was driving them. Truck hit a tree, Gossan lost an eye and broke an arm and several ribs, Feldspar got ejected from  the truck entirely. Gossan was awake after a couple days, and no one knew where Feldspar was for three weeks (assumed they were dead)(was going to be brought to the morgue soon to maybe id a body?) until Gossan recognized a scar on a Mx Doe in the coma ward (medically induced coma). Feldspar was woken up a week after, and still isn’t medically cleared to drive

Buddy Feef’s hatchling Graphite is an aquarium employee with an unhealthy fixation on Feldspar and Slate, who they see as Immortal and a Mechanical God (Feldspar used to do (illegal) drag racing and they did crash but never badly enough to take them off the track more than a month, they won money but they would have done it for free)(Slate hot rodded their cars). Feldspar is fond of them, in a ‘hey so if you go totally limp right before you hit you won’t break every bone in your body’ ‘I know i was just doing that but don’t you dare’ kinda way.

Graphite and Granite both are learning parkour because Feldspar is still doing it (more carefully)

I do have. Rough permanent menu figured out. And Feef wants to draw one of the trucks and this has taken over my brain

that post just reminded me how there are people who literally think that all the planets in the outer wilds system orbit that fast and are literally only bare kilometres away from each other. i've even seen some people *acknowledge* that that's ridiculous but then go on to say it's still true because physics literally works different in that system or something - for a given value, sure, dark bramble and etc but. what

I hope this is an April fools joke cause I am this person

it’s unrealistic but it’s how the game is and changing things to match real world physics looses part of the game’s charm I think
