Day 3. What if?

Some have already explored this idea, and I wanted to do so as well. Mostly because I wanted to draw Zen and Mon hugging because I love brotherly stuff uuugh.

What if Zenyatta would have been there to save Mondatta on the last minute? I’ll call this Truly Alive AU.

In this AU: ⦁ Genji and Zenyatta met like they do in canon. By the time Mondatta’s assassination attempt happens though, Genji has already left the monastery to search for his brother. Zenyatta never left the Shambali and accompanied Mondatta on his travels instead. Thus he was there to save his brother. ⦁ Genji has the talk with his brother and makes his way back to Zenyatta after he hears about the assassination-attempt to protect the two omnics. He feels guilty not being there to stop the assassin the first time. ⦁ Tracer was able to stop Widowmaker and she was taken to custody. The sniper was soon broken out from the prison by Talon though. When Zenyatta heard that she was out, he demanded Mondatta to go into hiding to protect him, but the elder Tekhartha refused, stating that if he went into hiding it would be a defeat on itself. He got into a huge fight with Zenyatta who left his brother’s side, upset. This almost cost Mondatta his life again as Talon attacked one of his speeches again and took him as a hostage instead. Overwach, alongside Genji and Zenyatta, were able to save him in time however. ⦁ After this, Zenyatta and Genji joined OW, and Mondatta went to hiding, understanding that as long as Talon was around, he would be a target. He returned back to Shambali and tried to wait for the second Omnic-crisis to be over. ⦁ But seeing how his brother was risking his life on the battlefield every day, Mondatta shed his leadership-status and joined OW to fight alongside his brother. Many of his followers saw this as betrayal of Mondatta’s own words of finding peace with words, but Mondatta simply stated that if by fighting he could keep his brother from being killed, he would fight till the end of the world if needed. This cost him some followers, but in return he gained double that amount. ⦁ After the second omnic-crisis, he returned to his old life, walked his brother to the altar on his wedding, became a beloved uncle for Zenyatta’s and Genji’s adopted kids and lived to spread his word to the world to his very last artificial breath. Whether he himself found someone to love and got married, I haven’t decided yet.
