How are you rethinking design for HTWG?
Tumblr media
This is a screenshot of part of my content analysis project, but it shows details I’m choosing to use in my How to Write Guide. Here, I’m keeping consistent fonts and layout of images. In the How to Write Guide, organized, clear content is essential. I will not use large paragraphs like I did in the above, but keeping placement of headers, sub-headers, and imagery consistent will be a main goal.

Original Content Week 11
what does your final revision process look like?
My final revision process has a few steps. First, I read through the project and look back at the instructions to ensure I included everything. Then I make edits for cohesiveness and reread it. After that, I make grammatical edits as I see needed. I find feedback from others to be very helpful so, to wrap it all up, I usually ask one of my roommates to read over it and make sure it sounds the way I want it to.

Content Strategy Lesson 2
While completing my Content Analysis Project, the importance of audience and audience's interest was very clear. This connects with my previous lesson about timing, but in the context of sports, a professional sports organization twitter account must recognize that fans want to feel connected to other fans. Creating many posts during a live game can help encourage discussion among fans and promote the feeling that they're all watching the game together. This knowledge about fanbases allowed for an increased level of engagement among posts that effectively used this strategy.

Meaningful Content
I will be embedding videos and images that I found helpful throughout my process as well as any content pieces I have created. This will be meaningful because it is a great way to have all the information accessible. Having embedded documents and information is very helpful because it will encourage the audience to stay on the page and to pay attention. If an audience leaves with more questions than they had going in, then the entire point of the document has been missed. Answering the questions an audience has is the best way to have your content be meaningful.

What does your final revision process look like?
My final revision process includes grammar, checking, adding more data detail, and lengthening my explanations on my data analysis. All of my feedback has a common theme of explaining more throughout my project and that is what I will work on for the final analysis project.

Happy Week 11!
I'm not sure how to make the H2WG work for all three of my creators. My research question is about their YouTube thumbnails, but they each have a very slight variation that I think sets them apart from each other. I don't think it would be a good idea for all of them to make the exact same style of thumbnail so I don't know how I should solve this dilemma.

what did you learn about content strategy that you want to highlight in your How to Write Guide.
This is probably different for everyone but I felt the biggest take away for me personally, is the connection to the audience. I know you cannot actually strategize connection. It has to be genuine. I just feel that the reason most of the audience is following is specifically for that content creator and who they are, how they talk, the way they smile or dress or laugh. So I highlighted a bit on genuine connection in my HTWG.

Thursday Check-In Week 11
What questions can I answer about shifting your language from academic to content creator?
Being that I write so many articles in the arts and culture kind of section, I feel like my web writing in terms of content creation is not too far off. One question I would ask is what I can improve on and what parts of my writing are too academic and not enough content creation. I know that there is always room for improvement and there is such a thing as too much fluff so I really want to figure out a perfect in between.

What does your final revision process look like?
Typically, my final revision process includes reading out loud whatever I have written. This helps me check if it makes sense when reading through it, but also lets me know what I still need to finish. Even though it is a final revision, I don't normally have my conclusion completed, so I make my final points and summaries after I reread the paper just to make sure I am pulling the most crucial information for the conclusion. For this final revision, my process is similar, but I am also constantly referencing the feedback I received on the drafts to make corrections to my work. Since this project is focused more on application towards an audience than just dumping information, I also am rereading to make sure that my audience will be able to understand my writing style and information I am providing them. I check to make sure the information flows in a meaningful way and that I am not leaving out anything important.

Moving Forward
In relation to this class, having a good revision process now will help when I have to rethink assignments or content that I create. Ideally, you want your best work to be seen however, sometimes you need to go back a few times to make sure you don't miss anything or need to add anything. In addition, I can take this process into other writing assignments at school so that I create a routine for when certain mistakes or patterns come up.

Rethinking Style for my H2WG!
To design my How to Write Guide I will be using a template on canva. I think Canva is the most time efficient option. For almost every assignment in this class I have been designing my work on google docs/slides. While I do like how they turned out I want to improve the design by customizing the colors and fonts of a pre existing template on Canva. I often overthink formatting especially when told to “have fun with it” because I never know where to start. Since content creators are to some extent, creative people, I want to have a concise design that makes you want to read it.

what does your final revision process look like?
As we’re approaching the deadline for the project, I figured I would answer this question! In order to have a quality project, I will be reading the entire project out loud. That way, if there are any mistakes, I will be able to spot them and correct them. In addition, I will put my slides into presentation mode to make sure that the formatting is done correctly.

The style of the how to write guide is sure to be completely different from the content analysis. The content analysis is meant to be an academic research paper, and while it is structured a bit less formally and encouraged to include more multimodal elements than your standard research paper, it is still a research paper at the end of the day. The how to write guide, by contrast, is meant for content creators themselves, rather than an academic audience. Short blocks of text and lots of multimodal elements are key to making this guide engaging and captivating for its target audience.

Thursday Check-in Post #11
What questions can I answer about shifting your language from academic to content creator? @npfannen
Should I be using abbreviations for words? I know for some essays before I spelt out the word as it is seems more formal and well it helped with the word count too. But I'm not sure if that is the case here. Also I was wondering if I should spell out numbers instead of just putting them there. Very small questions but I feel like I'm good to go otherwise.

H2W Style
I am thinking about creating a website as the format for my How To Write Guide. I believe that this will be a very beneficial way to create this guide as it will be much more interactive than the traditional format of a written document (such as Word or Google Docs). This will also mean that the guide is much more accessible to a broader audience, allowing people to find it by simply looking it up online. I want this to be accessible and interactive, with embedded videos and diagrams. My main goal with the website is to have it be easy to read and interact with.

What did you learn about content strategy that you want to highlight in your how to write guide?
Something that I have learned about content strategy is that Contant strategy connects to audience. For this reason, content strategy should be purposeful. I think it is important to highlight this in my how to write guide, because without understanding why it should be purposeful, the audience reading my how to write guide won’t understand and could result in them posting extra content that isn’t purposeful to that suggested audience.
