I always assumed, re: Dune worms, that it was like a Legolas-On-The-Oliphaunt situation? Where they just slide off the back? But now I'm suddenly filled with doubt.....

For single riders: YES absolutely.

However Dune Part 2 introduced the concept of Lady Jessica in her little tent--is she getting thrown from the worm? Does she yeet herself?
