My replaying chapter 1 + the newest girl girl post from the ARG made me have a bit of a retrospection on Susie, particularly when it comes to a certain analysis of her character in chapter 1 (and one I used to agree with). That being “She only bullied reactively.”

Susie DOES bully when provoked, that much is true. But thats only part of a larger truth. It doesn’t fully account for all the times she thrashes Darkners indiscriminately, or how she threatens not only Kris but Lancer as well. What’s also important is that Chapter 1 makes a BIG point of showing that Susie’s guard is CONSTANTLY up — she even admits this as a flaw of hers near the end of the chapter. It’s why she immediately assumes the worst of Kris during the hallway scene in the beginning (and then threatens them with the whole face-eating bit) — and also why she reacts so horribly to Lancer imprisoning her, Ralsei, and Kris.

So really a more accurate read of her character would be “Susie does bully and threaten when provoked — but she views EVERYTHING as a provocation.”

(It doesn’t hurt that she’s suddenly found herself with an axe in the Dark World, so now she has a substantial means to inflict hurt on anyone she thinks might even remotely have a reason to threaten her)
