*how episode wouldve ended if they looked a little deeper*
julia: "Inspector, could you check your left, inside pocket?"
chase: "ugh, if it pleases yWHAT-"
and then they wouldve also seen him act this out Very Publicly to a woman that is Not Carmen Sandiego which would help them for future investigations at least
LOOK AT THE DUDE YOURE FOLLOWING PLS
mime bomb didnt even keep the 26 cents tigress gave him lol
((tw: talk about the taking care of witnesses rule)) if tigress can rip up an entire article of clothing without chase even feeling a tug, then i hate to imagine how swift she takes care of witnesses tbh
SHE JUST LIFTED AN ENTIRE MAN OUT OF A CAR WINDOW, N NOT THE ONE CLOSEST TO HIM.
((tw: mention of rule again)) also this victim was a witness. he saw her face. is she gonna come back to him orrr???

SoMa Week 2021 Day One: Burn
Pairing: SoMa (Soul x Maka)
Fandom: Soul Eater
Note: This is my first time participating in SoXa week! Also its my finals week so im stressed about tests and my second vaccine dose is kicking my butt but I thought instead of studying, lets write a fic. I’ve been really into soul eater recently and started the manga, so you’ll see some new fics for it here and there. Anyways, enjoy!
@soulxmakaweek
---
Her view of love had burnt out a long time ago. She was hopeful at times to think someone could be loyal and love her for eternity but that fear of being left behind and abandoned again would destroy any hope of that.
She had thought it was written in stone. From a young age she didn’t think about marriage, didn’t care about relationships because she wasn’t willing to risk the burn marks on her heart for just a sliver of satisfaction. There was nothing anyone could say to her to change her mind, she knew that, more importantly, he knew that.
But slowly that mindset started to challenge her heart. The moment she asked Soul to be her partner when they were teenagers, she felt a spark. It was small and only lasted a fraction of a second when he said yes and gave her a smirk she dared not say she liked. For a moment she had forgotten about her pact, never fall in love, but it came back quickly as it left.
She repeated those words more frequently than not. The mirror had begun to memorize the movement of her lips as she looked at herself and scolded anything that remotely resembled a romantic interest.
Every so often a brave boy would come up to her with a card and some flowers and try his hand at Maka’s heart. She would be as kind as possible to turn them down but she never missed the way Soul’s lips turned up into a smirk. Soon she was seen as untouchable, no one could woo her or they would be too threatened by Soul to even try.
It was a relief to Soul to see boys not trying to win over Maka but a part of him wondered if she would ever let herself fall for anyone.
--
“Do we really have to go to this dance?” Soul grumbled as he fixed his tie for the tenth time.
Maka sighed from the bathroom. “Yes Soul. Its our duty as successful students to make an appearance. Plus I heard that there is going to be good food.”
Soul rolled his eyes as he plopped onto the couch. “Its been five years since we graduated, do people even care about us?” He smirked as he heard her scoff from the hallway.
“No, Im sure no one cares about the current death weapon or the amazing person who not only made said weapon but is also one of the best teachers at the academy.”
“Relax Maka, I’m just teasing. Now hurry up or we are gonna be late and I am not about to be scolded by Kid for that.”
“Alright.” She huffed and finished her makeup with a swipe of lip gloss. “I’m coming. How do I look?” She asked.
It was a simple question, one he was used to answering often with a “fine. good. who cares, lets go.” But lately he's been trying to hold in his actual thoughts.
Maka stared at him, those olive green eyes that he became more attracted to lately. There was an untacked about chemistry that had been hovering around them for the past few years and slowly, he was loosing the battle on keeping it in place.
Her dress was black with off the shoulder sleeves and cut off mid-thigh. Something classy and elegant but still fun to twirl in. Her heels boosted her to his eye level and her hair was up in an updo with some blonde framing her face.
“Soul?” She asked him and he cleared his throat before grabbing his keys.
“Uh, you look perfect. We should really be going.” Way to be cool about it, he scolded himself.
Maka grabbed her purse and followed him out the door. Deep down she could feel a small spark of desire flare but quickly, she pushed it down and got into the car.
--
The dance was nothing less than perfection. Every dish, napkin, balloon and streamer was in a proper place with symmetry as its main function. Kid apparently had spent a week decorating the place himself just to insure that it was nothing less than his standards.
“He really out did himself, huh?” Soul commented as he looked around the room.
“He sure did.” Maka said.
There were a mix of students and faculty on the dance floor already. Kid was standing towards the back with Black Star while Tsubaki, Patty and Liz were chatting near them.
“It brings me back to when you forced me to these thing when we were kids.” Soul said as they made their way across the room.
Maka laughed. “Guess things haven’t changed much.”
They parted ways, Soul going towards the guys and Maka joining the girls.
“Oh Maka you look so cute!” Patty complimented her.
Maka smiled. “You all look so good too.”
Liz finished her drink before looking towards the boys. “I bet Soul likes this number on you.” She winked and Maka took a glass on a near by tray and gulped it down.
“Aww don’t tease the clueless love birds.” Tsubaki giggled.
“There nothing to tell.” Maka tried to reason but none of the girls believed her for a moment. “I’m not even his type.” She rushed out and Liz almost started to choke on her drink.
“Are you kidding? The smartest girl in the school, no the city and she's dumb as a rock when it comes to the love sick scythe.”
Maka swatted Liz’s arm and rolled her eyes. Behind her she heard someone clear their throat.
“Maka?”
She turned to see Peter, a fellow teacher who specialized in weapon training of the lower grade levels.
“Oh hi Peter, how are you?” Maka greeted and the rest of the girls waved politely.
“Good. I was wondering if you wanted to dance maybe?” He asked.
She expected to hear the girls snickering and giggling but instead she was met with silence and a smug cough from Liz.
“Oh, uh.” She started.
“Come on, it will be fun.” He said and took her hand, pulling her to the dance floor without giving her a chance.
A small squeak escaped her lips as she almost crashed into his chest. His hands found their way to her hips as he swayed to the music. Although she had always found their conversations nice and refreshing, he wasn’t the type of man that was, well, her type.
“You know Maka, I’ve always admired you.” He said.
She looked up at him and offered a polite smile. “Oh really?”
“So brave and smart, makes sense that the top teacher was also the top student.”
She laughed slightly. “Well I couldn’t have done it without my partner.”
Peter quickly caught his frown. “Yeah, Soul. Nice dude.”
“He likes to consider himself a ride or die.” She smiled to herself.
Peter grunted something she couldn’t make out and spun her around. She saw Soul walking towards the balcony doors just as she came back to Peter’s front.
“Anyways, I was wondering if you wanted to have dinner with me, you know, like a date?”
Maka stopped in her tracks. Date. No. She didn’t want that. She gave up on that a long time ago.
“Look Peter, you’re a nice guy and I have a great time working with you, but I’m just not looking for anything.”
“Oh. I just thought you and I we're getting to be good friends.”
“Well I like chatting with you and grading stuff but I really am not into dating right now. Sorry.”
“I get it, Soul would be jealous.” He scoffed and stepped back. “ I should have listened.”
“Listened to what?” She demanded.
He had the audacity to smile at her. “Oh please. Ever since school, everyone knew that it was you and Soul. I just thought that since nothing has happened yet, you would be on the market.”
That rubbed her the wrong way and her face turned sour.
“Well sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not some slab of meat. See you on Monday.” She scoffed and walked away from him. Instead of going back to her friends, she stormed towards the balcony and greeted the cool air to help calm her down.
“That was quick.” Soul teased and he held out his hand to help her up, making sure her dress didn’t get caught.
“Quick enough for a dance just to ask me out and get mad when I said no.”
Soul turned towards her. “Oh? Another ego bruised?”
“He said he had been waiting for me to be on the market.” She spat. “Disgusting behavior.”
Soul let out a laugh and threw his arm over her shoulder. “Men are stupid, you’re smart to not go near them.”
“You’re not stupid, most of the time.” She mumbled.
“The difference between me and those guys is I’ve had my ass handed to me by you. I know not to mess with the bull. Plus, I actually have respect for you and women, like a cool person should.”
“Yeah. He then said that you would be jealous.”
They watched the sun begin to set slowly. Sometimes Maka wondered what it would feel like to be the sun. Eternal warmth. Being a constant in peoples lives. She looked to Soul who seemed a little lost in thought. That spark coming to the surface and she wondered why she didn’t allow herself to what she wanted.
For years she had made sure that their partnership never faltered from that.  She couldn’t risk anything happening to them because she wasn’t sure if she would be able to trust another weapon the way she did with him. She also didn’t want to partner with anyone else.
She enjoyed his company. Enjoyed the way that he could make her smile and feel comfortable. Most importantly, he stuck to his word. She never once felt like he would leave and when he said he was going to be there, she believed him.
Sometimes she wished she could just scream at him and tell him that she had been in love with him for years. That her talks about marriage and love never once applied to him and if he asked, she would be his forever.
“I think he's right.” Soul started. “Its always been you and me. I probably wouldn’t like the attention taken. Stupid, I know.”
“Its not, because I think I know why no one else sparks my interest.” She took a breath and stared at him. Those crimson eyes that held a sense of comfort and form of love that was now crystal clear. “I don’t think anyone else comes close to how I see you. The stolen glances and walking on the eggshells of feelings I pushed down long ago. I get it now Soul. You never asked because you waited for me.”
He let out a laugh from his chest and jumped down before offering his hand. “The moment I met you Maka? I knew we were end game, I was just hoping you saw it too.”
When she looked at Soul, she could sense the last little flames igniting. She could have crushed them, put them out with the bottom of her shoe and never let them rise again. She could of finally removed all the pain her parents marriage caused her and not let anything happen to her heart.
And when she thought that her idea of love was burnt to a crisp, she didn’t realize that those tiny embers had slowly grown into a burning fire. Only one person fanned the flames of her heart and she wonders why she couldn’t see it all those years ago.
But instead she looked into his eyes and saw nothing but trust. His smile was genuine and there was a faint blush on his cheeks as he waited for her answer. Deep down the embers sparked as she took his hand and she felt the fire take over.
She took his hand and he gently pulled her close until their noses touch and he placed a kiss on her knuckles. She could barely hear the music playing inside but it felt like a symphony was surrounding them. He began to hum a tune and stepped to lead her in their dance.
She giggled as he twirled her. It felt freeing, it felt right, it was perfect. He brought her back to his chest and with a big smile, he looked down at her.
“Maka?”
“Hmm?”
“Can I kiss you?”
“Yes.”
He pulled her close, taking her lips and kissing her just like he wanted to for as long as he could remember. Her lips were soft and he could feel the curl of her lips as she smiled against him.
The fire within her erupted brighter than before. The sense of longing for another began to be fulfilled and any doubts she had began to shrink. Any doubts she had with Soul had been long gone. He was her constant, the person who was always there no matter what. She never had to ask or even say a word for him to be by her side.
Her idea of love had been crushed when she had been a girl. She had thought that no one could change that. Perhaps she would spend her life not knowing what life could have been with a full heart.
But as she held Soul close to her, it became clear that he was the one to hold the match to those embers. He was a reminder that love could exist and be devoted to another.
He was the fire that burned in her heart and she gladly excepted the warmth.
“Hey Soul?” She whispered against his lips.
“Yeah?”
“I love you.”
She didn’t think his smile could get any bigger as he told her the same and kissed her again.

I hope you enjoyed :)

Guess What? I‘m Not a Robot Ch40
Summary: Everyone can finally chill, take stock, talk to family. Then there’s a knock at the door.
Chapter Warnings: Mentions of injury and being shot. One (?) f-bomb.
Word Count: 1,745
09.45AM Friday 12th November 2038
She unlocked the door and let the boys in. It felt weird to back. The whole world had changed since she and Paul had left, and yet the apartment was still the same as they’d left it.
“Alright,” Megan set about introducing the place to Oscar. “Bathroom’s there, kitchen there. That door there is my bedroom and I’d appreciate it if you didn’t go in there.”
As she did this Paul went to check the taps and lights. The lights flickered on dimly but the tap made a horrible gurgling sound with no water appearing.
“We’re on generator power. Great,” Megan sighed. “We’ll just have to deal with it.”
She turned her attention to the landline phone and sighed, seeing that it was blinking with several messages. She went over to play them over one by one.
“Megan,” it was her mother. “Things sound like they’re getting pretty dangerous in Detroit. Stay safe okay? Call me back.”
The next one was also from her mom, and the next, and the next. Each one becoming more and more hysterical.
The second to last one was from her brother, saying that he’d picked up movement in his college with Android Allies and was hoping to keep protesting and harbouring androids as best he could.
The final one was actually from the Beckwiths.
“Megan dear, we hope you get this. We made it to my sister’s and Anita is safe. Don’t you worry. You and Paul take care of each other now. Okay? Stay safe.”
With a long sigh and a bit of preparation as the boys puttered around in the background, Megan called her parents.
“Megan Violet Carroll!” her mom screamed down the phone, making her pull the receiver away from her ear. “Do you have any idea how worried we’ve been?!”
“I can probably guess,” Megan spoke before she thought, and quickly realised that now was not the time for a smart answer.
“We’ve been worried sick! Especially with all the phones down. What the hell were you thinking, protesting illegally?! I never thought you’d be one to break the law! We’re booking a flight for you to come home right now!”
Megan felt sick, but did something that she felt like she needed to. “You don’t need to do that.”
“Yes I do. And I know airports make you anxious sweetheart but we’ll put that in the extra requirements and we can have someone meet you.”
“No. You really don’t have to. I, I don’t want you to.”
“Megan? What are you saying?”
“I’m staying in Detroit.”
“No you most certainly are not! The entire city’s a warzone! Buildings destroyed, people fleeing in terror-”
Megan interrupted her mother for the first time in many years. “Well I’m looking out of the window right now and not a single building has been damaged and people are leaving in an orderly fashion.”
“What about these androids-?!”
“They haven’t hurt anyone. Not a single human life was lost in this entire revolution. Detroit is safe.”
“Young lady, in case you haven’t realised there’s an evacuation order!”
“I’ve broken one law. I’m happy breaking another. See you later mom.”
“Megan! Don’t you dare-!”
Megan hung up the phone and took a deep breath to steady herself. Her stomach roiled in protest and she felt her legs wobble, but overall, she was okay.
Before her mom could call her back, she called her brother.
“Hey James,” she said after he’d picked up.
“Hi Megs, still in Detroit?”
“Yep, still on campus?”
“Just about. I hid under the bed when security came round. They don’t know I’m here.”
“Cool, I’m guessing mom demanded that you come home?”
“Oh yeah. I shut her down though. You?”
“Same here. She was not happy. How’s AA your end?”
“Pretty good. Some guys had to go home but most of us are still here. What about you? I saw you on the news.”
“Yeah. Most of us are still here. Alex was arrested. I don’t know what we’re going to do about that,” the pain killers had worn off about an hour ago, and she shifted her shoulder uncomfortably, wincing audibly.
“You okay?” James asked and Megan couldn’t bring herself to lie.
“Had a run in with the military for the protest and harbouring an illegal android. I, I got shot.”
“What?! Shouldn’t you be in hospital?!”
“What hospital? They’re all closed,” Megan rebuked. “One of the guys knows first aid and can sew. I’m stitched up pretty nicely.”
“Good, that’s good. Don’t do anything too reckless, okay?”
“You’re telling me not to be reckless?”
“Well, given what you’ve just told me...”
“True true,” Megan agreed. “How are you doing anyway?”
“Me? I’m fine. Not shot anyway.”
“I mean, mentally. Are you okay? I know this might not be a good time to talk, but...”
“...it’s okay. I’ve got other things to focus on. I’ll figure it out when everything dies down okay?”
“James,” Megan warned, feeling big sister mode kicking in.
“I’m fine. College was a bit of a shock, that was all. I’m fine.”
“Alright,” Megan sighed, not believing him but too tired to push. “I’ll call you later, okay?”
“Sure. Love you.”
“Love you too.” Megan hung up, that phone having been a lot better than with her mom. Final call was to the Beckwiths. It went to voicemail, so Megan left a message.
“Hey, just letting you know that I’m okay. Me and Paul are okay and I’m glad to hear Anita’s good. Hope you three stay safe. Don’t worry about calling back. I have a feeling that things might get a bit busy. Bye.”
Megan hung up and turned to face the rest of the apartment. Paul had moved some of his stuff from the couch so that Oscar could sit down, and the android was now pottering around the kitchen.
“Paul, what are you doing?” Megan asked.
“Making breakfast,” he replied, checking bread, bacon and eggs. They seemed to satisfy him and he got to work.
“Need help?” Megan asked, already knowing the answer.
“How about you read a book?” Paul suggested. “I’ll ask Oscar if I need help.”
Megan sighed, nodded and did as he suggested, sitting in her desk chair. It felt so good to sit there again.
There was silence for a while before Oscar broke it.
“So, now what?” he asked. “We’re just going to hole out here?”
“For the time being,” Paul replied as bacon sizzled. “We will need to do a supply run sooner or later, and deal with Alex. We should have gotten Lieutenant Anderson’s phone number, then we could have gotten him to get them out.”
“Hindsight is 20/20,” Megan commented, nose deep in her book.
Oscar shifted uncomfortably. He wanted to do something, but all he could think of was watching tv, and they were on limited power.
“Oscar,” Paul started, sensing his restlessness. “I would suggest calling your parents.”
Oscar nodded, and got up to do just that.
The whole thing was very calm, very domestic. Almost a complete contrast to the last few days. If you ignored the hand guns the boys had placed on the coffee table.
Morning soon past into afternoon, and everyone was startled by a knock at the door.
2PM Friday 12th November 2038
Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at each other. Paul grabbed and cocked a gun before approaching the door and looking through the fish eye hole.
“Lieutenant Anderson?” he opened the door to reveal the titular detective.
“Finally!” he stated. “I was starting to wonder if you were even in.”
“What are you doing here?” Paul asked, angling himself so that he couldn’t see into the apartment. Or the gun he was holding.
“Thought ya might want to know about your friend. They got released today, on account of bigger fish to fry.”
“Okay, thank you for that information,” Paul responded. “It seems like you went to an awful lot of trouble for this detective.”
“Yeah, ya got me. That ain’t the only reason I’m here,” Anderson rocked back and forth on his heels. “Mind if I come in? It’s freezing in this corridor.”
Paul looked his shoulder at Megan, who nodded reluctantly. He stepped back to let in the detective.
”Damn tiny place you got here,” he commented, Paul closing the door behind him.
“It was designed for one person,” Megan’s snark was there, but was muted in the presence of a near stranger.
“I can tell,” Anderson continued to rock on his heels. “Anyway, you guys seem to be the main pro android group in the city right now, huh?”
“I, guess,” Oscar responded with a shrug. “No one else seems to be organised.”
“Exactly, and ya say this Alex is yer leader?”
“More or less,” Paul responded cautiously, wondering where this was going.
“Look, I know Connor, and I know he’s gotten in good with the deviants, so I figured that I could talk to ‘im and see if we could set up a meeting between your guys and Markus.”
Megan made a noise that sounded like a cat coughing up a hair ball, and Oscar’s mouth fell open.
“Are you certain about this detective?” Paul asked, the only one able to regain his cognitive faculties.
“Not really, but I can try. Besides, it would be good for them to meet pro android folks who aren’t politicians. Plus, you can be with other androids if ya want,” he aimed that last part at Paul, who narrowed his eyes.
“I’m not sure that I do.”
“Eh, whatever,” Anderson shrugged. “You do you. I’m just putting the offer out there. I didn’t get a chance to tell yer friend, and you’re the only other guys I know.”
“We will pass it on,” Paul assured.
“Great! Er, here’s my phone number, just in case,” since Paul was closest he handed it to him, and Paul copied down Megan’s landline and cell phone number.
“Alright,” Anderson made his way back towards the door. “I’ll, er, be in touch.”
“Thank you Lieutenant,” Paul responded, since no one else seemed to feel like talking.
“Call me Hank. This is unofficial after all,” the detective attempted a smile, and seemed to fall a little flat. “Be seein’ ya,” with that he left.
A few seconds after the door fell shut Megan stared at Paul.
“...Did that just happen?”
“Yes. I do believe that it did.”
“Fuck.”
“Indeed.”
Well, I guess Hank showed up sooner than I remembered.
I'm admittedly not too fond of where the story goes from here. It seems like a natural continuation to me, but it feels, I don't know, too convenient. At the same time, I don't know how to make it better without dragging it out, so I've left it as is. Other Options Flowchart

woaaahhkay so im shaking with a lot of feeling rn bc ive had too much caffeine (on accident) also had a very small dose of an edible yesterday but it never left my system also just started started my period a few days early and i just sent a request to one of my faculty mentors asking for a letter of rec to another (important) school across the country and it’s like
she’s the last of the three faculty i’m telling about it/so i’ve had to do varieties of this song and dance before but those times were in person bc THEY’RE not on SABBATICAL so it was both worse and better first professor who is such a philosophy nerd, so nice, slightly famous in a way only academics can be?, looks like a kindly turtle in single slit bow spectacles-- tried to convince me I can complete the ph.d. in 2 years. like, start to finish. he has that much confidence in me. second professor is prob one of my favorite teachers? that i’ve ever had? like he’s up there enshrined in a memory even tho i see him multiple times a week? i think he’s really going to be the one person i miss most when i leave. which is like, something the free university therapist--that i only managed to see for 3 sessions because she OBVIOUSLY had no idea what to say to me EVER bc i was OBVIOUSLY freaking her out-- did say is a strange sort of self sabotage bc WHY can’t I look to make friends with people I’m ALLOWED to be friends with? And then, it’s like, this also feeds into my roiling inner anti-intellectualism bc isn’t he just a person? aren’t I just a person? i can’t handle these pseudo-hierarchies where we’re meant to be colleagues with a huge wall of propriety between us. whatever. what i thought would be a quick 10 minute sad-chat became a 1hr+ deep heart-to-heart with a huge wall of propriety that I very much dissociated from during at least 3/4 of while he was obviously sleep deprived after having driven in to school from a conference a few states over. it was a lot. he almost got me. like, he was so close to convincing me that I like academia. i came out not knowing left from right. he’s very persuasive bc he actually loves his life and it’s infectious? anyways he and prof1 were both very much in the line of “of COURSE it is SO UNDERSTANDABLE that you are having emotional issues bc you are living across a continent from your life partner/best friend/main family while having absolutely no real support structure in this great State in Which we Live, but we DO SO hope you figure out literally ANY OTHER WAY to stay on in our program bc... you were made for this life?????? how else will you be happy??? but yes obvsly we’ll write you good letters of rec thru our tears” or whatever but j helped me write up a to-the-point email to prof 3 bc he knew i’d be such a nervous wreck about it that i’d spend the next 8 hours drafting something unuseable and working my poor little heart into a metaphorical and yet dangerously physical tizzy. i like her, in a professorly way. her scholarship is good. her class was edifying and prompted actual academic creativity in me? but she’s also such a rich white lady academic, lives in a weird rich person east-west coast metropolitan university bubble, has an impenetrable, icy exterior that makes all genuine human interaction the actual worst for me to deal with... yeah yeah i couldnt cope without backup. and guess what? she shot a response back to me like within actual SECONDS of my initial email. like  whisplash. and i was shaking so hard and also dealing with other stupid department emails so I only read the first few lines which were like “of course i’ll help you but i URGE you to RECONSIDER” and something about how being in a relationship with another academic means we’ll always have to deal with separation issues and i was like nope not reading this rn im good thx. Bc I don’t care? I know they’re all like “what about YOUR potential? what about YOU?” and it’s like j and i both are not lovin’ academia we’re just coasting. outside jobs are harder for me bc i got caught. i got CAUGHT in the lie that they tell you as they shunt you from school to school that smart people belong in schools. ha ha. very funny. they were just forcing me into a state of dependency the whole time! but the jokes on them bc i’ll just become a teacher outside of universities. And I’ll work with teenagers who hate everything and are brimming with existential panic on like 3 hours of sleep. I like those kids. they get it. nothing means anything. life is suffering. then they get run thru the university press and they learn the Lingo and the Signalling and i lose track. anyways, it’s cool, i’ll just get into more student debt to work with kids who want to fist-fight me for having the audacity to ask them to read something. im done living alone here. yeah. so im going to watch another creepy art documentary and crochet more. i dont want to think.

Also Lanfear. By far the worst written character in the whole series. Her personality is unconvincing, inconsistent, shallow and confusing. Her introduction to the series was horrible i got a two day headache after reading the dragon reborn. Here is all that she is; beautiful, selfish, and obsessed with rand. Only time I see a shade of personality about her is her back story as mierin. Otherwise she doesn't at all live to her reputation, she's supposed to be smart and powerful. More collected than mesana and demandred(both known for their rage). She is supposed to be as feared as ishamael and semihrage(unless I really missed the cue). She is supposed to be extremely ambitious (which granted wanting to overthrow both the dark one and the creator is kinda badass but she focuses more of her time on rand than on that, actually she doesn't spend her time on that at all) Anyway. She is none of those things. She never did anything remarkably intelligent. Half her actions were irrational and many characters not remarked for their intelligence did better than her in her smart moments. She's supposed to be powerful. Honestly that i've seen she only used her power to try to kill avhienda and to compell Perrin. Occasionally heal/save/help her enemies, of course she is very able to hold her own against rand in the fight in tear. But thats moot he couldn't kill her even had she not. She is not collected at all. The girl had no chill. Both mesana and demandred hadn't lost their cool once in the whole series. She did it various times to the point it affects her mental faculties. She wasn't particularly feared by humans. As feared as any other forsaken and anyone that knew of her obsession with rand could honestly manipulate her given the chance. And its not like she kept it hidden. And she rarely directly against the people. So she wasn't even a priority. Although the forsaken themselves seemed to be wary of her. Excepting ishamael who was almost derisive (even in his madness) and moridin who well.. owned her. As I said before her biggest ambition was rand. In the last books i saw my respect for her growing, but ended up disappointing me. All forsaken are risk takers. She took more risks than all for the flimsiest hopes for reward. When faced with genuine opportunities for personal gain she doesn't. I.e when rand promised to rescue her had she showed him her soul she had absolutely nothing to lose by doing so. And im sure his promise wasn't conditional. He expected it to be ugly to start with. But that one action would have done her considerable good. Another instance was with Perrin. While I respect her not saving him because he was weak and no use to her. (Not that it's a good action, i just understand her position) I was honestly disappointed at her trying to save the dark one. Had she and Perrin used their powers for good in that instance (possibly earlier like saving Alanna) even despite all her actions with Perrin's vouch even if people would not really trust her she would have a standing in society. She was honestly uniquely knowledgeable too so chances for her to gain a significant/influential position even if only in academics. She could have pursued other ambitions. I'm not saying she should have become good. I'm saying she should have turned to the light. Same as there were good people in the dark. There are bad people in the light. Her crimes in this age were very few and she did, whatever her reasons help the light side. Moreover the lack of witnesses to the crimes she had committed in the previous age make the trial in her favour that's without Perrin's endorsement. Basically what I'm saying is she wasn't even properly selfish. Throughout the books her only apparent use was as a plot tool for rand. She wasn't a character in her own merit. Honestly if it weren't for literally every other character I'd accuse Robert Jordan of mysoginy because Lanfear is high up in the list worst written female characters in my experience. Even so I still find it very unfair she was that poorly written. Such a waste of a decent concept.
