Non-neurotypical things about Sawamura
note: * - asterisk is drama cd content
-He went to Seido because he couldn’t stop thinking of the ball’s sound being caught in Miyuki’s mitt.
-Have no regards/awareness of how loud he is.
-Can’t “read the room.” (Being dense af)
Happened on the very first day when he butt in on azuma and kawakami’s training session.
Being unecessarily rude and disrespectful in the beginning (i dont think he believes in jp hierarchy tbh since he grew up in the countryside with such a free attitude)
Everything he did to gain Chris’s forgiveness.
When he just does what he wants in the bullpen screaming his lungs out at Furuya.
When he was the only one who didnt notice Miyuki’s discomfort.
-The way he hyperfocuses on getting a job done or until it felt right to him.
When Coach Kataoka gave him a hint about proper pitching form,
trying his new form during vs Kokudokan match despite the fielders and audience jeering at him,
obssessively studying baseball and nothing else,
finishing books regardless of how difficult they are
-Sometimes have disregard for personal space.
-Giving nicknames to people without holding back.
-Calling the coach "Boss" and "Shogun" without fear.
-When he kept saying “Bless you” whenever Masuko sneezed.*
-When he suggested adding grasshoppers to the canteen menu.*
-That one time he kept saying “Bullpen bullpen bullpen” to Miyuki.
-He just kept eating Masuko’s pudding and nobody knows why.
-Taking things literally all the time. You cant speak to him in metaphors without warning because he will take it literally.*
-smh is not aware of gender stereotypes or doesn’t really care about it.*
-Is hellbent on talking in old samurai-style japanese.*
-He releases his anxiety by repeatedly pitching to the net (esp in yips arc).
-The way he always think outside the box.
Putting tires on his waist because normal running is boring.
Seeing what other pitchers do and picking up things from them (yeah thats what learning is about anyway but the way he does it is amazing)
Imagining pitch sequences to the net even though no one told him too. (Srsly the initiative is A+++ and he was not even aware)
The one time he put rice and pudding together and genuinely thought it would be good to add it to the canteen menu.*
-He also gets distracted easily and will keep on talking about that topic until another topic gets him off tangent.
When he thought Miyuki cant get married even though Miyuki knows how to cook because as catcher, Miyuki was the team’s wife.*
-Doesn’t hold back in showing displeasure on his face.
-Has lots of energy to burn??
Like in the first episode when he stayed behind and played with the club’s bats and balls on his own.
-His innate understanding of Shogi makes him special already.
-Will go above and beyond his way to help and take care of people (Furuya, Masuko* and the team even when he had YIPS)
-Doesn’t ever seem to hold a grudge against everyone. (well he’s been conditioned to believe his an idiot so he doesn’t see anything wrong with the insults)
-and he has remained kind all throughout this time.
-really though "baseless courage and strength" should be a hint that Sawamura thinks differently from everybody.
Added notes:
Everytime someone comments that he’s an idiot/baka is really a testament that this kid is not normal.
Also I’m gonna assume that since he grew up in a harsh environment (the countryside) where he was doted and loved, he was free to do whatever he liked without worrying about the typical social conventions. The phsyical abuse he suffered under his grandpa (all that slapping jfc) made him immune to normal forms of punishment. That’s also why his personality is so strong and resilient. And he is so loud because his household is loud too.
But even so, there is no other explanation for his extreme focus and concentration on the things he wants to do. That’s what makes him amazing.
I am not familiar enough with adhd/autism spectrum but I think Sawamura belongs somewhere in there. Geniuses are usually like that.
