hello i have been thinking about this so much and you've become my go to 'cool blog to send anons to when ur having brain rot' person so now you must think about it too: gears and bright becoming friends as kids at the foundation. because like. i imagine there aren't really that many other non anomalous kids at foundation facilities since most staff wouldn't be allowed and wouldn't want to involve their families with anything related to the foundation. charles gears, however, has been with the foundation for his entire life, as it's what his father wanted for him, and no one was about to argue with 05-1 [he was almost like an experiment, seeing what someone became from an entire lifetime knowing nothing but the sounds of people screaming and doors slamming]. jack bright hadn't been at the foundation for his whole life [though he'd known about it for a very long time], but due to a worrying amount of anomalous incidents, it seemed like he and his family would be staying for the rest of it. despite having all his siblings, jack wasn't actually able to hang out with them much, sarah and tj for obvious reasons, claire wanting a lot more alone time than usual, and mikell seeming to have grown up 5 years in a few months, no longer interested in playing with his little brother. charles didn't really mind being alone [mostly], it wasn't like he'd ever had any friends or siblings his age, and even the adults he knew had a sort of professional distance from him emotionally. he never really knew that he was supposed to be lonely. but he also certainly didn't mind when jack essentially declared them friends as soon as he realized there was another kid there. he was younger than charles by a good few years, and far, far more energetic and michevious, but they got along really well, all things considered. they learned a lot from each other; charles explained how things worked with the foundation, showed him the directions to different places, defined weird scientific terms, and jack showed him a bunch of games he never got to play, demonstrated how to properly steal snacks from the break room without getting caught [they did get caught, a couple times, but hey, gotta break a few eggs and all that], and most of all, how to let go a little. how to be a kid. they sorta balanced each other out. not enough to change who they'd become 20 years down the line, of course, but it's doubtful anything really could.
but yeah i just think that jack "four siblings-class clown-had unrestricted youtube acsess as a young child" bright and charles "only child-'mature for his age'-incredibly sheltered but also exposed to things no person should ever have to see" gears being friends as kids is good. also a. a lot of angst potential.
ANON ANON YOUR MIND
God I should have look for my old childhood friends Bright and Gears posts again cause honestly same mind! They have such a good dynamic between them with the fact how deep their families are in the Foundation and you really hit it on the head of Gears being the 'sheltered kid who is way out of touch with the outside world but is way too comfortable with the ugliness of the Foundation' and Bright as the 'hyperactive, has way too much free access to the internet kid'
