something i haven’t talked about concerning the jinja is that the clan head lied to miyuna when she went to see him to basically say “ i’m gonna take your job, old man >:)) ” he told her they were planning on giving the position to her younger cousin bc he showed more promise, and honestly?? no he didn’t. not enough to sway the clan head, at least. the jinja clan head is just a manipulative old coot who tries to pin his family members against each other bc there’s nothing like rivalry and competitive spirit to push people to test their limits, and if he wants the jinja to rise to prominence again, why wouldn’t he do that kinda thing??

his manipulation and tendency to twist the truth is just one reason why tsugumi chose to work in kyoto vs. staying in tokyo. she sees right through that mess and just doesn’t have it in her to face him every single day and put up with him trying to control her. truth be told? the clan head is more likely to choose tsugumi to replace him simply bc she’s the most accomplished of the family, and she’s shown she can lead just fine. 

something else to note that i haven’t talked about really: the jinja clan head never rose above a grade 2 sorcerer, though he does have the family’s inherited technique. yes, he’s more experienced and thus more skilled than miyuna to begin with, but he’s reached the limit of his own potential. miyuna still has room to grow : )
