There's a lot of reasonably frustrated but ultimately misdirected psa-style posting about how viewers NEED to start reblogging things rather than just liking them because that is the primary mode of post circulation on this site. The modern manifestation of this sentiment seems to miss the fact that, if you've been here for ~15 years, were here prior to, during, and after the exodus to the bird app, you already know that likes have always been more common than reblogs, that many people simply don't want to put your art on their blog, and that guilting end-users into using a microblogging site A Specific Way absolutely does not work. If it did, the trend would have shifted a decade ago. Because this conversation really is that old. Regardless, the modern discourse of how difficult it is to be Seen specifically on Tumblr isn't productive because I think it ultimately misses the reason being an artist online feels so Bad, now.

The social media era has funneled Looking At Stuff on the Internet into an economy of engagement that encourages end-users to treat everything we/they see as quick, cheap, and disposable. This is just another fun and flirty way that capitalism devalues art. It's nothing new. Trying to force masses of users to behave in a way that is healthier for the circulation of art isn't going to do anything to solve the discontent we all feel when we hurl something into the void and it is ultimately ignored. I swear up and down: A higher notes number won't feel better, either. Popularity is just as demoralizing as radio silence, but it manifests differently. Instead of 4 likes and maybe 1 reblog from Old Faithful Mutual, you get a horde of people who treat you like a content machine. You keep hoping for an impossibly Bigger Number. The notifs on the first Big Number Post haven't even settled, and people are already asking when the follow-up is coming. You get anons, but most of them are trying to passively convince you to give them More Content.

It's really, really hard to make people care about art. If there was a silver bullet for making the average person appreciate the enormity of human effort behind every beautiful thing they encounter, we would have found it centuries ago.

The best thing creatives can do for their lives online is to be friendly, or at least kind, with other creators. "Big" artists don't form in-groups because they're snobs. They find each other because they casually showed each other support, and their mutual appreciation for that Thing that wound them up in the same tag becomes a foundation for connection, and in many cases, the ever-illusive Bigger Audience as they introduce themselves to each others' circles. We get more eyes on our work by building community with each other.

Where does that leave people who are just here to look at things, not post them? I think the answer is almost identical: COMMENT!! Please, comment! The first step to engaging with art on a more meaningful level is to point out something you particularly enjoy about a given work. It can go in the replies, it can go in the tags, doesn't matter!! If you notice some symbolism or make some connection, there is all likelihood that OP put it there because they desperately wanted somebody to notice it. Let them know why you like it!

Reaching for the nebulous, impossible goal of better post circulation isn't going to make being a creator online in 2023 suck less. Meaningfully connecting with each other can, will, and does. You can make someone's day just by passingly letting them know that their effort is worth more than a number.

Setting up AO3 Enhancements on a mobile browser

Hey there! Do you:

read fic primarily on your phone?

feel tired of having to punch in a lot of filter tags every time you browse for fics?

have an android device?

then I might be able to help you make fandom a cozier place! (and hopefully nip future drama in the bud, lol)

With this post, I'm gonna guide you through the process of installing the AO3 Enhancements browser extension, normally only available on desktop, on your mobile device. It works a charm, and I've been using it for months, and it's made the Undertale tag navigable again despite my utter disinterest in AU content.

Here's an archived version of the full post in case my dumbass accidentally deletes it for some reason

Let's get started!

UPDATE: For IOS users! You can download the browser app "Orion" which allows firefox extensions! No need to do this procedure, just install it and download the extension as you normally would from Firefox Add-ons

1) Download Firefox Nightly.

For those who are hearing of it for the first time, Firefox Nightly is a separate Firefox browser made specifically for developers. The name itself is due to the fact that it's patched and updated on a daily (er, nightly) basis. This makes it more prone to crashing and issues than the standard Firefox app, but I've switched over to nightly as my main browser months ago now, and if I ever encounter a problem, I just... download the latest update and I'm good to go.

What's crucial about Nightly, however, is that it gives the user access to various additional features. One of them being desktop extensions on mobile, which is what we're here for.

2) Make a Firefox Account

This will be necessary to install the extension later

Once you've done that, go to the Firefox add-ons website and log into your account in the upper right (where it says "Biscia" in the screenshot below). Click on "View My Collections"

3) Making an add-on collection

Since browser extensions are technically blocked from being directly installed by the browser, Nightly offers a workaround.

Create a collection, and give it a name without spaces to avoid errors.

4) Adding the extension

Here is the link to ao3 enhancements (if it's not showing up, try reloading the page in desktop mode). Scroll down until you see the option "Add to a collection" and select the one you just created.

You can do it with any extension! Go nuts. There's lots of good stuff out there. Just remember that it's not guaranteed every one of them will work, since they aren't intended to be used on a mobile device.

5) Activating debug mode.

In your browser, tap the little sandwich menu in the bottom right, scroll down and click Settings. It should be under "Save to Collection".

Scroll down even more until you reach the "About" section, and click on "About Firefox Nightly"

Click on the firefox logo 5 times, and it should be done.

6) Activating your add-ons

Go to "View my profile" as seen in the screenshot in step 2. At the end of the link, there should be a string of numbers. Copy it.

After this, go back to the browser settings again, scroll down until you reach the add ons section and click on "custom add on collection". Paste the numbers you copied from your profile where it says "User ID", and the name of your collection EXACTLY as it appears in the link, where it says "Collection name". Mind, it's case sensitive.

Press okay, and it should kick you out of the app. Open it again and, going in add-ons then add-ons manager, you should be able to add your extension.

ATTENTION!! If you get the error message "failed to query add-ons" you either inputted the wrong user id or the wrong collection name

To avoid this type of issue, don't name your collection something that has spaces or punctuation in it, as it might mess with the link formatting.

7) Setting up your AO3 enhancements filters

If everything's worked out fine, you should be able to visit ao3 and see a new drop-down window.

Click on it, click on option, and it should open up a new window with all the settings available! Tweak them to your heart's content. Though mind, the background tag wrangling done by the ao3 volunteers doesn't work with this extension, so the extension is going to hide only the works tagged EXACTLY what you filtered. Character for character. This makes things a bit tricky when people aren't consistent with their tagging, but if it proves to be enough of a problem, you can just filter out the author name in full and be done with it.

You can choose to hide the fic behind a "show" button, or make it not show up at all. If you choose the latter option, and you blocked a tag that has lots of fics, it might look like certain pages of searches are almost empty, since all the fics were hidden.

And that's it! I sincerely hope this helps people avoid their triggers and other topics that make them uncomfortable. No more excuses fellas. You find a tag you haven't filtered yet? You add it to the list and move on. Easy peasy.

torchwood fanfic resources

so i'm a chronic livejournal archaeologist, and fixating on 2000s media is particularly fun for me because it means i get to go digging on lj / dw / old fanfic forums. below you'll find some of the excavations from my torchwood fixation (give it up for month 6!) it's pretty much got every comm i've ever stumbled upon and found useful, or thought others would find useful. it's largely fanfic-oriented, though there's some more generalized comms, too. i hope you guys enjoy!

i was originally going to include a link to my reclist on this post as well, but it's still a wip, so i'll just post that separately in the future.

general disclaimer: most of the content here is from 2006-2013 or so. period-typical attitudes may pop up in places. i'm not sure if most modern tw fans have witnessed the original fandom at all, but i felt a need to say this anyway, because i've seen some icky stuff. i've warned for anything notable. gwen bashing in particular may unfortunately pop up in some of these comms, especially in the comments, so tread carefully.

if you're new to probing through old lj comms, remember to always have the wayback machine on hand, because you're going to run into a lot of purged accounts and seemingly lost fics, but sometimes you get lucky and something's been archived :)

as of the date i'm posting this, all of these comms are still accessible, but if you're from the future and some have been deleted, again, go ahead and give the wayback machine a try. additionally, livejournal has a system that includes 'cross-posting' in which, if authors choose to (and the majority of them do, to get their fics more visibility), fics get posted to multiple comms at once. so chances are, even if one comm gets deleted, the contents will survive through other comms. kind of like how reblogs continue to exist even when the original blog is deleted.

finally, ctrl + f is your best friend if you have a specific ship/character/trope you're invested in, especially in comms with less than ideal tagging systems. if a comm does have a substantial tagging system, you can find all of its tags by adding '/tags' the end of the urls i've provided.

assorted livejournal communities

✎ torch-wood: this is essentially a torchwood subreddit. it started before the show even aired, and one of the highlights of it is episode reaction posts (easily accessible on the right side of the lj) that document how everyone immediately reacted to the eps, which is pretty damn cool, fandom-history wise. only thing i should mention is there's quite a lot of gwen and owen bashing in the comments of some of those reaction posts, so just be wary of that if you love those two like i do, 'cuz it's a bit of a bummer.

✎ torchwood-three: this comm is an extremely cool then-daily newsletter (that still updates sometimes?!) that compiled as much fan-content as it could find into cleanly organized lists. the posts made immediately after new episodes aired contain reactions, discussions, meta, theories, new fic, fanmixes, just about everything. very very cool to go back and see the way the fandom was thinking as the show was airing and as they were getting to know the characters. here's a direct link to all posts made in late 2006, during the airing of s1.

✎ torchwood-fic: exactly what it says on the tin. desktop layout is easy to navigate, tags are all there!

✎ torchwood-fic's profile page also features a list of affiliated accounts that's pretty handy. it's worth taking a peek at, in case i've excluded anything in this post that you might be interested in.

✎ twgenrefinders: handy dandy comm where people would ask for fics of a certain variety & be treated with reclists, or hyper-specific fics... pretty cool stuff, ive got several threads bookmarked to sort through the links later. ofc, please note that some of the things people asked for might be stinky. particularly i've seen a lot of ppl requesting gwen bashing fics :/

✎ twstoryfinder: cousin to the above comm; here, people would ask for a very specific fic they'd lost. it's kind of fun to find fics through because you get someone describing memorable scenes + hyping it up, so it's different than just a standard summary. this one still gets posted on, too, which is crazyyy.

✎ tw-unpaired: for gen fics! no romance allowed! there's some good character studies + friendship fics in there. stuff's tagged by character + authors are even tagged, in case you find one whose writing you particularly enjoy. this is v useful for when someone's main journal has been deleted.

✎ torchwood-decaf: a comm where janto is BANNED. nah i'm kidding, it's not anti-janto, it was just made because janto is so huge that it overshadows everything else. pretty smart, tbh; wading through the sheer mass of janto content can be tiresome.

✎ jack-in-cuffs: for dark tw fic, or uber smutty tw fic. as a fan of dark!fic, there's some goodies in here, but of course it's not everyone's cup of tea. most of the writers included warnings, but if you go a little further back, some people weren't as courteous; navigate with caution.

✎ jack-owen: for fic featuring our captain and his (second favorite) doctor. i know this pairing's kinda divisive nowadays, but i enjoy it a lot. the comm's got a dismal tagging system and, ngl, i don't truly like any of the fics there (i'm very intrigued by jack and owen's relationship but i've never found fic that really does them justice, and i still haven't figured out how to write them myself) - but i'll include it anyway.

✎ odetojoi: for fic featuring owen in the middle of a janto sandwich, for those of us who are allergic to women (/sarcasm). there's an oddly impressive supply of fics of the three of them, and a good chunk of them can be found in this comm. (everytime i see this comm i think of a certain abbreviation found in p/rnogr/phy... but i digress)

✎ halfwee-and-tea: for ianto x owen fic. haven't gone through this one much, truthfully. i hate when comms have no tagging systems agh.

✎ owenharper-fans: a comm for the saddest undeadest bisexualest doctor around. also features a few burn appreciation posts, which is nice to see pre-pac rim era. mostly just features a shit ton of owen fic, particularly owen x ianto fic. mostly sufficiently tagged. if you need me once i post this, btw, i will be balls deep in this comm.

✎ the pro-owen alliance: another owen-focused comm - i think this one was made directly in response to owen bashing. haven't combed through this one much but it's got a fair amount of fics.

✎ house-of-cooper: a gwen comm! made in response to gwen bashing. haven't gone through it, but i'm glad it exists.

✎ tw-femficfest: a comm for fic about any and all of the torchwood ladies. tagging's cleanly done & there's some handy fic round ups, too.

✎ tw-classic: a comm for 'all things series one and two of torchwood'. was made after s3 and was popular around s4 out of nostalgia for the golden age <3 good amount of fic, discussions, etc.

✎ torchwood-house: this comm is, like, letterboxd, but for torchwood fanfic. basically a group of individuals who thought of themselves as having Good Taste would read Good Fic and then go in this comm and write a post about why they recommend it. it's well-made, easy to scroll through, and sells the fics v well, and it kinda gets you more excited to read them when you get to see someone hype them up with Fancy Words. it's like a little torchwood yaoi bookclub. we're eating quiche

✎ tw100: a drabble challenge; this thing's full of 100 word drabbles. ngl i hate drabbles but i'm throwing it in here anyway

✎ touchyerwood: i love kink memes... i love kink memes less when my favorite character/pairing is unpopular. the pac rim kink meme's been a blessing bc i'm a basic ass newmann - the torchwood kink meme? not so much. it's got a fair amount of shit, though, so maybe someone else will appreciate it. this one isn't the original, that one's been wiped off the internet, to my chagrin. keep in mind before digging that people in kink memes are horny & gross. that's your warning.

✎ reel-torchwood: for any and all movie aus... ok i have a bone to pick with this comm. i'm a big movie nerd, i love film, i've seen dozens of films i've thought would make good aus - i combed through this and there is not a SINGLE fic in there that piqued my interest. NOTHING. needless to say my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. i'm sure my experiences aren't universal though.

✎ torchwoodslash: ah, remember when we called it slash? gee whiz. i'm not big on this comm, it's not very user friendly + there's like no tags whatsoever so it's extremely hard to navigate. enter at your own risk & good luck, lol.

✎ rounds-of-kink: this isn't a torchwood-exclusive comm, but it's got a sizeable torchwood tag, which can be found here. pretty organized tagging system; makes me happy.

✎ tw-declassified: this comm was mainly used for running a 'torchwood bingo', which, i've been in other fandoms that do episode bingos and it's usually cute... this one confused me a little so i didn't bother peeking around too much, but still a cool little bit of fandom history.

✎ writerinadrawer: this was an annual torchwood writer's challenge that ran for four years... it's kinda hard to navigate but it does have some fic in it so i'm putting it here.

✎ dmarley-recs: a recs journal someone ran for compiling torchwood fic; it's got a l o t of recs on there, largely jack/ianto.

ok and straying from lj briefly for two other places to find fic...

✎ kink_bingo: this is a dreamwidth comm, and it's not torchwood-exclusive, so i've linked straight to the torchwood tag. this comm has a livejournal equivalent, but for some reason the tw tag is pretty barren on that one? not sure why. but on dw it's got a fair amount. the tagging system is rough, it tags fandom and kink but not pairing, which is irritating, and every post is hidden under a cut AND makes you go through a discretion barrier every single time (but probably only if you don't have an account? i'm not logged in) which makes navigation a pain. but i dunno, more smut, if you want it.

✎ whofic.com: this site is for doctor who fic, but it's got a very substantial amount of torchwood fic. i do not, however, like the formatting at all. i'm being overly nice; i HATE the formatting. it's very reminiscent of fanfic dot net but, like, worse. it reminds me of adultfanfiction dot org which was a NIGHTMARE to use. but! there is torchwood fic there so it's going in here.

I noticed we tend to dominate the trending sections every Thursday across social platforms (as we should) but it's usually after the episode comes out.

Which understandable.

I've had this idea rattling around since I started watching live on Twitter and have seen that we're taking over the trending tags🤣.

I want to start a fan hashtag/space.

So here's my proposal.

#911 ThrowbackTuesday (and what it entails.

I thought it'd be fun to have the og/older fans telling stories about the fandom, information we won't know, the best personal episode and other info for the influx of new fans. (And who doesn't love to reminisce about the good old days?)

For rewatches and comments

The popular theories of the past (and how wrong or right they were and how funny it was when it was our wasn't proven)

Older blog posts that relates to older episodes

Older Twitter accounts that were popular/were can see what it was like when it started airing.

Old cast photos (please we need them for pfps and other reasons...)

Legendary fan photos (aka tweets etc)

During rewatches acting like it's new info can be really funny too

Interacting with new fans about stuff that happened during the original airing.

I find it fun personally to hear stuff from the older fans and they get to share their excitement and new fans can get it because most of us didn't get the fun of the past seasons.

It's a way to bridge the gap (not that there's one really) and have all fans come together and be unhinged together.

It's a yap fest. 🤗 And what a beautiful one it will be...

And then there's,

ThursdayTakeover is the biggest one.

I have ideas for the drought we're having and we can keep it on trending at least, as it brings good attention and new fans (and subsequently more seasons yes it's all coming together).

There's two protocols I've cooked up.

The drought version (aka now)

This version is dedicated to the present and future of 911. The hastag can be used to post on any day but it's like a little notebook for all things unhinged before new episodes come out.

For when the shows not airing it'll be this:

Theories about future episodes

Meta (all the juicy meta your heart desires)

Current fan works based in the present or future episodes (this includes fanfics, fan art etc)

Spec fics/sneak peek of current work

Regular media sharing

I think this would be easy as I noticed it's a bit hard to navigate specific fan works and information during airing/older posts when using Tumblr due to it not having a specific date system.

This way it kind of lets you put it all in one beautiful hastag that you can scroll for hours and know what exactly is going to be going on.

I'd just like an archive or sorts as it is a bit hard to put together information as a new fan.

For when it's airing it's a bit different.

It'll be from before the show starts business as at usual there's no need to really worry about trending as it'll do it regardless, but I'm the case is the hashtag if it's a takeover then we have to really takeover. Like all day.

This applies to the hours before we watch on airing days:

Theories/discussions about airing episodes (then after discussing whether or was right or wrong and clowning your theories/the unhingedness of it all)

Sneak peeks /media

Using the hastag to let everyone know what's up and the timeline WILL be flooded with our fruity family that we love and adore🥰

I love love your Eichi works, but one thing I wondered while reading through them. Why would Eichi take an interest in his darling? What kind of person would capture him? What was the start of it all?

In general, I’m going to be editing my writing list here soon/making new separate posts regarding character lists, and along with that, I started working on my own yandere profiles/summary sheets that I’ve seen some other creators make for their own works. My goal is to try to eventually get what I have in my out, which is nearly all Enstars and one twisted— which isn’t bad— it’s just my list will likely be changing soon. Enstars will stay; don’t worry, though.

P.s. if you have a character you like as a yandere and you see something like this and think, ‘Oh, they aren’t describing me at all,’ who cares? I say this with positivity. Stuff like this is meant for fun, for indulgence, and enjoyment, and while I like writing the analysis side of things, don’t take it overly serious. Enjoy the characters you like and how you want. I’m only saying this cause I had someone who said they get upset when people mischaracterize characters different from how they perceive them??

Tenshouin Eichi; Unedited. Gender Neutral Reader.

Warnings; what? Fairly normal Eichi? No. It just doesn’t go into many detailed warnings. Overall just keep in mind this is still yandere content; mentions of jealousy and very subtle mentions of manipulation.

This blog is 17+ please have your age in your bio or tagged; any ageless blog and below the age asked for will be blocked at the end of the week.

I’d say there are three main things, and really two are more general factors in someone’s life, while one can manifest in a variety of personalities in different ways. While there are some whose specific traits in someone might drive them, Eichi comes off as more of a slow burn who becomes interested in others, not in personality but in different ways that can draw him to you, which leads to establishing a connection based on your own sense of self.

I’ll start with the general factor since this is probably the most out of your control/lack of personality traits. For one, Eichi has always been a very jealous person. He’s envious of so many things; fundamentally, look at the start of his relationship with Wataru for proof. Eichi was jealous, envious of what Wataru could have that he didn’t, even if there was admiration underneath. Eichi ironically mentions how he wants to step down from power, from the over looming presence he has in the industry but coming from such an affluent background and being a pillar in the industry— not only as a performer but as a business executive. Everything you have, everything you do essentially can be put up in the eyes of Eichi, which gives him a lot to feel envious of. Your closeness with other idols and staff, even more, if you aren’t as involved with Fine. Eichi might not regret his actions, but if it’s so easy for you to seamlessly get along with others without the need for manipulation and control, he’d likely become more invested in you. Getting closer and, in turn, building up those key blocks that he eventually uses against you once unlocking his feelings.

Similarly, this could be applied to other things like having closeness to your family or, in some cases, a found family; Eichi states his family is not loving. He’s even to an extent disgusted by them so openly being able to see factors of how you might have a positive relationship with people in your family; parents or siblings creates a jealousy that, for some reason, draws him in. Alternatively, a found family is no exclusion if you aren’t on or don’t have the ability to connect with your family; it’s just the compassion and love without expectation he has rooted envy of that brings him closer.

Just consider the ideal Eichi notes of how he’s been someone who’s lived ‘standing alone’ his whole life, comparatively to someone who maybe it’s only recently, but does have strong support or foundations in others as one thing that would draw him in. You can take this for many different things as long as it’s somewhat public within the company, which would cause Eichi to get involved, which would be an easier way to get to know your personality and cause the events of his behaviors to increase.

So that’s one way to get him close; in terms of more defining traits, Eichi isn’t someone with a bleeding heart [at least not in the sense of overtly sympathetic]. However, he does tend to have a soft spot for those who also tend to struggle with sickness or other issues. We see this in his relationship with Chiaki and Leo, people who have struggled with various forms of sickness have brought them closer. If it’s a chronic illness or some form of mental health issues— someone who gets common colds or even says something that might only affect once and awhile like allergies, Eichi instinctually finds it easier to bond with those who can have similar life experiences.

None of this is to say he sees it as babying or that it necessarily makes you weaker. Look at him, how he’s well aware of his limitations but has turned those into his strengths. Something like this isn’t a major make or break factor, but this does lead to a much more common segway to see him and converse that would establish a bond over time to use your specific personality to interest him.

So the last reason, as I mentioned, can manifest in different ways. What I mean is someone can be loud and brash in how they choose to handle situations they feel passionate about, just as much as someone might be quiet, logical, and reserved in their actions for the same outcome. In this case we might consider these polar opposites, so what could make both or anything in between draw in Eichi? The answer is that it’s someone with passion and a fighting spirit for what they want to see a difference in especially if this comes to the industry.

Eichi, more than anything, mentions how he wants a playmate. He wants a challenge, someone who can counter and entertain him. I’m not sure how many people know this, but Eichi mentions how he specially worked to groom Anzu into being someone he considered a worthy enemy, someone who could challenge his structure and power ideals. It’s something that likely would continue to draw his eye, someone who he knows can fight his yandere tendencies and, despite being a partner, be a foil to his ideals. Of course, he works to always be one step ahead and have the upper hand, which is reasonably easy for him, but that doesn’t change the fact that he likes an intelligent ‘rival’.

Being able to counter him doesn’t need to be in a specific way; someone might be much more quick to handle a challenge he throws at them or verbally be loud when calling out specific actions of his. But this doesn’t mean someone who is willing to lose or forfeit some of these challenges for a more significant victory doesn’t entice him more in either as an idea of being the counterbalance to him. As long as you have somewhat of a fighting spirit for what you think is right in the industry and within the relationship that he can shape into what he wants, then it doesn’t matter in what ways it truly shows.

In Baldur’s Gate, Dragons Dungeon You! | Art Master Post

An SPN/D&D mashup that can be read on its own or part of the greater series The Way Things Ought to Be.

On a quiet afternoon a week shy of Christmas, Dean is interrupted while poking through the news for a case. Someone is pounding on the Bunker door. After a brief huddle with Sam and Castiel, they investigate to find Charlie on the other side, a box of books at her feet. She needs to use their archive for research and a place to stay while she does it. Of course, she's always welcome at the Bunker

After showing her to a room, Dean offers to help her unpack. He finds her collection of Dungeons & Dragons books in the box and asks to borrow one: Candlekeep Mysteries. Charlie offers to run one of the campaigns from the book, specifically, The Scrivener's Tale. And Dean, giddy as a school girl, rushes off to gather his party for a good ol' fashioned mystery.

But the game is afoot and has been since Charlie's unannounced arrival. Between that and her awkward behavior, Dean can't shake a familiar, nagging worry. There's just one problem: he can't remember what, exactly, it is about her or her behavior that's got him on edge. And neither can anyone else.

The campaign unravels—along with Charlie's secrets—as she tells the story of The Scrivener's Tale.

Characters/Pairings: Castiel/Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester/Eileen (implied polycule with Rowena and Gabriel), Jack, Charlie Bradbury, several original characters during the D&D campaign. I tried my best to format the different PoVs between the players and their characters, but blockquotes/formatting on Tumblr in general sucks, so good luck (I suggested using the AO3 link at the top of every chapter). Since this was a Media themed event, I also managed to sneak in over 80 (88 to be precise) pop culture references. feel free to ignore/delete this ask for any reason, but i need to ask someone because i can't tell if i'm imagining things or not, and i know you've sort of talked about things like this before, but has there been a large jump in... not always active arophobia, but in the amatonormativity in mcyt fandom spaces lately? it feels like things go untagged, there's a larger focus on romance and love, and the active aphobia that there is just goes quietly unmentioned by the majority, and all of these more than before. this isn't me trying to say shipping's bad or anything, i don't have a problem with it, just that this fandom has felt so alienating lately for some reason and i can't figure out whether it's because something's changed in the fandom itself or not

i think this is genuinely a really interesting topic to talk about so i'm giving this a kinda longer response!

(tl;dr -- it's not just you and things have changed, but it's also not what you might think; this is how most non-mcyt fandoms are)

so! to start with, more than ever i think the amatonormativity thing depends on the specific sub-fandom you're in. qsmp's a huge outlier; by virtue of having canon relationships it brings itself more in line with the average fandom in terms of how much people talk about ships (being in a non-mcyt fandom or two helps for perspective on this. i s2g half the tag for murder drones is just ship wars. nonstop ship wars. please stop i want to discuss lore).

with qsmp being such a genuinely interesting outlier (it's something the english mcyt fandom hasn't seen in a while in terms of a series with explicitly canon relationships being mainstream) i think that causes a lot of people to really want to post about these relationships, because like... people feel strongly about being able to express this aspect of their interests in a way they weren't able to before, i think? we've never personally been interested in shipping stuff (with like maybe 5 exceptions ever across all fandoms we've ever been in) but the attitude towards shipping used to be so INCREDIBLY hostile that i think people take their ability to post ship stuff very personally.

i'm not sure about other series, though -- this is where things get weird, because we're not really in mainstream mcyt fandom right now. we don't follow a lot of hermitshippers, but most of them generally tag their stuff? on reblogs it's a bit more sloppy but i also think a lot of people tend to just put "i post [server]shipping content" in their bios as like a blanket reminder and leave it at that

all that said, i don't think it's intentional amatonormativity, or even remotely malicious. i do think we're seeing a lot more ship content than usual/it's a little more difficult to find platonic stuff than it used to be in general mcyt fandom -- this VERY much varies based on series, though. we currently main dominion/adjacent and there's not shit for ship stuff there (to be fair, there's also not a lot of fandom in general, it's Mad Small), whereas with something like trafficseries there's a lot of focus placed on shipping partly because that series is Heavily About character dynamics.

am i tired of seeing ship content as like the main product of fandom? oh, absolutely, but that's nothing new -- that's been the case since before we had this blog, before we were even in mcyt fandom at all. fandoms are just Like This, which can absolutely be exhausting if you're not here for ship content, but this sort of thing is not uncommon for any more mainstream fandoms.

so, yes, it's not just you, there's more amatonormativity in mcyt fandom than there used to be -- because it's starting to act more and more like most fandoms, and therefore is reflecting the amatonormativity most fandoms have, whereas before there was such a hostile attitude towards shipping that this absolutely Could Not be the case.

it sucks in some ways, but at the same time it's very important to note: this is not a new problem. this is an old problem. this is a problem as old as fandom itself, and mcyt fandom is only just getting to a place where people have stopped tearing each other's throats out long enough to act like most other fandoms do.

Patreon, moving and trying stuff for the heck of it

The tl;dr is that my writing and tag games are moving to Patreon, for free. I'm still using this blog as my main and a writeblr. You'll likely won't see more writing here but you'll probably see lots of links to patreon posts. Since I'm new to Patreon, I'm open to advice about how to use it, if I should use it at all, and anything else. More details under the cut owo)/

You probably know that they've started approaching AI in here, which is a big turn off for creators. It's me, I'm creators.

While my main blog here works both as a personal and a writeblr, I've been thinking if, how and where will I migrate my writing to, specifically excerpts and small stuff like writing related tag games. After thinking for a while and getting reassurance from some writer friends, I've decided to migrate it to Patreon.

What does that mean? I hear you ask. It means that all the excerpts, character designs and art related stuff of my wips that would've been shared directly to Tumblr will now be shared directly there. Other stuff like updates on the state of the writing progress I'm making, that's not my writing itself, will most likely continue to be posted on Tumblr since that's kinda the only social platform I use.

So it'll be behind a paywall? You may wonder. No, it will not: all of those things I mentioned earlier (excerpts, lines, character designs and more) will be free to read and see for everyone. After all, they'd be free if they were in Tumblr, so I want to keep it like that.

You won't post them in Tumblr anymore, then? Like I said, no; not directly at least. I plan to try and see how it goes with me linking the patreon post to my Tumblr every time I upload there. It may be redundant to do all this just to post it here anyway, but it's a way to avoid the Tumblr AI that makes me feel more at peace than just an opt-out button.

What about writeblr tag games? A valid question, in a lot of those you have to share your writing. For now my plan is to do them in bulk so I can have one big post with all of them there, every other month or so, instead of a lot of tiny ones, and then link it over here. I think that'll work better, and it'll also give me time to stock on them. In other words, wether we're mutuals or not here, please tag me in things!! It'll take a while, but I promise I'll get to it. Eventually.

Why Patreon though? Well, I don't need to tell you that we live in capitalist times, and as a recent college graduate without a job that wants to be an indie writer, Patreon is a good option for me to make some sort of revenue. However, I don't work fast enough to show stuff on Patreon as rewards on a regular basis, that is, if you don't count stuff like small excerpts and tag games (which are sometimes one and the same), nor do I have a massive following that'd be willling to wait more between rewards. This is the second reason why I decided to migrate things there; first, to avoid the AI; second, to have something to show for my writing and do a little nudge to say Hey, if you like what you read, there's a way right here to support me so I can continue it. I could use other platforms like Ko-Fi, but if I'm gonna put time into something that allows me to earn some spare cash, I prefer it to be the one that'd let me have those earnings on a more regular basis.

Unless Ko-Fi has changed how it works, in which case I'll be checking it out later.

I don't have a set goal nor does my income currently depend on this, so I think it's a good time to start posting things to a Patreon without stressing myself that "it has to work". In the end, this is all just me trying things around to figure out what works and what not. If it doesn't work and people don't want to do an extra click to read my stuff, like I said, it's not like there's a lot of pressure on me right now. I've had a few years living with a Just Do It mentality and this is a extension of that, so for now I'll try this out, see where it goes, and how it develops.

I have a few things to tweak and prepare for the Patreon page to be ready for launching, so if you have any suggestions about how to use Patreon or if my approach is wrong and you know a better platform for this, please do tell me! Like I said, this is all just trial and error, so I'll learn as I do.

Listen I’ve been following you for close to a decade at this point and I love what I see of all of your characters but I also know nothing about them. Do you have refs? Backstory I can haunt? More art in a secret vault somewhere?

yunno I briefly thought about making lil summary cards for everyone cuz I was thinking I don't say much about any of my ocs outside of private convos w friends, but all the stuff I've posted for them is tagged with their name! quite a bit of stuff in there is probably outdated/been reworked though and I've just never gotten around to posting new stuff.

I'll drop some brief summaries- a beginner's guide if you will-

Stellian - Loves the idea of power. Loves to manipulate others. Does not want to be held accountable for it. Will martyr himself to not get held accountable for it. If I ever saw him in real life I would feel obligated to take him down.

Niall - The everyman farmboy you wanna have a drink with. Will eat that weird bug if you dared him to and especially if you give him a dollar. Says the wrong thing most of the time but is also a huge carelord so it sort of balances out.

Oli - IDK how else to explain him other than in a contemporary AU he is writing a PhD thesis on an extremely specific niche of ancient Elvhen history and he refuses to upgrade his 2003 nokia phone. Surprisingly tolerant and even indulgent of tomfoolery.

Addison - Not really a Mom Friend, but she is the one you call at 2 am because you threw up/have a flat tire/need to cover up a murder. If she didn't have to be Shepard she would be a beer-crushing auto-mechanic who keeps a shotgun by her fax machine just in case it starts acting up. (I like the Synthesis ending because we love character development here.)

Nate - The kid who got the "has a lot of potential, he just needs to apply himself" comment at parent-teacher conferences. Charismatic in a way that undoubtedly makes him Alec Ryder's son but don't tell him that. A bit of a slut (affectionate). Weak ankles.

A Redemption Earned Ch 20

Heather Dunbar x reader Warnings: some very minor hurt/comfort. heavy on the comfort. Also I'm no longer going to be tagging the language/alcohol or weed shit cause it's all very minor. I WILL tag them if it's excessive or negative situations come out of them though, no worries. Also besties, how are we feeling about the pacing of these updates? Too slow? Too fast? do you find you're having enough time to read it before i post the next one? Obvi sometimes it's out of my control if i don't have it written, i can't post it, but I can alter it a little bit. LMK.

The first four days following new year’s were exactly what you needed, although you would’ve preferred Heather to be there too, you understood her need to work. You spent most of it in bed, taking advantage of the plush bedding to snooze your way through multiple marathons of movies and shows. You indulged in a lot of room service, treated yourself to a nice massage and took advantage of the jacuzzi soaker tub in the suite. It was exactly what you needed to unwind before going back to work yourself.

You checked out a day early, notifying Heather you were doing so, and headed back home. School started again on the sixth and you wanted to make sure you had everything in order, and that your house wasn’t a mess from the pre Christmas vacation days. You spent the majority of the day separating your stuff into your work bag, and that you had everything you wanted for Cody’s welcome package. You did a few loads of laundry, some tidying around the house and started to dismantle the Christmas decorations. You sent a couple of texts off to Heather that her responses were rather short handed, but it was day time, you figured she was at the office, so you let her work in peace.

On the other side of Rock Creek Park, Heather was in fact actually gearing up to go back to work herself, even if she wasn’t actually working on an open case. She was simply trying to distract herself from the thoughts floating through her head, trying to focus on the conversation with Rob. She’d ended up sticking around for dinner at his place that night, talking things out at a deeper and simpler level. He walked her through it, helped her understand her own thoughts a little bit more than she was able to on her own. They even spent a bit of time talking about their own past and history, Rob reminding her that he accepted her apology, and had forgiven her for the mistakes that ended their marriage. Now, they were friends and parents, and he assured her they were doing a good job at that.

Even after the talk with Rob she still called her therapist and made an emergency appointment, grumbling slightly when all they had available was six thirty in the evening on the fifth. She made a specific point to stay away from alcohol for the time being, she’d been over indulging over the holidays anyways. Instead of just a glass of wine with dinner, it was a bottle and a half split with you, specialty cocktails at all the parties and who really knew how much champagne on New Year’s Eve. She refocussed her energy, cleaning out her home office, hit up the gym a couple of times and even bundled up to take a couple of walks with Rob and Steve in the mornings.

She was pleasantly surprised when Becca showed up on her doorstep with apology cupcakes and an actual apology for being so riled up at Christmas. Heather didn’t lecture, just accepted the apology and made sure Becca knew she was forgiven. She ended up staying for dinner that night and truly enjoyed spending some one on one time with her mom, it was what she needed right now. A little break from her overcrowded house and a person who had enough life experience to talk her through things. It was an added bonus for Heather to be the one giving the advice, finally feeling like she was back in control for once, that she had things handled. Becca left that night with a couple of good real estate listings, the card for Heather’s realtor, and the promise that her mom would help the girls look for a bigger place if they wanted.

The fifth rolled around and you got out of bed far too early, trying to re work your sleep schedule for going back to school. You had your breakfast and far more important coffee before heading to the gym to try and keep yourself awake. After a nice hot shower you got dressed and headed down to the school, letting yourself in to your classroom. Aside from taking down Christmas decorations at home you wanted to get things bright and exciting for the rest of the year in here too. You swapped out Christmas trees and snowmen for bright colours, a few picture collages of students, their little self biographies they’d done just before the holiday. You laid out booklets with a little treat on each desk, making sure yours was stocked with everything you needed before heading home.

You couldn’t lie, you were exhausted already, and the urge to have a nap won over anything else that afternoon. When you woke up you realized you’d kind of snacked your way though the day after breakfast and your stomach was already growling. You had some stuff prepped already, but it was for the week ahead, for lunches so you wouldn’t waste money, and dinners pre portioned out so all you had to do was reheat at the end of the day. You didn’t want to dig into those, and the last thing you wanted to do was cook right now so you opened your phone and flicked through a couple of delivery apps trying to decide on something.

Halfway through ordering you realized what day of the week it was and you quickly checked the TV guide for reference. It was the night that Heather would normally show up at your place, you’d discovered you were both more than obsessed with a certain medical drama, a way to laugh at the ridiculousness and distract you from real life for a bit. You hadn’t missed a night of it airing yet, so you doubled the order you put in for delivery, sighing when it said it was going to take over an hour. You padded back into the kitchen and found some leftover Christmas baking to tide you over until then, pulling out your phone as you did so.

‘I’ve ordered far too many dumplings for tonight; I hope you can manage a break from work.’

You didn’t expect a reply right away, but you also didn’t expect to be met with radio silence. You let out a huff, thinking back to New Year’s Eve, wondering if something went wrong that night causing her to pull away. You couldn’t, but it still left a weight in your gut that maybe you’d said or done something to freak her out. If you hadn’t already ordered the delivery you would’ve picked it up on the way over to her place instead, but you were stuck here for the time being.

Seven rolled around and you still hadn’t heard anything back from Heather, the show was starting and the dumplings were plated up and ready to go. So you let out a small sigh, filling up a glass of wine and tucking yourself into the couch, hoping that she’d pop up through your door any minute.

‘Everything alright? Or are you just this buried in work?’

You didn’t want to blow up her phone so you tossed yours aside and focussed on dinner and the show instead.

Full to the brim you packed up the leftover food during a commercial break, noticing the stove clock you realized it had been a full forty-five minutes, the show was almost over. Your curiosity got the best of you and you wandered back into the living room and picked up your phone. Still nothing. Frowning, you opened the text conversation, making sure the messages had actually been delivered. They were, so you shot off one last one.

‘Heat…are we good? Cause I’ve barely spoken to you since New Year’s and you’re kinda freaking me out right now…’

If she really was too busy or focussed to return your text, you weren’t going to bother with a phone call interrupting her right now. Instead, you dropped down onto the couch with a frown on your face, picking up your wine glass to watch the last ten minutes of your show. The worry was starting to creep through you, wondering if you were in the process of being ghosted after all the work both of you had put into your relationship. You were starting to worry that during one of your tipsier moments over the holiday your true feelings and emotions had slipped out and you’d managed to forget it, that the thought of those words freaked her out. Maybe you’d said something in your sleep? And that’s why she’d actually left the hotel. You had to admit, those thoughts hurt, and you’d always expected better of someone like Heather.

Heather got home far later than she’d wanted to that evening, flipping through her mail as she pressed play on the flashing answering machine of her home phone. It wasn’t anything crucial, just Rob seeing if she was free for a family dinner on Sunday, that he couldn’t get a hold of her on her cell. She dug through her purse, realizing she’d turned the device off when she left the office and hadn’t turned it back on after her session. She shot off a quick text to him and scrolled through the rest of her notifications, her heart nearly dropping into her stomach at the messages from you. Without even thinking she immediately turned around and was back out the door in a matter of seconds.

Across the park, you were doing the last bit of tidying up, making sure you had lunch portioned out for tomorrow, ready in the fridge. Your dirty dishes made their way into the dishwasher, and you flicked off the light in the kitchen, traipsing through to the living room and repeating the motion in there. You were two steps up the stairs when there was a knock echoing from the front door behind you, you paused, turning back to it, knowing that there was a ninety nine percent chance you knew who was on the other side of it. You hopped down the stairs and padded over to the door, unlocking it and pulling it open.

“I am so sorry.” Heather instantly apologized, “I booked a last minute therapy session and tonight was all they had open, I turned my phone off for it and forgot to turn it back on. I never meant to make you worry.” You could see the slight panic in her eyes, the way she was hovering in the doorway, usure if you would want her to actually come in or not.

“Oh…” you let out a breath, “no, it’s okay, I just… you never miss a night of sexy doctors.” You stepped back, letting her in and the door swung shut behind her. A very quick greeting of a chaste kiss was had, and Heather barely had time to take a breath before she launched into it, she didn’t want to keep secrets from you anymore.

“I lied to you…” Your head shot up, surprise on your face and your crossed your arms over your chest.

“About what?”

“I didn’t have a client, there was no work call on new year’s. I’ve barely even been in the office at all this week.”

“Okay…” Your brow furrowed, almost more confused than before, you leant against the wall, waiting for Heather to explain herself.

“I panicked. When things got kinkier, it felt like I was slipping, regressing, that I was going to come out of there the Heather that I used to be. And that really scared me because the absolute last thing in the world I ever want is for you to have to experience that. You’re too kind, too caring, and absolutely perfect and you never deserve to be treated like that.” Her hand reached out, caressing at your cheek and you leant into it with a gentle hum, “and then I realized that by leaving, by lying, I was probably still hurting you. I was so caught up with making sure I wasn’t slipping that I couldn’t figure out what the lingering feeling in my chest was, I was sitting there thinking it was guilt, or some other bullshit, then Rob helped me realize that I’d forgotten what real love actually feels like.” Your gaze shot up to hers at that, your heart leaping into your throat.

“Is… this your convoluted way of telling me you love me?”

“I…” Heather let out a slightly awkward laugh, “yes. I guess it is.” Her hand squeezed at yours, “I love you. And I know that I’m…complicated, and difficult, and it took one hell of a hard road to get here, and that I can be a stubborn pain in the ass some days”—

“Being a stubborn pain in my ass doesn’t mean I don’t love you too.” You cut her off and it was her turn to be surprised, her eyes widening as she took in the warm smile on your cheeks.

“Really?” She nearly shrunk as she asked and you tried not to frown.

“Yes.” You stepped toward her, pressing a reassuring kiss to her lips, “I love you. Your past may be complicated, but you are not hard to love Heather. In fact, you’re incredibly easy to love, and if you don’t believe that, then I’m just going to have to remind you every single day. I knew I was head over heels, I just wanted to wait for you to catch up before I said anything. I know you’re not always the greatest with words, but you still express yourself in many other ways, even if your thoughts are all tangled up in that pretty head of yours.”

“You are… everything I ever could have asked for.” She replied with a smile, leaning in to kiss you once again, “I don’t know what I was so confused about, I mean, time stands still when I’m with you.”

“You’re too sweet.” You stole a quick kiss before your hands slid from her shoulders down her arms to squeeze at her hands, “and we can talk about the kinky stuff, figure out some boundaries, I mean, if you don’t like it, we can drop the mommy thing.”

“Oh, oh no.” Heather chuckled, her hand coming to pinch gently at your chin, “I like that part very much.”

“I make sure to remember that then.” You grinned, linking your hand in hers, “I was about to head upstairs, I do have to be up early for work, but you’re always welcome to stay.”

“I believe I saw something about dumplings. I’m just now realizing I skipped dinner.”

“Yeah.” You let out a small laugh, “got more than enough time for a couple episodes before I need to sleep.” You pressed a kiss to her cheek, “c’mon.”

The light in the living room got flicked back on, you offered Heather a glass of wine and reheated a plate for her. Nestled into her side you let out a happy sigh, body melting into hers and she laid a tender kiss on the top of your head. After everything, you knew that this was exactly where you wanted to be, and Heather knew it too. Nothing else mattered as long as you had each other, the past couldn’t be fought, just explored, and you were both far more interested in what your future had in store.

I think it's time to reveal a new personal thing about myself on Tumblr. CW, check the tags

A long time ago, when I was 13, I started getting intense anxiety, mostly related to germs. My parents had me go see to a psychologist, and (I just confirmed this with my mom recently to make sure I was correct in remembering this) they diagnosed me with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

OCD remains the only mental health condition I have ever officially been diagnosed with, to my knowledge. I've talked to a couple healthcare providers and a therapist in the last three years or so, and I told them about how I have anxiety (based on my own understanding of the term), and they were like "yeah man that sounds like anxiety", and in fact one of them prescribed me a pill for anxiety (an as-needed thing, not an SSRI - you can DM me if you're curious specifically). But I don't think any of them like, gave me a formal assessment and wrote up official documentation saying "Limeade has an Anxiety Disorder", or anything.

But I did get that one OCD diagnosis when I was 13. And I do remember having symptoms of that at the time. But they thankfully kind of abated (this is the word my mom used, and I think it's the right one) around the later part of high school, and were basically gone during my time in college, the AmeriCorps program I did, and about a year and a half after that. I barely even thought about it for most of that time. That was like a ~9-year period!

And then the Covid pandemic hit, and my life got more difficult in some other ways, and the obsessive-compulsive symptoms started to come back. Fairly mildly at first, but lately I've been having what seem like OCD symptoms, pretty intensely, about certain health-related themes. (If anyone's curious for more detail, you can DM me, I didn't want to say more here in case it could be triggering for anyone).

And there are a lot of things I strongly dislike about this, but one of them is just - it makes me annoying to people around me. I can tell.

I'm not really going anywhere in particular with this post. Tumblr is just my "yelling into the void" website, especially about mental health stuff, and I figured I might as well share this in case I ever want to reference it here in the future

First of all: I am here to have a good time. My portrayal of Stephen is going to be of more or less casual nature, but that doesn't mean that I don't intend to portray him seriously. My knowledge, though, is limited; This means his portrayal won't be highly in-depth and might be missing things here and there. I am also absolutely not familiar with the comics, so zero knowledge in that regard, and still need to rewatch most movies (have rewatched Dr. Strange 1 & 2 so far, still missing all the other movies where he appears - I have seen those in the past but it is been a long while). If you cannot handle my lack of said knowledge, this blog might not be for you. Otherwise: I'm looking forward to interact with you!

Some basic RP rules: No god-modding (some things are allowed if it makes sense in the context of the RP: My muse following yours into a room etc. That being said, Strange is a sorcerer and he can do some things that might be considered 'god-modding' in a loose sense (e.g. make your muse change location with him in an instant). Be prepared for that to happen.), the mun is absolutely not the muse (means when muse says / does / acts a certain way it does not mean that the mun condones it and/or would act the same), muses can also be wrong (yes, my Stephen might be rude, or have wrong/no knowledge, or misunderstand your muse, and your muse is allowed to do the same as well!), and please communicate with me if there are any issues at hand (I promise I won't bite, but I am highly allergic to talking-behind-my-back kind of stuff. I am almost 34 years old, I can handle communication).

Some blog-specifications: This blog is mutuals-only (non-mutuals are allowed to send in asks about headcanons / muse-development etc), therefore highly-selective, and I might not always reply to threads in the same order they come in; That means I will reply to some threads faster than to others, simply because my excitement fluctuates. That does not mean I don't like interacting with you, I promise. Regarding replying-speed: I am usually quite fast and reply within a few days or a week. In rare cases it can be multiple weeks or a month. You are allowed to ask me about a reply in case I haven't answered in 2 weeks or such, but please don't pester me about them. Another thing about replying / threads: I might drop threads after a while if I feel there's simply not much existing anymore that can be added / written in any way. I might not inform you about this decision but you are absolutely allowed to ask me if I did - and, in case I did, I am almost always happy to start a new thread from a new perspective or after a time-jump or something to have our muses interact more! I just don't like trying to force-squeeze interaction into a thread that would have died otherwise already. I prefer doing new threads to keep things fresh and exciting. This blog is also 18+, means I won't interact with any muns under the age of 18 and I honestly prefer if you are above 21 years old. NSFW will be present in various shapes. I put replies containing smut under a 'read more'. I also tag my NSFW-things with either Suggestive; or UnSFW;, so you can block the tags if needed.

More RP-stuff: I love Crossovers, AU's, completely made-up stuff, timetravel-shenanigans, Universe-shenanigans and whatever one can think of. I am also open for OC's and Canons alike. OC's need to be fleshed-out and provide information for me to find easily. I will scroll through blogs that follow me and check whether our writing-styles match and judge whether I could see us interacting; If I don't, I won't follow back. If I follow you back, I want to write with you - the same goes for if I follow you first! I prefer to interact with non-animated FCs (exceptions are being made for Marvel-comic-muses), and I personally love to include simple icons into my replies. However, I will also adapt and sometimes not use icons - you are very welcome to decide upon whether you want to use some or not. I use small text, but other than that, I don't format my replies much. You are welcome to format as much as you desire to, I simply won't adapt to your style. If you, for any reason, need me to keep my posts as 'regular text' to make it easier for you to read, please tell me and I will totally do that for you. I usualy write quite long replies and prefer multi-para. I only do shorter things rarely and mostly for crack / casual interactions. Please do not reply to my multi-para with a single sentence - you do not need to match my sometimes insane length by any means, but please give me something to work with.

Concering drama / communication: I am not here for drama of any kind, whether it might be personal drama or Marvel / MCU drama. I write with who I want to write, I use whatever FC I want to use, and I have the right to (soft-)block whoever I want to for any given reason. I won't allow rude anons to slide into my askbox; Any kind of rude anon ask will be deleted on sight.

Regarding shipping: I love shipping, I'm not going to lie about it. However, I am also here for all the platonic ships of any kind. I prefer to write M/M ships and for some personal favorite ships of mine I might even do some insta-shipping, but I also prefer to have chemistry lead to our muses to get close to each other. F/M ships have to develop over time, the chemistry has to be perfect, and will, most likely, rarely happen - so don't expect your muse to be shipped with mine unless the chemistry works. I'm sorry about that, but this is for my personal comfort. It's nothing against your muse in any shape or form. Some favorite ships of mine: IronStrange and KhanStrange (yes, I like some odd ships and no, I don't care if you approve of it or not), but if the chemistry works, any ship will turn into my favorite, honestly. I do not ship Pal.mer.Str.ange. There's a reason it never worked out and I personally will never see Stephen and Christine ending up with each other in any Universe. Regarding her: My Stephen has separated himself successfully from her and does not run after her anymore, doesn't matter much at which point of his timeline an RP is going to happen (there's exceptions, of course - the closer to the 'beginning' of Dr. Strange's origins, the more likely he is to still have feelings for her).

About the mun: Hi, you can call me L., she/her/they/them, I am 34 years old, married and mother of two cats. I am honestly just a bean; My rules might come across as a bit strict or written in a very serious manner, but I myself am just a wrinkly potato that's screaming way too much about favorite fandoms and ships and I am awkward as hell. Do you write in order? Generally, yes. Every once in awhile I'll have a scene or a little piece of something that gets written as it comes to mind, but it's often outline->write. The outlining/brainstorming process (as much as it is a process) is where the order happens.

This is notably not the case with Ask Me Anything, though, which is a collab and timey-wimey to boot, so lots of stuff needed to get figured out of order. We still haven't finished writing the chapter we're in the middle of posting, but the next one is finished and the rest are kinda 50/50 or 60/40.

How fully formed does your writing come out the first try? Gonna say a good 85-95%?? Depends on the story and whether I'm getting other eyes on it before posting. Most of Revenge Ranch got written and posted with a cursory read-through for glaring errors. Kitchen Mistakes & How To Avoid Them, though, tends to have its word count/phrasing fluctuate like 10-15% every chapter thanks to a delightfully nitpicky beta reader.

How many drafts do you go through? I don't really draft, per se? I spit it out, I review it, I get feedback (sometimes), I make changes, annnnd I'm done. Well, I guess that's technically drafting phases, but it tends to be less thorough than what I'm picturing.

Tell me about your process. I get an idea. It takes hold of my entire goddamn brain. I am compelled to start writing it down in some loose structure, usually bulleted lists, just to get it out of my brain. Sometimes the idea keeps growing, almost self-propelled (All That I Need Is You And The Sea). Sometimes it incubates a bit before it comes together, and needs to keep being formed and re-formed as it goes (Kitchen Mistakes), but the idea is still kind of in charge, if that makes sense.

Other times, I really need to work at it, like, I know I want to do something with X character, but I need to do some background research, think about what my goals are for the thing, make notes on the POV character, etc. I put a lot of time into breaking down Revenge Ranch Roach for his POV story last fall, and that was kind of like pulling teeth, though I'm happy with the result. I think this version of the process might end up with more of "me" in it. Maybe because I have to work at connecting to it.

While I'm actually writing, I typically try to keep some VERY simple/high-level notes handy--like the key plot points/character notes to hit--but abandon the rest. Exception: if the background research includes some specific entity (object, video, song, etc.) I need to describe/reference in the story itself. Even if I don't feel like I'm in a 'flow' state or whatever, often I'll just sit there and try to start pecking out some dialog or description of wherever I'm at, and it starts to move along, or doesn't.

Sometimes I have to flit through a lot of background noise to find the right vibe for my brain at a given moment. The nicest, though, is finding one of those "8hr ambient aesthetic vibes" videos on YouTube that is kinda close to the setting I'm writing. There's a road trip Revenge Ranch story that I wrote while watching someone's dashcam video of a drive through New Mexico. I watched a TON of thunderstorm videos for a couple other entries. A chapter of Kitchen Mistakes that took place in Stede's study was helped along by one of those "evening fireplace and rain sounds" ambient videos. Fuckin' love those videos. It hits a sweet spot of noise (without lyrics or too much rhythm) and background imagery like watching TV, but without all the distraction.

In terms of technical settings: I like writing in LibreOffice when I can, but if I'm collaborating at all, it has to be GDocs. And I am a heavy user of headings/outlines in that case. I have a half-assed AO3 post template in LibreOffice with places for notes etc. to copy and paste in order. I've been known to make a spreadsheet when shit gets very complicated. My brain loves little boxes. I don't write on my phone except maybe some notes to self in Signal for ideas that come up when I'm not at my laptop. Love a physical keyboard and multiple windows, mmm, room to spread out and see lots of shit at once.
