your SOCIAL ANXIETY guide to ORDERING FOOD from a [shitty burger chain] CASHIER

hey are u terrified of ordering food. yeah me too and it's literally my job i live in constant anxiety . but lemme lay down some stuff

1) most importantly. You are in my life for all of like 10 minutes max. I will not remember who you are unless you are exceptionally rude to me. Did you stutter? Did you say the wrong thing? Did you have to ask for some changes to the item? You're the 30th person to do that today it's chill. I will never think about you again

2) if I'm not bright and cheery or smth then please know a lot of us are like , 1 week into this job and already expected to manage the drive through and front register recieving, filling and giving orders as one person for six hours straight. If I'm exhausted or blunt i swear it's not you unless you've been rude. You're not an inconvenience and it is not your fault for irresponsible management overworking us. If you wanna show courtesy just be like "hang in there/you're doing great" or smth bc it shows you get it yk it feels nice haha

3) I'm sure this varies from brand to brand but honestly coupons are SUPER easy. A little four digit code and a whole order comes up and i don't have to try to make out from the shitty broken drive thru speakers? Hell yeah dude. I do not give a single shit about the store not making as much money it is not my problem

4) if you ask for extra sauces or a free water or something and there's no manager around I'll slide you some. If there is I'd have to say no. Just accept whatever answer you're given and it's cool

5) Take your order step by step instead of all at once. Ik you have it rehearsed and just wanna get it out and thats cool for some cashiers but for me it's easiest if people continue once i say "okay". If you do say it all at once tho it's cool some people can do that and if we can't we'll repeat stuff back to you just be patient yk. I'm probably an exception bc i have auditory processing issues (no i should not have this job but i gotta afford my meds somehow BSNSN)

6) if we got something wrong with your order once it's out you have a right to come speak to us about it. We'll never be upset (if we're decent people haha, my stores all cool) but just be patient since to work w the system we usually need a manager. If it doesn't bother you then it's fine too but don't feel like a bad person for getting what you paid for

7) pls do know what you're having before you speak... Like it's okay to not know exactly what to say but the worst is people changing their order 73 times at the window bc once I've confirmed an item i have to go get a manager to change it. This happens all the time though it's okay but if you're super anxious ab being as convenient as possible then yeah yk

8) Taking orders from drive through kinda suckksss bc they do not replace those speakers ever. If i have to ask several times what you said I'm so sorry haha it's not your fault. If there's no one ahead of you and you wanna just drive up to the window it's cool to ask that bc it's usually easier for both of us to hear

9) If there's numbers for meals, it's easier if you say the number. It doesn't rly matter but just a little note for you

10) Again. You are in my life for 10 minutes max. Don't scream at me don't insult me and i won't remember you. I might remember your dog but I will retain zero information about you bc chances are you are a normal ass customer. Even if you switched your order around its literally fine you are not some weight on us, just know you might have to be a little patient. Patience is literally all i ask haha you could ask me to mix all the drinks together and I'd be like chill no problem as long as you patiently wait for it. Today i got screamed at by some 50 year old for taking 7 minutes to get his breakfast sandwich bc i was the only one on drive through. Don't be that and you're chill.

11) oh yeah also if you're like a femme presenting high schooler you are my fave customers haha. I see y'all come in and I relax a sec bc I've never had anyone of that group ever be mean and y'all are always so patient thank you. Thank u to anyone who's patient I'm really trying i promise.
