Wondering, wandering
You know those new version releases of your fav songs you wrote to that make the scenes look like movie edits in your head? Those are pure joy👌
The first bit of drama is about the Mother.
Word count: ~350
But that had been when he still curled up in her lap by the spark of fire at night. Now, she wouldn’t even look his way. The door wasn't even slammed closed anymore – she just left, silent as a breeze, nothing in her wake, as if she were a ghost already.
As if she were a ghost already.
Eyes shot open, tears squeezing out. He reached for the wreath on his head; it snagged as he ripped it downwards, a sudden anger engulfing him, wanting to crush it in his grip, to tear the thorn cuts on his hands wider.
But as soon as it came, he found no place for it. He imagined the flowers crushed in silent agony in his fist, milky sap dribbling over – and his heart couldn’t bear it.
Instead, he brought it to his swollen lips, and pressed a kiss to each flower. “I’m sorry,” he sobbed, and his whole heart was in it.
To the sides, Anne had drawn closer, but she seemed further away than ever.
“I’m sorry,” he echoed again, this time her way.
She closed her eyes. “Don’t worry about me.”
He'd been dreading it for days. So he wasn't surprised when she started away. Now he just sharply turned his head, to cast a shadow on his heart. He buried his nose into the side of his arm. Ears free, he followed the rustle of her wings wandering away, as she surely waded out from the wheat and into the green.
Until, whistling. He looked up, heart beating faster. And across the light, their eyes met, startling him. She hesitated. “If you are overwhelmed – why don't you run away? There's no shame in leaving when you need it. But I shall warn you, it won't make you feel more free.” Softer, “It could put things into perspective.”
“So ask me, to lead you out of the Promised Lands. I will.”
