Lucaille Wig - Neon Genesis Evangelion Asuka Wig Review
(Disclaimer: I was not contacted by Lucaille, sponsored, or asked to do this review. The following is my honest opinion and review of the product I purchased through their online store.)
Tumblr media
Asuka is one of my all time favorite characters. You’ll notice a trend with my cosplay, and that is I only tend to cosplay characters that are near and dear to me.
Asuka is the character I debuted my professional cosplay modeling with in 2015. It was a simple, quick and dirty shoot to help my friend, but it launched me on the path I always wanted to be on. At that time, I borrowed my friends Asuka wig, threw on a bathing suit and jumped into a pool.
Now in 2017, I want to revisit Asuka, and do her more justice in my portrayal as her.
And it generally all starts with a wig.
In my last review, I went over my Lightning Farron wig which I purchased through Circus-Doll Store. This store got their wigs through Lucaille wigs, which I looked into further. This time, I took the plunge and bought my wig directly through the main company - Lucaille Wigs

Once more, I was not one bit disappointed with my wig. Lucaille really makes superior quality wigs. Let’s go over a few key points on this wig!
First, lets discuss cost: In total, with shipping I paid $48.50USD. Really, I find this to be a bargain, considering the wigs exceptional quality! The wig itself was $25.50USD, which is super cheap! The only reason the shipping was so steep in price, is that I always choose the quickest and most secure options when ordering from China. In my personal opinion, its well worth the cost to have your wig arrive to you quickly and safely, and not risk it being damaged or lost. (The horror stories I could share from my early 2000’s overseas shopping...)
Once again, $28.50 for a wig of this quality is a super bargain! I know shops that charge $40+ for wigs that aren’t this luxurious and full! Not to mention...pre-styled!
I think over-all the processing - ship time on this took two weeks max. Good to know for when I need a wig super quick! Especially for one coming directly from China.
With the Asuka wig, you can choose to order it with or without the additional ponytail clips. For the price, I went with the clips, just to have the option and versatility. The basic wig, without clips, is $19.90USD. Again, a huge steal!

As with my last wig, the packing was great! Super secure in a nice bag, then packaged inside another bag. The ponytail clips were also each individually packaged, which is super nice.

Each kept nice and neat in their own hairnets!

When choosing wigs: I love wigs that look more soft and natural, with blends of color. I wanted a natural red/carrot color for Asuka, as opposed to a bright orange wig. This of course, is just personal preference. I also find it super important, no matter the character, to find shades that compliment and work well with your skin tone! This is why I often go for a more natural and muted toned wigs, even for characters with unnatural bright colors. This may take away from spot on accuracy for some people, but I find when translating a character to the real world, even in things like fabric choices, I always like something that is more “real-world accurate.” Again, this is just my personal preference and in some cases, this method wont work well!

Once again, I was blown away by the fullness of Lucaille wigs! You never have to worry about having bald spots! Also, please excuse the messy wig and the blur, my camera was acting up and I had moved the wig around quite a bit without a brush on hand D: MY BAD!
The fullness of this wig, also means styling is a lot easier, as you don’t have to fight to hide gaps when parting the wig or reshaping it. They also do a great job with the top of the wig, by giving it a skin-cap at the crown. The wig fibers are super soft, and the wig itself is very comfortable to wear. With adjustable straps, I again don’t have to worry about the wig not fitting my tiny head or having any strange pockets between my head and the wig body.

In natural lighting, the shade of the wig adjust well! It can seem more muted and dark with a brown hue, or more orange and light, which I think is wonderful! It really shows how much work they put into the wigs, with the mixture of strands and color. Plus, the wig has a natural shine too it, and not a cheap plastic wig one, like you will often see.
I also really like the wig, with or without the clips. For my first test, in my Casual Asuka, I opted to wear the ponytail clips for a more full look, which was really great. It gave a more cute and innocent look. For my next big shoot, I plan on styling the wig without the clips, to give a more accurate and tough vibe. Again, its all about personal preference, and I like the versatility!
The clips themselves are really well made. They used big clips, to support the fullness of the wefts, and each is attached very neatly and securely. Both clip in very nicely to the wig, over the small pigtails that the wig comes pre-styled with.

Here we have a better view of the wigs construction. You can see how they did not skimp on how many wefts they used. Everything is very neatly and securely attached, and I don’t have to worry about chunks of weft falling out, as I have had with other wigs. When brushing it, my wig brush glides right through it, untangling so easily! If only my natural hair would cooperate that well!

In the end, I can not stop raving about Lucaille wigs! Their pricing and quality are really unmatched in my opinion.
