I’m sure you guys know about Etude House if you’re into Korean beauty! They were one of the first brands I heard about once I got into K-beauty and they’re very well-known for having cute packaging and affordable products! They have a ‘princess’ aesthetic which shines through in their packaging especially - the product that got me hooked on Etude House was their Etoinette lipstick (that packaging!) from a few years back.

Today's post is more of a first impressions of these products! Last month I posted my review on the March Pink Bird box quite late and I didn't want to do it again since a lot of people have asked me about these new products since there's no reviews on them yet! Hopefully without my other review fluff like ingredients, etc. you'll still be able to learn a lot about these products. 💕

Disclaimer: These products were sent to me by Etude House for review and consideration. I am not being compensated for this review and opinions are always 100% honest.

The first product I want to talk about is the Fix and Fix Tone Up Primer. Colour correcting has been a big trend lately and Etude House released their colour correcting cushions not too long ago (I reviewed it back in January!)

The Fix and Fix primer is a more traditional colour correcting primer that comes in a tube. There are 3 'tone-up' primers in mint, lavendar and rose as well as a pore primer. I have the mint colour which is supposed to help with redness! These primers also have SPF33 and PA++ protection, which is nice when you don't want to wear proper sunscreen and still want some coverage. Here is a summary of the features:

The primer comes in a simple squeeze tube with a super shiny cap. The amount of product can be controlled easily~

I tried putting some on my hand and blending it out. Of course I don't have any redness on my hand but you can see that the primer doesn't appear visibly green once rubbed in properly.

I tried putting some red lipstick on my hand to see if the green would cover it. I think most of it is covered but you can still see a slight hint of red.

Since I don't really suffer from overall redness, I circled the red spots I have so you can keep an eye on them in the second pic 👀

In general, my redness was covered nicely (the little that I had, anyway) and the acne on my chin is quite well hidden in the after pic. The only thing is that my skin tone isn't very even, but that's not something that the primer claims to do so I won't knock it for that.

I've found that I like wearing this for light coverage on it's own and this is definitely something you could do if you have visible redness.

FIX + FIX TONE UP PRIMER (MINT) RATING: 4 / 5

This is a tentative rating because I can't really judge how good it is at actually covering redness which is the primary function. I'm also not sure if it really extends the length of the foundation I put on top... it didn't really have much of an effect in that area. I am pretty keen to try the 'pore' version of this primer though, since I do have more problems with my pores than I do with redness.

‘No. 19 Vanilla’ is the next lightest and has a pink undertone.

‘No. 21 Petal’ is the next lightest and also has a pink undertone.

‘No. 21 Beige’ is the same shade as Petal but with a yellow undertone.

‘No. 22 Sand’ is a little darker and has a neutral undertone.

‘No. 23 Tan’ is the darkest shade and also has a neutral undertone.

As with most Korean cushions, the neutral undertone tends to pull more gray. I myself prefer yellow undertones as I'm quite warm, but there's only one shade with a yellow undertone which is annoying.

I wish that as well as adding a lighter shade, Etude House would add shades beyond No. 23 because a ton of people can't try cushions due to their limited shade range.

This cushion design features alternating light and dark pink stripes.

I was thinking about the Etude House Dear My Glass Tinting Lips Talk that I reviewed recently, and I thought it'd be super cool to have a similar cushions system! Innisfree already has something similar with their cushions, but I think Etude House's cushion designs have the potential to be much cuter 😊

The thing I don't like about Etude House cushions is that they don't have a button to open it... maybe I'm petty but I feel like every other brand has them these days and I don't really like having to pry open the case.

It blended out nicely and the formula did feel a bit drier than most other cushions I have, on first impressions.

Another unique thing about this cushion is that the cushion puff that comes with it is different. It's thicker than Etude House's other cushions, and the top has a kind of leatherette feeling. I think it's supposed to apply product more densely for fuller covered, but I really didn't like using this puff at all. It was hard to use to blend out the product and it just made my face feel a bit cakey.

On first impressions: this cushion covered my acne quite well, it's still a little noticeable around my chin though. The acne on my forehead is mostly covered and my skintone is a bit more even too. I didn't notice much difference with my eyebags. The colour is a bit light for my skin right now, I would've preferred a darker shade! The undertone is also a little off since Vanilla is a pink undertone shade while I have yellow undertones and you can tell that my face is pinker than my neck.

Since this is a more 'long-lasting' formula, it's also quite matte. In the close-ups you can see that it really clings to acne scars and looks quite obvious up close. I did use a setting spray to go over the dry patches and try to make them a bit less obvious.

Over time, I found that the cushion was quite long-lasting. I wore it for about 8 hours and didn't notice any change in the wear, except where the dry patches originally were when I applied the cushion had started to look dry / patchy again.

Overall, I liked the cushion but it does take a bit more effort for me to use since it clings to my dry patches. I would use it for a long day's outing or an evening event where I need more coverage, but it doesn't really feel lightweight and I don't like to wear heavy make-up on a daily basis.

I've noticed this that super slim eyeliners have been really trendy in Korean products lately. As well as Etude House, I've seen quite a few other brands release similar slim eyeliners.

Etude House has two kinds of their Super Slim liner, the Proof Brush Liner and the Proof Pencil Liner. They're both available in both black and brown.

They both feel like slim pens / markers and the name is in shiny letters.

Here are the tips of the liners. The brush liner is definitely a lot slimmer than the pencil liner.

Here's a comparison that I did with a standard liner to show you how 'slim' these liners are! I'm comparing the Super Slim Proof Brush Liner with the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner.

As you can see, the Stila liner is a bit thicker in the pen body, and the tip is a lot thicker than Etude House's.

I was able to create really thin lines with the brush liner, although it was hard to keep them steady. In the swatch, the brush liner also bled a little but I didn't notice this on the eyes. It's also not quite as dark as Stila's, although the Stila liner is well-known for being one of the darker liquid eyeliners.

It's much harder to get a super thin line with the pencil liner, which makes sense since the liner itself isn't as thin.

In general, I just found the pencil liner hard to use. The first time I used it, it dragged on my eye a lot, and I had to use so much pressure just to glide it along. I thought maybe the skin around my eye was just dry (since I've had that problem before, plus it's getting colder here so I'm using heating more)... but even after applying my usual eye creams it still took so much effort to use. This makes me a bit hesitant to use it since I don't want to drag the area around my eyes so much, it's super delicate. Since the liner isn't that thin, it's also hard to get a nice sharp wing if that's the kind of eye look you go for.

It's very easy to get a sharp wing with the brush liner though! I found it easy to get a precise line and sharp flick, although since the liner tip is quite thin, I kinda had to draw the outline and then fill it in slowly. Like a colouring book, but on my eyes.

If you like wearing super thick eyeliner, this brush liner probably wouldn't be the most ideal for you since you'll have to spend more time to fill in the line compared to a thicker tip. But if you just like to outline your eyes a little, or puppy liner, I think this liner would be really handy for you!

💖 Pros: Very long-lasting (you'll definitely need oil cleanser to clean this off fully) 💔 Cons: Not smooth - drags on the eyes, hard to create wings

I do like to use this liner for soft, natural lines sometimes but I just don't like to use it because I literally have to drag it across my lid to deposit the colour. The only thing I really like about it is that it doesn't budge at all, even if I have to wipe my eyes with a tissue.

I really preferred the brush liner over the pencil liner since it was a lot less harsh on my eyes in general. It's a bit easier to remove, but it doesn't smudge throughout the day typically. If you're looking for an easy to use liquid eyeliner (and you don't wear your eyeliner too thick), I'd recommend this brush liner!

This month I've got some more skincare to review, like the Soon Jung line that I reviewed last month! The Honey Cera line isn't actually that new to Etude House but I'm happy to give some thoughts on it anyway 😍

This trial kit includes mini versions of the toner, emulsion, cream and eye serum from the Honey Cera line.

The Honey Cera Toner has a watery consistency like most toners, but it's milky in colour. I don't really like reviewing toners because personally... I don't really notice that much in difference with them. Usually for me, it's either moisturising or it's not. This one did feel moisturising for me... but nothing really beyond that.

The Honey Cera Emulsion is actually a really nice consistency. It's hard to describe in text but it wasn't too heavy and the scent wasn't too overpowering like the Skinfood Peach Sake Emulsion I've tried before. It sinks in quite easily and makes my skin feel super smooth and soft.

I'm not sure if I'm going to add a emulsion into my routine but if I did, I would want something similar to this. I haven't really used it long enough to give a definitive rating but I'll give it a 4 / 5 because it's been working well for me so far.

The Cream is quite thick and feels quite occlusive on the skin. I like using these kinds of heavy creams as a sleeping pack to help lock in the other products from the night routine. I've also been using this on my dry patches like around my nose to help keep those parts moisturised. Overall, I'd give it 3.5 / 5 since it does work as a cream, it's a good moisturiser but I didn't notice anything too amazing.

I reallyyyy love the texture of the Priming Eye Serum. It's very light but makes everything I spread it on so nice and silky. It's an eye serum but I end up putting it around my nose and chin too. I actually don't need any kinds of eye creams right now, I just use a normal cream, and I'm a little hesitant to buy this because the full size is quite pricey. However, it works well, so I’ll give it 5 / 5 💓

Not every fictional TV apartment is created equally, according to interior designers.

Interior designers liked some of the apartments seen on "Friends" and "The Mindy Project."

But apartments from series like "Gossip Girl," "Sex and the City," and "How I Met Your Mother" weren't as popular.

Television is filled with some truly eye-catching abodes, but not all on-screen apartments are created equally when it comes to style.

Insider had a group of interior designers critique some of the most famous living areas on TV.

Here's how the pros reacted to the apartments, plus what they loved or hated about each.

Experts thought Monica and Rachel's apartment from "Friends" had plenty of personality, but needed a few updates.

Few television spaces are as iconic as the New York City apartment where Monica and Rachel lived during the early seasons of "Friends."

Katie Stix, design director of Tennessee-based Anderson Design Studios, told Insider that she appreciated the vibrant walls and eclectic styling of the classic sitcom abode.

"The purple walls are bold but iconic. The mismatched furniture properly relays the women's young, single, New York lifestyle in the '90s," said Stix. "Though I cringe every time I see the table lamp; it's too old looking for them. Maybe Monica's aunt left it behind."

Another interior designer praised the apartment's floor plan but thought some of the styling details needed a second look.

"This apartment layout works because it leaves a circulation path from the bedroom," Lonni Paul, an interior designer based in Los Angeles, told Insider. "However, the unruly plant on the TV cabinet looks like it needs some help."

Paul also said she didn't like the red and yellow pillows on the small chair off to the side since they "stand out and feel out of place."

Designers thought the layout of Frasier Crane’s apartment from "Frasier" was confusing.

The swanky Seattle apartment of television's most famous radio psychologist may have been Frasier Crane's pride and joy, but NYC-based interior designer and former TV writer Alec Holland told Insider that the apartment's floor plan and styling could use an update.

"Why would anyone have their furniture facing away from that fireplace? I'd turn everything around, and open the living space up," said Holland.

He also suggested giving the coffee table a face-lift.

"If you replaced that horrible coffee table with something more modern and square, stacked some picture books on it, and added a few [art objects], it would up the elegant vibe," Holland told Insider.

Stix took issue with the bland color palette of the apartment and also vetoed Frasier's eye-catching coffee table.

"A little color would be welcome in this room, it is just so vanilla and beige. I wish they placed the Eames lounge chair in a more prominent place and got rid of the heinous coffee table," she said.

Ted Mosby's apartment from "How I Met Your Mother" was not a hit with designers.

Although Ted Mosby may be employed as an architect, some of his design choices left interior designers scratching their heads.

"Yikes! I don't even know where to begin on this one. The clutter is out of control and every inch of space is filled with something. The red everywhere is overwhelming," said Paul.

The layout of the apartment also seemed counterintuitive to Holland, who suggested rearranging the furniture and adding curtains to make the space more functional.

"This is another example of a TV apartment where the fireplace isn't the focal point. I'd flip this room around pronto. If the office has to stay, I'd hang a good drape that can close it off so you don't have to look at it," he said.

However, interior designer Kobi Karp of Miami's Kobi Karp Architecture and Interior Design appreciated some aspects of Ted's abode.

"I do see a drafting table in the back of the room near the window, which is exactly where I would place it if it were my apartment," said Karp.

The designer also said Ted's apartment could benefit from some hidden-storage solutions to help him creatively hide all of his clutter.

The loft from "New Girl" inspired mixed reactions from designers.

The apartment from "New Girl" is a huge space with a distinctly masculine vibe — but it's not perfect.

For starters, Paul told Insider that the furnishings of this apartment might be out of sync with its massive proportions.

"Everything here feels out of scale. The sofa is too small as well as the coffee table. The chair and ottoman feel too big by contrast. The side table to the left of the sofa is too high. I wish the sofa was a lighter color to brighten up the place. The apartment is too dark," she said.

However, Stix raved about the roomy loft and its "fresh" vibe.

"I really love everything here. The space itself is amazing and I love the sectional. The 'found' collected items are hip and fresh," she told Insider.

Although the designer did like the combination of the sofa and a bookshelf, she conceded that the apartment could benefit from brighter light fixtures or additional floor lamps.

Stylists found Mindy's apartment from "The Mindy Project" to be totally trendy, especially her home office.

Mindy's combination brownstone apartment and medical practice seems like a stylish marriage of elegance and maximalism — and designers love it.

"This space is on-point and on-trend for current design styles. I like the decorative molding and the two-tone wall colors in her office," Joe Human, NYC-based interior designer of Designs By Human, told Insider.

That said, even though the Lucite desk is cool and works well with the room, it's not exactly practical, Human pointed out.

Paul also gave Mindy's office a big thumbs up, praising the color choices and soft character of the furnishings.

"This is a super chic office and the transparent desk makes the room appear larger than it is. The light colors mixed with the pastels also give the room a feminine vibe," said Paul.

Carrie Bradshaw's apartment from "Sex and the City" earned mixed praise from stylists, who especially had issues with her bedroom.

Fans of "Sex and the City" know Carrie Bradshaw for her fashion obsession and cavernous closet, but her apartment, in particular, her bedroom, provoked mixed reviews from interior designers.

"The asymmetry of the room denotes that the owner has an artistic mind," said Karp. "I like the placement of the bed, allowing the morning sun to act as a natural alarm clock for the person sleeping."

Karp also pointed out the magazine problem in Carrie's bedroom, saying perhaps she could benefit from another bookshelf so she could cut back on the tabletop clutter.

Holland, however, wasn't in love with the casual vibe of Carrie's bedroom, calling it "lackluster."

"I'd get a good shag rug, put a headboard on that bed, and maybe wallpaper behind it to create a more interesting focal wall. I'd also lose the off-center bookcase above the bed — a disaster waiting to happen — and paint that radiator a glossy black," he said.

Jerry's apartment from "Seinfeld" is surprisingly modern but also a little boring.

Even though "Seinfeld" debuted in 1989, designers say Jerry Seinfeld's apartment has actually aged pretty well.

"I've always liked this apartment. It's orderly with everything having a place to go. The sofa color pops making the room brighter and the modern style gives the room a point of view," said Paul.

Of course, there's always room for improvement. Stix told Insider that she would have liked to see more personality in the apartment's styling.

"My first thought is that this apartment desperately needs art. I love the couch color but it drives me nuts when the accent pillows match the couch," said Stix.

Although Stix approved of the sofa color, she disliked the apartment's muted color palette.

"The wall color is drab and looks too much like a TV set. it would have been better if the paneling and trim was a deep olive green," she said.

The Humphrey loft from "Gossip Girl" needs a total makeover, according to designers.

On "Gossip Girl," the Humphrey family's Brooklyn loft is meant to be a cool and quirky living space, but designers didn't appreciate its awkward layout and confusing combination of furnishings.

"This is such a weird space. The window and rattan-type shades are awesome, but everything else should be a start over," said Human.

Stix also found the apartment to be a little unappealing, and noted that it didn't feel like a real family's home.

"This set seems too 'decorator' and staged. I don't care for the tile floors; a stained concrete or distressed hardwood would be more appropriate," she said. "The entry area takes over the entire space and the sitting area is squished in the corner."

She suggested that adding ceiling beams would help accentuate the "warehouse" vibe that the designers may have been going for.

Sheldon and Leonard's apartment from "The Big Bang Theory" was a total flop with interior designers.

Although Sheldon and Leonard may be bonafide brainiacs, designers told Insider that the design of the physicists' apartment is anything but genius.

"This is an eclectic bachelor pad that is begging for a makeover," said Paul. "The leather sofa looks really lumpy and uncomfortable, and the wooden chair next to the lounge chair looks out of place. There's also too much clutter."

Karp was also not a huge fan of the apartment's styling, especially its eclectic mix of furniture.

"This looks like a very simple apartment that is very organized. However, the mismatched collection of furniture and décor makes the apartment look a bit like a thrift shop," he told Insider.

The designer added that the apartment could use matching pillows, and that the items displayed on the shelves could use better integration into the space as a whole.

Don Draper's apartment from "Mad Men" is the epitome of mid-century style.

It doesn't get more mid-century modern than Don Draper's Manhattan apartment on "Mad Men."

Paul told Insider that the advertising guru's home is a great visual representation of the character's personality.

"This retro-style apartment is masculine and perfect for a type-A personality. It's organized and nothing feels out of place," said Paul.

That said, Paul has some suggestions, pointing out that the apartment would look much better with a patterned rug.

Holland was also taken with the sleek styling of Draper's urban abode.

"There's not much wrong here. I could see a more festive fabric on the sofa, but those stools are perfection. The hanging light and wood features are also all a big 'yes' for me," he said.

20 Uber Cool Ways To Style Your Micro Braids

Delicate. Intricate. Feminine. These are the words that jump to my mind when I look at micro braids. Similar to box braids, micro braids are tiny individual sections of hair that are braided right till the end, usually with hair extensions added to them. The only difference between box braids and micro braids is in their size. While box braids are quite thick, micro braids (as apparent by their name) are super thin. They almost create the illusion of natural hair when seen from a distance. But take a closer look and you’ll realize that they are actually super thin individual braids. So not only do they look gorgeous, but they also make for a great protective style!

Before we get into how you can micro braid your hair at home, it’s imperative for you to know that these can damage your hair quite a bit as they are tightly done braids on very small sections of hair. Hence, you need to have your hair in perfectly healthy condition before you start. So it would be a good idea to deep condition your hair 2 to 3 times in the weeks leading up to doing your micro braids.

How To Micro Braid

Start off by parting away a horizontal section of hair that is about 1/4th inch in width at the nape of your neck with the help of the tail end of your rat tail comb.

Pin up the rest of your hair above this section with the help of a sectioning clip.

From one corner of this horizontal section, pick up a small 1/8th inch section of hair and wet its roots with your fingers.

a). If you are micro braiding your natural hair: Simply divide this section of hair into 3 strands, braid it tightly right till the end, and secure the ends snugly with a small hair elastic that matches the color of your hair.

b). If you are adding extensions:

– Add a little bit of hair gel at the roots of your section of natural hair.

– Separate a 1/4th inch section of hair from your packet of extensions and wrap it around your section of natural hair, right at the roots.

– Now with the hair extension acting as the 2 side strands and the section of natural hair acting as the center strand, start braiding.

– With each stitch of braid, keep adding hair from the natural hair strand into either strand of the hair extensions so that each section maintains equal thickness throughout the braid and so that the extension is securely braided in place.

– Once you have reached the end of your micro braid, secure it with a slip knot. To do so, combine the tail ends of all 3 strands and wrap them around your index finger to form a loop. Remove the loop from your finger and carefully insert the tail of your braid into it and pull it tight to knot it in place. You can do this a couple of times to secure the ends completely.

– Once you are done braiding all the hair in one horizontal section, section another horizontal section and repeat all the steps until all your hair has been micro braided.
