C11 - Honest Feelings
Tumblr media
Song : Tell Me by Sabrina Claudio
Navaya
It was the beginning of a new week at school and I still had yet to tell Julius of the cure I had for him.
How could I just say; “Here Julius this is a cure made by a hundred year old witch and vampire and it will make your aids go away.”
All morning had been dreary for me, and I didn’t even know if I would make it to lunch. As usual Julius left off campus to go eat his special food by himself. It was a perfect time for me to go with him as he kissed my lips by and out the school doors, but I let him walk away. Watching him leave I felt a presence standing by me that I looked over, to see no one other than Dev trying to see what I was looking at out the doors.
“What the hell you looking at?” He asked still looking outside. A blue folder was in his slim tattooed hands rolled up as he looked down at me and back outside.
“Nothing.” I sighed beginning to walk away from the doors, Dev followed, which was odd. Him casually starting to talk to me now was new, even for me. I already had enough female eyes watching me when I was with Julius. With Dev it seemed like more and I was the Kylie Jenner of the academy. Not in a million years would have thought coming back to school would be like this for me.
“Alright…anyways we need to talk.” He spoke walking beside me down the hall of busy students to the cafeteria. I stopped walking making him halt his long legs.
“About?” I asked looking up into his flawless freckled face, that had its dark look as usual for a vampire.
“Your friend Mali.” He flat out answered with a raised eyebrow at me. Here we go.
“What about her Dev.” I crossed my arms over her chest.
“You need to talk her out of these random feelings she suddenly has for me, cuz I ain’t with it.” He placed his hands behind him with an authoritative look.
“Let me get this straight you want me to let her down instead of you doing it?” I lowly asked him with wide eyes.
“As easy as you possibly can, cuz you her friend n shit.” He shrugged his broad shoulders, “Besides I rather the arguments between us than this.”
“Dev, that’s not fair putting me in between something like that, y'all need to talk.” I simply stated moving my feet again Dev followed.
“Look, the better she realize she need to get back with Jason the better off she’ll be, I don’t fuckin’ do relationships.” He admitted to me as we continued waking down the hall, “Or drama for that matter.”
“I figured you didn’t.” I muttered more to myself, but I wasn’t trying to put nothing on it. Dev stopped walking this time looking down at me with his big brown eyes.
“The fuck is that suppose to mean?” He mumbled squinting. His cologne he had on fluttered my senses, I took a step back from him.
“Nothing. So now you going to owe me for another favor now if I do, do this.” I sighed, Dev chuckled at me.
“What?” I was so confused with his mood swings.
“You said do do.” He smiled brightly continuing to walk, I mugged the back of his head.
“Are you really over a hundred or naw?” I gritted at him. Sighing deeply Dev looked back at me halting his laugh.
“You going to talk to yo’ friend for me or naw?” He asked back, “And yeah I’ll owe you just like before.”
“Great.” I glumly retorted as we got closer to the cafeteria.
“Speaking of which on favors, when are you going to tell ol’ boy about the cure for him?” He asked me, I froze on the subject I had been trying to not think about too much. I knew eventually Dev would want to know how things are going with it. But I had been stalling. Not knowing how to tell Julius the origin of how I even got the cure for him.
“I haven’t-”
“Dev, could you come here a sec!” A girl yelled over by some stairs to the second level of the building. Dev turned around, along with him we saw that senior girl he was all hugged up with at the pool party. She was standing with three other girls, looking straight out of mean girls or something.
“Hold that thought, I’ll be right back.” He sighed walking away towards the girls, I was grateful that I at least had a little more time before I confessed to Dev I hadn’t told Julius anything.
“So you think you can just come to our school, get all cozy with Julius and then become besties with Dev?” Someone asked behind me, it was just a regular girl, that looked like she belonged in that senior girls clique. Shocked by what she said I just stood there in awe by her hateful glare at me.
“Um can you leave me alone please.” I softly responded, she scoffed at me.
“Leave you alone, I ain’t done talking to you.” She replied with attitude at me.
“The fuck going on?” Dev asked walking back over with the girl clique behind him. They all stared wanting to know what was going on. Scattered students being nosy noticed too how the girl was acting towards me. The weird things is, I didn’t feel one bit of anxiety it was an odd feeling. All the shit I had been through in my short life along with a connection I still felt to Dev, this girl before me didn’t frighten me one bit, and I loved it.
“This rude ass girl-”
“Bitch who you calling a rude ass-”
“Julie. Shut up.” The senior girl, spoke up shutting the girl down. Dev shook his head walking past me right into the girls face, her space.
“Don’t you ever step to her in the way you fucking did, understand?” He lowly muttered into her face. Julie turned into a different girl in that moment, and conceded to Dev like she was his dog. A female one at that, I was surprised in the moment.
“Yes, Dev I apologize.” She replied looking up into his eyes.
“No don’t apologize to me, apologize to her.” He stepped aside pointing at me. Julie rose her sad looking eyes to me and did a weird smile.
“I’m-”
“Navaya.” Dev corrected her, to restart.
“Navaya, I’m sorry.” Julie looked me in my eyes sincerely.
“Navaya lets go.” Dev said, walking away from the tension and I followed him.
“Dev, am I going to see you later?” The senior girl called out.
“I’ll call you Tia.” He hollered over his shoulder as he kept walking towards the cafeteria.
“Are you fucking crazy, that’s one of his close friends Julie, you are dismissed from the group, see how it feels to be really with the regular people!” I heard the Tia girl say as we made it in the cafe.
Not feeling hungry I saw Trent sitting at a table with the twins. Mali was nowhere in sight and it bothered me. I sat down at the table, next to Trent. Dev sat across from me placing his folder in front of him. He dapped up everyone at the table, and then sat back down.
“Thank you, for what you did in the hall.” I smiled at him, he looked over my face with a little smile and nod looking away.
“I don’t play that shit.” He replied, “I got you.”
“Does that count as my favor?” I smiled with a laugh making him crack a smile.
“Technically no, stupid.” He shook his head at me. It was like Dev and I were going back doing things for each other, and right now he was winning the tally.
“I know just kidding.” I sniffled feeling my phone vibrate in my pocket.
“Yeah whatever. So wassup niggas we playing ball later on today?” Dev asked the twins and Trent. I looked down at my phone to see a text from Mali.
Mali😍: I’m outside in the parking lot in my car, can you come? (Mon, 11:59PM)
“Imma go meet Mali outside guys, I’ll see y'all later.” I told everyone at the table standing up.
“Everything okay?” Trent asked me, Dev eyed me briefly asking the same with his look.
“Yeah, everything’s cool.” I nodded, and they went back to their discussions. Walking out the cafeteria I hoped Mali was really alright and wasn’t trying to avoid us from what happened over the weekend. Or more so Dev.

Walking up to her black audi, I saw her with the windows down smoking something. It wasn’t a cigarette and I got into the passenger side. Closing the door I looked over at her in surprise while she put out the roach in between her finger.
“The school parking lot Mali? Really?” I asked wearily at her.
“One time thing, I just needed it. I saw Dev inside school earlier and he didn’t even look my way. But I know he saw me.” She admitted on why she was hiding out in her car.
“Remember when you used to hide from him, and you told me that he doesn’t run your life?” I tried to rebuild her confidence in herself anyway I could.
“Yes.” She meekly replied, “How is this the same Vay?”
“Because, Dev knows just like I know that it isn’t right to do Jason like this. Especially when he really likes you, that’s his family Mali.” I told her trying to knock some sense into her head.
“You shouldn’t be hiding from anyone, but working things out with Jason.”
“Did Dev put you up to this?” She asked.
“No, I’m putting myself up to this because I care about you and I know Jason does too, just give him another chance.” I pleaded. Mali remained silent I looked at my phone to see we had only ten minutes to get back to our next class, lunch was over.
“I’ll meet you by the steps after school okay?” I looked over at her and her stare out her window.
“Yeah sure.” She muttered lowly. With that I exited her car walking back to school, ready for the day to be over with. My last class, dragged a lot I almost fell asleep through it. The bell rang finally as I collected everything in my book bag headed out the doors to meet Mali. There was a huge crowd on the steps I wondered what was going on. Stepping through the crowd to get to the curb, and then before my eyes was a cherry red exotic looking car. A very huge pink bow sat on the roof of the vehicle, and I saw now why everyone was staring and crowding the area. Jason stood, leaning against the car with a big bushel of roses to match the car looking clean as ever.
“Audi R8, Whoa, that shit brand new!” Someone yelled. Girls left and right ogling Jason were smiling probably wondering like I was who he was here for.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me!” Mali screeched from behind me and stand next to me.
“Mal, give him another chance please.” I pushed her on the arm, she sucked her teeth at me looking over at Jason who was indeed staring her down.
“Mali, just go I'll get a ride with someone else and we’ll have Trent drive your car.” I told her with a nod.
“Sure, will,” Trent appeared smiling suddenly standing next to me, "Keys please madam.“ He held out his hand for her to give over her car keys. Doing a huff she went in her bag giving them to Trent.
"Go.” I pushed her again down the steps, and she went about to grab the roses from Jason for everyone to see. But he handed her something telling her to go around the other side. Doing as she was told they both got in the car and drove off.
“Ay, Layla I got the keys let’s roll!” Trent yelled to some girl talking to her friends. She smiled following behind Trent. I felt a hug behind me and turned around to see Julius with a smile.
“Hey what was all the commotion about?” He asked looking around while everyone started departing.
“Um, just another romantic gesture of the world for everyone to see.” I replied with a lil chuckle shaking my head.
“Oh.” He nodded looking me over, “How you getting home?”
“Um, do you think you could give me a ride I kind of don’t have one.” I chuckled nervously playing with the left strap of my book bag.
“Shit Vay, I wish I could I have a doctor appointment to go to and-”
“I’ll go with you if that’s okay.” I told him nodding my head, but he shook his.
“I don’t need you sitting in the waiting area for so long.” He grimaced at me, not sure what to do.
“Girl, you play too damn much.” Dev laughed talking on his phone as he walked out the building. Julius and I eyed him for a second he looked over at us.
“The hell y'all staring at like someone died?” He asked briefly scrunching his eyebrows.
“Dev chill, Navaya just needs a ride home.” Julius told him and he nodded.
“I got her dawg, go head do yo thing.” Dev nodded again dapping him up.
“Alright cool, I’ll see you tomorrow babe.” Julius kissed my cheek before departing.
“See you.” I waved as he walked off.
“Y'all, make me wanna throw up.” Dev muttered placing his phone in his pocket. The sun began to hide behind the clouds making the breeze of the day a little more chilly.
“Oh, shut up where’s your car?” I asked him, and he started walking away without a response to the parking lot.
“Dev.” I yelled walking after him, until he stopped at a silver motorcycle taking a helmet out of the small compartment on the bike. With an uneasy face he looked up at me. Getting the question out of my mind why he would even need a helmet, I figured it was just to fit in.
“Oh, no.” I silently died.
“I took my bike today.” He shrugged at me.
“Dev, I’ve never ridden on one of these before.” I told him walking closer to the bike.
“Didn’t I tell you I got you,” He spoke calmly with a wink raising his hand for me to come closer, “Come here.”
Walking closer he stood behind me with his strong hands raising my body by my hips with ease onto the bike, I leaned back into him feeling his hard muscular chest.
“You good?” He asked in my ear still holding on to me, my cheeks were burning out of nowhere.
“Yeah.” I breathed watching him as he let go of me to put the helmet on my head.
“Alright, I promised your lover boy I’d get ya home in one piece.” Dev smiled fastening the helmet that matched his bike. After it was secured on my head he swung his leg over the bike sitting in front of me. Turning the ignition he looked back at me.
“Gotta hold on to me, like this.” He yelled over the purr of the bike taking my hands he wrapped my arms around him snugly. The action made us even closer that I was now leaning all my weight on him and he felt good. Safe. Laying my head on his back I closed my eyes waiting for this ride to be over as we started out the parking lot to the freeway. Every now and then I would open my eyes as we drifted as one to the mansion as we were on the road. My heartbeat would quicken, Dev didn’t say anything but I knew he could feel it.

Getting off the bike with Dev’s help I looked at the machine that just helped us get home.
“It wasn’t so bad right?” He asked getting off the bike after he turned it off.
“No.” I crossed my arms over my chest looking up at him. He nodded once.
“I guess we can talk now about why you haven’t talked to Julius.” He switched up the conversation so fast I wasn’t ready for it.
“I haven’t had the right time to.” I told him beginning to walk away, he followed.
“Well what’s the hold up?” Dev asked walking beside me so I could stop walking away. His presence on me was so overwhelming sometimes, it was weird.
“I don’t want him to think I’m crazy or trying to make him a fool.” I honestly admitted to Dev. He looked me over and looked away.
“He won’t think you’re crazy or trying to play him.” He sighed, “Remember we went over this.”
“That’s the thing, telling him that Jason’s doctors helped him with a sudden cure that’s not FDA tested yet doesn’t really sound believable Dev.” I explained.
“You had a hard time believing in vampires, until someone you trusted proved you wrong.” Dev pointed out.
“But, it wasn’t easy.”
“Until you have proof, Jason is your proof.”
“I know but…” I trailed off.
“I don’t understand you, doing all this nagging about wanting to save his life and now that you can, you’re being hesitant.” Dev scoffed at me squinting his eyes.
“I’m still trying to cope with this new world I’m in now Dev, bringing someone else into it I know there will be no going back once I do.” I breathed rubbing the side of my face.
“You do know there is a time limit, Daniel is just as anxious about this as you are.” He reminded me.
“Yeah I know.” I looked away shaking my head.
“Do you want to save him, or not? What you thought saving him of a disease that’s fatal to a human would be all rainbows and sunshine?” Dev muttered walking closer to me. His anger at the subject was apparent. He was putting his neck on the line for me, I couldn’t forget that.
“I don’t want to lie to him Dev.”
“Eventually you won’t since he will become a vampire, just for now you have to down grade your doctors a bit alright?” He shrugged at me, referring to him and Daniel.
“Fine. I’ll talk to him tomorrow about it.” I huffed, “Thanks for the ride.”
“Anytime.” Dev smiled at me, then started walking back to his bike.
“Hey, Jason seems to be trying win Mali back so I think you’re in the clear.” I told him making him turn back around.
“That’s good, she would be better off with him anyways.” He shrugged.
“Why is that, you seem to be an alright person Dev.” I crossed my arms over my chest. Doing a little nod he grimaced at me. If I didn’t know him so well I would have been freaked out.
“Like I said Navaya, don’t do relationships.” He muttered, “Seriously why you worried about me? Don’t understand you.”
“You don’t have to understand me.” I called out to him. He turned around while putting the helmet on his head. Raising his hand he gave me a thumbs up before driving off on his bike.

Mali
Sitting beside Jason on a bench, I looked at the little river that wasn’t far from town. It all was nothing but overwhelming for me to be honest. From the car to the public display that he wanted me as his girl for all my peers to see. Yet now as we sat beside each other he said nothing, like there was nothing left to say.
“Mali, I know you have been through a lot in these past months. From knowing about the existence of a supernatural world to not talking to your parents in weeks. I know they miss you, but I miss you too. I want to do this right with you.” He finally spoke looking over at me.
“Telling me you can’t be in a relationship then doing this, it’s giving me whiplash Jason.” I said plainly looking out on the water.
“I’m serious this time though, and I’ll do anything you want to prove that.” He turned to me making me look at him.
“Without using your money.” I raised an eyebrow at him, he cracked a smile.
“Yeah, sure.” He chuckled.
“I need to go see my parents.” I looked down at my lap taking a deep breath. Ever since the whole craziness with my parents having Navaya’s uncle find her to him dying because of how he abused her. I felt in the end like they were the one who took Navaya’s uncle life. Had they not meddled in business without knowing the truth, that man would be alive. Even though he was a demon, he didn’t deserve to die how he did. That whole moment will haunt me forever, I tried to use alcohol and every passing day to forget but I don’t.
“I’m here for you.” Jason knocked me out my thoughts, he took my hand in his.
I smiled at him sincerely clenching his hand in mine, “Thanks Jase.”
Leaning closer to me he pecked my lips softly, and eventually the kiss deepened more passionately. Clenching my curls he bit my bottom lips gently kissing my cheek next.
“I need you.” He breathed kissing my nose trailing his lips back down to my lips. His cologne tinkled my nose while my stomach did flips in anticipation. It had been awhile since I’ve last had him and I felt myself giving in.
“Okay.” I replied kissing his lips once more.

Trent
“This is crazy!” I yelled from atop the ferris wheel in the year long downtown carnival of Chicago. From below Anastasia giggled at me, and our three am adventures with no one else around. Somehow she had made it possible for it to be lit and here we were sitting looking at the skyline of the city.
“I told you, you would have fun.” She smiled at me with a gleam of sparkle in her brown eyes.
“Yeah, you did.” I chuckled looking back to the view before us. My phone in my pocket began to vibrate with Dev’s name going across the screen.
“Your babysitter calling you?” Ana asked me not looking my way.
“Yep.” I sighed, denying Dev’s call, “How you know?”
“He used to do the same shit to me back home.” She told me with attitude lacing her tone.
Ana sucked her teeth swiftly then, “Gotta be fuckin’ kidding me.” Taking a phone out her jacket she placed it to her ear. A glum and bored expression on her face became her expression. For a good two minutes she was silent just listening to the other end.
“Alright.” She mumbled and hung up the phone rolling her eyes, “We have to get you back home.”
“That was Dev?” I asked her.
“Yep.” She unenthusiastically replied with humor. Then without another word jumped from her seat surprising the shit out of me.
“Holy shit.” I spazzed looking down at her land on her feet.
“Your turn Tre, come on don’t want mama Dev to get his panties all in a bunch.” Ana yelled up at me from below. Taking a deep breath I shook my head and let go jumping down. My feet just landed like I did a small hop in the air. Anastasia was already walking away once I got over my two second shock of jumping from so far up. Running with her eventually we made it back to my condo where Anastasia said Dev was. Already prepared for my immortality Dev had made sure I had my own place to get used to being a vampire. So for the meantime I had my own place not too far from where Jason lived. Opening the front door it was dark as I switched on a light, and instantly Dev came in sight with his arms crossed over his chest.
“Anastasia, when you go out with him you tell me understand?” Dev told her that she sucked her teeth at him.
“Damn, he’s not a little kid Dev.” She chuckled only to have Dev whoosh closer into her face.
“He’s barely three months, and has a lot to learn. I’m gonna take a guess that you had him feed on a human!” Dev roared at her. It was true we had but didn’t kill anyone, Anastasia wasn’t accustomed to using blood bags from Jason’s company. She told me Dev tried to reign her in on it but ended up being a failure.
“He needs to live a little bit Dev, shit, he is the next sacrificial of the family line!” She yelled back at him.
“We may have found an answer for that since I’m living proof.” Dev replied back.
“Wait what?” I breathed, “Dev you didn’t tell me that I would be…”
“Wow, and didn’t even tell him.” Anastasia scoffed accusingly at Dev. He looked over at me softening his face.
“Tre, I was going to tell you but, when I’m living proof that we have a way for you to come back…”
“Oh yeah, that human girl has put a different aura on you.” Anastasia chuckled, “It’s interesting a single mortal can make you so hopeful Dev, what’s her name again..Navaya?”
“You stay away from her.” Dev warned in a almost growling tone.
“Ah, and you’re protective of her too..see you acted like this years ago right before you decided to proclaim your love for Carmen.”
“I told you to never say that name to me Ana. I meant it.” Dev seethed at her calmly, his eyes turning a golden color. All the while I was in shock that I would be the next sacrificial heir, no wonder I was so important. Importance to die soon.
“Well, Dev I can’t believe you have to put so much acid on my name.” A voice called, and soon a dark figure appeared before us. A beautiful young woman came into view before us, wearing all black.
“You used to love me.” She smiled at Dev, he started clenching his jaw at her.
“Ana, what is she doing here?” Dev asked.
“Oh, come on me and Anastasia have been friends for quite some time since you left to come train this new vampire.” The woman smiled sweetly taking a seat at the island of my kitchen. Micah and Allister walked in then looking straight at Dev.
“Yo, Carmen is here.” They said in unison not realizing she was in the kitchen looking around at my place.
“Thanks for the fuckin’ memo.” Dev gritted at them looking over at Carmen.
