I love Kensei and your headcannons give me life and I can’t get enough of them❤️❤️❤️ I’ve always wondered about Kensei as a father, like how would he react to news of becoming a dad? How would he treat his pregnant girlfriend/wife? And also his parenting style?

Anon, you give me life with this ask! Seriously, I’ve been dying for this. Sorry if this gets long, but I’ve warned y’all I’m weak for this shit.

*Kensei is a pretty low-key guy. He doesn’t make a big deal about things and he definitely doesn’t want you to make a fuss about him. That man likes to keep the total number of witnesses to his celebrations one – you. That’s it.

*He would prefer to find out he was going to be a dad when its just the two of you, snuggled up, relaxing.

*Kensei doesn’t jump up and down or wildly celebrate when you tell him. Instead, he places his wide hand over your stomach, just below your belly button. He applies barely any pressure, already afraid that any little movement might hurt the tiny life, and shifts his gaze between you and his hand. But you know he’s excited.

*Especially when he can’t stop kissing you and smirking every two seconds.

*Anytime the two of you are cuddling on the couch from that point on, Kensei will almost always trail his hand or fingers gently over your bump (whether the bump is there yet or not).

*Though he’s known to be super health conscious, Kensei has better sense than to dictate what you should or shouldn’t eat to stay healthy (preggers or no).

*He shows he cares about your health (both of you) by reminding you to take your vitamins, and probably offering you more than one protein shake.

*Kensei will drag your cute lil preggo butt to the gym though (after he sneaks a quick squeeze). Whether you worked out with him side by side before, or he had to bribe you, expect to hit the gym with him a couple times a week.

*It’s not that bad. No high intensity exercises, or anything Unohana wouldn’t approve of. Whatever you want to do to get your heart rate up is good. Walk, weights, yoga, whatever it is, Kensei supports you by keeping you motivated or spotting you and the bump to make sure you know your limits.

*Yes, Kensei went to your first doctors appointment prepared with a few questions of his own. Topics like doctor approved exercises, foods that definitely aren’t pregnancy safe, and ‘should I really be letting her lift that small box, she said she could handle it but I think she’s just trying to act tough’ were discussed at length before he finally heard the heartbeat and everything else went out the window.

*There are no tears rolling down his cheeks, no sexy signature smirk on his lips; rather, there’s a glossy sheen over his caramel brown eyes, and he is smiling the widest, most genuine grin you have ever seen. (You would see that, but tbh, your eyes are a bit preoccupied by pouring gigantic happy tears.)

*Kensei is a bit overprotective, but it’s nothing out of the ordinary for him. People already either fear his a) muscles, or b) temper – they aren’t about to cross that kind of a man by messing with his s/o and tiny human. Not unless they have a death wish.

*The most annoying thing Kensei does under the guise of overprotective papa bear is ratting you out to your friends and family if the Doctor ever tells you something is off limits. Whether it’s food that you love but always makes you sick, or you just want to lift more weight than you technically should, Kensei will get your friends on his side. “Seriously, babe?! Unohana said no more chocolate if you want the heartburn to go away!”

*Nark.

*He tries to stay up on your cravings, meaning the man is prepared for all possible requests and keeps that pantry loaded with whatever mama wants. That being said, if he doesn’t have it and you want it at 3am, you’ll hear some serious audible groaning and grumbling, but it’ll be done as he drags his ass off to get what you asked for.

*You might expect Kensei’s parenting style to be a little stiff. He isn’t one to jump at the chance to hold your friend’s kids, just saying. But you’ll be surprised.

*Kensei learns pretty quickly that all that rigidity he has built up… well, your tiny human has something to say about that. It’s a learning curve, but he treats all things like the two of you are a team, and he has your back. The two (soon to be three of you) again the world.

*That tight schedule he used to like might come in handy from time to time if you ever need a reminder for feeding or nap time, and keeping up with your pumping schedule. He’s on top of it.

*Kensei is a fairly hands-on dad. He helps with diapers, helps with feedings, watches the baby if you just need a quick power nap or time to yourself. He doesn’t see it as a big deal at all, and if he ever meets other dudes who hassle him about being so involved, he doesn’t get it. Kensei thinks he’s doing the average, what any partner in a family team would do.

*He absolutely tries to use his drill Sargent voice on his kids, they giggle incessantly about it. Kensei only sighs in defeat when it happens and picks them up to carry them off to wherever he tried ordering them to go.

*Squad Nine treats the mini-Muguruma’s with some serious reverence. They’re mystified by the tiny human’s nerve, because you better believe Captain Muguruma is still scary as shit as far as they’re (and anyone else, for that matter) concerned.

*Kensei lets his kids run around the squad trying to hassle unwitting newbies. Or Shuhei. Ok, it’s just Shuhei.

*Overall, Kensei would see to it that his kids probably grow up with pretty good discipline. But, they also regularly run loose with fellow hellions, Yachiru… and probably Ichika. Plus anyone else Yachiru drafted into their adorable and deadly little pink gang.
