Basics

Writing details

preferred genres/tropes/aus: action/adventure, slice of life, hurt/comfort. I’m a sucker for fandom AUs that take my muses into a new world, too. disaster AUs are the best.

disliked genres/tropes/aus: I don’t have anything I strongly dislike outside of things in my rules, for obvious reasons. I do get bored with romance plots if there’s not something actually happening - which is hilarious considering up until a few years ago, I was too scared to venture outside of fluff as a whole.

preferred writing styles: plotted para/multi para. I can do shorter - but I may lose interest rapidly if it’s not plotted out. I can also do longer, but I reserve novellas for the partners I talk to the most, otherwise I can’t sustain that kind of writing.

personal icon preferences (do you use them? do you prefer certain sizes? ect.): I use a multitude of icon sizes & styles, largely because @houseofsol loves me & makes most of them for me. I think 150x75 is the standard size of her icons, whereas ones I make myself are roughly 100x80 (the speech bubbles). some muses (such as Jem) I don’t use icons for due to not having an appropriate FC.

partners icon preferences (do you prefer your partners to have certain icon styles or not care?): I like to say I solidly do not have a preference, & it’s mostly true - I don’t really like the over processed look, or extreme sizing, but I’m an exceptionally visual writer so being able to clearly see an FC helps me. it’s a weird quirk, but it’s not a dealbreaker. at the end of the day, I want to see your writing, & I’ll appreciate your aesthetic either way.

what fandoms do you consider yourself a part of, even outside of this blog?: tsc/the shadowhunter chronicles is basically my home fandom these days, with MCU being a close second. I’m tangentially in the DC fandom because of Kate, The Old Guard, & I keep my eye on the 007/James Bond fandom. outside of that, I’m not super active in other fandoms outside of my verses. in terms of verses though, you can add in star wars, pacific rim, terra nova, final fnatasy, & a few others.

what fandoms are you entirely uninterested in?: stranger things, TUA, TVD, largely because of a lack of familiarity with source at this time.

Misc

favourite foods: currently I’m on a vegan kick just because I wanted to kick a few bad habits I’ve noticed cropping up in my cooking, but for favorites, you cannot beat pizza.

favourite drinks: tea! also cold brew.

hobbies: outside of writing, gaming, cooking.

list ten things you want to do in the future: be happy. rescue certification for diving, graduate my PhD program, pay off student loans, renew my passport, start dating again, visit @cxpt again, fix my teeth, take more cooking classes, finally 100% housebreak my dog.

what do you wish would change in the rp community?: I wish it were actually more of a community instead of feeling like closed clusters that have become increasingly isolated over the years I’ve been on this blue hellsite.

WHAT EXPECTATIONS DO YOU HOLD TOWARDS YOUR PLOTTING PARTNER: i guess just be able to put up with my rambling and stopping and starting, a lot of characterisation choices i do go through various stages and its pretty messy so when i communicate that with others it usually ends up equally messy. just be patient with me please.

WHEN YOU NOTICE THE PLOTTING IS RATHER ONE-SIDED, WHAT DO YOU DO?: i don’t mind! sometimes ppl have more ideas that they want to share first and i’m always super happy to listen to those ideas !! sometimes its nice to have someone with a clear guide or structure and be able to work around that rather than trying to fumble through a plot together.

HOW DO YOU USUALLY PLOT WITH OTHERS, DO YOU GIVE INPUT OR LEAVE MOST WORK TOWARDS YOUR PARTNER?: i try to map out some basic info abt their characters that i otherwise don’t know from their bio or verses and try to pick out points of confrontation or similarities to expand on with giselle that can be used as points for like a starter to happen. its either that or sometimes i have really stupid ideas i just toss out there like ‘LMAO THEYRE BREAKING SHIT AT DISNEYLAND’ and go buck wild from there if the other person is down. i also always try to warn people or get a gauge for what subjects to avoid and steer clear of considering that giselle is a bit of a Freak(tm) and will say and do bad things.

WHEN A PARTNER DROPS THE THREAD, DO YOU WISH TO KNOW?: YES / NO / DEPENDS. - And why?: if there’s something giselle did or said that upset you, i would love to know not to repeat it again (since i do still feel pretty new to the rp game, theres still plenty of time for me to make stupid mistakes). if its just a general lack of interest or uncertainty of where the plot should go, then you dont have to tell me i wont take it personally i promise !

WISHLIST, BE IT PLOTS OR SCENARIOS: OH SO MANY! ive managed to fulfil a lot of my wishlist threads with like, giselle talking to characters she’s already zombified and i love all that angst but i want to do more stupid shit. i want to make it my personal goal to bully every quincy man and woman on sight. although a REAL dream would be if i got to write a thread zombifying a character who managed to escape giselle’s clutches. and more fighting! i want to get better at describing action and fights and i love to write giselle getting beat up and beating people up! more more more!!

THEMES I WON’T EVER RP / EXPLORE: hohoho theres a LOT... uh r*pe/dubcon threads for one, even if yeah i know writing it doesnt condone it, it makes me intensely uncomfortable to put my muse in that scenario, i feel like i have an obligation to like, protect her from that shit you know? racism is one i don’t want to transgress, even though i’m a poc, its not really cathartic or groundbreaking to write abt racism in threads its just... really fucking upsetting. also i know the quincy’s have this very close parallel to the whole n*zi imagery and ideology thing going on and i am not about to start even daring to thread that into my writing or bring those allusions and references of real life tragedies into giselle’s threads. i’ve already talked at length abt exploring giselles trans identity in rp and why im not comfortable doing so, so.... yeah! all those i guess.

WHAT TYPE OF STARTERS DO YOU PREFER / DISLIKE, CAN’T WORK WITH?: i like starters where giselle can just immediately get right into being a piece of shit. mise en scene and all that! cut out the build up and just get to the intense horror !! i don’t like starters where its not immediately clear where the characters are standing and what they’re doing and what’s happening around them. those really disorientate me and leave me kinda floundering because i always need some allusion or mention of a setting to ground giselle in a time and place other wise i cant tell what her response should be

WHAT TYPE OF CHARACTERS CATCH YOUR INTEREST THE LEAST?: angry old men GSADJDKSJA i could never rp yhwach for example or yamamoto because idk. theyre just so crummy and boring to me. i also couldnt rp characters who always have an upper hand in battle like aizen. i like my dumbasses and i like them stupid and adaptive not just, ‘yes i know this because i Know this.’

WHAT ARE YOUR STRONG ASPECTS AS RP PARTNER?: i think im nice...? FKSJDKDJSA idk i hate trying to toot my own horn. sometimes i also think i make funny jokes and im pretty chill and laid back

WHAT ARE YOUR WEAK ASPECTS AS RP PARTNER?: my writing style is inconsistent and adapts to whatever i’m reading so sometimes it’ll be really good and i love it and other times it reads like really bad fanfic and i get carried away far too easily and write novella lengths for threads which should be much shorter. i also get shy a lot and dont think i communicate very effectively but HEYO we’re working on it!

HOW I RUN MY BLOG

SPEED: Ah yes, the wonders of being stuck at home with nowhere to go. Because of that, I’ve been able to maintain a consistent activity around here. Although, there are certain hours of the day where I’m more active around here.

REPLIES: I use a threads tracker! I tend to get to most of my replies rather quickly, but in order to not overwhelm myself or my partners. I toss everything into my queue. I try to randomize/mess with the queue’s order from time to time so that can help in dishing out my replies. I’m a multi-para writer, I like describing and adding stuff to the replies. I feel like it helps my partner as well!

STARTERS: I haven’t had much luck in the way of doing starters call myself, so I haven’t done a call for them in a long time. Either people didn’t respond to the starter, or due to lack of interest in general. Which I’m not shaming or blaming, I’m just stating what happened the last few times. As such, I’ve been preferring to just send a meme to someone and turn it, into a thread. It’s what I’ve had the most luck with. My starters tend to be quite long, because as mentioned above, I like setting the mood and give as much as possible for my partner to work with.

INBOX: I’m all about sending memes (when possible)! I feel like inbox memes, help breaking the ice between mutuals. I really appreciate them tons!

SELECTIVITY: See my rules to have a good idea about what I look for in blogs. As of lately, I’ve become increasingly selective about following people back. “I’ll only follow, if I see our muses interacting.” This has been a huge motto for me when following new folks, and it has improved my RPing experience A LOT. I’m always looking for folks who more or less fits with my style of writing and muse. Because there is nothing worse, than running into a roadblock with someone because the muses/developments don’t mesh well with each other. Not following sb back =/= Sb is a bad rper. I just don’t think it is fair to follow someone, just for the sake of following without any real intention of writing with that person. I’ve been through this in the past many times, and that’s amongst my biggest peeves when it comes to RPing. I’m simply catering to my own taste, because unfortunately I don’t have the time nor the energy to RP with everyone that stops by.

WISHLIST: I’ve been meaning to do an wishlist for my muses, I should... Definetely get to make one. I feel like it could also help new mutuals as well...

HONEST NOTE: Don’t be intimidated by my rules. I’m well aware that I’ve worded out my rules in a not so friendly manner, and it’s because that’s the way I’ve found to express myself best in english (if you missed out on this, I’m not a native english speaker). What drew you to rping this character?In all my gaming, whether tabletop RPs or PC RPGs, I’ve almost played a female archer/sniper type character. For whatever reason, I’m drawn to this woman who can throw a punch, survive in the woods, and take someone out with a headshot before they even know she’s there.

What’s something you like about how you write?I enjoy writing dialogue and that’s where I find I’m able to express my characters the best.

What’s something you dislike about how you write or wish you were better at?I need to work on narrative voice and descriptions of actions, places, etc. I’ve never had ‘flowery’ type writing and so these visual details sometimes escape me.

What’s something about your character that you’d like if you had to spend time with them?Meryll’s willingness to be open to new experiences and new people, and how she chooses love first, rather than judgement or suspicion.

What’s something about your character that you wouldn’t like if you had to spend time with them?Her impulsive nature would drive me nuts. And she does so many things are that aren’t safe lol

What’s a negative thing about your character that you enjoy writing?Meryll has the worst taste in men. She isn’t interested in anyone who is even remotely appropriate for her. This leads to so many odd pairings and comical events.

What;s a similarly you have with your character?probably the tall cutesy brunette part

What’s a difference you have with your character?Meryll is far quicker to open up to new people than I am. I tend to be more standoffish when I first meet someone but Meryll is all in right from hello.

What’s the hardest thing for you to write?as mentioned above – imagery in narrative.

Do you think you’ve gotten better at writing anything or any type of thing or situation since you started writing this character (or roleplaying in general)? I think I’ve gotten better at jumping into the minds of different characters. My two mains - Tywin and Meryll - are on the opposite side of the spectrum from each other, and I find switching between them to be easier all the time

Why do you roleplay?I’ve always enjoyed writing, making up stories, but it has been such a solitary activity. The idea of creating stories and worlds with other people is amazing. i love it.

Do you write fiction ever other than rping?I started writing a fantasy novel many many years ago but put it aside. A couple years ago, I discovered GoT fanfics and that got my writing bug going again.

Do you like fanfiction more or less than rp threads between characters?Depends – sometimes I want complete control over a scene and don’t feel like dealing with other people, so that is a great time to work on fanfics. When i get writers block in my fics, I find RP helps get things flowing again. RP demands a greater flexibility - always being ready to react to whatever your writing partner throws at you, different timelines, different genres, or characters you never even imagined your own character meeting. It is definitely great for creativity.For reading purposes, i would rather read a fanfic over someone else;s RP threads, just for continuity of style and flow.

Do you like or dislike OC/Canon character interactions in principle?i love it. as long as the characters are well written and the chemistry is there, i’m all for it.

What’s your favorite thing about rping a canon character?having so much lore available at my fingertips. The ASOIAF community is incredibly dorky and the lore resources out there are absolutely amazing. sometimes i spend more time researching a thread than i do writing it.

What’s something you dislike about rping a canon character?having to explain/rationalize some of GRRM’s weird decisions, and having to deal with other people’s ideas about a character

What’s your favorite thing about rping an original character?Not having to deal with other people’s predetermined notions of the character. When I write canon characters i worry that they come across too HC-heavy and that others will think I’m not IC enough. I never have that problem with Meryll :). Although there are, of course, predetermined notions of her House, but that’s fun to deal to with.

What’s something you dislike about rping an original character?the struggle of getting other people to write with me. i get it though, i have canon characters and sometimes i just can’t get my head around how they will interact with a certain OC.

How much time do you spend roleplaying on average a week?comes and goes in spurts. right now i’m spending a lot of time writing but that comes after a couple weeks of very spotty activity.

Do you think about your threads and your character when you aren’t roleplaying? How and for how long on average?yes .. i come up with weird ideas all the time. not sure how much time is spent doing this..

Do you like lots of headcanons or few?i love hearing other people’s headcanons about their own characters and mine as well. it helps to come up with ideas for threads. really, the more information, the better

What’s your take on AUs?i used to write a lot of modern AU but lately i’m into canon timeline. I’m game to try writing most things, but my focus depends on what is currently inspiring me

What’s a ship you really like rping?Meryll/heartbreak

What’s a ship you would never rp? For what reason? Hmm.. there’s not much I would be completely against shipping. That being said, I would never push a ship that my writing partner wasn’t comfortable with. I do ship some unconventional (problematic?) pairings, so I’m careful to have a frank talk with potential writing partners before delving in.

What do you like about roleplaying angst?all the FEELS

What do you dislike about roleplaying angst?sometimes if it stays dark for too long, you almost get immune to the pain. i like a nice mix of angst and fluff.

What type of thread does it usually have to be to interest you?I love good writing, so I’ll read anything - angst, smut, fluff, etc - if it’s well-written. I recently read some awesome Star Wars threads which made me get into the movie franchise again when it was something i hadn’t been interested in for quite some time. Right now I’m creeping on the HP fandom – some cool stuff going on there too.

If you do read threads you aren’t in, do you usually let the other authors know, or keep it under your hat?I’ll usually let them know that I’m enjoying their thread through a like, reply, dash commentary or IM.

What’s your least favorite thing about rping a chat/short style thread?I quite appreciate one-liner threads and they definitely have their place on my dash, but it can be frustrating when one is really awesome and you want to turn it into a novella-like thread and aren’t sure if the other person will appreciate it.

Do you prefer gifs or icons when roleplaying? Or no FC at all?I prefer icons, but gifs can be useful too, especially for humour. I don’t mind if writers don’t use FC’s though. sometimes there just isn’t a FC available to do the character justice.

Do you roleplay with people whose characters aren’t from the same dimentional universe as yours? (For example, if your character is drawn or anime, will you RP with people who use actor face claims/play-bys?) Hmmm. Probably not. I think it would be harder for me to visualize interactions in this situation.

What’s something you like about FCs/Play-Bys?It’s nice to be able to put a face on a character, and also fun to do image hunting to make the perfect icons.

What’s something you dislike about FCs/Play-Bys?There’s always those situations where you associate a certain face with something and then that carries over into your perspective of the character using that FC

How did you learn about roleplaying? How did you get started roleplaying yourself? I had seen RP on message boards in the past but it never interested me. I joined tumblr when i got into fanfiction and was super intrigued by the RP threads.

How do you run your blog?

Speed: It really depends. Usually I’ll get to a thread within a week or two at the longest. Given that have several partners that I talk to and plot with daily/weekly, we generate a lot of new ideas frequently and when something takes awhile, it usually got buried by under a crust of new threads and occasional meme prompt ask. My drafts box is like an archeological site, I swear. Sometimes I do have trouble with inspiration for a reply, but usually it’s just a matter of getting wrapped up with my little circle of friends and co-writers.

A side note, during my working week, my productivity slows to a crawl. I’m usually better off in Skype or tumblr IM and may get to a thread or two either before or after work if I’m just not in lurk/shit post mode until I pass out.

Replies: Aesthetically I use extremely light formatting. The first word always bolded and italicized and default size with all other text smaller. I also bold the quotation marks in dialogue because it looks hella cool on my blog proper given that I have bolded/italicized text is a different colour than the rest of the text. It also looks classy af on the dash. Icons for either FC depending on verse or comic caps are used until it gets to nsfw stuff or with some drabble prompts. As for preferences, I’m really quite flexible. Honestly, tho, I’m a multi-para whore and with most threads, eventually they start to get longer and longer. However, unless I can’t parse my muse’s thoughts on a matter or situation, I won’t go in hard and fast on a one-liner or small single para. Unless you’re one of my people, but then again, you prolly already have experience being slapped with my throbbing multi-para hard-on.

I don’t expect people to match me, and sometimes I may struggle to match length, as well, but I do like to see an attempt. Like if I give you a four para starter, I would prefer not to get a two sentence reply back (some of you are shaking your head, but this actually happened to me in my halcyon days in the community).

Starters: I don’t do greeters, because idk, for me it feels like when a teacher called on you because you weren’t paying attention. Nearly every time I’ve gotten a greeter, I’m unprepared and feel quite suddenly pressed. The RPC is already a ball of anxiety 85% of the time and I don’t want to add to anyone’s discomfort, providing I’m not the only crazy person who reacts to getting a greeter like a distant gunshot. Depending on how clogged my drafts box is and how busy I am, I probably post a starter call every couple weeks and open starters very rarely because like, idk, no one ever hops on them, so I don’t really feel like they’re welcome. In the case of the latter, I only ask that people read the tags. Some open starters are meant for mutuals, particularly ones with some established interaction.

Unless they’re plotted starters (or replies to longer ask box meme responses that I wanted to turn into a thread), they usually start short and often vague. Please don’t keep it vague. It drives me nuts. I want you to present an idea, go out on a limb, whatever (I mean within reason of course, use your common sense, too).

Inbox: It’s a mess, tbqh. A lot of times I mindlessly reblog or queue memes, especially at work or when I’m out and about on mobile, and then don’t feel like doing them or get excited over certain prompts over others. I will say that I keep things in my inbox for a very long time and might get to replying to prompt weeks to months later. Frequently I will draft ones that I know will be long.

Selectivity: Hoooo boy. I’m pretty fucking selective tbh. I like my partners to be literate and of course be able to enjoy their portrayal/character. That’s not to say I’m not open to meeting new people and interacting with new muses. I don’t need to know your muse extensively to RP with you, but I’m also perfectly willing to educate myself (I’m not going to front, I was compelled to watch both Daredevil and Preacher for the sake of character/canon research, as well as starting to read Lucifer). Also, I mostly RP with mutuals, but again, that doesn’t mean I’m not willing to discover new mutuals, you feel me?

Sometimes when my stress levels are high or I’m drowning in drafts, I tend to be a bit more standoffish and stick to “my people”, however this doesn’t last for long and may be broken by a compelling enough new interaction.

Wishlist item: *pounds table aggressively* CONSTANTINE FAM! AND I SUPPOSE THIS IS REALLY SELFISH BUT I WANT A CHERYL OR GEMMA RP BLOG IN MY LIFE. AND IDEK MAYBE HAVING A CHERYL BLOG WOULD BE BORING AS SHIT, BUT A GEMMA??? SURELY TO FUCK SOMETHING FASCINATING COULD BE DONE WITH HER. Also: CHAS! ELLIE! HELL BLAZER CANON CHARACTERS PLS.

ahem.

Anyway, idk, I really don’t have a wishlist? I mean, there are certain themes I’m keen to explore. Like my mythological bent to John, and developing certain verses, but like...all things considered I’m just more interested in world and relationship building than ticking off a wishlist of AUs or situations I want to see played out.

Honest note: I’m fiercely independent, and I don’t put up with bullshit. Honestly, I don’t have much tolerance for drama and the easiest way to push me away is pull me into a vortex of social or interpersonal drama. Been there, done that, and honestly I can be a bit skittish if I start getting a weird vibe. I’m coming up on five years RPing on tumblr and there’s not a lot that shocks me anymore.

A few more admissions:

-- I love writing ships. When I wrote fanfic, it was 95% shippy stuff. That doesn’t mean it’s all about romance, fluff, and sex, sometimes it’s just how two muses relate to each other or a glimpse into their lives together, but I know my strengths and tend to default to them. This doesn’t mean I’m out to collect lovers for John or am not willing to step out my comfort zone, just that there’s going to be a lot of that stuff here.

-- If we talk ooc, there’s a 100% more possibility that you’re going to get more attention from me both ic and ooc. It’s just a matter of comfort level. Though I might seem together and confident, it’s only really in regard to my writing. I’m intimidated by people who are so much better at being witty and fun and silly on tumblr and chatty about their characters and fandom outside of the constraint of meme prompts or whatever. I guess I’m just afraid of boring people or having followers roll their eyes like “omg Iggy stfu. Don’t you have twenty-odd replies? Chop, chop you anal retentive bitch.” Mind, no one’s actually said this to me, I just have dodgy self-esteem, honestly, and some days are worse than others.

-- If I tell you I think you’re a good writer, I mean it. This is important.

-- If I tell you I’m worried about the quality of a reply I gave you, I’m not fishing for compliments, I’m legitimately uncertain that you’ll like it. Just fyi.

-- I’m bad at writing m/f ships in any expedient manner. I have no good excuse for this other than being queer trash that would rather write about men being in love and lust. And uh, that’s not a good excuse at all. I’m just the literal worst and I’m sorry I come off as not inclusive enough. Honestly, I’m trying to be better about this deep failing of mine.

-- I apologize a lot for things I shouldn’t. Sorry lol
