21st century contemporary folk music is such a mystery. i could list like 50 different 21st century folk artists who ive listened to or heard of and the only ones with any real like mission are the folk punk people. the 20th century revival was extremely heavy on ideology (contemporary bits) or actual traditional folk stuff. what even is folk music these days. pop music but with added mysticism? where are we & what is going on. and along that train of thought why isnt there a uniform. if a majority of contemporary folk could become political we would totally get a uniform

#folk punk is cool but not really my style #a lot of 20th century revival stuff was punk in spirit but came before punk had its own sound #idk what im saying here. ive been learning little tidbits about 20th & 21st century folk recently and its all so interesting to me #like how did 1800s work songs turn into vietnam protest songs turn into THE OH HELLOS #i wish there was a better distinction between traditional folk and contemporary folk #and then between folk sounding songs versus Folk Ideology. which is really just all the sentiments from the anti vietnam movement #its not that i dont want non political modern folk music to exist #but i feel like the 20th century revival really built up the characteristics contemporary folk is supposed 2 have. & we barely have it now #text #i am posting #if someone wants to send me like. academic papers on this stuff i will read them #basically what im saying is i want modern day phil ochs & bob dylan & joan baez and i want it to be more of a culture #all my love and respect to folk punk again. its just that i like folk rock more
