wyll isnt naturally positive/optimistic, it’s something he works at all the time and, given the shit he’s been through, its a mindset he needs to have in order to make it through the day. his positive/optimistic attitude is more a part of his blade of frontiers persona than it is a natural part of who wyll ravengard is. like the rest of the companions, he hides behind the mask of the blade of frontiers to hide the fact that he doesnt believe himself to be the hero everyone needs, but constantly tries to be that person anyway.

for everyone else, you can hype them up about choosing their ‘ascension’ path and then have your tav change their mind about supporting the decision up until the last moment. it makes perfect sense for gale’s character that you cant do the same for him, that giving him the annals of karsus sets his decision in stone. if tav tries to dissuade him afterwards, he just gets defensive and distant about it, and if you continue to push him on it, he starts to make snarky and rude comments about tav not understanding him and the power of the crown. he refuses to see that following this path will lead him to a similar level of self-destruction as detonating the orb. he sees it as the only way to separate himself from mystra and then spends his godhood obsessing over attempts to usurp her.

i can't stop thinking about revan/durge parallels

you were a powerful, objectively evil, person who lost their memories in an attempt to gain even more power. while flashes of that old life return to you sporadically, you have a new identity/purpose which you believe is your true self. when you discover the truth, that you were this terrible person, you have the choice to embrace who you really are, or to abandon your past life for the new, better, one you've started to build for yourself. either way, you must kill the person you trained, and who looked up to you, as your final act of acceptance or defiance.

the emperor really messed up his tactics to get my criminal background tav merit to trust him by telling her he only ever eats the brains of criminals. i really wish there was a special dialogue option there cause my tav had to listen to him go on and on about how he only killed criminals, the worst of society, meanwhile merit was such a criminal; a villain and a menace for the purpose of survival and she can’t even tell him off about it. it would be so funny if the scene played out like:

the emperor: don’t worry, i only eat the brains of criminal scum

merit: im criminal scum

merit convinced astarion not to ascend and refused the power of the absolute with relative ease, but her oft bragged about charisma wasn’t enough to persuade gale to see reason when faced with a similar choice. she’d given him the forbidden tome, matched and challenged his ambitions with her own, and still managed to be surprised when gale announced his plans for godhood and found that he couldn’t be dissuaded by her comparatively humble request of “don’t do it gale. stay here, with me.”
