I've been thinking about how the bg3 wiki lists this as Gortash's singular spell as a boss.

Dazzling Ray, y'all. A bright beam of radiant light. Supremely sun-coded.

And I'm thinking about how even though I've seen that mid-transformation, Gortash's new Avatar of Bane has green eyes with black sclera (very Bane-coded!), his full transformation has these, sourced from this Twitter post.

Not to mention how there is LESS Bane iconography on his Avatar Of Bane form than his jacket, previously. That it is more gold than black, and that its curves (while reminiscent of Steel Watchers) are all knight- or paladin-coded, not tyrant-coded.

Because is that not the way of him? Always designing things to look heroic. Always playing at being a just ruler, but never able to enact that in truth.

But still shining radiant light at people. Still. Still.

And I am thinking how Raphael, like Viconia - personally motivated against Gortash, like Viconia was to Shadowheart - also has Punish Divinity as a passive ability.

And I am thinking about a boy who was sun-coded from the moment he was named. An artificer, yes - whose magical attacks are coded with the same radiance as his earliest youth. Whose eyes burn gold like the sun, after changing to green with black sclera. The gold overtakes them. But why not a dark glow? Why not something dark and inky like the half-illithid transformation?

And why, pray tell... why is the crest over his heart white, and inscribed not with Bane, but with what looks like radiant lines?

My conclusion: Enver Gortash might be an artificer, but he's living out the arc of an Oathbeaker paladin to an evil god. Where, all along, even his Avatar of Bane suggests that there is something light at his core, contrasting the dark swallowing the rest of him.

I JUST GOT THROUGH THE EPILOGUE ON MY WYLL ORIGIN RUN !!!! (epilogue spoilers for astarion romance)

ahhh im so happy,, this was my first time seeing the epilogue bc i deleted my first save after beating it since i didn't know they were adding an epilogue lmao. but anyway, it was so nice to see all the companions and to hear about what they've been doing !! i romanced (spawn) astarion and halsin and it was really sweet to see astarion so happy ! (after defeating the brain, i chose the option to help find a way to make him able to be in the sun again. also, i chose the duke ending for wyll !) and this line about astarion killed me 😭

and halsin's dialogue was so sweet !!! i'll post it after this, since i wanted to share astarion's dialogue in this and tumblr only let's you put one video per post lol. so anyway, here's astarion's epilogue dialogue !! i am so so happy for him and to see how far he's come.

just seeing all the characters and how they change and grow throughout the game is really wonderful !! now i need to finish all the playthroughs i have planned lol, which i have explained what im doing in this post:

I played the patch 5 epilogue and I was expecting Lae’zel to say something about my githyanki egg I had but she NEVER DID.

But then people told me she has for other people??? My durge is just fated to be a single mother I guess??? Lae’zel I’m feeling so betrayed rn lol.

(I kept it in my own inventory the whole game, I never moved it to hers. And I didn’t romance anyone. Idk if she only mentions it in one of those cases or if I just followed the wrong dialogue route???)

Interacting with romanced Gale’s projection in the epilogue is one of the most saddest moments regarding character’s death I have ever seen in rpg video games.

It’s not we just get sad goodbyes before death, sad death moments, or the main character imaging their deceased loved one is with them (hello, Thane Krios in Citadel dlc).

But in this case we physically have “Gale” here, right in front of us, standing, talking in almost his manner of speech. And more importantly, it's his magic, so close to you, again, it's him, because you remember every time the projection appeared during your journey. And then Tav tries to kiss what remains of Gale in this plane, pulls their hands to him, in the last moment of “it’s” existence, just to finally realise it’s not him, Gale has gone for long time, he’s is not here anymore, to lose that last hope on the possibility of his returning (because this time even Jergal himself Withers couldn’t help us). And then before turning to nothing but the flickers of his last magic spell, he tells us “I can see why I loved you” in a more human voice than he was talking before, his actual last words for you, this time for… ever.

They gave us hope just to take it away within a few brief moments.

And you can perfectly see it in Tav’s devastated face, in the way they fall on their knees and sit in silence.

“Perhaps fate brings us back together before the universe dims.”

Perhaps fate brings us back together just to take you away from me one more time.
