never in my 10 years of roleplaying would i ever thought there would be discourse on roleplaying as a CHILD. like i'm literally speechless.

omg ok see i remember this subject kind of coming up in the past, but it was people wanting to use minor fcs (this was peak stranger things) and it was like... that’s simply not allowed lads, cause they gotta get parental consent for the tv show, and i guarantee finn wolfhard’s mom ain’t gonna say “yeah you can use him in your rp babe!!” but anyway this is somehow fucking weirder. like, bro, nobody wants to interact with a child!!! and if they do then they’re a freak too. someone in the server just made the valid point that minors can’t even do anything and that’s so true like... what do you want a fourteen year old to do other than go to school?? cause i promise you that fourteen year olds nowadays only commit crime when they go outside. they’re all playing minecraft bro. what’s your starter for a six year old going to be? them getting lost in a target? give me a break!!!!! 

i’ve been in the rpc for gradient themes, theme garden, the sub small text, 500px gifs, first person writing. and i ain’t never seen anything as fuckin deluded as this bro

no but if you so desperately want to play a parent with a minor child make that thing npc and only have your muse interact with it. i saw someone have a muse with a child and describe scenes where the parent was playing peekaboo with their child while still having a conversation with another muse, use the child as a prop, don't roleplay as the child.

exactly!!! there is nothing wrong with having a child as an npc at all. but according to our lord and saviour bobbirpt, that makes you a bad parent character. like you can have a parent character and literally just mention their kid as necessary? you just don’t have to roleplay the child as they interact with others??? “neil the baby spat up on cheryl.” that’s the most you need. and even that is just kinda meh? honestly at this point i doubt they’ve ever interacted with either a parent or a child before in their life cause there’s fully no need

idk what part of don't write actual children as an adult are these people not getting??? its entirely possible to write family dynamics where the kid is 21 or older (i'm doing that rn! its not weird! its entirely possible!) or just make the baby an npc? fucking weirdos 😭

I legit had a friend almost go to jail because they unknowingly were writing with a minor. What is going on with people? I don't understand y'all.

oh my goddd i remember that!! it might not have been your friend but there was a thing where someone’s mom found out they were writing (tbf i think it was smut) with some adult, and the adult like didn’t know or something, and that’s when the rp community really kicked into high gear with the no minors thing. (which is obviously a good thing!) i think their mom got a lawyer and either did sue or almost sued the adult writer. like... it’s just not acceptable. don’t write children.... cause they’re literally children.... there’s a reason so many of us refuse to help with underage faceclaims or underage characters, or even underage characters who have been aged up. give me a mcfreakin break from this bollocks

writing a book with children in it or has a child's perspective =/= pretending to be a child? i don't think that's a very hard concept to understand. also, i can choose what books i read based on my comfort level, i cannot stop you from making your child muse interact with my adult muse.

precisely! when you roleplay as a child, you’re more or less forcing other muns to interact with that character. even when they’re unlikely to be comfortable with it. if i read the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime or the good girl’s guide to murder that is literally my choice? also the interactions with adults in those novels are within reason and are rational for the characters. 

what can kids even do in a roleplay that is so important anyway? if they go to the store, they’re going to be getting ridiculous snacks. they’re not allowed in bars. if you saw them on the street, lets be real, you’re probably going to cross the street cause a group of teenagers is scary... oh you’re a mechanic? they can’t drive, they don’t have a car. oh your character is a teacher? yeah, y’all can’t really interact outside of class cause it’s weird and there will likely be a fucking investigation.

to me the argument of "I need a minor to play a parent" is so weird? the refusal to play older characters with older children is real. you can have a parent/child dynamic without involving a minor, stop making dumb excuses to play children.

no you’re completely right. it’s giving “i’m too shitty of a writer to write things i haven’t personally experienced” to me. plus what kind of fuckin dynamic does a teenager have with their parent please?? like... when you’re a teenager, your parents are the “enemy” cause they’re the mfers telling you to go to school and clean your room and do the dishes. when you’re an adult?? you can actually have a relationship with your parents as people (because parents are in fact people too. shock, horror, i know) because that power dynamic has shifted, especially if you don’t live with them anymore. and even outside of the parents, what the fuck do you want the other adults in the rp to do with them??? like it’s not like they’re going to hang out. especially if they don’t know the parent??? what adult hangs out with a random fourteen year old???

they use the excuse constantly of "how else are u supposed to play a parent, just making an npc child is an excuse to write a lazy parent" like dude i write 40+ year olds all the time with playable kids ages 18+ and let me tell you it's sm more fulfilling and interesting? like not only do they have a ton to talk about and have more interesting and dynamic conversations you also aren't writing with a 30 yo that thinks writing as a literal 3 yo is cool and interesting like ??? also ur putting a 40+ yo muse into the world when they're typically overlooked so

trust me!!!! like..  ok lets give them the benefit of the doubt and say they want their adult character to have a child that’s like fourteen-sixteen. bro what the fuck does a fourteen to sixteen year old talk about with their parents? or their parents friends? cause i promise you it ain’t much. and it certainly ain’t interesting. and like... the only "friends” that were 18+ i had at that time were my friends’ siblings. and they weren’t even my friends, it was my friend’s sibling like??? their idea of the lazy parent is actually so fuckin shameful as well. my mom was a single parent who worked two jobs, so no i wasn’t with her all the time. and you know what happened when i stayed at my dad’s for the weekend? she went out and had a fucking life. and you know what happened if it was a saturday night and she wanted to see her friends? either i would be in bed + they’d come over, or i’d go over and hang out with their kids, or i’d stay at my nan’s house and my mom would have a life. by the time i was thirteen she was leaving me alone in the house overnight if she had to work. by fifteen she was going on holiday with her pals and i was vibing on my own. like... that doesn’t make my mom a bad or lazy parent, it makes her a woman who was a mom but also a fucking person with a life that didn’t revolve around her kids??? cause she had a personality outside of me???  plus their remark of “oh they have to have kids young or be in their 50s!” so? you wanna play a thirteen year old so bad, you can learn to play a fifty year old too. if i can do it at the big old age of twenty-two, you sure as fuck can do it too bro.

i am truly embarrassed for bobbi cause i dont know what point they thought they were making, or what hot take they thought they were creating, or if they really thought they did something with this, but they didn’t. all they did was expose themselves for being a piece of shit. hold that L babe
